Yall handled our PP better than anyone else all season long, I found myself disappointed with the lack of flow they had during many pivotal PPs. Could have very well been the difference maker that allowed FLA to take the cup!
Watching brown at the start of the year I thought " mcdavids buddy is lookin for a check" middle of season I thought " this guy can't score worth shit but gets a million chances" to "he's a huuuge reason why the oilers are there" I honestly think he willed the team to victory atleast in the last 2 rounds as much or more than mcdavid, no slight to mcdavid at all
He's also a good enough skater, with just enough hockey sense that he can play up and down the lineup, in a pinch
like if he's regularly in the top6, you're in trouble
but if you need to tweak a matchup, he absolutely can skate with the big boys, and won't be a liability defensively
Ehh, I get what you are trying to say, but tell me other 4th liners that have the ability to basically play on any of the 4 lines in the event of an injury and not be horribly out of place on any of them.
Hs played top line with McDavid and Hymen in the Vancouver series for a game.
He played on the top line with Drai and Jane when McDavid was injured for a couple games in Oct before he got injured himself.
He played on the 2nd line in late Feb with Nuge and Kane for a couple games as well.
He played top line last season for 3-4 games last season.
When there's multiple examples of it happening just in the last season alone, I would say he doesn't play higher than the 3rd line.
Why do we even need to hire any gm, let alone Bowman, when we have Jackson getting us Arvidsson and Skinner for 7mil combined and retaining Brown and Janmark for less than 3mil?
Last time oilers went deep as in 06? In 06 we had no business being anywhere near the cup finals, it was a true Cinderella run. This time we have a team and some all stars leading the way, it's no surprise people want to be here.
Right now I'm that school bus annihilated by a train meme.
With the bus being "One of the best off seasons the oilers have had in a long time" and the train being "New Oilers GM Stan Bowman"
To be fair I haven’t heard anyone close to the Oilers actually talk about Bowman, it seems to be general league insiders. Most Oilers insiders are talking Mark Hunter, Shawn Horcoff, and Brad Holland
Bakersfield hasn't been great under Gretzky but it hasn't been awful either, just aggressively mediocre. And at least he's not a piece of shit. He's the kind of guy who drives players from Bakersfield to LA so they can get to the game in time.
Unrelated but I'll always be a Keith fan for pulling my son aside after his last on ice-session at the Gretzky Hockey School and giving him a signed stick with a personal message. He was smiling for weeks after that
I understand, I just think their 7th D will be Stetcher not Brown. And I think the money for the RFAs will be from Kane or Ceci. I don’t think we’re disagreeing on anything here.
We’ll just have to see what they do going forward!
3 of the teams in their division play in California, and Vegas is a pop over. Oilers are one of the few teams it might make some sense to have the affiliate so fare away.
Tbf oilers pushed to game 7, all but 1 deal made today was 1-2 years
It's clear the players are signing friendly deals to build the best possible team to get a cup
Like I said in the above, even a 2 year, 2 million a year deal is worth more than this. And I thought some dumb team would ask that to Janmark.
He's only just barely above the mark for getting buried to the minors.
lmfao let the hate flow through you brother. Janmark is not close to being buried in the minors. Hes one of the best 4th liners in the league and one of the best penalty killers lmfao.
Trenin got 3.5X4 and he didn't even score a goal in game 7 of the SCF. Janmark easily could have gotten double for the same term from some idiot GM.
Like I wanted Trenin to be our Joshua replacement and he ended up costing more than him despite having half the results lol.
Janmark and Brown on the penalty kill are insane. I genuinely think when they’re on the ice, power plays are too scared of a shorty to be effective. They just pounce on pucks. So glad to have both back!
with my team being in the slums recently i’ve watched a lot of oilers hockey and henrique and foegele def would sting. i think their new additions make up for that, plus having holloway come into his own.
henrique had a clutch factor at times that will be missed. foegele was a good depth player, but in all fairness he had terrible finish.
Arvy is an upgrade over Foegs imo, gonna miss him though. Henrique will be an interesting one to watch over the next couple of days, really hope we can find a way to keep him around because he was an elite 3C during our run.
Foegele will seem like the best player in the world for 2 games every 3-5 weeks, the rest of the time he's borderline useless. I don't see it as much of a loss. Still won the Foegele/Bear trade though, makes me happy
I guess Desharnais wasn't important but Henrique is a little tough. Getting Arvidsson and Skinner should make up for that very easily and then some though
We still have Henrique? Why was everyone talking like he was going to leave? Literally said in his exit interview that he wasn't really concerned with money at this point and wanted to be on a team with good odds for a cup run.
My memory is murky about this, but I believe he got the Janitor nickname after our low point after ~15 games.
Basically gave a locker room speech indicating we had to score janitor style goals and I'm sure it's one of many things that helped the Oilers rebound to the Cup final.
The janitor nickname came last year - I distinctly remember Drai captioning his re-signing news with “the janitor is back 🧹”. It’s because he always “cleans up their messes” if I remember him saying correctly
Gonna have to pay another team (with picks that Edmonton is very short on) to take him though, and means they would need to add another defenseman. Dumping Ceci without any retention would give the Oilers around $4.6M for Holloway, Broberg, and 2 defensemen.
Apparently they’re working on moving Evander Kane. At least that’s the rumor on Twitter, who knows if it’s accurate or if Kane will actually waive his NMC.
If he does, would love to see us re-sign Henrique too. A forward group of the below would be amazing
Nuge - McDavid - Hyman
Skinner - Drai - Arvidsson
Holloway - Henrique - Brown
Janmark - McLeod - Ryan/Perry
This is inaccurate. It’s been reported he hasn’t been asked to waive his NMC
Send Josh Brown and Derek Ryan down and that’s 1.9 cleared right there. 3.2 for Holloway and Broberg is a million more than enough. A million for a depth Dman
Yep, both Holloway and Broberg will be right around a million each, they both had a decent playoffs but they were both in the AHL for a large part of last year.
Some of that is likely due to Kane being unwilling to waive his NMC up to this point. However, he got pissed last year when put on the third line. Depending on how you see Connor Brown, there might not be a 3rd line spot available for him
Don't really know that player or his career stats/path, but from what I have seen the the Stanley Cup finals, that sounds like a really cheap contract. Grats Oilers!
Surprised he didn't get more $ considering how absurdly good he was in the playoffs. Well, it's still an absurd amount of money. Minimum salary is crazy money but ye, still.
Watching Janmark skate down the ice in Game 7 on the breakaway and roof a goal is peak Stars fan pain.
This guy was notorious for being a breakaway disappointment for us.
Good for him tho.
THE PK DUO OF BROWN AND JANMARK ARE BACK
Brownmark?
Pretty streaky if you ask me
Let's hope they streak In the playoffs again.
Yes!
Made me laugh out loud
What can Brownmark do for you
That joke doesn't resonate as well in Canada but I support it
That's what defensemen playing on the power play get when those guys skate by them with the puck
Holy fuck that’s a steal for the Oilers at that price. Dude was a menace against us in the final
He and Brown were two of the main reasons why that PK was dominant throughout the postseason. Definitely happy to see him stick around.
That PK was insane. Along with the PP. Special teams like that will take any team a long way
They made up for our PP running cold. Made it look like we were still deadly, despite the obvious McDrai injuries
Yall handled our PP better than anyone else all season long, I found myself disappointed with the lack of flow they had during many pivotal PPs. Could have very well been the difference maker that allowed FLA to take the cup!
My friend who doesn’t watch any sports watched the first period of game 7 with me and is now convinced Janmark is the engine that drives the oilers
The oilers are a 2 man team but those 2 men are Janmark and Brown.
Watching brown at the start of the year I thought " mcdavids buddy is lookin for a check" middle of season I thought " this guy can't score worth shit but gets a million chances" to "he's a huuuge reason why the oilers are there" I honestly think he willed the team to victory atleast in the last 2 rounds as much or more than mcdavid, no slight to mcdavid at all
once he trusted his wheels again, he was really pretty effective
Mid season I figured he'd probably end up doin big things in the playoffs wish I woulda put some money on it
You can tell ur friend has a good eye for stick puck, possible coach in the future
I see no lie
Yeah we love him LOL. Congrats on the cup!
Right. Not only was dude like the only one to show up in game 7 but the prowess on the PK was crazy.
Honestly should have just played our 3rd line for 20 minutes game 7.
Yeah, I'm disappointed in Garlic about that Game 7 3rd period.
Good learning experience for him though. He seems to be a coach that learns from his mistakes unlike our older ones.
BrownMarque should've been deployed on the PP that game
He had 12 pts in the regular season lmao Hes a good defensive 4th liner and excellent PKer. Thats about what hes worth
He's also a good enough skater, with just enough hockey sense that he can play up and down the lineup, in a pinch like if he's regularly in the top6, you're in trouble but if you need to tweak a matchup, he absolutely can skate with the big boys, and won't be a liability defensively
Ehh, I get what you are trying to say, but tell me other 4th liners that have the ability to basically play on any of the 4 lines in the event of an injury and not be horribly out of place on any of them.
Janmark doesnt play higher than the 3rd line and thats only when theres a shuffle on the lines.
Agreed he wasn't great against my Canucks but he is everything you want in a PKer and at this price he's a steal.
Hell yeah Janmark
Why do we even need to hire any gm, let alone Bowman, when we have Jackson getting us Arvidsson and Skinner for 7mil combined and retaining Brown and Janmark for less than 3mil?
Those 4 for less than $10M is crazy
A lot of buy in for Edmonton right now. Definitely the team to beat in the west
Last time oilers went deep it was rats from a sinking ship. This is preferable
Last time oilers went deep as in 06? In 06 we had no business being anywhere near the cup finals, it was a true Cinderella run. This time we have a team and some all stars leading the way, it's no surprise people want to be here.
Elite penalty kill coming back. Absolutely love this
Right now I'm that school bus annihilated by a train meme.
Horcoff as GM would be funny, lol. I'd definitely prefer to see him in the role than Bowman.
I’d rather get Rick from Red Deer over Bowman
Hell, Mike from Canmore would be preferable to Bowman
I'd rather Peter fucking Chiarelli or Kevin Fucking Lowe.
Hell let's bring back mctavish as coach too
Hey now slow your roll
Chiarelli actually drafted well too
We need a guy that can bring the mustard.
Maybe that’s why they’re leaking this Bowman stuff. Scare us so much about the thought of Bowman that we’ll be thankful for any other GM out there lol
i would rather get a plate of waffles as gm
I’d rather see the most nepotism gm to ever gm than have Bowman. Bring in Keith Gretzky.
100% Nepotism GM >>>>>>>>>>> Piece of Shit Bowman
Bakersfield hasn't been great under Gretzky but it hasn't been awful either, just aggressively mediocre. And at least he's not a piece of shit. He's the kind of guy who drives players from Bakersfield to LA so they can get to the game in time.
Unrelated but I'll always be a Keith fan for pulling my son aside after his last on ice-session at the Gretzky Hockey School and giving him a signed stick with a personal message. He was smiling for weeks after that
Considering how active Jeff Jackson has been, if we get a middling gm, could see them being sort of a puppet go anyway.
was keith behind some banger trades?
I’d have time for Brad Holland. Apparently he was a big voice in getting Ekholm.
Is holland out?
Ken Holland is out. Brad Holland, his son, is still the AGM
Jeff Jackson said Bowman wasn't even on his radar
Who the fuck needs a new GM? Whomever is doing the work right now can have the title tbh.
Jeff Jackson should make himself GM/PoHo
Yeah this free agency is already better than 75% of Holland's signings lol
Why have a general manager when we can have specific managers?
I can't see mcdavid being cool with it if he knows the backstory of bowman
Super happy with this offseason so far holy shit.
You might be hiring Stan bowman, it will get worse
So happy we’re keeping Janmark
User name doesn’t check out. :)
Fuckin eh
Thank fuck
He’s been phenomenal on the PK with Connor Brown. Glad they’re resigning him.
Good signing but that must mean an incoming trade. They only have 1.3M$ left to sign Broberg and Holloway.
That or Brown (D man signed today) gets sent down to AHL and Oilers have 2.3 M left
Yes, but then they have no 7th D while their AHL affiliate is in the south of California. It work, but it come with some risk.
Stetcher would be their cheap 7th D
Even if Stetcher is league min and Brown play in the AHL, they still only have 1.5M$ to sign Holloway and Broberg.
cecis getting shipped out shortly
Let’s hope
So as he said, incoming trade. Lol
Oh I assume there will still be some moves, I just don’t think our 7th D will be in Bakersfield
Which was my point.
Oh I misunderstood, I thought you were saying their 7th D would be in Bakersfield. Regardless, I think we’ll get cap relief from either Ceci or Kane
My point was that without a trade they wouldn't be able to sign their RFA and keep back up players (13th forward or 7th Dman or both).
I understand, I just think their 7th D will be Stetcher not Brown. And I think the money for the RFAs will be from Kane or Ceci. I don’t think we’re disagreeing on anything here. We’ll just have to see what they do going forward!
we did it the last couple of years, and yeah some nights we had 19 players dressed
3 of the teams in their division play in California, and Vegas is a pop over. Oilers are one of the few teams it might make some sense to have the affiliate so fare away.
Far from home, but close to many of the road games. Depending on timing it could definitely be an asset, good point.
Or Perry, or Ryan. Lots of options
ceci is gone
I'm shocked Janmark came in that low. I thought some dumb team would give him over two million.
Tbf oilers pushed to game 7, all but 1 deal made today was 1-2 years It's clear the players are signing friendly deals to build the best possible team to get a cup
Im guessing less $ because he pushed for more term
Like I said in the above, even a 2 year, 2 million a year deal is worth more than this. And I thought some dumb team would ask that to Janmark. He's only just barely above the mark for getting buried to the minors.
lmfao let the hate flow through you brother. Janmark is not close to being buried in the minors. Hes one of the best 4th liners in the league and one of the best penalty killers lmfao.
Maybe he feels a cup is possible and he wants to run it back?
Trenin got 3.5X4 and he didn't even score a goal in game 7 of the SCF. Janmark easily could have gotten double for the same term from some idiot GM. Like I wanted Trenin to be our Joshua replacement and he ended up costing more than him despite having half the results lol.
god what a fucking free agency for the oil, all my bloodflow is going to my dick i might die
"If it lasts more than four hours, talk to your doctor."
That is a steal. Both brown and Janmark staying holy shittt
Let's goooooo. Why is this my favourite signing? 😂
Because Janmark's the 🐐?
Janmark and Brown on the penalty kill are insane. I genuinely think when they’re on the ice, power plays are too scared of a shorty to be effective. They just pounce on pucks. So glad to have both back!
With how he played in the Finals he deserves every penny
I’m liking this day 1 of free agency, it’s a shame it’s being overshadowed by fucking Bowman GM rumours
Love Janmark. Not sure how Broberg and Holloway fit under the cap, but I guess that’s for another day.
they’ll prolly have kane on LTIR or a trade is incoming. or they move brown down as someone. mentioned, but that leaves them no 7th D
Stecher has re signed apparently. Should be the 7th D.
interesting, i have to imagine they move a defenseman out then considering brown was just signed. might make the ceci trade more likely
Did the Oilers lose anybody decent other than maybe Foegele? Feel like they should be favourites to win the west by like 20 points lol
with my team being in the slums recently i’ve watched a lot of oilers hockey and henrique and foegele def would sting. i think their new additions make up for that, plus having holloway come into his own. henrique had a clutch factor at times that will be missed. foegele was a good depth player, but in all fairness he had terrible finish.
Arvy is an upgrade over Foegs imo, gonna miss him though. Henrique will be an interesting one to watch over the next couple of days, really hope we can find a way to keep him around because he was an elite 3C during our run.
I guess Henrique is staying LFG
Henrique is staying so all we lost was Foegele. I like Foegele but I think what we got more than makes up for losing him.
Foegele will seem like the best player in the world for 2 games every 3-5 weeks, the rest of the time he's borderline useless. I don't see it as much of a loss. Still won the Foegele/Bear trade though, makes me happy
Imagine mcdavid with bricks for hands
They lost Desharnais and might lose Henrique
Deharnais was better than last playoffs but still not great once they passed LA
I guess Desharnais wasn't important but Henrique is a little tough. Getting Arvidsson and Skinner should make up for that very easily and then some though
We still have Henrique? Why was everyone talking like he was going to leave? Literally said in his exit interview that he wasn't really concerned with money at this point and wanted to be on a team with good odds for a cup run.
I don't watch other team's exit interviews lol
This is ginormous. Janny and Brown back for cheap. All the signings thoughout the day I was thinking "okay, now Janmark".
YES. THE JANITOR
Penalty kill merchants!
POWERKILL
This is the first time I’ve heard him referred to as ‘the Janitor’ and frankly it’s astonishing that a professional journalist typed that out
That's his nickname according to Connor Brown
Brown also called him a house after learning how much he weighs lol
Throwing shit burgers at the house for the janitor to clean up.
Oh and Janmark is a beast good signing for the Oilers
Thats what the players call him
i think its a sick nickname haha
"Professional journalist" is a stretch for Frank
INCREDIBLE
LETS FUCKING GOO!!!! BEST SIGNING ALL DAMN DAY!
That’s an excellent deal.
Fuck yes, nothing but good news today 🎊🎊
YAYYYY!!!!!
It's custodian, dick.
You’re cool.
Absolute steal of a signing. A lot less than what I was anticipating.
Oilers now have roughly $1.3M cap space to re-sign RFAs Holloway & Broberg and a 7th defenseman.
It might be Ceciover
I think they've been trying to off-load him these past couple days, but there aren't any takers yet, lol.
Gonna have to pay another team (with picks that Edmonton is very short on) to take him though, and means they would need to add another defenseman. Dumping Ceci without any retention would give the Oilers around $4.6M for Holloway, Broberg, and 2 defensemen.
i’m still thinking it’s kane on LTIR for them or this trade. both might end up working together or they send brown down for extra money
Apparently they’re working on moving Evander Kane. At least that’s the rumor on Twitter, who knows if it’s accurate or if Kane will actually waive his NMC. If he does, would love to see us re-sign Henrique too. A forward group of the below would be amazing Nuge - McDavid - Hyman Skinner - Drai - Arvidsson Holloway - Henrique - Brown Janmark - McLeod - Ryan/Perry

Yep, both Holloway and Broberg will be right around a million each, they both had a decent playoffs but they were both in the AHL for a large part of last year.
From what I've seen online, they've been trying to move Kane and Ceci since just before the draft with no takers.
Some of that is likely due to Kane being unwilling to waive his NMC up to this point. However, he got pissed last year when put on the third line. Depending on how you see Connor Brown, there might not be a 3rd line spot available for him
yeah skinner and arv make Kane odd man out a bit
Josh Brown to the Condors, Kane to LTIR
Me 6 months ago would’ve been upset. Me now is hyped! Our PK duo of Janny and Brown is back!
That's a steal
I miss Ken and Pete.
Yasssssss
Yesssssss
That is a steal of a deal
Don't really know that player or his career stats/path, but from what I have seen the the Stanley Cup finals, that sounds like a really cheap contract. Grats Oilers!
Oh yeah solid effort player very good for us on the PK and has offensive upside can play 3rd 4th line and can play top 6 if need be.
Guys like him are getting minimum 3M this offseason. Looks like when you win, players take discounts. Little to do with the shit weather or taxes.
The cherry pick king baby! Woohoo
