I’m only a novice but I have found success with reading Frawley way of reception it is however different from the way medievalist would read reception which is what the person is referring too.

Thanks! Interesting that there could be such diametrically opposite opinions!

This misunderstanding emerges a lot, and for some reason makes some people really, really angry (someone once told me they thought John Frawley was 'the worst thing to happen to astrology in the last century, which seemed a bit dramatic). The proof is in the pudding, though - thousands (if not tens of thousands) of horary charts demonstrate the principle that if planet A that is in planet B's exaltation it exalts that planet - Saturn in Pisces exalts Venus, looking favourably upon her. Think about it with basic logic the two basic options are: 1. I (Saturn) am in a place that exalts someone (Venus) - lifts them up - so I am surrounded by things or people that make them look great. I am likely to see that person favourably. It is literally a place where Venus would be at her best, so by being there you sympathise with Venus things. Saturn likes Venus. 2. Another person (Venus) is in a place I (Saturn) hate, so I hate that person. My next door neighbour likes bowling, which I don't like. He's in the bowling alley, so I hate him. I know which one makes sense to me, at least! I don't know what the astrological background of the person who commented on your question is, but clearly they do horary in a very different way to most people who use this subreddit. That is their prerogative, but 'Frawley is wrong' is unhelpful, and quite incorrect. Try this out for yourself - when you do a relationship chart, get really solid context from the querent and map it out. If the querent says 'he's only after me for sex!', which format of reception describes that? I'd wager you'll find the man's significators sitting in some dignities of Venus (often descriptive of a woman's beauty or sexuality), which is very common.

Thanks! That bowling alley example of the counter-choice was wonderful elucidation!

I always advise people to read beyond their starter books - read Dykes (critically - it's a translation after all, so is subject to biases) and other horary texts you find. Just remember that horary is a purely practical art - it has to work. If anyone (John Frawley, a commenter online, William Lilly's literal ghost) states that X is 'how it works', the only way to know for sure is to test it yourself.

Yes, that's true, practice is extremely important. Haven't read Dykes so far, will read him. I guess you mean Öner Döşer's *The Art of Horary Astrology*, edited by Dykes?
