There's a great mid/late 90s TV series called Dark Skies which I loved as a kid. Only 1 season, but it's chock full of those types of aliens, called greys.
Some freaky scenes, set in the 60s and weaves in real life major events like the Beatles coming to America, the space race, peace marches etc. into the storylines and mix in some nice alien conspiracy stuff. Worth a look, and whenever someone mentions the Dark Skies movie I always think of this series haha
I just commented this. I really should have read the thread first.
Agreed in that it was a great series. Always remember pulling the children in cocoons out of the cows.
The first 2-3 seasons the alien conspiracy episodes were my favorite, but eventually that story got so convoluted the MOTW episodes were just more fun and satisfying.
Such a good show!
Came for [Anna Torv](https://www.google.com/search?q=anna+torv&rlz=1CATRYO_enUS1099&oq=anna+torv&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCDIzNTZqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8), stayed for the immensely entertaining story's!
Season 3 is probably my favorite.
Fire in the Sky is quite different from the book, if I recall, but the changes definitely make for a better horror type film. I always loved how it was a perfect blend of horror, suspense, and police procedural.
Communion (1989),based on abduction experiencer Whitley Strieber’s book (albeit a bit loosely). I’m not sure how it holds up on a first watch nowadays, but definitely freaked me out as a kid. It’s my favorite film of its kind, and for my money one of Christopher Walken’s best performances.
Fire In the Sky's abduction sequence is so out of pocket that Travis Walton (the guy who experienced the actual case the film is based on) watched it and was unsettled.
> Fire in the sky
And stick with it, you'll be like "wtf nothing is happening" but it has the single greatest and most traumatizing alien abduction scene in history
I saw it when I was 9 and the alien abduction image always stuck in my mind for years. I couldn't remember the name of the movie but all I knew was the scene terrified me.
This movie fucked me up as a teenager and it’s stuck with me to this day. I’ve still only seen it the one time, in the theater, and that was enough for my lifetime.
I love *Incident in Lake County*. It's cheesy with some real made-for-TV grade acting, but there is something about it that just gets under my skin.
I usually describe this to people as 'imagine if someone made a full length movie based on the birthday party scene from *Signs*'
The Vast of Night is a great movie. It's alien based, but damn it shot well, good acting, beautiful long shots. I need to watch it again now that I'm typing this out.
This is the one. New fear unlocked.
I had never been scared by alien movies, but this one I have not been able to rewatch because I happen to be alone every time I think about watching it and I'm not doing that.
You want good horror movies with a Grey like alien?
Extraterrestrial
Night Skies
Fire in the Sky
The Gracefield Incident
Dark Encounter (I wouldn't call this horror but maybe a thriller, also the story in my opinion was incredible)
Alien Abduction
Dark Skies
OP this one isn't the classic gray alien you're looking for, but as far as alien movies go it's absolutely incredible and definitely worth watching, I highly highly recommend you give it a shot even tho it's not exactly what you're looking for.
Yeah, I think even though it’s not exactly what OP asked for, if they like Signs, Nope gave me some of that same vibe. A family trying to figure out wtf is happening. I just loved the sister, she was pretty awesome, and fun to watch.
I do really love this movie for how unique the creature was, but I will be honest, I did go into it originally expecting and hoping for some grey stuff, and there's a part in the first third of the movie that REALLY tickled that itch before giving me blue-balls for the rest of the movie, which kind of disappointed me a bit. I wish somebody had told me what I'm trying to do in this post and say THERE ARE NO GREYS IN THIS MOVIE, but the movie is still very good and incredibly unique, and while there may not be any actual greys, the creature in this movie will absolutely satisfy.
OP, this one right here. It’s the second (and last?) movie by the Vicious Brothers after Grave Encounters. Pretty similar feeling of intensity to that one, and super satisfying payoff.
came here to say this. i'm a huge fucking alien nerd and this is one of my most favorite alien movies ever, it's so slept on it's insane imo. thr background to my phone is actually a shot from this movie lmao
I'm a huge fan of both the 1956 original and 1978 remake of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well as both the original 1951 film The Thing from Another World and the 1982 John Carpenter remake The Thing.
- This was the top comment i have saved from an old thread regarding the famous Victor Alien interview
—————————
Context:
This is an interview by Steven Cambian, pertaining to the 1997 tele-film "Area 51: The Alien Interview", which was directed by Jeff Broadstreet.
"Area 51: The Alien Interview" can be watched in its entirety on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxVuPoE2qf8
...or, jump directly to the "Victor" section, which contains the purported alien interview (the "puppet" footage):
https://youtu.be/AxVuPoE2qf8?t=1809
"Victor" is alleged to be someone who smuggled a tape of an interview with an extraterrestrial out of the Area 51 complex in the 1990s. He appears silhouetted with his voice digitally disguised, which is claimed to be for his safety.
Cambian tries to get to the bottom of whether the Victor section of the film was real or not, from the angle of "who is Victor?"
--
The people involved:
• Steven Cambian, investigator and host of Truthseekers.
• Jim Dilettoso, suspected of doing the voice-work for "Victor", interviewed extensively by Cambian for the 2nd hour of the show.
• The late Robert Dean, UFO whistleblower - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Dean_(ufologist), who appears in the 1997 film.
• Jeff Broadstreet, director of the 1997 film.
--
Mr. Cambian's conclusions:
• "Victor" was physically portrayed by Robert Dean. The silhouette of Victor apparently wears the same jacket and tie as Mr. Dean.
• Mr. Cambian used audio software to "un-disguise" Victor's voice, finding that the interviewer and Victor shared the same voice, and are therefore the same person.
• Cambian says an anonymous source informed him Dilettoso had played the voice of Victor and confronts Dilettoso over the phone. Dilettoso repeatedly denies having been Victor or the interviewer.
• It turns out the Dilettoso angle is a red herring, as Mr. Cambian concludes the film's director, Jeff Broadstreet, provided the voice of both the interviewer and Victor, digitally disguising his voice and dubbing it over Robert Dean.
• Broadstreet is apparently known for suing people, and Cambian sought to avoid that by streaming his program pointing the finger at Jim Dilettoso, letting his audience point out the voice actually sounds like film director Jeff Broadstreet.
--
Summary:
Mr. Cambian's conclusion is the director of the 1997 film "Area 51: The Alien Interview" - Jeff Broadstreet - did the voice-work for Victor himself, revealing Victor not as an Area 51 whistleblower, but rather a fictional character.
Darkest Hour
The Blackout (2019) - plot twist that we are the invaders sent by aliens!

These may not be all traditional aliens but are cool movies to check out imo
District 9 - not really scary but a cool take on aliens imo. Starts out a documentary then gets move interesting as it goes

I’m just scrolling here quite a few I’ve never seen! Adding to my watchlist!
To help contribute I’m straining for grey type aliens but the only thing I can think of that’s prob not been said at the time of this scroll is a film from 2009 that is more thriller/mystery but may be spoilers revealing here.
I’ve got one for you.. Dark Skies. It’s freaky! The build up is so good! Highly recommend it. Also No One Will Save You is a newer alien movie and it’s pretty good.
You want to be freaked out I would reccomend the movie that permanently terrified me as a kid. It's a made for TV movie called "Intruders", 1992 based on the book by the same name by Budd Hopkins. Involves hypnosis, EXTREMELY disturbing flashbacks, Grey's, government cover ups the whole 9 yards.
Greys are always abducting sometimes it's not even scary (Close Encounters) - here are some scarier ones:
No One Will Save You (2023) Not quite on track with grey lore but should not disappoint
The McPherson Tape (1989) - found footage greys. Not big budget but compelling, the ending is the banger so you need watch it fully through. I replayed the end like 20 times to try to understand and cuz it was cool.
Communion (1989) - it's about grey aliens and pretty woo woo and has late 80s Christopher Walken. Is it scary? Not sure but it has abduction scenes
Fire In the Sky (1993) 90s grey abduction lore at least one good scene in a spaceship
Edit: ok so I read the comment and looks like most of these were recommended multiple times along with a number of other good ones with the exception of The McPherson Tape so now strongly recommending it especially since it's early lore and influenced some of the other recs.
It's not billed as a horror, but personally, Arrival scared the shit out of me, especially since it did the Lovecraftian thing of never showing what the aliens fully look like so your imagination just fills the gap with horrific imagery born of your own mind.
If you want Grey alien, I would recommend the movie Nope if you haven't seen it. One of my all time favs for how unique and not overdone into the ground it was. Check it out if you haven't seen it and you want a creepy atmosphere.
You MUST watch Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, season 1 episode 3 "The Autopsy".
WOW is it awesome! I was let down by the rest of the series (anthology) but that episode is so freaking good and the ending is honestly 11/10 satisfying.
Have you seen the Forgotten, from 2004? For the most part, the aliens go disguised as humans, but for the single scene you DO see the grey... just one of most well-done jump scares, right behind the bum from Mulholland Dr.
*Pod.* Trust me on this one.
*Kids vs Aliens,* though it is played for laughs mostly.
*Extraterrestrial*, the 2014 joint that has the indomitable Michael Ironside as a conspiracy nut!
That's all I got on the "traditional" type alien or something like it.
Oh, and *Resident Alien* TV series. They show up around season 2, but it's worth it.
*Roswell* (1994). Classic take on the Roswell incident in 1947, starring Kyle MacLachlan of *Twin Peaks* fame. I and my childhood best friend were super into aliens and UFOs as kids and this was our go-to film. I'm surprised it's not mentioned already since it's essentially *the* bug eyed grey men story.
Not sure they’re all horror exactly, but here goes.

- No one will save you was a surprisingly good film.
- Alien is a must see classic that is still awesome.
- Life is enjoyable, even if it’s just an alien rip off.
- The thing doesn’t necessarily fill these standards that you mentioned but I still recommend it whenever I can.
Try some of the oldies Alien,Aliens,The Thing,Predator. The thing prequel after the original with Kurt Russell. The Blob,Killer Klowns from outer space.
The news footage scene from "Signs" is indeed one of the most terrifying ever filmed. "The Thing", "Alien" and "Aliens" remain the paragons of that genre. "2001 A Space Odyssey". 1978s "Invasion of the Body Snatchers": and the original version from the 50s are both awesome. "V" is an excellent mini series from 1983. "The Martian Chronicles" from 1980 is also awesome. "Alien Nation" was an excellent TV show from 1988. "To Serve Man" is still a very creepy episode from the Twilight Zone, so is "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?" And "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street". "Close Encounters" is not a horror movie but there's creepy scenes in it. "The War of the Worlds" from 1953. "A Quiet Place" has a terrifying plot and terrifying Aliens. "The Descent" is another little seen masterpiece with terrifying Aliens. (Or actually terrestrial earth monsters... Similar in many ways to Aliens).
They weren't. Kinda confusing why that's there.
I did another movie called "The Descent" which might also fit the bill but I think it's in post prodution
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21980614/?ref_=tt_sims_tt_i_2
Yeah I meant "monsters"...some people say aliens to lump all otherworldly creatures in a sci-fi setting together. But you're right, they're monsters from earth; living underground; kind of like the alien-like Moorlock monsters also living underground in HG Wells' Time Machine...
Monsters/Aliens...Most people lump creature features into one big bucket, that's why I said that.
Technically they're called "Crawlers"; (according to the IMDB); demons or some sort of underground dwellers that were always there....
My biggest fear and scariest genre of movies is *still* aliens. And now this thread. I didn't sleep for days after first seeing The Fourth Kind.
I'll be seeing myself out 😱
Dark Skies was pretty good. I don't remember if the aliens were grey tho.

I just commented this. I really should have read the thread first. Agreed in that it was a great series. Always remember pulling the children in cocoons out of the cows.
dark skies had a creepy vibe to it
Oh I forgot about that! The corridor scene at the end is terrifying.
Bit obvious but half of X-Files is about them!
What I like about XFiles is they don't just focus on aliens. The witchcraft and cult episodes are pretty creepy. Files is amazing!
The monster-of-the-week episodes are my favorite by far.
The first 2-3 seasons the alien conspiracy episodes were my favorite, but eventually that story got so convoluted the MOTW episodes were just more fun and satisfying.
Yeah I was watching it seriously and after the first few seasons the myth arc just became silly
Check out Fringe, if you haven’t.
Yeah, such a great show! Dunham is the best
Some of the creepiest episodes are not alien. Home....
Watching these right now and have to agree!
I'm rewatching season 3, just such a good show. Gillian is a top actress, the dialogues are amazing and the directing top notch.
Amazing show especially first 4 seasons! I have a soft spot for the 1rst one, low budget but very haunting atmosphere
There was a tv show called Dark Skies that focused on the Men In Black. Only ran for a season but it had some great creepy ideas and memorable eps.
Yep. And the first X-Files movie was really good, IMO.
No One Will Save You had some good aliens. Fire in the Sky is another off the top of my head.
Watch Communion first if you can , there are a few homage scenes in No One will Save You
I was recommended this and went in blind and was not expecting to end up seeing what I saw
No one will save you had awesome alien designs. I just wish the ending was a bit different lol
I have the exact same opinion. Great movie, ending was weak.
I lost many nights of sleep from this movie. I’m still scared of those types of aliens to this day.
It definitely sticks with you! That one peeking behind the corner. Yikes
The book cover still gives me weird vibes. Something unsettling about it
> one of Christopher Walken’s best performances He takes it in the dumper like a champ.
His great-great grandfather’s watch was up there, this ain’t his first rodeo
Tbf, it was Butch’s great great grandfather’s watch but he still did have it up his ass
Fire in the sky, one of the best abduction movies you’ll ever see.
Fire In the Sky's abduction sequence is so out of pocket that Travis Walton (the guy who experienced the actual case the film is based on) watched it and was unsettled.
> Fire in the sky And stick with it, you'll be like "wtf nothing is happening" but it has the single greatest and most traumatizing alien abduction scene in history
Uh yeah, I saw this scene as a child and it started my lifelong fear of greys. Do not recommend for little kids.
Why is this not higher? First one to come to my mind
Altered. I hold a special place in my heart for it. May not be the best, but it has lived in my head since I saw it. That's got to mean something!
Ah yes, the reverse alien abduction movie.
Really glad to see Altered was mentioned, though it is not traditional grays. It's legit a great alien flick.
The OG of found footage “The McPherson Tape” or its 1998 remake “Alien Abduction: Incident In Lake County”
I love *Incident in Lake County*. It's cheesy with some real made-for-TV grade acting, but there is something about it that just gets under my skin. I usually describe this to people as 'imagine if someone made a full length movie based on the birthday party scene from *Signs*'
You just sold it for me
The original is on Hulu, but I can’t find Lake County anywhere. They’re so much fun.
https://youtu.be/oPIO72sJZNU?si=Z2n2FedaycpGh81e
Sputnik is a newer one I really enjoyed. I will also always recommend The Fourth Kind, it is super freaky aha
I've rewatched Sputnik half a dozen times. Great movie.
I love Sputnik.
Sputnik was so unexpectedly good!
Sputnik was great, amazing atmosphere
Fire In The Sky (1993) .. Definitely the grey aliens you’re looking for.
Came to recommend this one too. 👌
Samesies
**No one will save you** is very creative and has a very interesting ending.
The Vast of Night is a great movie. It's alien based, but damn it shot well, good acting, beautiful long shots. I need to watch it again now that I'm typing this out.
Fuck yes. This was such a great surprise to stumble across. Felt like this movie was made specifically for me. Top 3 favorite of mine.
really cool film.
This was my recc, too. Has such a classic feel with the 50s setting.
Man, that long shot at the beginning was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
Came looking for this one. Low budget but really did a lot with what they had
Fire in the Sky is pure nightmare fuel
The Fourth Kind
This is the one. New fear unlocked. I had never been scared by alien movies, but this one I have not been able to rewatch because I happen to be alone every time I think about watching it and I'm not doing that.
Watch the X-Files. It's already creepy by its own merits, but if you are scared of aliens you're in for a treat.
Event Horizon
Great movie!
One of my absolute favorites. I keep hearing there is a TV show in the works I hope thats true!
Fantastic movie, I've seen it like 3 times since the beginning of the year alone. However, I don't think it fits this thread.
Why doesn’t it fit this thread?
OP was asking for movies featuring the Grey aliens often associated with UFOs and etcetera.
Communion 1989 if you also want to see one of Christopher Walkens most bat shit performances
The last segment of V/H/S 2 is pretty decent alien found footage
You want good horror movies with a Grey like alien? Extraterrestrial Night Skies Fire in the Sky The Gracefield Incident Dark Encounter (I wouldn't call this horror but maybe a thriller, also the story in my opinion was incredible) Alien Abduction Dark Skies
> Extraterrestrial I WAY underestimated how much I would like this film.
Glad you liked it
Nope It's part horror, part action/adventure, but it's incredible and has a few really gruesome scenes. I loved it.
Yep, this is my recommendation,
I think it’s already listed, but definitely check out Dark Skies.
Extraterrestrial (2014) is underrated and has that classic alien build.
This is the one I was coming to mention. Classic Grays.
Under The Skin, Nope
Intruders 1992. One of the best Alien Abduction movies ever made and its free on YouTube
Miniseries
The Forgotten is good.
Dark skies!!!!!!!!
The Arrival, 1996
I'm a huge fan of both the 1956 original and 1978 remake of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well as both the original 1951 film The Thing from Another World and the 1982 John Carpenter remake The Thing.
No one will save you 2023 and Honeymoon 2014
Always nice to see *Honeymoon* mentioned!
Significant Other was very unexpected and interesting

I’m also here to second No One Will Save You. awesome classic alien movie with a really interesting and well executed premise
Dark Skies for sure
Fire in the Sky! And it's based on true events!
The 4th kind
No one will Save you. Came out last year.
No One Will Save You. I think it’s on Netflix?
Alien is a classic you didn’t mention! It’s more of an action but District 9 was really fantastic too
Shii i just saw Life and Alien: covenant so fucking good 🔥
Not sure if it counts but Communion that's messed up, 'Forgotten'
Life
You MUST watch Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, season 1 episode 3 "The Autopsy". WOW is it awesome! I was let down by the rest of the series (anthology) but that episode is so freaking good and the ending is honestly 11/10 satisfying.
The Alien Factor (1978). Not to be missed.
Dark Skies is one of my favorites
Grey skies is terrifying in my opinion! And yes they got your classic grey aliens. They’re even called the greys lol
Have you seen the Forgotten, from 2004? For the most part, the aliens go disguised as humans, but for the single scene you DO see the grey... just one of most well-done jump scares, right behind the bum from Mulholland Dr.
The movie “nope”
*Pod.* Trust me on this one. *Kids vs Aliens,* though it is played for laughs mostly. *Extraterrestrial*, the 2014 joint that has the indomitable Michael Ironside as a conspiracy nut! That's all I got on the "traditional" type alien or something like it. Oh, and *Resident Alien* TV series. They show up around season 2, but it's worth it.
I watched Pod on your recommendation, thanks, loved it!
Altered 2006
Dreamcatcher.
No One Will Save You.
Skyline. It’s technically not a horror movie, but it’s a thriller/sci-fi flick. Good alien horror films are Altered, District 9 and Dark Skies.
Hell star remina
VHS/2 The Slumber Party segment.
Cloverfield maybe?
Hated the fourth kind. Get fire in the sky.
FUCK YEAH FOURTH KIND!!!
Attack the block 2011 Night skies 2007 Fire in the sky 1993 Extraterrestrial 2014 Snatchers 2019 Crawlers 2020 Altered 2006 No one will save you 2023 The shadow men 1997 Area 51 2015 Phoenix forgotten 2017 The Phoenix incident 2015 The Phoenix tapes 97 2016 Alienators 2018 Alien abduction incident in lake county 1998 Alien abduction 2005 Welcome to willits 2016 Skyman 2019 Apollo 18 2011 Save yourselves 2020 The ufo incident 1975 Kids vs aliens 2022 The vast of night 2019 McPherson tape
The fourth kind
There was a short lived TV Series on NBC in the 90s called Dark Skies too. It was really good and pretty damn creepy

Not about aliens
Dark Skies and Fire in the Sky are two of my favorites
Not horror but close encounters of the third kind used to scare me as a kid
Fire in the Sky!!!!!
Mars Attacks
The first insidious film springs to mind
No One Will Save You on Hulu
Alien and Aliens are two of the best movies ever made, can't go wrong.
Those things from Descent were aliens?
They weren't. Kinda confusing why that's there. I did another movie called "The Descent" which might also fit the bill but I think it's in post prodution https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21980614/?ref_=tt_sims_tt_i_2
Yeah I meant "monsters"...some people say aliens to lump all otherworldly creatures in a sci-fi setting together.
I corrected the original post
Dreamcatcher Fire in the sky
Life
My biggest fear and scariest genre of movies is *still* aliens. And now this thread. I didn't sleep for days after first seeing The Fourth Kind. I'll be seeing myself out 😱
