Yup. It's an unfortunate fact that the majority of teams will have fans born and be, at a minimum, in their mid-30's before they see their team win the Cup. That number will likely be closer to mid-40's on average for most teams even without expansion given that teams who do win generally are good at staying in the hunt and can win again soon after their first with a certain core.
And that's not even taking into account of bad ownership, a bad GM setting your team back, just plain bad luck, etc.
Hey, same with Canucks and Buffalo, and the Blues/Caps basically always said the same thing prior to 2019/2018. It's definitely possible though. I know there were many day 1 fans for the Blues/Caps that died before being able to see the teams win :(
Yeah but as a fan it will make it even less enticing to watch knowing the odds are so much worse. Sure, it'll feel even sweeter to be on top of like 39 other teams...but overall that sounds miserable. People already went lifetimes without seeing a win with less than 30 teams depending on the league. It'd start to get absurd
NFL especially. The NBA is becoming pretty international and most of the biggest stars in the league right now aren’t American. It probably won’t ever catch up to hockey because of Canada but it’s gonna be comfortably second in non American talent for a long while.
It's not even going to be about talent though. It all comes down to how much money they can charge for the national broadcasting rights in the US, and the more US markets you cover, the more people those games can be marketed to, the more they can charge. There are 29 MLB teams, 29 NBA teams, and 32 NFL teams in the US. There are only 25 NHL teams in the US. They're going to want 4 more teams in the US so they can catch the other pro sports, and they want to keep the Canadian markets because they also get a tonne of money from Canadian broadcasting rights. The natural end result of that is going to be a 36 team league.
I legitimately feel like we're going to reach a point where the old National/American league split of the MLB, or essentially the split of the CHL but less regionality, just makes more sense than a unified league. There's just no way that many teams can exist in one league, but also we're definitely going to see the population growth to rationalize significantly more teams.
The league won't split, but the scheduling matrix will have to change. Either you end up facing every team twice or there are divisions that you may never see. Personally I'd prefer not seeing some teams vs seeing rivals just twice.
Will also mean winning your division/conference in the regular season will actually start to mean something.
Yea but new owners getting in pay like $500M to the league for the privilege. Given how much they’ve sold out to sketchy gambling companies, there’s no way they’re turning down that kind of money.
I was tryna say this years ago when talks of vegas/seattle expansion was just rumors. As a Flyers fan I’ll take every advantage I can get even if that means competing against less teams for the cup.
I've spent 30 years thinking the same thing, yet here I am, watching my team with a shot at winning the Cup 2 years in a row. You never know when that turnaround might happen.
He'll be immortalized with the most Cup Playoff appearances without a Cup win :( Him and the whole 2010s Sharks crew. Pavs, Marleau, Jumbo make up the top 3.
I wanna die
Don't be sad it had to end, be happy we were there for it. Lol It's still peak Sharksdom in my lieftime until Celebrini hopefully drives us to the promised land in 2032.
He played on those stacked Sharks teams for years, made it to a finals in Dallas, and (realistically couldve) won one this year too, too bad. Great career though
The Stanley Cup is a team award, not a players award. How many greats have missed out on a cup now? Pavelski, Lundqvist, Price, Dionne, etc?
Does this mean they didn’t try hard enough? No, and in most cases, they were the ones trying the hardest. You can’t have one person carry you to a cup.
There is some truth to this. Pat Maroon has signed in several different places. The blues were his hometown and they just happened to win which was lucky, but signing with Tampa who was a favoured team increased his chances. Most players want stability and stay put with a couple teams. If great players chased in the last five years of their career, they could probably win at least one. Also look at Perry as a case in point, even though he already has his.
[Joe said he will not continue to house Wyatt Johnston and Logan Stankoven, as his family plans to move back to Wisconsin. However, he laughed and said he’d definitely be staying in touch with them.](https://twitter.com/owennewkirk/status/1798029667578036463)
Takes them to the rink and throws a puck after they all get out of the car "Go on go get it boys! Battle on the boards for it!" and then he gets in the car and drives away while they run to get it
I would have really liked to see him get a coaching job with us, though that still isn't out of the realm of possibility if they plan to move fully to Wisconsin that isn't looking likely.
From everything I've heard of him, he's an absolute gluten for competition. He excels at just about everything he tries. There was stories about him dominating ping pong in the Sharks locker room. I wouldn't be surprise if he finds a job behind a bench, or in the front office. He's got a keen eye for finding gold in places most often over looked. His hockey IQ is off the charts.
also think he could have probably played another season, he had a great season considering his age although he did slow down towards the end. Guess he decided he wanted to end on a high note which i can respect
Yeah he seemed invisible this post season, I was surprised. He got tons of ice time, but he never seemed like a real threat. He's always been just an absolute pain in the ass to play against, but just couldn't seem to get anything going this run.
It's rough, right? If you're 28 and you shoot 4% in playoffs but you're usually a good postseason performer, you get the benefit of the doubt. No puck luck or whatever. That might have been the case for Joe this year, but when you're pushing 40 it might be that you're just cooked. I'd hoped he would play one more season and see if he could hit 500 goals, but I guess it's the end of the road.
I am a ducks and redwings fan, and Pavelski has been an absolute murderer of both of my teams, year in and year out. It was surreal to see him out there shift after shift and just not being a threat. Seemed like all the little things were just harder for him this year.
When you watched him, you realized that he was struggling with a lot of things. Speed, standing ground, passing. But honestly, he would've been fine with all of that if he was able to just keep up his bread and butter deflections. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how many times this year (especially the post season) I saw him whiff on a tip try and shake his head making it obvious that he was struggling in that department. It was rough to see the degradation in real time.
If I recall his kid should be getting older so I imagine he wants to spend more time with him and also not get injured. That last one in SJ was a doozy
What’s crazier is that as long as everyone on that list played, Pavelski is the only one who has multiple trips to the Stanley Cup Final.
It’s so hard to win it.
"And after 22 years... RAYMOND BOURQUE!!!" is such an iconic NHL moment. The fact Sakic never even lifted the Cup over his head before passing it to Bourque just drove home what legends they both were.
Almost every year around the playoffs, one commercial or another will have a small clip of Bourque raising the cup, or reacting afterwards.
And every time, it gets me a little misty eyed. He was my absolute hockey hero growing up, poster on the wall, copy of his rookie card on proud display, etc. It gutted me when he left Boston, even if I understood why. But if anyone ever deserved a Cup win, it was him.
This low key wrecked me. Not blaming you guys since we had so many opportunities to get it done for him, but I was really, really hoping he could pull a Peyton Manning and ride off into the sunset with a Cup to his name :(
Peyton won one with the Colts first. For Joe I was hoping for a Ray Bourque situation. Traded and the first year doesn't win it. Comes back for one more and does.
It really would have been a wild time if we saw the Sharks, Predators, Capitals all win their first cups in 3 consecutive years.
So many great players on the sharks and preds would have avoided being on the infamous no cup list. Thornton, Marleau, Pavs, Hertl, Rinne, Josi, Mike “Mr Underwood” Fisher all would have cups :/
I mean, I understand it, but it doesn't really bother me. The dude played some amazing, unforgettable games with us, and I couldn't be a bigger fan. Him moving on to another team is a part of that story, and tbh, I kinda don't like the whole "one-day-contract > retire" stuff. I respect the guy enough to not need it. Dallas was a part of his journey, and I'm happy for him.
I love his time in Dallas because playing with the Sharks the last 3 years would obviously have been painful, he got to click with Robo and Hintz and still play relevant 1st line hockey down the stretch of his career, and seeing the Dallas fan base fall in love with him the same way Sharks fans did was pretty special.
Happy trails Captain America, go win some celebrity golf tournaments now.
Pavelski was in Dallas long enough, that to me, it makes sense. If he stuck with the Sharks his entire career, then joined Dallas this year for one last shot, then the one day contract would be justified.
Damn. I bet he could get another contract somewhere if he wanted, but I also respect retiring at 39 after a 67 point season. Had a hell of a career for a 7th round pick, that's for sure.
He'll go down as one of the most consistently good players of all time. Never really had a sharp decline as a player all the way up to nearly 40 years old and maintained being an excellent skater pretty much his entire career. That in itself is an absolutely amazing athletic achievement. It won't get him into the HoF but he's in a league of his own when it comes to longevity.
Yeah, this playoffs was his sharp decline. He turned it on for Game 6 against Edmonton, but he was an absolute shell and even boat anchor for most of the playoffs this year.
No hate, still crazy sad to see him retiring. He was second on the Stars in scoring this year.
> Never really had a sharp decline as a player
Until this year at crunch time.
That said, we appreciate what he did for us in Dallas over the last 5 years. It feels bad that he picked us over TBL and they won two Cups And we couldn't get him one.
This is really not the thread I wanted to see on my first visit of the day to reddit. Hell of a career. Even at peak Ducks-Sharks loathing, I couldn't hate him. I'm *actually* sad.
> Any chance his jersey gets hung at SAP?
I would say good chance, but not a guarantee? I've seen both opinions from Sharks fans so I'm not sure. 4th in GP, 2nd in goals, and 3rd in points among all Sharks is a pretty good case, but idk how many numbers the team would want to retire from an era without a cup.
As an outsider, Joe and Marleau are locks. If he’d managed to get a Cup then Nabokov would have a case. From there you have Pavelski, Vlasic and Couture from that era: Couture is a lock for me, Pavelski can go either way and Vlasic is a *maybe*.
I had mixed feelings about dallas this year, Ive never wanted to see Benn lift the cup but I could have put up with it if it meant Pavalski got to as well
My heart wants to make a special dispensation for him being such a unique player, drafted so late, playing so well so late in his career
But my brain says HoVG
He's probably not getting in but it's crazy that he has played essentially the same number of games as Perry but has 50 more goals and like 100 more assists than Perry who will almost certainly get in. He was just really good for a long time but never peaked super high. Having your career high at age 36 is crazy
fuckin hell does he ever have the hardware
Stanley Cup, Hart, a 50 goal season, Memorial Cup, World Junior gold, two Olympic goals, world championship gold, World Cup of Hockey win, been to the finals 6 times, two first all-star steam
meanwhile Pavelski.. one silver medal, one second all-star team
Hall of Very Good. You could make a case for him, but really his best chance of him getting in is if everyone else of note has gotten in and there's a year where there are no clear cut guys to be inducted.
Hall of very good. No awards, only broke 80 pts once.
Joe was getting pretty overrated imo. People just went nuts how an old dude was putting up points on the top line. He was still a great player but definitely not a HOFer.
I mean, his career stat line is pretty comparable to the Sedins (Pavelski even had a higher goals/game), along with much better playoff stats. The only difference is the Sedins had higher peaks and lower valleys than Pavelski, who was just consistently very good.
His playoff numbers were incredible during the stellar Sharks years. For long periods of time he was second only to Crosby in playoff points over X amount of seasons. The dude was insanely clutch, and during our cup run he was an easy contender for Conn Smythe, next to Couture and Jones.
Idk if that helps or hurts him in HoF talk, but he was a player that literally any team would want, despite his skills seemingly not translating to the evolving game. Somehow the dude stayed super relevant in a game dominated by speed. He was awesome, and I loved him no matter where he went.
But I doubt he's even considered for HoF.
If the HoF had a special section for being the best a certain aspect, he’d get in for being the best tipper ever.
Sadly, that doesn’t exist and I think Joe is just a hall of famer in our hearts.
HoVG. He needs hardware to overcome his eh PPG and only just barely breaking 1k points.
Like Giroux may not get into Hall and his stats are far better and hes got some years left.
The Sharks were so good for a while and had so many Stars that didn't win and it's a shame. Pavelski, Marleau, Jumbo Joe, Karlsson, Burns. I know not all these guys started with San Jose but still
Sad to see but he's had great career. When's the last time a player retired after putting up a almost 70 point season? He could easily get a 1 year deal somewhere.
Pavs played his heart out in game 6 of the Edmonton series, and seemed like one of the Dallas guys that was determined to leave everything on the ice. Mad respect for him.
I agree with that statement. He has said he doesn't want to move again until his kiddo graduates. Hoping there's a front office or even coaching staff role for him - he's been such a fantastic mentor for the younger guys.
Was a sharks fan before we got a team in Seattle. All my childhood favorites have finally retired. It's a shame Pavs, Jumbo, and Patty never won the cup.
The white stick can’t hurt us anymore.
Great player for many years with a super awesome resurgence late in his career with Dallas, happy for the guy. His work in front of the net deflecting pucks needs to be studied. Cheers, Pavs.
Pour one (or 16) out for Joe.
Then raise a glass to the new Old Man Without a Cup, Kyle Okposo.... at least for the Cup Final
Will be interesting to see if any other OGWaCs retire this off-season: Giordano is 40, Parise and Suter are 39, Brent Burns is 38.
This is actually upsetting, im usually happy for guys but Joe can still be a really good depth player on any cup contender. Welp cheers to a great career you were fucking awesome Joe!
Inevitable. Really bummed that the Stars not Sharks could win a Cup with him. But there’s a lot of greats that never lifted the Cup.
Does not and should not define an outstanding career.
One of my favorite players... it's going to be so strange not seeing him score insane deflections anymore. It's sad he could never win the Cup on such stacked Sharks teams.
One of (if not THE) best 7th round pick of all time. Goodbye and godspeed, Captains America.
We'll miss you, Joe.
Congrats to him on a fantastic career overall. Bummer he couldn't get the Cup but it shouldn't overshadow how well he played for so long.
With 32 teams this sadly will be the case more often than not. Nothing to be ashamed of, I doubt I'll ever see my team win a Cup
If you’re a leafs fan, it may never happen in your lifetime
Hey, same with Canucks and Buffalo, and the Blues/Caps basically always said the same thing prior to 2019/2018. It's definitely possible though. I know there were many day 1 fans for the Blues/Caps that died before being able to see the teams win :(
The Blues winning the cup was a great moment Most Canadian team in the league Defeated the Bruins and made Marchand cry
this man knows how to get upvotes from blues fans
I played Gloria on my way to class the next morning. Plus the raptors winning the championship the next day. What a week
It’s gonna be even more sad when the league grows even more and then the odds become even smaller
Can't wait for Utah to make the playoffs before we do.
Can't wait for the third iteration of the Atlanta Thrashers to make the playoffs before my "this year will be the year" Senators
I wish they wouldn’t. 32 teams is the perfect amount for a pro sports league.
Yea 32 feels already like a lot of teams and if they get to like 40 one day that’s just way to many
NHL is skewed due to 7 Canadian teams. It's actually on low end of possible American teams compared to other sports.

But the other pro leagues still pull Canadian talent. It's not like we're double-dipping on superstars.
Nowhere near as much as the NHL, and NFL and NBA have fewer players from outside of N.A.
NFL especially. The NBA is becoming pretty international and most of the biggest stars in the league right now aren’t American. It probably won’t ever catch up to hockey because of Canada but it’s gonna be comfortably second in non American talent for a long while.

Roenick's final cup chase somehow cursed that whole group. The Sharks were absolutely dominant in so many of those seasons.
He played on those stacked Sharks teams for years, made it to a finals in Dallas, and (realistically couldve) won one this year too, too bad. Great career though
It’s so god damn hard to win the Stanley Cup. Congrats on a hell of a career to one of the best American players ever.

You're right its not hard to win a cup at all ...
Even I came close to winning a cup. I was only 20 years of hard work and dedication away, I could practically taste it.

Thankfully we were able to get Cog's name on the cup, as well as both the johnson's
[Joe said he will not continue to house Wyatt Johnston and Logan Stankoven, as his family plans to move back to Wisconsin. However, he laughed and said he’d definitely be staying in touch with them.](https://twitter.com/owennewkirk/status/1798029667578036463)
(*Pavs with a stern face*) Get on up outta here. Go on, git! (*Turns around and walks back inside, a tear drops from his eye*)
Takes them to the rink and throws a puck after they all get out of the car "Go on go get it boys! Battle on the boards for it!" and then he gets in the car and drives away while they run to get it
Uncle Joe, we got it ! We got it! ... ... ... ... Uncle Joe?

Damn bro made two people homeless /s
It takes a cold motherfucker to turn down six figures just so he can make two kids homeless. That's anime villain territory
* 7 figures. No way nobody would pay a million for Pavs
Okay this hurts
I would have really liked to see him get a coaching job with us, though that still isn't out of the realm of possibility if they plan to move fully to Wisconsin that isn't looking likely.

Glutton* fyi, but I like the typo anyhow
Hastings should give him a call to work with the Badgers.
also think he could have probably played another season, he had a great season considering his age although he did slow down towards the end. Guess he decided he wanted to end on a high note which i can respect
The way Parise did it was smart. Sign late, play 35 regular season games so you can enter the post-season less best up than playing a full 82.
There is also the Mark Stone Mid-season “injury” route.
Play half the season with 100% salary. Smartest man in the league.
I said the same thing about Bergeron end of last season. Some guys really do call it quits the first time (cries on the inside).
Yeah he seemed invisible this post season, I was surprised. He got tons of ice time, but he never seemed like a real threat. He's always been just an absolute pain in the ass to play against, but just couldn't seem to get anything going this run.

Everything is garbage and I am sad :(
Me too Sharks bro, me too
Can’t believe it. Still a great contributor.
Sad to see so many greats never win a cup retire recently. Pavs, Luongo, Lundqvist, Jumbo, Marleau, Iginla, Sedins etc.
Canucks and Sharks crying together with 3 players on this list
What’s crazier is that as long as everyone on that list played, Pavelski is the only one who has multiple trips to the Stanley Cup Final. It’s so hard to win it.
Just goes to show how insanely difficult it is to lift the cup. Absolutely insane that no one in that list ever held it, seems so wrong.
For some reason Pavs is the one I was cheering for the hardest. Really wanted him to get his Ray Bourque moment.
"And after 22 years... RAYMOND BOURQUE!!!" is such an iconic NHL moment. The fact Sakic never even lifted the Cup over his head before passing it to Bourque just drove home what legends they both were.

Giroux seems on that path
As does Karlsson.
Rinne :(
Price. :(
It's not the same as winning a Cup as a player, but Lu is the person I want to get a ring over anyone on the team this year.
100%. I’m still salty about how Torts and some fans treated Lou at the end of his time here. He was the best Tendy we ever had
💔 goodbye, Joe. Sorry we couldn't get it done for you.
This low key wrecked me. Not blaming you guys since we had so many opportunities to get it done for him, but I was really, really hoping he could pull a Peyton Manning and ride off into the sunset with a Cup to his name :(
There’s not a lot of players I hate respect more than pavs. That guy has been an avs killer his entire career.
Peyton won one with the Colts first. For Joe I was hoping for a Ray Bourque situation. Traded and the first year doesn't win it. Comes back for one more and does.
This really felt like the year man
The 18 year nightmare of getting scored on by this guy is over. What a player
Dude was an Avs killer. He can't hurt us anymore. But great career overall and good retirement to him.
When he came back for game 7 in 2019... it was all joever
_/ _/ _/
MOTHER FUCK, I’M NOT DOING WELL THIS MORNING
You and me both
seriously I didn't wake up wanting to feel feels, but here we are
This postseason has me devastated, what a shitty way for it to all end
Cruel world we live in where Corey Perry gets to compete in his 5th (6th?) SCF, but Joe retires with zero cups.
Fuck you, fancy birds. Just had to ruin it.
Sorry boss
Could've been four seasons in a row of first-time Cup-winning teams considering St. Louis won the year after Washington.
Actually I would have been okay with the blues group not winning 🙂
My favourite Shark, hope he enjoys retirement
He's my second favorite shark, right behind the Tiger Shark
My Top 3 is 1) Baby shark ^(doodoododoo) 2) The main shark from Finding Nemo 3) Pavelski
What about Left Shark?
Where does Jack Black's character in Shark Tales rank for you? Does he fall lower in the rankings due to masquerading as Sebastian the Dolphin?
absolute legend, NHL will feel kinda incomplete without Joe tbh :(
Thank you for everything, Big Pavelski.
Captain, My Captain.
He was a great shark. Wish he’d retire a shark
He played just shy of 450 games with the Stars. That's longer than most players careers.
Fuck you Steve Spott for ruining the end of his career.
Agreed
We all hate Steve Spott
Just an easy guy to root for, hell of a career
Damn. I bet he could get another contract somewhere if he wanted, but I also respect retiring at 39 after a 67 point season. Had a hell of a career for a 7th round pick, that's for sure.
We love him for raising Wyatt johnston as his own
Fuck that's tragic. _/ _/ _/
This fuckin guy. Feels like he scored 2 goals per game every time he played against the Avs for all 18 years. Hell of a career
I hate it here I want to go home
> Never really had a sharp decline as a player Until this year at crunch time. That said, we appreciate what he did for us in Dallas over the last 5 years. It feels bad that he picked us over TBL and they won two Cups And we couldn't get him one.
Bummer man:/ even as a shark I didn’t hate him. Hell of a career even without a cup
One of those unhate-able guys. Too few of them, and now we're one fewer.
This is really not the thread I wanted to see on my first visit of the day to reddit. Hell of a career. Even at peak Ducks-Sharks loathing, I couldn't hate him. I'm *actually* sad.
It's alright. I'll make a confession to you: I don't hate Corey Perry; I actually *kinda like* him. Keep your mouth shut on that.
my goat
he's on my Mt Rushmore for sure
205th pick. He had a damn good career.
1300+ games played, 1000+ points from a 7th round pick. That’s a hell of a career. Any chance his jersey gets hung at SAP?
I had mixed feelings about dallas this year, Ive never wanted to see Benn lift the cup but I could have put up with it if it meant Pavalski got to as well
HoF or HoVG? To me it's pretty borderline, do the playoff stats put him over the top?
My heart wants to make a special dispensation for him being such a unique player, drafted so late, playing so well so late in his career But my brain says HoVG
He's probably not getting in but it's crazy that he has played essentially the same number of games as Perry but has 50 more goals and like 100 more assists than Perry who will almost certainly get in. He was just really good for a long time but never peaked super high. Having your career high at age 36 is crazy
Perry has the hardware, Joe doesn't. Really all it comes down to.
fuckin hell does he ever have the hardware Stanley Cup, Hart, a 50 goal season, Memorial Cup, World Junior gold, two Olympic goals, world championship gold, World Cup of Hockey win, been to the finals 6 times, two first all-star steam meanwhile Pavelski.. one silver medal, one second all-star team
International victories with Team Canada should really have a bit of an asterisk.
Perry has the hardware though, so the comparison falls apart there.
HoVG, his stats are good but he never won any awards and never had a standout year.
Hall of Very Good. You could make a case for him, but really his best chance of him getting in is if everyone else of note has gotten in and there's a year where there are no clear cut guys to be inducted.
Love Joe, but he’s not really close to being a HOF player.
Hall of very good. No awards, only broke 80 pts once. Joe was getting pretty overrated imo. People just went nuts how an old dude was putting up points on the top line. He was still a great player but definitely not a HOFer.
Plus he’s a seventh rounder. Adds to the feel good story

HoVG, slim chance he could sneak in in a weak year because he seems incredibly well liked and was a very good player for so long.
My fav Wisconsinite. Met him a few times, just an awesome guy.
Damn, sad he never got a cup but hell of a career nonetheless. Always respected him despite multiple playoff run-ins with us.
One day contract in SJ? Come home, Joe.
The Sharks were so good for a while and had so many Stars that didn't win and it's a shame. Pavelski, Marleau, Jumbo Joe, Karlsson, Burns. I know not all these guys started with San Jose but still
I'm not crying, it's just raining on a 90 degree sunny day in June
Sad to see but he's had great career. When's the last time a player retired after putting up a almost 70 point season? He could easily get a 1 year deal somewhere.
One of the best American players of all time, we’ll miss him in Dallas.
o7
What a warrior, wished he’d signed with us when he visited our practice facilities during Covid
That sucks, as an Oilers fan I obviously didn’t want Dallas to win but if they did I was rooting for Joe. Blessed career and great human
:( life is pain
Thank you, Pavs, for being a great San Jose Shark and Dallas Star. Shame neither club could get you a Cup.

Pavs played his heart out in game 6 of the Edmonton series, and seemed like one of the Dallas guys that was determined to leave everything on the ice. Mad respect for him.
Patty, Jumbo, and Pavs. We’ve failed you.
Damn. Just sucks we ran out of gas yet again this year. We’ll miss ya PAVS! CAPTAIN AMERICA!
I'll miss you, Joe. :( (I hope, and would not be surprised if, he takes a job with the team)
I agree with that statement. He has said he doesn't want to move again until his kiddo graduates. Hoping there's a front office or even coaching staff role for him - he's been such a fantastic mentor for the younger guys.
He said he’s moving to Wisconsin 😭
Man it's too early to be this depressed Joe.
Brutal. Loved him and his time in Dallas.
well there's floodin' down in texas (from all of the tears i am crying rn)
We’ve had are quarrels with the sharks and stars, but never against Joe. Sad day, hope his post carrier life goes well
pain
Quite possibly the best puck tipper ever and all around great. Sucks he goes out without a cup, but he joins a short list of hockey greats.
Great mid-to-high tier player. He's got a spot waiting for him in the Hall of Very Good. Hope he enjoys his retirement, he had a wonderful career.
😭
aw man, hopefully he takes a coaching role somewhere, he really seems like the team player type of person
Goodnight, Captain America. 🇺🇸
Pour one (or 16) out for Joe. Then raise a glass to the new Old Man Without a Cup, Kyle Okposo.... at least for the Cup Final Will be interesting to see if any other OGWaCs retire this off-season: Giordano is 40, Parise and Suter are 39, Brent Burns is 38.
Congrats on an awesome career. Time to start taking into account its a 32 team league now with the cup or no cup discussions.
He’ll always be my favorite player. Sad he never won the big one but he still had a hell of a career.
:(
It’s a terrible day for rain
Damn he totally could've kept on playing, but I respect someone going out well there still producing
This is actually upsetting, im usually happy for guys but Joe can still be a really good depth player on any cup contender. Welp cheers to a great career you were fucking awesome Joe!
He'll always be my captain. Thanks for the memories Pavs
Captain America. Wish we coulda got one for you. Enjoy being a scratch golfer 🏌️♂️
You will always be my Captain America. _/_/_/
POUR ONE OUT FOR A REAL ONE
Inevitable. Really bummed that the Stars not Sharks could win a Cup with him. But there’s a lot of greats that never lifted the Cup. Does not and should not define an outstanding career.
Amazing career, really wish he got his cup :(
:(
A lot of us thought this might be the case. Sad to see him go, but he had a remarkable career. How many 7th round picks have fared better than him?
San Jose has to put him in their ring of honor if they have one
Oh Captain my Captain… Sorry we never won for you Joe.
What a player, what a career. Best of luck to him in retirement, hopefully we still see him around!
He’s a lock for getting his SJ jersey retired right?
😢
One of my favorite players... it's going to be so strange not seeing him score insane deflections anymore. It's sad he could never win the Cup on such stacked Sharks teams. One of (if not THE) best 7th round pick of all time. Goodbye and godspeed, Captains America. We'll miss you, Joe.
