This scene in Shark Attack 3: Megalodon is the greatest moment in killer shark movie history though:
[Shark Attack 3 - That Famous Line](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1XOfHax6Q8)
The Thing (1982): "Man is the warmest place to hide."
Hellraiser (1987): "He'll tear your soul apart."
Pet Sematary (1989): "Sometimes dead is better."
#
"If Nancy doesn't wake up screaming, she won't wake up at all." - Nightmare on Elm Street
"Be afraid. Be very afraid." - The Fly
"The monster demands a mate!" - Bride of Frankenstein
This one needs more love. It's one of the more subtle but iconic ones, that bridge between the more pithy taglines and the more obvious "See! In Living Color, Blood, Gore, Brains!" type ones.
“Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water” - Jaws
“If this one doesn’t scare you, you’re already dead.” - Phantasm
“Check in. Relax. Take a shower.” - Psycho reboot
“Some things won’t stay down.. even after they die.” - Dead Alive
“Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water... you can't get to it" - Blood Beach
This one is great, but it only works if you know the tagline for Jaws 2
[Redbubble has it for you.](https://www.redbubble.com/i/t-shirt/Alan-In-Space-Nobody-Can-Hear-You-In-Space-by-indiana2091/61586603.FB110) But please do support your local businesses instead!
That tagline for Scream was used on UK VHS covers for a while during it’s release, the back of the cover used to scare me so badly as it showed Ghostface’s white mask, but red, and it showed Casey screaming looking up, which made me think Ghostface an actual thing that could fly. Still have nightmares about that to this day.
That mask scared me as a kid too. I always conflated it with Goosebumps' haunted mask and thought it would get stuck on my face or something and turn me into a monster. Man are kids imaginative.
Anyway now I collect Scream things and cosplay Ghostface. Yes, with the voice changer... Sort of. Funny how that goes. And of course if I ever see any kids scared, it's mask off go comfort them. I know what it feels like to be a child and afraid, and never want to be someone who causes that for a kid.
The cover itself in the UK box is more unnerving than the cover used on most other releases. Something about how the face is so close, with none of the actors below it to form a sort of barrier.
A drive-in movie theater near me here in Cleveland showed Killer Klowns for Halloween this past year. I hadn't seen the movie in a long time and boy was it a blast!
I love the original House of Wax so much that I could never bring myself to watch the remake. I've been told that it has nothing to do with the original.
Suspiria a great one on the UK posters at one point. I think it went.
"The only thing scarier than the first 12 mins of this movie, are the last 12 mins."
That movie isn't really scary to me but it does have a really eerie and unsettling vibe to it, which is a fun combo with the Technicolor. Definitely a unique flick.
Every time I think of Hellraiser I always had this funny idea of like a "what if" that it was a porno that's disguised as a horror movie so that people don't get "caught"
Or that It was written by teenagers with dirty minds
Eating Raoul is one of my favorite movies and I absolutely love that Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov have a cameo in Chopping Mall as their characters from Eating Raoul making fun of the Killbots during the guy's presentation.
Ginger Snaps:
Ginger Snaps....AND Bites
28 Days Later:
His fear began when he woke up alone. His terror began when he realised he wasn’t
Dawn of the Dead:
When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.
As Above, So Below:
The only way out is down.
Thanks, I appreciate that! I love movie taglines in general and horror movies always seem to have the best taglines, or at the very least the most overly dramatic ones.
“Give your soul to the dance.” -*Suspiria (2018)*
“Sister, sister, oh so fair, why is there blood all over your hair?” -*What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?*
“Sea evil.” -*Ghost Ship* (just because it’s so cheesy)
Goosebumbs was after my time. When I was a kid in the late 80's & early 90's I was obsessed with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Are You Afraid of the Dark on Nickelodeon, the short story "The Monkey's Paw," the books of John Bellairs, and Edward Gorey's animated title sequence for Masterpiece Mystery.
Urban Legend - "It happened to someone who knows someone you know"
The Omen - "If something frightening happens to you today, think about it. It may be a warning. It may be The Omen"
I always remembered that "cousin who knew it from their cousin who knew it from their cousin who knew it from their sister" line from the Sea Bear episode of SpongeBob as a kid and never knew where it originated from
Kudos on mentioning a tagline for a movie that doesn't even exist! I love in the fake trailer Edgar Wright did for Grindhouse called Don't when the voice-over on the trailer says, "Don't look behind, don't look in there, don't look up, don't look anywhere."
Dr Giggles: “The doctor is out…of his mind.”
Mountaintop Motel Massacre: “Please don’t disturb Evelyn. She already is!”
Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan: “New York has a new problem.”
Demons: "They will make cementeries their cathedrals, and the cities will be your tombs."
Phantoms: "For centuries they told us terror would come from above... We've been looking the wrong way."
one of my favorites is from child’s play!
“someone’s moved in with the barkley family… & so has terror” & “no one believes the truth… or lives to tell it”.
"She's evil... And not just high school evil."
- 'Jennifer's Body'
'The only thing more terrifying than the last 12 minutes of this film are the first 92."
- 'Suspiria'
that dawn of the dead tagline instilled fear in me as an eight year old. i already scare pretty easily as a kid back then, but reading that on the dvd release had me thinking zombies will actually walk the earth any time soon.
Halloween 2007 - Evil Has a Destiny
They were warned, they were doomed and on Friday the 13th, nothing will save them - Friday the 13th
If Nancy doesn't wake up screaming, she won't wake up at all. - Nightmare on Elm Street
The Lucky Ones die first - Hills Have Eyes 06
Where Shopping can Cost you an Arm and a Leg - Chopping Mall
If you've got a Taste for Terror, take Carrie to prom - Carrie
Kiss your Nerves goodbye - Evil Dead 2
welcome to the witching hour - The Craft
New Decade New Rules - Scream 4
Terror.....in the Flesh - Cabin Fever
Every Puzzle has it's Pieces - Saw
I warned you not to go out at Night - Maniac
you have the right to remain silent....forever - Maniac Cop
By Sword, By Pick, By Axe Bye Bye - The Mutilator
There Will Be No Leftovers - Thanksgiving
Your Flesh will melt right off your bones - Creepozoids
Those are all bangers (never heard of Sister) but I don't think any really top Alien.
I will say one of the greats was Poltergeist. "They're here." I can't *not* hear it in Heather O'Rourke's haunting, sing-song voice. Any time I read those 2.5 words I *always* have to drag out the 'here' part.
Same with Saw. "I want to play a game," "Live or die. Make your choice." and "Oh yes, there will be blood" I hear in Tobin Bell's raspy breath every time.
The Thing- Man is the warmest place to hide But I second "In space no one can hear you scream" it is the most iconic one I would say
omg the Thing, that's a good one
Kudos to who ever came up with the tagline for The Thing.
[ALAN](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F9ljqrens1cs61.jpg)
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water - Jaws 2
Excellent tagline.
First one to pop into my head as well.
"Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water—\*\*you can't get to it." -\*\* Blood Beach
Such a great tagline, too bad the movie was absolute garbage
At least it was infinitely better than Jaws: The Revenge. Than again, most movies are infinitely better than Jaws: The Revenge.
Jaws 19 is the best Jaws sequel imo
This scene in Shark Attack 3: Megalodon is the greatest moment in killer shark movie history though: [Shark Attack 3 - That Famous Line](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1XOfHax6Q8)
Scream 5 had such a good tagline on its poster. It showed the full cast and at the bottom of it it said: “The killer is on this poster”
There's also "Which One Will Stab You In The Back" which has the same feel.
I have that original poster, one of my favourites!
The Thing (1982): "Man is the warmest place to hide." Hellraiser (1987): "He'll tear your soul apart." Pet Sematary (1989): "Sometimes dead is better." #
"Sometimes dead... is *bettah." I fixed it. ☺️
I have a shirt that says sometimes dead is better and the amount of people who have said it to me like Judd when I’m wearing it, omg…
Okay I have been on the fence about ordering this Pet Sematary shirt I have in my cart but now I HAVE to get it lol -- which shirt do you have?
Ayuh 😉
Sometimes, bread is butthud.
Re-Animator: Herbert West has a good head on his shoulders… and another one on his desk.
So perfect. Re-Animator is such a fun horror movie
I finally watched Bride of Re-Animator and I was surprised that I liked it almost as much as the original.
I'll have to give it a shot then, I didn't expect it to be any good
"If Nancy doesn't wake up screaming, she won't wake up at all." - Nightmare on Elm Street "Be afraid. Be very afraid." - The Fly "The monster demands a mate!" - Bride of Frankenstein
Reminded me of Hereditary's: Evil Runs in the Family.
I read the Nightmare tagline in the paper back in the day. Hands down the best tagline ever.
I like the original Elm Street better, what's your opinions? NO FIGHTING
black christmas, "if your skin doesn't crawl it's on too tight"
This one needs more love. It's one of the more subtle but iconic ones, that bridge between the more pithy taglines and the more obvious "See! In Living Color, Blood, Gore, Brains!" type ones.
“Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water” - Jaws “If this one doesn’t scare you, you’re already dead.” - Phantasm “Check in. Relax. Take a shower.” - Psycho reboot “Some things won’t stay down.. even after they die.” - Dead Alive
“Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water... you can't get to it" - Blood Beach This one is great, but it only works if you know the tagline for Jaws 2
Yeah I have already cringed about leaving out the 2.
Phantasm was the one I thought of! Good call!
I saw a bootleg Alien shirt once that read “In space no one can hear you in space” and I really want it lol
I think I might go to a local print shop here in Cleveland and have them slap it on a t-shirt for me.
[Redbubble has it for you.](https://www.redbubble.com/i/t-shirt/Alan-In-Space-Nobody-Can-Hear-You-In-Space-by-indiana2091/61586603.FB110) But please do support your local businesses instead!
That's amazing 😂
Strangers: You were home
Very smart little tag line, made me watch the movie more than the trailer did.
One of the bleakest lines in horror.
This tagline perfectly encapsulates why that movie scared me too much to watch it. It could happen to literally anyone.
“Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas.” - Army of Darkness
Another one of my personal favs.
The Hills Have Eyes - "The lucky ones died first..."
It certainly left an impression on me as a kid. When I got into horror years later, THHE was the one of the first films I saw.
Saw II: Oh yes, there will be blood. Scream: Don’t Answer The Phone, Don’t Open The Door, Don’t Try To Escape Midsommar: Let The Festivities Begin
I was waiting for Scream's tagline. Bonus points for "Someone has taken their love of scary movies one step too far", which was from an older ad.
I know what it feels like to be a child and afraid, and never want to be someone who causes that for a kid.
I’d love it if you called me scared the hell out of me.
The cover itself in the UK box is more unnerving than the cover used on most other releases. Something about how the face is so close, with none of the actors below it to form a sort of barrier.
Love Saw.
Killer Clowns From Outer Space: In Space, no one can eat ice cream.
A drive-in movie theater near me here in Cleveland showed Killer Klowns for Halloween this past year. I hadn't seen the movie in a long time and boy was it a blast!
House of Wax always had a hilariously blunt one: On May 6th…See Paris Die!
Paris did have an awesome death in that one I also remember the poster tagline: Prey, Slay, Display
I never see house of wax mentioned🥲 childhood fav
I love the original House of Wax so much that I could never bring myself to watch the remake. I've been told that it has nothing to do with the original.
From Beyond. "Humans are such easy prey."
One of my favorite taglines and some of my favorite special effects.
It's the movie that made me a lifelong horror fan!
It's nice to hear From Beyond be a source of inspiration...
Also gave me a lifelong love of sex lube covered puppets!!!! Ain't no cgi ever gonna replace latex covered in Kentucky Jelly!
There's no way to replicate the goopiness of the practical effects with CGI.
Yes! Glad to see one of my favorites mentioned! From Beyond is amazing.
The Blackening - We can’t all die first.
I didnt know that was the tagline, very on brand lol
Just watched this for the first time last night. What a fantastic movie. Instantly one of my favorite horror comedies.
Never seen this but that tag line made me laugh so I'll add it to the list of movies to watch!
You should! It was so much fun
It’s very good
Suspiria a great one on the UK posters at one point. I think it went. "The only thing scarier than the first 12 mins of this movie, are the last 12 mins."
That movie isn't really scary to me but it does have a really eerie and unsettling vibe to it, which is a fun combo with the Technicolor. Definitely a unique flick.
"Demon to some. Angel to others." - Hellraiser
Every time I think of Hellraiser I always had this funny idea of like a "what if" that it was a porno that's disguised as a horror movie so that people don't get "caught" Or that It was written by teenagers with dirty minds
You should check out Clive Barker's erotic photography
Another one of my favorite taglines!
Chopping Mall - It'll cost you an arm and a leg!
Eating Raoul is one of my favorite movies and I absolutely love that Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov have a cameo in Chopping Mall as their characters from Eating Raoul making fun of the Killbots during the guy's presentation.
Ginger Snaps: Ginger Snaps....AND Bites 28 Days Later: His fear began when he woke up alone. His terror began when he realised he wasn’t Dawn of the Dead: When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth. As Above, So Below: The only way out is down.
OP, just wanted to say that this thread was a great idea! Thanks!
Thanks, I appreciate that! I love movie taglines in general and horror movies always seem to have the best taglines, or at the very least the most overly dramatic ones.
An American Werewolf in London - "From the director of Animal House... a different kind of animal."
haha you beat me to this had to find another one !
The Lost Boys: Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire.
I used to have a T-Shirt with this on it. So freaking cool
"They're only noodles, Michael" would have also made and excellent tagline.
I have this tattooed on me 😂
That's dedication!
The night HE came home
*In space, no-one can hear you scream…* and from the sublime to the ridiculous: *Ein… zwei… DIE!*
Dead Snow is awesome...
"There's only one thing wrong with the Davis baby... It's Alive" It's Alive 1974, Larry Cohen.
A great tagline for a criminally underrated movie. Now that I think about it, most of Larry Cohen's movies are criminally underrated.
Hellraiser: "Jesus wept."
You know it's awesome when Jesus weeps over how good a movie it is.
“Give your soul to the dance.” -*Suspiria (2018)* “Sister, sister, oh so fair, why is there blood all over your hair?” -*What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?* “Sea evil.” -*Ghost Ship* (just because it’s so cheesy)
The cheesy ones are the best and grab me the most. Always know I'm in for a fun time when they're cheesy.
Pieces: you don’t have to go to Texas for a chainsaw massacre!
I love the alternate Pieces tagline even more: "Pieces: IT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU THINK IT IS"
Came for this. I wasn’t aware of the other one.
Sharknado -"Enough Said"
Literally came here to either find Sharknado or include it—so ridiculous and they know they’re being this ridiculous 😂
I got one for the next Final Destination. “Death uh… finds a way”
But only if Jeff Goldblum does the narration for the trailer.
*Halloween III: Season of the Witch -* "The night no one comes home." Outstanding film poster.
I love that movie.
And a reference to the first film’s tagline!
“I want to play a game” saw
too damn iconic
So iconic it also is an iconic opening to a great song
I can hear Hello Zepp every time I read that line.
Aliens vs Predators had a good one but I dont remember the exact wording; it was something like “Whoever wins, we lose”
That’s exactly it
The Mutilator (1984)- By pick, by axe, by sword, bye bye!
Popcorn; Buy a bag, go home in a box.
I've never heard of this movie before, but that it definitely one of the greatest taglines I've ever heard.
It's a solid B movie!
The Stuff: are you eating it or is it eating you?
The Stuff might have the greatest single line of dialogue in movie history: "Everybody has to eat shaving cream once in a while."
Just picked up the French DVD of The Stuff because it was released there as, "Yogourt Attack"
Alien vs Predator No matter who wins, we lose.
Suspira (1977) “The only thing more terrifying than the last five minutes of this film are the first 90!”
Thanksgiving - "There Will Be No Leftovers"
Man I fucking love horror movie taglines! I was always inspired by them as a kid, those and Goosebumps made my mind run wild.
Halloween 1 - “The Night He Came Home”
"Pay to get in, pray to get out" - Funhouse
Urban Legend - "It happened to someone who knows someone you know" The Omen - "If something frightening happens to you today, think about it. It may be a warning. It may be The Omen"
I always remembered that "cousin who knew it from their cousin who knew it from their cousin who knew it from their sister" line from the Sea Bear episode of SpongeBob as a kid and never knew where it originated from
“They’re here”
Pearl - "I'm a STARRRRRRRRR" ![gif](giphy|bqPQanYvKh3o3CUwmF|downsized)
I can't wait to see Mia Goth again in MaXXXine...
Pieces: "It's exactly what you think it is."
Maniac Cop 2…You have the right to remain silent…forever!
“They’re coming to get you Barbara” Night of the Living Dead
Society - The Rich have always fed off the poor, This time It's for real
Every horror movie should have a shunting scene. In fact, every movie should have at least a little bit of shunting in it.
Amityville Horror - “For God’s sake get out!”
Surprised nobody has mentioned this one yet, it's just as iconic IMHO as any of the rest.
"The night HE came home."
"The night no one comes home."
Poltergeist: “It knows what scares you.”
*Day of the Dead* - "The darkest day of terror the world has ever known." Fake - *Stab* - "This is gonna hurt."
The darkest day of horror the world has ever known - I’m only being pedantic because I’m staring at the movie poster right now!
Kudos on mentioning a tagline for a movie that doesn't even exist! I love in the fake trailer Edgar Wright did for Grindhouse called Don't when the voice-over on the trailer says, "Don't look behind, don't look in there, don't look up, don't look anywhere."
Bride of Frankenstein: "Who will be the Bride of Frankenstein? Who will dare?" "The Monster is back and he demands a mate!" "The Monster TALKS!"
The Prey was always my favorite. "It's not human... and it's got an axe!"
80s tagline are the best.
Not a movie, but True Detective season 1 immediately comes to mind. “Touch darkness and darkness touches you back.”
Dr Giggles: “The doctor is out…of his mind.” Mountaintop Motel Massacre: “Please don’t disturb Evelyn. She already is!” Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan: “New York has a new problem.”
The Last House on the Left- To avoid fainting, keep repeating: "It's only a movie, only a movie, only a movie..."
"It knows what it wants and it won't stop until it gets it"
“He’s chilling and killing” - Jack Frost Not the best, but my favorite.
Deep Rising: full scream ahead.
No love for Predator 2 here? He’s in town with a few days to kill. . .
Sleepy Hollow - “Heads will roll!”
One of my favorite movies!
Demons: "They will make cementeries their cathedrals, and the cities will be your tombs." Phantoms: "For centuries they told us terror would come from above... We've been looking the wrong way."
#1: Alien “In space no one can hear you scream”. #2: Killer Klowns from Outer Space “In space no one can eat ice cream”.
Warlock - "He's come from the past to destroy the future"
“They haven’t finished being alive“ Martyrs (2008) Also honorable quote mention “it is so easy to create a victim, young lady, so easy”
“In space no one can hear you scream” Is the GOAT.
Nailgun Massacre (Cheaper than a Chainsaw)
Videodrome’s “embrace the new flesh”
Orphan - “There’s something wrong with Esther.”
every 23rd spring for 23 days it gets to eat.
“Freddy vs Jason…place your bets!!!”
Silent Night Deadly night: “You made it through Halloween, now try to survive Christmas.” Hellraiser: “We have such sights to show you.”
Menopause - "Who says the bleeding has to stop?"
God made him simple. Science made him a god Lawnmower Man
Bruh that Sisters tagline goes hard.
Nope - “What’s a bad miracle?” I just thought it was so chilling
“They say there’s nothing new under the sun. But under the ground, there’s…” - Tremors
one of my favorites is from child’s play! “someone’s moved in with the barkley family… & so has terror” & “no one believes the truth… or lives to tell it”.
"She's evil... And not just high school evil." - 'Jennifer's Body' 'The only thing more terrifying than the last 12 minutes of this film are the first 92." - 'Suspiria'
“Trick or Treat, Motherfucker!” Halloween H20
Saw - "live or die, choose your fate" though I think that was for one instance, all other iterations end with "the choice is yours"
Blood Beach (1982) ‘Just when you think it is safe to get back in the water - you can’t get to it’.
that dawn of the dead tagline instilled fear in me as an eight year old. i already scare pretty easily as a kid back then, but reading that on the dvd release had me thinking zombies will actually walk the earth any time soon.
Super Host - “don’t forget to like and survive.”
Halloween 2007 - Evil Has a Destiny They were warned, they were doomed and on Friday the 13th, nothing will save them - Friday the 13th If Nancy doesn't wake up screaming, she won't wake up at all. - Nightmare on Elm Street The Lucky Ones die first - Hills Have Eyes 06 Where Shopping can Cost you an Arm and a Leg - Chopping Mall If you've got a Taste for Terror, take Carrie to prom - Carrie Kiss your Nerves goodbye - Evil Dead 2 welcome to the witching hour - The Craft New Decade New Rules - Scream 4 Terror.....in the Flesh - Cabin Fever Every Puzzle has it's Pieces - Saw I warned you not to go out at Night - Maniac you have the right to remain silent....forever - Maniac Cop By Sword, By Pick, By Axe Bye Bye - The Mutilator There Will Be No Leftovers - Thanksgiving Your Flesh will melt right off your bones - Creepozoids
Army of Darkness: "Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas"
"One way in. No way out." - Green Room
The Fog- What in the Living Hell is out there?
Chopping Mall - “Where shopping costs you an arm and a leg!” Predator 2 - “He’s in town with a few days to kill”
The Corpse Grinders - "Turn bones and flesh into screaming, savage blood death!” so silly.
100% medically accurate!
Fallen. Detective John Hobbes is searching for a criminal he's already met... already caught... and already killed.
“The most frightening thing about Jacob Singer's nightmare is that he isn't dreaming.” - Jacob’s Ladder
I like the one for Pieces: "It's exactly what you think it is!"
Great thread, OP! "In space, no one can hear you scream" is my favorite.
Pieces- "you don't have to go to Texas for a Chainsaw Massacre." Nailgun Massacre- "who will get nailed next."
Stir of Echoes- “Some doors weren’t meant to be opened”
Almost all the great ones have been said but here is a recent one: Thanksgiving - There Will Be No Leftovers
My favorite has to be: Predator 2 - He's in town with a few days to kill.
It's hard to beat the one for the Dutch movie The Lift (1983) > Take the stairs, take the stairs. For God's Sake, take the stairs!!!
