I have his jersey. I managed to pick the one guy that stuck around the longest. I got it the 2014-2015 season and it’s carried me through for a decade. I will miss the Latvian Locomotive
Doubt that's the full story. Adams wasn't exactly warm towards him around season end, so at the very least he probably felt disrespected being an assistant captain and being with the team for a decade and all. Wouldn't surprise me if Adams offered him like $800k x1 and told him he wouldn't have a regular roster spot.
It was high time for him to move on and time for the Sabres to move on. 10 seasons of no playoffs. The most mutual end to a relationship there could be.
We needed a league minimum guy for the bottom 6, that’s fine, we really need one more middle 6 winger but that’s gonna be tough with the Moser contract and the Hedman extension
That doesn’t affect this year. They’re just announcing it a year early. Odds are he’ll go up in price like a few hundred thousand so a complete nothing burger there
Hedman? The rumors were he is definitely getting more than he currently makes, if it’s like only 400K more or something then yeah we are fine especially with the cap increasing but if it’s an extra million or two then we gotta be conscious. But either way we definitely need a middle six winger
They have all of Latvia behind them now. The Latvian Locomotive pulls a country behind him
Edit: he even has a song about him… https://youtu.be/PYSRbeYswGQ?si=ePVz4Oa04dhyD73j
Never expected him to sign there. Doesn't picture me as a jet ski to the rink type of guy. Wish he would've stayed in Buffalo as a 13th forward if nothing else. But good for him and good for Tampa.
He’s fine. He skates hard, plays the right way. I don’t think he’s ever going to win a game for you, but he won’t lose one for you either. He’s just kind of there, but is a little better than you’d think from the eye test
Perfect. Was looking at the lineup today and said I'd like to have one more legit scoring threat for the mid 6 but it is non-negotiable to get one more Guy With Experience.

Low hanging jokes aside that’s a tidy pick up for the bottom 6 which sorely lacked
Not gonna lie…kinda sad Buffalo let him go…he was their Latvian Zemgod for years it seems.. Glad to see he got picked up by a good org though

I picked up a #28 turd burger jersey as a moments to the tank, little did I know that we were only just entering the basement.
We offered him a contract and he said no

You’d think that if anyone would appreciate a bottom-six alternate captain, it’d be Kevyn.

We miss our Latvian king Gudlevskis, have to have one around for the vibes
First ballot Hall of Namer

Even if he gets a 3m raise, it doesn't affect this season at all.
If we sign a long term deal for another winger it would….
Not THIS season. The 2024-2025 season. It has zero bearing at all on this upcoming season.
Yeah I’m aware, but if a winger deal goes into the 2024-26 season we won’t have as much space…
Streets saying it'll be 8M×4
Goodbye, my Latvian Locomotive.
My favorite name in all of hockey
I’ll miss ya, Girgles. Tremendous dude and very solid 4th liner
Dude is going to be good for playoff hockey, I can feel it.
I think this is who okposo was referring to with his dog comment. Him and dahlin
Untapped potential. lol
There it is. The Stamkos replacement. Steven, do me a favor and fuck off. We got the GirgenGOAT

I didn’t realize it until just now but I think that’s exactly what this team was lacking; a Latvian
We had one (Gudlevskis), it didn’t quite work out
Rudolfs Balcers was also Latvian
Balcers was fuckin good when he was healthy im still mad we gave him such a short leash vs Barre Boulet given a million and one chances
He had his own mini cheering section, decked out in his national team jersey with a Latvian flag, at the game here in Seattle last year.

I think i could picture every player born east of Germany enjoying Jetskis to the rink tbh though
He’ll be okay bottom six his advanced stats on Buffalo last year weren’t bad. Can’t speak for watching him but it works for that price.

Works for us with the space we have left

Perfect Motte replacement
All defense, but good at it. No hitting, few goals, very few assists. He will try every single shift, though.

Phew I was worried there a second if he doesn't even hit.
So basically, another Luke Glendening. Sign me up.
Take good care of the All Star [Zemgus Girgensons](https://youtu.be/PYSRbeYswGQ?si=osLoxwFRosOHcGDO)
Wow 3 years at age 30 good for him
Wow I thought he was like 36, I feel like he’s been in the league forever
Anyone who's had anything to do with the Sabres since he was drafted feels like it's been forever. So tired boss. So, so tired.
The 2015 All Star we wanted!! In all seriousness that’s a solid bottom 6 add
That’s mf **ALL STAR** Zemgus Girgensons to you
NHL ALLSTAR
That’s 10.625% of Stammer’s extension
So if he scores 5 goals, it's a bargain!
Silver ~~linings~~ lightnings
First person to ever sign a hockey card of mine. Goodbye old friend.
Something I saw the other day - these types of contracts are the opposite of betting on yourself.
Thank God. No issues with him but we need to rid ourselves of all tank era players
Lol good riddance. Girgensons is the definition of mediocre. These guys wanna build a statue of him outside the arena
