Plenty of lizards here at my house. More native green ones since the big freeze in 2021 but I have noticed a resurgence of the brown ones. Also geckos.
Not sure why you aren’t seeing them. I live in Montrose and they’re currently all around where I am. They used to come inside my apartment, but my cat kept torturing them. She doesn’t kill. She plays and leaves them missing limbs.
I’m in North Montrose and I see them too. Even small ones. I’ll admit not as many as previous years, when multiple ones would dart across sidewalks in front of me, I’d have to make frequent pauses to let them cross.
I saw a decline in my neighborhood too until I started trying better. Two things factor in:
1: Spraying for bugs kills their food sources. Even if you don’t spray, like us, all the neighbors do, and the neighborhood, so their food sources are diminished.
2: Perfect landscaping. Anoles naturally lay their eggs in leaf litter under bushes. If you are raking out the leaves in your flower beds and under bushes and replacing it with manufactured mulch, they lose their egg laying areas.
Also, brown anoles are introduced species and have been pushing out green anoles around the gulf coast for decades. They’re from more tropical Caribbean climates, so I can imagine they’ve been pushing out green anoles until recently but they’re not as adept at surviving these super hot dry summers, so the last few years they’ve been having trouble.
Still surviving in my back yard. I do my best to eliminate the invasive brown anoles. They are faster than the green anoles and out compete them. https://galvbayinvasives.org/invasive/A-043 Eventually there will be no green anoles left and that's pretty depressing.
I have tons in Fort Bend County...
Even have one named "truck lizard" because he lives ON my truck... this crackhead doesn't care how hot, he'll be out there on my silver truck in direct sunlight. I've also caught him on the chrome just looking like he owns the place.
I have absolutely no explanation for "truck lizard" and how he even exists... but for the second year in a row if my truck is in the driveway he's laying on it in direct sunlight.
Bird and lizard populations are sensitive to mosquito spraying.
After Hurricane Harvey, the birds and lizards disappeared for two years after the massive mosquito spraying. They were abundant after the hurricane and before the spraying and then disappeared after the spraying.
You're welcome, neighbors.
I let loose about 1200 of them a couple of years before the freeze because I didn't want the brown anole to win.
Thought about getting more, but I've been lazy about it.
I live in Spring and have only seen one single baby gecko when it snuck into my house. No anoles and no adults of any kind. TONS of toads of all ages, though.
Didn’t I read that the non native gecko or those beige nocturnal lizards are causing a decline in the native anoles here in TX? I could be dreaming but I feel like I read that… like the non native ones came in on pallets
I have at least 1000 in my backyard. They all just had babies that are running around everywhere. They are all brown Cuban anoles. The green anoles have been pushed out by the slightly larger brown ones.
We've got a big ol Anole living on out patio. Everyday he climbs the screen to hunt for bugs. We've named him Arnie. About 5 inches long and as fat as a cigar, he's eating well.
I noticed this right after the lockdown and asked about it - I was told that the brown lizards are an invasive species and the green lizards didn’t die out, they were just driven up into the trees. Though I never see those lizards either
I miss them scurrying across the sidewalk while I walk by. Used to see them all the time on my way to the bus and I haven’t seen them for maybe 5 years now?
Also in Montrose, I’m seeing tons of them!
I’ve seen lots of babies and littles recently, maybe they’re able to stay better hidden since we had so much rain and there’s more foliage and bugs?
I think the invasive brown anole has largely out-competed the green anole, causing the latter's numbers to dwindle. However, after each time we've had a hard freeze, I find a bunch of dead brown anoles when I clear the dead plants. I think any winter where we get a hard freeze, lizard numbers are down the following year. That's just my non-scientific observation.
i have seen tons in my suburban garden
Plenty of lizards here
Same. I almost responded, "My backyard". I'm not sure what they're plotting out there, but given the numbers, it will be epic.
Plenty of lizards here at my house. More native green ones since the big freeze in 2021 but I have noticed a resurgence of the brown ones. Also geckos.
I have a ton in my backyard around my garden and pool. And little frogs, too. Should I send some your way?
Ah man I have a ton around the pool at my apartment, they all came here
I have tons of green anoles this year. Haven’t seen many geckos, which is fine, they aren’t native.
The geckos don't really compete with the native anoles, but the brown Cuban/Floridian ones do
I haven’t seen any brown ones in my yard yet, fingers crossed.

Green ones are up in the trees, brown on the ground. If a lot of pesticides are used you won’t see them.
brown anoles are invasive and they outcompete green anoles, at night you might hear the tokay geckos "barking"
Tokay geckos are assholes! Very pretty assholes.
I thought this was r/conspiracy and got excited for some non-political stuff.

I have a ton. They hide inside plants in the heat. Mine love to hide in the shade underneath my Caladium plants.
They are all going through the Marines Boot camp over here... So many pushups!
The flys have risen up and won the great lizard/fly war of 2024.
Ted Cruz is a current US Senator for Texas.
Still surviving in my back yard. I do my best to eliminate the invasive brown anoles. They are faster than the green anoles and out compete them. https://galvbayinvasives.org/invasive/A-043 Eventually there will be no green anoles left and that's pretty depressing.
The green ones have actually been adapting. But the brown ones are still a problem.
How do you eliminate the brown ones? I see a ratio of like 20:1 in my yard
Gotta catch them. I have a net. My yard has all green anoles now. Even tiny babies running around.
Most truck stops have lot lizards.
I expected to see a lot more lot lizard jokes tbh.
It is surprising how many people don't know what they are.
I have tons every day on my patio. I’m in montrose.
Stanford Street has had no lizards. And lots more flies /gnats!
I saw some yesterday in the rocks. And little toads keep hopping into my garage.
We had one of those anoles come ‘round one evenin’ and bite my sister-in-law’s vagina and I haven’t seen them sense.
We have tons of them as well.
I've noticed a change since the last couple of freezes. They are not native and many die off during long freeze events.
Aren’t the green anoles native? And the brown ones are the ones not native ?
Yes. There are also a bunch of smaller lizards and geckos around as well.
Sucks that you’re not seeing them. I see tons of little baby anoles running around in Oak Forest area.
One just ran under my couch from the back door.... I tried to catch him but he was tiny and fast
It's hot they're chilling
Still everywhere
In my small yard in the Heights we have many anoles and there have been a lot more green ones this year.
I have tons in Fort Bend County... Even have one named "truck lizard" because he lives ON my truck... this crackhead doesn't care how hot, he'll be out there on my silver truck in direct sunlight. They all came to my house
And my yard
🎶 where have all the lizards gone longgg time passing where have all the lizards gone long long time ago🎶
Bird and lizard populations are sensitive to mosquito spraying. After Hurricane Harvey, the birds and lizards disappeared for two years after the massive mosquito spraying. They were abundant after the hurricane and before the spraying and then disappeared after the spraying.
We have tons of both - native and non. My cats bring in at least 4 per week.
Answer here OP, this lady’s cat killed them all.
They don’t kill them, they bring them inside - I diligently return them to the yard.
somehow teach your cat to kill the brown anoles because they're invasive xD
Your cats are left unsupervised outside to kill wildlife?
your Kitties love their mama!
You're welcome, neighbors. I let loose about 1200 of them a couple of years before the freeze because I didn't want the brown anole to win. Thought about getting more, but I've been lazy about it.
What do you have against the brown anoles?
They're an invasive species. I'd figure you'd know that.
The brown ones are an invasive species?
For anybody reading this that cares, don't forget that the green ones can turn brown but the brown ones can't turn green.
Yeah the brown ones are faster and the green native ones can't compete with them for food so they starve them out.
Wow, saying the foriegn brown ones are taking all the work from the native ones… that’s just really inappropriate.
Why do I waste my time
long time passin'
They’re still all over midtown for me. They just stick to the shade
They’re all at my house
Cypress?
I have a lot in my yard
They’re all at my house.
They’re all at my house. My cat has been hunting the brown ones
My house
Lounging on the warm rocks in my front yard.
I live in Spring and have only seen one single baby gecko when it snuck into my house. No anoles and no adults of any kind. TONS of toads of all ages, though.
They are all pooping on my patio in spring
Plenty of anoles in my complex. They might be hiding because of the heat today?
my backyard
I’m seeing them all over
Maybe they moved. In Westchase, we hadn't had any for several years, but they are back in force this year.
Chilling in our courtyard.
Heights/Independence Heights. These guys are my garden guardians.
They’re all at our house… like literally
The economy has been so tough people have been trapping them and eating them here in the south
They're all at my house in the back yard.
Didn’t I read that the non native gecko or those beige nocturnal lizards are causing a decline in the native anoles here in TX? I could be dreaming but I feel like I read that… like the non native ones came in on pallets
The native green ones are making a comeback in my yard.

They're under my outside stairs...
They're at my house, come get some.
My cat keeps bringing them to my doorstep. Thanks asshole
I see the little brown ones scurrying off the sidewalk all the time
I'm also in montrose. I do see them, but there are not as many as previous years. I have no idea why.
They are all at my house
They moved indoors citing extreme heat.
Tons of skinks in my yard. Fuck you HOA. THEY LOVE MY OVEROGROWN YARD
They moved to the suburbs apparently
Yeah. Hipsters and yuppies ruin everything. Lizards have survival built in their DNA. They know when it is time to bounce.
I also live around this area, and there are so many lizards on my street and the ones I walk around
There are like 700 on my front patio lol
I live in Montrose and I see tons around here while walking my dogs.
Every day they are sidewalk diving in the medical center
Thought this was the trucker subreddit for a second
Well geckos and lizards are affected by all the usual things... temperature, humidity, construction, chemicals... they're around..doing their best
They're all in my backyard it's ridiculous.
We used to have a ton of them at our house but it hasn’t been the same since the freeze in ‘21
I noticed this right after the lockdown and asked about it - I was told that the brown lizards are an invasive species and the green lizards didn’t die out, they were just driven up into the trees. Though I never see those lizards either
I think fire ants have decimated a lot of creatures that used to fill out yards. I hardly ever see june bugs and the cicada numbers are very low.
I miss them scurrying across the sidewalk while I walk by. Used to see them all the time on my way to the bus and I haven’t seen them for maybe 5 years now?
There’s lots of the brown ones outside my window here in the galleria area. I love watching them scurry around and do their little pushups.
I’ve got tons of them in my yard, frogs too.
My house I guess.
My house
Cats eat the lizards pretty regularly. There could be a latge ferral cat population there.
I could probably go in my garage right now and find a massive house gecko in like ten minutes.
I just caught one yesterday and I see them everywhere
Cats
Did you spray for bugs? They’ll follow the food. I’ve noticed fewer lizards during years that I’m on top of my pest control regime.
Also in Montrose, I’m seeing tons of them! I’ve seen lots of babies and littles recently, maybe they’re able to stay better hidden since we had so much rain and there’s more foliage and bugs?

Come get your lizards off my backyard patio.
There's a bunch of them here in second ward at the plant house we cater to critters
Must all be at my house. Pearland
They're busy gearing up for the next legislative session.
My backyard
We have tons here right outside 610. I think they just had babies as there is a ton of tiny ones this month.
My cat killed them.
Can’t afford Montrose anymore
You just need to find independent management. My 2 bed Montrose apartment is $1200.
I meant the lizards
I have a dog that decimated the population
Katy.
