I was also curious about the discrepancy in length between Navidson's copy of HOL and mine. I thought it might have something to do with other "missing" material, like sadly missing Last Interview, or The Song of Quesada and Molino. If there's any answer to be had, I think that we're missing a clue.

Because those are outdated copies missing the Index. The Remastered Full Color Edition contains the Index and adds up to 740 pages if you include the covers and their backside. Take those out and you get 736.
I think theres a picture of the original page where he reads house of leaves in the back of the book, and the actual place where a title should go is blank. I read that as one of Johnny's alterations
