Bungees and no boot straps.

vladtheinhaler0

Recently started using this setup and it's great, no issues.

glasspheasant

Same.

Famous-Ebb5617

No other option really

Purple_Childhood_702

That’s how all the new pads are set up now. Works great for me. But I’ve also played with none during covid when I was only given 15min to dress and had laces. That was fine as well.

pinkymadigan

Warriors, so bungees

batsu

I found bungees are easier on my body, I'm not very flexible. But I prefer the ones that have an inch of slack.

OgnokTheRager

I'll probably try making them longer and see if that helps

Rplix1

Without toe ties, how would you get your pads to rotate properly?

OgnokTheRager

Years ago when I played roller I never had toes ties or anything and it wasn't a problem. Haven't tried it with newer pads but I have had issues with my pads not rotating using the bungees

Goalieguy17

I use Hybrid pro laces, best of both worlds, and no boot straps. Boot straps are worthless

in-jail-out-shortley

Nothing. Grew up not using a toe tie and it has carried over into my adult life. I think its just one of those things that you get better with dealing without overtime.

OgnokTheRager

That's how I grew up playing, but when the bungees came out they seemed to help. Now I'm wondering if they're a problem for me.

Mr_FoxMulder

I'm an old beer league goalie.. and I've been using toe hooks for a few years now and have no complaints. [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L7JV4X0](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L7JV4X0)

WhatsGoingOnUpstairs

Same.

OgnokTheRager

I've heard some people have problems with them breaking. No issues for you?

TZ840

I've had a couple break in the past month or so. The plastic came off the hook part and now they're sharp. Kind of expensive to replace frequently.

OgnokTheRager

Booo

Mr_FoxMulder

no none at all. I tied them to my skate with laces and not the zip tie, then cover that in tape to make sure they are secured, but the actual elastic "tie" part is very durable IMO and it is covered in a heavy plastic layer that also seems durable to me.

OgnokTheRager

Nice. Thanks for the insight

Mr_FoxMulder

this is too funny. I played tonight and the 1st time ever, my toe hook broke. I had no idea it happened until; after the ice time,.. but what a co-incidence.

OgnokTheRager

Damn, I jinxed you!

Net_Nova

me too! makes it very easy to get ready quickly and if they slip off, don't need to take much time to put them back on while on ice

EngelSterben

I started on deck and didn't use any but once I switched I started with bungee. I like them

burnmenowz

I'm using toe ties, but just got some bungees. Excited to try them out but spring playoffs are coming and I don't to make the switch yet

Sizzle31

I went from skate lace toe ties & leather boot straps to Pro Laces & no boot straps. I’m not looking back! It’s a game changer.

FlipperG76

Years ago with my Bauer Vapor pads I found the toe tie hurt my ankles so the last 15 years I’ve gone without. Pads rotate without issue but every once in a while you are going to take a stinger off the top of your foot. Still worth it.

HockeyGoalie770

Still using my Monster Hockey H.A.L. straps from way back. Still getting great rotation/flexibility out of them.

HawkMaleficent8715

Bungee or lace, whatever you prefer. Right now, I got new pads coming in so I have one lace and the other pad bungee lol

OgnokTheRager

Been there when a bungee broke during a game LoL

HawkMaleficent8715

Haha luckily it was during a practice, right at the start too. My goalie partner was getting peppered and couldn’t catch a brake while I put some lace in

Altruistic_Let_6771

For those using no boot strap with either no toe ties or bungies, do you have an issue with your knees missing the knee blocks when you go down? When I tried this the pads would slide up my leg so far that my knees would literally just catch the bottom edge of the knee block or sometimes miss altogether.

OgnokTheRager

The times I've done it I never had a problem because I usually prefer to use the knee elastic right around the back of my knee. Seems like the preferred method these days is down to top of the calf but the pad always feels too loose to me when I've done that

BlindPaintByNumbers

Opposite. If I go no ties my pads actually slide down the boot and I go off the top of the blocks. My leg strapping is pretty loose though.

ChiefSlug30

Leather toe straps, so my pads don't rotate at all. I also have leather straps, so the pads stay snug and don't move around. The knee pad stays on the knee, and I usually have no problem getting the pads down flat on the ice. If a shot sneaks under, then it's because my technique wad a little off on the play.

allblackST

Just started using bungees and I love them lol

HockeyReviews

Put slack on your bungee toe ties and get the best of both worlds: https://youtu.be/5ZEOBvSdC34

bigtheo408

Tow ties on ice, nothing on inline, but id run ties in inline if they didnt shread

Itchy_Marionberry129

Toe ties with like 4 or 5 inches of slack. It helps seal the post in rvh and puts no tension on my hips

Rec0nyz3

Bungees

MeasureTheCrater

Old school. Laces through the cowling and over the boot.

ThunderGoalie35

Bauer bungees

cheesus29

I just switched to bungies and they really made it so much easier getting dressed. It’s also nice not having to tie them off every time. On ice you feel more in control with your kick saves and the pad moves more naturally on your leg.

Braddacus

Nash Sliding toe bridge worked great for me when I was still playing. Let’s you keep the lace shorter while still providing range of motion. I believe I installed mine off-center (inside) for more range. CAD $40 on Amazon.

OgnokTheRager

I'll have to check that out, thanks!

Laces… bungees will fuck up your joints and ankles if they are too tight Toe tie laces with about 1.5-2 inches of slack work perfectly

KeyserSoze1041

I found the opposite. When I switched from toe ties to bungies my joints immediately felt better. I'd wake up the next morning after a game and not have any knee or hip pain. I've experimented with different lengths of bungies, and noticed little to no difference. With longer laces my joints felt okay, but if they were even just a smidge too short I'd know it for sure the next day.

[deleted]

I went from tight toe ties in my old Vaughn V3s to tight bungees in my new Brian’s and I immediately had ankle issues due to tension on pressure points, the second I switched back to wax lace toe ties with slack I noticed I had way more mobility and comfort

ssbbVic

I have found the opposite to be true, and from opinions I've gathered over the years, most say bungee are much easier on the hips and knees. But of it's working for ya keep going with it

OgnokTheRager

Wonder if that's the problem Ive been having

Thepandamancan23

I switched back to regular waxed laces...I'm in a similar boat where now I'm older (37), I don't have the flexibility I did. Laces with about 4-5 inches of space between the toe bridge and my skate also gives me an easier seal with the post.

batsu

4-5 inches? Why bother wearing them at all?

Thepandamancan23

[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1wbdWWZePYA](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1wbdWWZePYA) Way easier to seal the posts. My hips and ankles and overall movements have been better and quicker. Yeah, there's a bit of a lag between my pads rotating but nothing too bad and the benefits outweigh the only con.

OgnokTheRager

Never tried waxed laces, all my toe laces have been just regular

Tasty-Classroom1859

It depends on how you want your pads to sit. I have been using Prolaces the last year, and my hips are thanking me. I still use a heel strap because I want my pads to sit lower. The next level to sit higher is using the Lundy loop, and then no back strap at all. I would recommend if you get rid of the toe tie that you have some back strap. But everything today is a preference.
