Watched what looked like the birth of a tornado here in spring branch. Didn’t see any kind of condensation funnel but whatever it was took out three transformers at Clay and Hempstead. Now we’re in the dark.

WhoeverAyaIs

I knew those clouds looked sus! Also in spring branch 😭

dno-mart

Also branching. Speaking of branch, tree in my yard split in half. Flower pots with like 20lbs of bricks and dirt blew over. Thought I’d have to go hide in the bathroom at one point. It was crazy!

SavagRavioli

I haven't seen winds like that since hurricane Ike, I'm right off clay and Hempstead as well and I could have sworn there was a Tornado nearby from the winds.

PapiGoneGamer

A house was reported to have collapsed behind us on Rayson Rd.

GlumLanguage528

Right?!!! I’m from Canada and have lived here for 18 years and I agree - it was like Ike

oneofthejoneses28

(I think) I heard about that from my landlord this morning. I heard the kinda hum that comes with a tornado but thought I was just being anxious. Went out to gather my lawn furniture this morning and came back inside looking like a drowned cat Edit: looks like a baby tornado did go through my neighborhood. Several houses including ours have some extremely minor roof damage, and a school bus got flipped. All the kids were fine. Neighbor is a cop and has the best gossip. Currently busting his ass around the neighborhood helping people

dno-mart

Damn, where was the school bus? I knew the wind was crazy when my patio furniture actually blew off the patio. Well it was just the padding from a seat but still. They blow around all the time, but never off.

oneofthejoneses28

I think it was off Birnham, but this is secondhand, so don't trust me on the location. Today has been insane. My fence is leaning and my patio furniture was all over the place, yet my empty soda can from last night never left the yard 🤦‍♀️

PresentMammoth5188

Can’t imagine what those kids are thinking! What a real life rollercoaster and way to end the school year 😳

lets-get-dangerous

Absolutely levelled my fence too

FatsyCline12

I think a tornado went through the Main Street of my neighborhood in spring. There’s an isolated corridor of downed trees, fences and crap everywhere.

HisCricket

On the radar you could see it bow out I'm surprised they didn't issue a tornado warning.

FPSXpert

They may declare one after the fact, like what happened in katy after the storm. Big indicator damage wise is if poles are leaning in multiple directions, shear winds will do that :)

GlumLanguage528

Me too! I thought for sure there would be a tornado warning. Kuykendahl towards 99 was under water. So bad.

ThePatsGuy

I’m not far from there and I thought for a sec my backyard was about to host a tornado. Could feel the instant switch of the winds.

Apet57

Brancher here, tree fell on house, looking down the road that seemed to be the norm. It was like wizard of oz out there. Spring branch seemed to get a real beating.

martinkoistinen

I lived through hurricane Alicia while living in Spring Branch. I hope you guys will be ok!

tightfade

It's like nighttime in Cypress right now

Haunting-Ad3297

It's bad in Spring. I'm not sure how bad or widespread, because all 3 roads out of my neighborhood are blocked with stalled cars. The trash and recycling bins have been floating in the street since 8.

HauntedSpiralHill

Also in spring. My husband almost couldn’t get home from work about an hour ago because Rayford and 45 was really bad. All the side streets were crazy flooded. 99 and Rayford as well as Fox Run were under multiple feet of water. I saw a post on Nextdoor of a dude pulling his trash can in and the water was almost up to his waist.

liftbikerun

This state boggles my mind with people thinking or not caring if their cars make it through foot deep water. I have a lifted 4Runner and still I have zero interest in wading through this stuff. I'll just wait it out.

Corguita

Some people are just dumb, but some people have obligations and responsibilities. A lot of workplaces are really bad about weather events, they'll force you to come in and often won't let you out until it's already flooding. What are you gonna do? Get fired? The job market sucks. I know there's a lot of idiots out there but I also think there's a lot of people with unforgiving bosses that live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford a day off much less to be out of a job.

Munkadunk667

During Hurricane Harvey I watched someone intentionally drive their car into high water with their door open. It's called insurance fraud.

pizzaqualitycontrol

Pretty stupid fraud too because they only pay you replacement value, not new car value. You could literally just sell it rather than go to insurance.

BeardyMcCbeard

If you’ve got a car with serious problems, you might get more value through insurance rather than selling it since those issues could be covered up

DanDrungle

I told my boss after the last time I almost flooded my car trying to get to work that it just wasn’t worth it for me and I’d rather just use a personal day.

JohnnyBrillcream

Imperial Oaks area?

homedude

We left IO at 8am this morning for the airport. IO Blvd, Aldine, were impassable. Birnham woods was closed at the bridge.... finally went out through the falls and creekside. Barely made it. Creekside had tons of damage. Trees and fences in the road. Been sitting at iah ever since and still hoping to fly out some time today.

FatsyCline12

I think there was a tornado

Dismal_Juice5582

Agreed.

JohnnyBrillcream

Live over by Kaufman. Was waiting with my son for the bus and traffic through our small area was nuts. Everyone looking for a way to get in/out. Saw some guy walking and my son mentioned what a stupid time to go for a walk. Told him most likely he drove into high water. 15 minutes later he drives by in the passenger seat of a tow truck, yup, had to get his car towed. Hope you get a flight!

gr3710

When I was headed to work this morning, I looked in my rear view mirror north around 45 and Woodlands Parkway. Just pitch black and hardly any cars headed south, it was ominous

Steve-lrwin

> It's like nighttime in Cypress right now Surprisingly enough the city had some dudes all come and check our storm drains and clear out any debris early this AM. Never ever seen them do that before.

hoostan

Solar Eclipse Part 2 lol

yellowstickypad

It’s unsettling when it’s dark like that outside

LivingTheBoringLife

LKayRB

I wish I could upvote this more than once!!

db1189

Kingwood is completely underwater

Nikeb0i09

Fuck, I gotta float home then.

sashikku

Yeah, I get off work in one minute. Pasadena is a shit show right now, and I have to drive into Clear Lake. I…might just chill at work a little longer…

BrightZoe

Friendswood isn't too bad right now, but I think we're in a short break.

sashikku

Yeah I got a nice break to drive home and even grabbed lunch on the way home. Still pretty chill over by Ellington

tapiringaround

Gauge in my yard in KW is showing a little over 7 inches of rain, all since 8am. It's crazy.

OhDatsStanky

Is Northpark passable?  I think KW Dr is closed.  Just wondering how/if I will make it home

LiveJournal

I pulled off at the kroger on 59 and northpark to wait out the worst of the storm just after 8am and it was like a 6" deep lake.

db1189

It’s almost like nobody thought about flooding implications when they started northpark construction

GlumLanguage528

Grand parkway is the worst.

HTX2LBC

Wait until the release from lake Conroe hits you tonight.

RollForIntent-Trevor

I luckily didn't flood... Which, I guess if I had, wouldn't have really been my problem. I'm on a leaseback for another couple weeks and then I'm GONE.

texanfan20

Actually it's not, just the low places that always flood, mostly roads but then again the roads are built to flood.

db1189

Most of kingwood is a low place lol

jgreenz

shit. I have a vet apt at 12pm...well my dog does

Monarc73

Thanx for the clarification

crashingthisboard

Canine paws typed that post

fairchild2

Not anymore you don't!

oh_kyoko

i just went to the doctor and back in the river oaks area. i was unprepared and thus needed a towel to dry off when i arrived home (despite being outside a total of 30 seconds) also some of the streets are flooded already!

HTX-713

Sounds ruff

steelsun

You probably could still make it.

Nikeb0i09

KeekatLove

I love Space City Weather. They admitted they were wrong and then offered meaningful updates. They truly are one of a kind and the ABSOLUTE best! Thanks for reporting the weather without the usual hype! <3

SurpriseBurrito

A class act.

sonrisa_medusa

We are so lucky to have them.

KeekatLove

Absolutely. They are THE model for weather news and forecasting.

--Quartz--

It's absolutely one of the things I miss the most about living in Houston, it was a pleasure reading them and having the complete picture of what can happen. Let kids have the little rainy icons, give me the full briefing, haha.

Wild_flamingoo

That’s so damn true!!!

GlumLanguage528

Until it doesn’t and it’s bad. And then y’all are like “oh wow I didn’t think it would be that bad.” Better to be safe than sorry

yyzhouston

Folks still running red lights like it’s a normal day…. Stay home folks.

Googirlee

H-Town gonna H-Town

Logical-Independent9

H-town till I drown

404Nuudle

This is probably the only city on earth where rain comes down so hard you can't see the road in front of you, and people are still hitting 80+ lol

yyzhouston

But their blinkers are on, so it’s safe.

404Nuudle

...you...you've seen cars using blinkers!?!?! What's the road, so I can only ever take that one

yyzhouston

Hazards, sorry not sure what came over me…

GlumLanguage528

Also… turn on your headlights. How is this even a thing these days? Isn’t it automatic?

uselessartist

I saw a cow go by. Wait that was me driving and it was a chikfila billboard.

dashboardrage

you guys are hilarious lol

GFanFan

Huntsville has been fucked since Sunday night. Water on 45, roads are gone, houses flooded. They said yesterday was supposed to be a couple inches of rain and we got 4x that amount

MamaMayhem74

Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management said that Walker county and north Montgomery country got at least 16 inches of rain so far in this storm. The lake across the street from us is now underneath our neighbors house (thankfully he has pier and beam, so it's not in his house). The rest of our neighbors on that side of the street have lost half their backyards to the lake. Trees have fallen in the spillway and it can't keep up with all the water now. It's not as bad here compared to what we've been hearing about other nearby neighborhoods. Hopefully we won't get too much more rain. Stay safe out there.

soccershun

The sky is angry, like my dad if I got a bad grade. What is happening.

LooksAtClouds

Did you get a bad grade?

billywitt

Way to go soccershun. Messed it up for all of us.

soccershun

Bad grade in my family was anything not an A. But I went to Catholic school where my mom taught for 30 years, so the whole system was rigged. I dunno

UhOhPoopedIt

Storm was an inside job: confirmed

---x__x---

Drove from Houston to Spring this morning and it was almost pitch black at 8:30am.  More impressive than the eclipse.  Also had a huge branch drop right into the lane next to me.  Now a few hours later it’s nice and sunny lol.  I’ll never get used to Texas weather.

kneeltothesun

Just lost the rest of a tree, and had only just finished clearing the first half. This sucks. It missed the important stuff, so still, I'm thankful.

kitfoxxxx

My buddy works in Jersey Village. Says they’re just sitting there until the power comes back on.

arandomquestionasker

Also in JV. Just left work where the power was out, and got home, where the power is out.

theoracleofdreams

Came home from dropping my SO off at work, and power was out for a few miniutes in Steeplechase

PATHLETE70

1pm still out

kitfoxxxx

Called my buddy up. He says they got sent home because everyone lives far north and apparently, it rained a ton. Also, no power means no work.

fmbiamp

I had just called the elevator right before my building lost power, soooooo glad I didn’t get on, I literally can’t stop thinking about how lucky I am that I didn’t get stuck lol

Broomhugger

It is dark and insane pouring in Spring. Just went outside to make sure the drains were clear they just can't keep up. The street is partial flooded hoping this slows down before I leave for work at 2.

Git-R-Done-77

Month of May, every single year in Houston.

HonesztDeniial

Always, but as a kid I don’t remember it being this bad? Last few years it’s consistent major damage stuff happening. Shoot closer to Memorial Day we’re all screwed

Git-R-Done-77

Take a look at this... [history-timeline2022.pdf (hcfcd.org)](https://www.hcfcd.org/Portals/62/About/Flooding-History/history-timeline2022.pdf?ver=Igw659hBdBIb-i3tZKrmmA%3d%3d)

Git-R-Done-77

Kids don't remember much as they don't care much about serious adult stuff. I, for sure, admit that is true for myself.

Skarvha

No power and it’s really dark outside. One cat is going crazy but luckily my two special needs ones are fine (both deaf lol) stay safe out there people if you’re driving.

Chibano

Deaf Cat for Cutie

oneofthejoneses28

My cats have also been losing their fluffy minds. I don't know why my armpit is sanctuary but I could've slept through the thunder if not for them trying to hide

Bewaretheicespiders

Stormy in Cinco Ranch but nothing like the last storms yet.

runningpyro

Rip my flight today

BurnsinTX

I just got rerouted to Washington from London…hopefully I can make it back today

runningpyro

Good luck, my flight did end up being cancelled as well. Got a ticket for a 5am non direct flight in the am🤑🤮. Glad I got it but not excited about the time of day and with more storms expected tomorrow the connection also worries me.

MrSnarkyPants

I’m in the Midwest trying to get home. Our flight has been delayed since 8 this morning. We might leave at 2 and get to Houston around 5. Maybe.

runningpyro

Good luck! My flight did end up being cancelled as well. Got a ticket for a 5am non direct flight in the am🤑🤮. Glad I got it but not excited about the time of day and with more storms expected tomorrow the connection also worries me.

fritzco

Yeah, the rain shut us down at work. The power kept going out. Too funny, this morning I got a message from my water company informing me to start water rationing.

Superdawg414

Not good for people living near the lakes. Lake conroe is releasing at almost 72,000 cfs currently. Harvey was 76,000 if I remember correctly

GlumLanguage528

You are correct. *former journalist

pandazerg

Any updates from Katy residents on the current conditions in San Antonio?

UhOhPoopedIt

Big bend, checking in.

prettysnarky

I'm pretty sure the broken leg of our backyard canopy made it to Helotes with all the wind.

AgreeableGravy

Incredible

FPSXpert

Beautiful times on the river - posted from my inner tube

itsmeagainnnnnnnnn

It felt tornadoey this morning. It was so dark and windy, made me nervous for a bit.

Ornery_Gene7682

My parents said power is on in their neighborhood still raining but nothing too crazy they had some wind

steelsun

Of course today had to be one of the days I'm doing volunteer work near the museum District. It's supposed to end around 3, in time for me to drive home to the SW side in the thick of it. Yay.

Padowak

How are the streets around museum district?

LooksAtClouds

Thank you for your service!

IncompletePenetrance

It's wild in the med center right now! Sky went dark, now it's torrential downpour and winds. I regret my decision to not work from home where all the snacks are

zzxxccbbvn

I went out about 45 mins ago to run to CVS because the rain let up, and as soon as I got on the road it was complete flash flooding with zero visibility. Got the alert on my phone, saw the emergency vehicles and said "yeah, fuck this I'm going back home". Stay off the roads

Silent_Sleeping_Sera

My neighborhood entrance is flooded, the front street too. Champions area

Minionz

Still sitting without power since 10:48. We lose power constantly. Centerpoint just bandaids the problem. We lose power on sunny calm days with no wind. Last year we lost it over 30 times. The worst time was 12+ hours in the heat of summer. Crazy there's no way to hold them accountable.

tightfade

Where is Houston do you live?

Minionz

Towards JV

Ran-Dizzy123

Yes! I used to live on West Little York and we lost power all the dang time!!

HonesztDeniial

Anyone in the humble/atascocita area by lake Houston? How’s the flooding up there?

traumamel555

I got the alert just as I was in the middle of a walk with my dogs & dad. Then it started pouring. My pughuahua's face after getting drenched was priceless.

Flock-of-bagels2

I left my route early to head home and hunker down. It looked worse than it actually got in sW Houston. About to head back out at 1pm and finish my route . Just didn’t want to get stuck in floodwater but looks like that won’t happen

MovingClocks

Looking like round 2 is about to come back out here in central Houston

Flock-of-bagels2

I just got back out fingers crossed

itsmeagainnnnnnnnn

Be safe!

Flock-of-bagels2

It rained a good bit but not like up north. Glad it didn’t flood

GlumLanguage528

Because the weather wasn’t as bad in the SW. it was awful in the NW

Flock-of-bagels2

Yeah we got lucky. It got dark AF around noon so I just headed home. Got real Harvey vibes from it. Luckily it missed us

GlumLanguage528

It’s bad. I’ve been living in Houston for 18 years and have seen some weather shit. This was a whole other level.

DegenerateJC

River Plantation in Conroe is experiencing flooding. Some homes are expected to get 6 feet of water. Lake Conroe is releasing 90-95% of record release. Homes are expected to get within 2 feet of water levels experienced during Harvey. Where we are located is near to a creek that comes off of the San Jacinto, so it's very easy to get flooding there.

anda3rd

Personally loving all the neighborhood queen cats that timed their first litters of the year to this exact moment. Nothing but yowls and mews for multiple backyards around me. On the upside, my tomatoes, herbs, and peppers are loving this bounty of rain.

PartyPorpoise

I hope my peppers finally fruit!

anda3rd

I have flowering on the habaneros and the jalapeños but the banana pepper is being a stinker even though it got planted at the same time. Chile pequin is taking its sweet time as usual. Fingers crossed for yours to behave and be fruitful!

PartyPorpoise

The plants are a good size so I feel like it should happen soon! I planted them from a variety pack of seeds so maybe some varieties will be easier than others.

maaaxheadroom

Yeah it’s bad. I was taking a shit in the staff restroom and the lights went out. I couldn’t operate the toilet paper dispenser.

FPSXpert

Sounds like a crappy design 🤣

JohnnyBrillcream

User error

NavalCracker780

Is it over? Can I come out now?

Aleous

Near JV off 290 and Fairbanks. Looked like a tornado was rolling through. Power blipping for the last 20 minutes.

InThatOrderBih

We’re good in Katy though it was dark about an hour ago

LumpyDog1427

Don’t forget to evacuate!

Comrade_Do

I blame the groundhog.

LloydChrismukkah

My first power outage since moving to TX in June. Been out since 8am 😩

SilntNfrno

Just wait until you have one that lasts for a few weeks after a hurricane in August/September. Those are the real fun ones.

LloydChrismukkah

Weeks… 😩

GlumLanguage528

God yeah that was awfuk6

ClarkWayneBruceKent

I don’t understand how they can just let the dam out and potentially fuck all these people and their homes over. They say it so casually, as if it’s just normal, like “we let the damn out, your homes might be ruined again and there is not a DAMN THING you can do about it.” I both do and don’t understand it. They release the damn so some homes don’t flood….but then by releasing the damn, MANY homes flood in certain neighborhoods. Why do some houses get sentenced to flooding in order to prevent others from doing so? It’s a genuine question if someone could answer it for me. It just seems to me they should be idk making the dam taller/deeper, making more retention ponds, more ditches, etc. instead of just releasing it and flooding peoples homes and uprooting their lives. Rant over. I would love to hear anyone else’s thoughts on this.

poorleno111

All good ideas that require money. Gotta pass bills to get that funded, but that means taxpayers will have their taxes go up. Difficult to do as politicians then get blamed for taxes going up. However, it's a pay for that maintenance fee or lose your house thing.

LivingTheBoringLife

I just need it to be clear for me this evening about 4:30 heading home to Pearland from the heights

buzzer3932

I don’t think it’s looking good but maybe it’ll clear out

printaport

YAY!!!

munuyh

Traffic, weather and food that’s all this town talks about

UhOhPoopedIt

All it has to offer, breh. Anything else is 3+ hours away.

BrianChing25

Been without power since 10 am. Don't mind reading a book but mad that my groceries are gonna go bad if we don't regain power within a few hours

foodieforthebooty

My doggy is home all alone while I'm at work ): he is probably hiding under my bed right now. Street flooding should have receded by 5pm, right? I have to drive from Hunters Creek to Montrose.

GlumLanguage528

These people saying the weather people exaggerate are the same ones who drive like assholes thinking it doesn’t apply to them. The office I work at flooded and we were sent home to work - and even that drive was really bad. There was some kind of cement or debris under the water that tore up the undercarriage of my car.

iDisc

North Harris County is getting fucked. Kingwood has one to two feet of street flooding plus flooding along the east and west fork of San Jac due do to the upstream major rainfalls from the last couple of days.

zlolhtxlolz

Future tracks show it shifting south later today around 2-3pm but for right now it’s just a drizzle

namsur1234

Mo city not seeing much action yet, north and east sides been getting hammered! Hope everyone stays safe!

StarfishStabber

I couldn't believe how loud that thunder was!

GlumLanguage528

Yes and it rumbled on all afternoon even when the rain ended

GlumLanguage528

I have the scratches on my arm to prove how much it scared my cat lol. Jumped out of my lap with murder mittens out.

IsZen

We were stranded at Tomball Lonestar, it's crazy how much it floods in Tomball.

Chatfouz

Has it ever been this cloudy this long? I swear I think I’ve seen the moon only on 2 nights in the last 3 months.

GlumLanguage528

It thundered all day long even once the rain moved out!

DJboutit

I remember the summer of 2000 the same areas getting the most rain over the last 2 weeks got all the rain to. Kingwood Lake Houston Humble IAH got all the rain Humble even got a EF0 tornado they got 4" to 6". This same summer Southwest parts on H Town like Bellaire West U Meyerland Willow Meadows Willowbend Westbury got 1" max. I was living in Willow Meadows at the time it got really cloudy and windy like 15 times it temps down like 10 to 15 degrees hardly any rain other areas got all the rain. I did see like 2 or 3 times it looked a tornado was forming way up in the clouds lasted like 1 to 2 min they dispersed they never got close to the ground.

anyad3970

They should pour more concrete to help the flooding issues.
