That's not cap circumvention. It is an advantage, but it's not circumvention.  And many states have carve outs from their no-income taxes just for sports athletes. Plus, they pay taxes to the states they travel to. So it's not like they're instantly saving ~25% on their salary.

Plus it’s not like the FL teams, Dallas, or Nashville can afford to pay an army of staffers like Toronto. Players also have more access to endorsement deals in Canada

Yeah I guess, but Tampa is a 4+ hour drive away from Miami (Heat: 2 Finals, 2 losses), and Sunrise/Fort Lauderdale (2 Finals, 1 loss, 1 TBD). Tampa has all the wins, down here in South FL it’s been a great time having all these Finals appearances, but it’s all been losses. This team really feels like our best shot to get a Championship and it’s going to absolutely suck if it doesn’t happen again.

People also forget that many Hockey player like playing in a "non-hockey" market. You can get paid like a celebrity, but don't have to deal with a lot of the worst parts of sports superstardom. No one at the Grocery store is going to yell at you for screwing up the game last night. The waitress might recognize you at dinner and be aware you're some sports big shot, but she isn't going to try to talk shop with you when you just want to get a dinner with your family. If you lose, you just lose, instead of being subjected to the 24/7 sports new cycle crucifying you for weeks. The Miami media market goes "Oh well that sucks, now for the weather". You can live and breathe hockey with your team, but not have to engage in the near human sacrifice level that markets like Toronto/New York torment their stars with. Let be honest, some northern/Canadian hockey fans can be fucking obnoxious.

As someone who lives in Jacksonville, i would be happy.

I'm convinced Hockey would do really well Jacksonville. It's grown by like half a million since they got the Jags. It's not a small market anymore, relatively to a lot of place that have hockey teams.

We have an Echl team, the Icemen and we aparently have the largest crowds of any other team in the leauge (I'm a season ticket holder).

The Jumbo shrimp also pull super well. People are hungry for top tier professional sports that isn't the Jags. Next league to put a team in Jax is gonna make bank.

Well, the city just put up 600mil to help build a roof for that shit team, and it's very, very disappointing. The city could do a lot better than pour money into the Jags.

We could have a nice 20k seat arena downtown that gets used more than 8 times a year plus a college bowl for that money. Frustrating.

Same problem baseball is having :) Every year since 2019 the World Series has had games played in Texas (yes, even the 2020 one, it was played in Texas on a neutral field).

No state income tax really makes a difference. Realistically gets you an extra 4-6 mil in cap space to work with. Which makes a difference.
