If its magnetic then see if a magnet attached to the cupboard will hold it up. Otherwise, a short bungee with a hook stapled to the underside of cabinet, then stretched to hook the lid when open

colourcurious

This is the answer.

Virtual_Common204

Thanks I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for you.

penguingod26

This is the response.

yoshiltz

I'd lift or notch the cabinet so the washer can open all the way...

Personal_Dot_2215

Yup, this is the way. A semi- circular cut with a jig saw. A quarter inch may do it. A neodymium magnet if you rent or don’t want to take the plunge.

in_the_gloaming

I absolutely would NOT cut into the bottom of a cabinet to fix this issue. So many "noninvasive" ways to handle it.

Nandabun

"I'd make a gift hole in my box for holding things!" Like.. lol.

XenaWarrior6658

An S hook that screws into the cabinet to catch the front of the lifted door ?

SoCalGal2021

This. So you can hook it and then unhook it when needed

topsecretusername12

I was thinking along the lines of this. Just something to prop it up that easily releases. Also I am not a handyman so I can't picture an S hook, but basically was looking for a piece of wood or something that would move flush or stick out to block it when I wanted it up.

topsecretusername12

Wait, I think I get it... So on the backside of the cabinet since there's a lip, I would drill a screw in, then put the s metal piece on the screw and when I open the washer, it would just catch on the screw? ♥️ Yasss.

Kr_Treefrog2

Quick and dirty - the hook part of a hook and eye latch screwed into the underside of the cabinet in just the right place to hook the lip of the washer lid, $3 A little more sleek - a heavy duty rare earth/neodymium magnet with mounting holes attached to the underside of the cabinet. You can even get anti-scratch rubber-coated ones, $10-$20 Fussy - raise the cabinets higher if there’s room so the washer lid clears, $0 and a bit of swearing DIY - remove the cabinets and replace with shelves, $100+ Pricy - replace the cabinets with shorter ones so the washer lid clears the underside, $150+ each or less if you buy secondhand Expensive - replace the top-loading washer with a front-loading washer

topsecretusername12

Thank you for the detailed response. I'm looking for quick and dirty but appreciate the other options

topsecretusername12

Didn't fully understand your response until now but another reply had the same $3 idea and I get the concept now. TYSM! $3 fixes that do the job was exactly what I was looking for

SCADAPack

Pull the washer out like 3 inches..

Full_Collection_4347

How is the door supposed to get impeded if you do that?

onimush115

Get it of here with your common sense!

Imherebecausebored

Cut a peice of wood about 30mm by 10mm. Hold it in place against the bottom of the cabinet so that the lid is held open but not completely. Screw the piece in to the cabinet about 25mm away from the washer door. (Edit: i mean the screw should be that far away. Not the whole piece of wood. Creating a kind of swing gate.) You now have a twistable block that will hole the door open when needed.

particularswamp

Velcro tape or a magnet

shagdidz

Simple hook on eyelet screwed in will do the trick

TinyKingg

Wooden stick as a prop. Break one about the length and prop up the door. BAM!!!

topsecretusername12

Now we're talking. I do like collecting sticks, might as well put them to use. (Drift Wood, not sticks that are going to shed into my laundry lol)

alleecmo

Pull the washer forward maybe two inches, and problem solved. No magnets, no cutting cabinet bottoms, no anything.

Pristine-Variety-805

Magnets, one on the cabinet, on the inside of the lid. The lid is probably magnetic, but two magnets will hold better

snboarder42

Magnet.

vorker42

Magnet!

Itchecksout_76

Magnet

vorker42

Magnet

Gindotto

One of those zip ties

Understanding2424

Move the cabinet up a few inches. Or look at your washer and make sure that it doesn’t have “risers all the way extended on its feet.

Zoodoz2750

In the same way, some car bonnets are held open via a rod. A pole the right length will fit into the corner recess of the washing machine opening and the lid. No need then to butcher the cabinet.

Full_Collection_4347

Cut the bottom of the cabinet with a sawzall. I would put something like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-18-in-Heavy-Duty-Hanging-Quick-Release-Hooks-with-Carabiner-Strap-HD00138-TH/312387485 Under the cabinet with a screw and hook the latch from the washer on it to hold it up. You could use anything really a piece of yard or rope you have laying around.
