Pierre Houde is the best, I feel bad for people who don't understand French because he is an amazing broadcaster. Going from listening to him on RDS to the goobers on TVA is painful.

AmosBurton_ThatGuy

I don't understand French and I still love Pierre Houde! My dad is a huge Habs fan and even though he doesn't speak French, he still preferred watching the RDS broadcast over anything else simply because Houde has so much energy and has a fun voice to listen to. Le tir.... ET LE BUT!!!!!!!!! Heard that so often growing up that I also prefer the RDS broadcasts despite only speaking English.

Charble1

They need to bring back playoff games on RDS. I miss playoff Pierre so much

timhortons67

I think next year is the last year that TVA has the rights? And with their current financial situation, I really doubt they’ll get them again

[deleted]

Every season I think about watching a Habs broadcast once a week just to hang on to what little French I remember from school, might need to commit to that next year...

FesteringLion

I hear this sentiment all the time. I feel bad for me too. By all accounts this is very well deserved.

ApokatastasisPanton

Pierre is an unknown gem in the league. Wish all hockey fans could understand French and tune in to Pierre and Marc. The best duo in the league in my opinion. They cast with class, respect and fairness for the opponents, they make an effort to pronounce all player names correctly, and Marc's analysis (especially when it comes to goalie stuff) is always super interesting.

unlicouvert

The only commentator I've ever heard pronounce the ü in Stützle

ApokatastasisPanton

He will differentiate between Andersson and Anderson. Or pronounce Pastrňák correctly (Pastrnyak). Meanwhile anglo commentators can't even pronounce French names without distorting them to hell...

Mean_Mister_Mustard

That could be part of the reason why Houde takes special care to figure out the correct way to pronounce player's names. It'd be hypocritical for a francophone to scoff at anglophone commentators struggling with the pronunciation of Mario Lemioo or David Purronne and then proceed to utterly butcher European names…

ApokatastasisPanton

Honestly I think he does it just because he cares about doing his job to the best of his ability, and that it is just a respectful thing to do to pronounce people's names correctly.

habseightynine

My European friends are always impressed at my pronunciation of Eastern European and Scandinavian names. Pierre is an amazing teacher 🐐

Codc

He actually reaches out to players ahead of games to learn their preferred/correct pronunciations

rawboudin

That's why I'm always amazed at how many people haven't been able to pronounce the name of that scrub Lemieux.

habseightynine

Leh'meooo. To be fair the "eu" sound exists in very few languages.

usernameshortage

I also distinctly remember him properly pronouncing Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Jurco's last names. He clearly does his homework, and respects the players tremendously.

4BobbyOrr

Well deserved! The best play by play announcer in the league by far

ratedPG44

Not true at all but he is HOF-worthy. Houde's extremely exciting but he doesn't have the strategic understanding of the game that John Forslund, Brendan Burke, and John Shorthouse do: he doesn't see the play develop two and three steps ahead like those three. Although he's a treat to listen to. I never understood Habs' fans hate boner for Félix Séguin; Houde is a bona fide legend in Montreal and one of the best in his line of work, but that shouldn't make Séguin worse by proxy.

Lorguignole

Séguin shrieks.

ratedPG44

Codc

Ma parole!

Awesome stuff, well deserved. Who are some other announcers waiting in the wings? I feel like Cuthbert should be in there soon

dadoudelidou

I gotta ask, i see your PIT flair and it brought the question. Pierre Houde is a french commentator, how do you know about him? Is he known around the league outside MTL' french bubble ? I know on r/hockey often when we post goals highlights we often see comments from other fandoms how they don't understand french but they love Pierre Houde's energy when he shouts " ET LE BUUUUUUT!"

PasswordMustContain

i just love listening to the french audio on streams when possible

Jimbo_Imperador

AS HE SHOULD ALL MY HOMIES **LOVE** PIERRE HOUDE TVA Sports is the single reason habs tv ratings have dropped in the past years, the switch of Houde to Séguin is like going from Mcdavid to Jordan Weal as 1C

Mean_Mister_Mustard

> TVA Sports is the single reason habs tv ratings have dropped in the past years Well, I mean, the Habs missed the playoffs in 5 of the last 7 seasons, that probably didn't help the ratings either…

Jimbo_Imperador

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

huhgo

Sometimes I wish more people spoke French just so they can have the honour of understanding how great Pierre is when he does a game.

AmethystItalian

The best in the business right now without a doubt.

carlmageddon

He's excellent for sure, but Martin McGuire is #1 for me as the best french hockey caster.

JUNGLE_HABITAT

Félicitations to the best in the business! Well deserved! My friends and I watch almost all of our sports in English except when Houde is announcing a Habs game. He's a Québécois hero.

unlicouvert

I listen to the Habs broadcast when they play the Sens just for this man. Couldn't even tell if he has bias.

Charble1

He has a bias for FUN and MIRTH

not_a_toaster

He definitely gets more hyped for Habs goals but he's fair in his assessment of the game. For example, if the Habs take a bad penalty or their opponent gets an unlucky no call, he's not afraid to say that.

endhits

Legend

usernameshortage

Honestly surprised he hadn't received it already. Absolutely deserves this honor, fantastic announcer.

WeathervaneJesus1

Disagree. I can't understand anything he says. lol, the rage at this absurd comment is delightful.
