Apparently planes do have phalanges. They're flanges though. I work at an airline and wanted to make that joke on the loud speaker but I thought I would google it first lol.
Monicaās mom kinda seems like an emotional abusive mother while Ross could do no wrong. Plus they seemed to only encourage her to keep her interest in food going as a growing kid
David the scientist bc heās just so goofy in a sweet way and also Matthew Perry talks about him a lot in his book and how he was the funniest of his closest friends. I think he also auditioned for the part of Chandler.
Hank Azaria is awesome in everything and I hardly ever recognize him because he changes so much for every role. I didn't realize he was David for a long timeĀ
I watched the Birdcage the other day after not having seen it in forever. I didn't realize for a few minutes he was playing Agador. You'd never know that was "David the scientist."
I loved reading about his relationship with Hank and how Chandlerās signature ācould (it) BE any moreā came from his friendships before the show. Wonderful book.
The way Matthew Perry reacts to him adds so much. Heās a great character, but every line he has is made 10x funnier by Chandlerās utter disbelief at him as a human.
I LOVE Eddie! Right after finishing Friends I watched the movie Rebirth and it FREAKED ME OUT seeing Eddie in that movie because he plays a psychotic weirdo in that movie too but cranked up to 10!
Heās in Season 2 of Joey and although he plays a different character, he has a lot of the same mannerisms and a similar energy. I really liked his character in Joey.
Heckles. For no other reason than when he told Chandler's new roommate, "I'M Chandler's new roommate," takes a chance, the door is unlocked, looks the at the guy out of the corner of his eye and says "Hmm!" and walks in. Perfect.
I love Susan. When Ross is all word about Bens Barbie doll, Monica tells them he used to dress up like a woman, and Susan goes: āI have literally never been this happyā
My favorite is when ross comments that they have a lot of books about being a lesbian and she just deadpans back "well you have to take a course. Otherwise they don't let you do it". I was a young kid when I first saw that episode and her sarcasm went so far over my head that for ages I thought you actually had to register to be a lesbian š¤£
I am TEAM JANICE till i die. that woman was a gift and it always annoys me how they acted like she was the worst person ever. she was kind, upbeat and a fashion icon, she did not deserve their treatment of her
Susan is awful but HOT! But i gotta go with Gunther with hair as bright as the sun.. i really wish hed have gotten a few episodes or a happy ending.. like steward in big bang !
I may not understand the definition of background character. I've seen Janice and Jack Gellar mentioned, but they're guest stars. Hardly just in the background. Though Gunther has lines frequently, he's also seen in the background just doing his thing.
I loved Janice ā I cannot help but light up a smile when she enters the room and I adore that accent! I also love Monica and Rossās parents Jack and Judy and wish they guest starred in a lot more episodes!
Janice - she will go down in history as one of the best tv characters of all time. āChandler, you call me when this goes in the pooperā
the Gellers - they were so unhinged and had some amazing one liners. āYour father decided to sell ice on the internet.ā āIt was such a simple idea!ā āStupid, Jack. The word is stupidā
Rachelās sisters - the casting of Reese and Christina could not have possibly been better.
Jill: The only thing I canāt have is DAIRY!!!ā
Amy: āIām going to be a BABY STYLIST!ā āTHATS NOT A THING!!!!ā
A rather insignificant but memorable character on the show, in the āFriendsā , is Gunther the barista from Central Perk. While Gunther isnāt āFriends Fiveā, his affection for Rachel and comic lines delivered in deadpan, are essential elements the show needs. He has bleach blond hair and jokes, usually, jokes in a funny drawl that doesnāt deviate for the entire episode, beginning to end. This is why such non-speaking characters are so loved ā especially the reserved Gunther who only occasionally mutters something ā this character evokes the audienceās emotions and remains memorable even when he appears in only one or two episodes of the series.
I can't really think of that many background characters, but I did like that chef Monica talked to in the one with the thumb, if she does count as a background character
Itās always difficult to pick one character but if I really had to, I would say Monica. Dedicated , focused , driven, and very particular about everything. I think the fact that sheās not a pushover makes her very attractive !! I think a lot of people i know whoāve watched friends always pick Rachel for the fashion or Phoebe for being so weirdly adorbs but for me MG has always been the constant. She may be tough and scary sometimes but she immensely cares for her people, and I think she has had one of the best character developments in the show!!
![gif](giphy|kgmT1MgYzKqLOK388g|downsized) No explanation needed.
Oh.
My.
God!
How very dare you call the glorious Janice 'background' š
Ugly baby judges me!
The first one i thought of š š š
the guy who panicked because the plane doesn't even have a phalange. He is very safety conscious ā ![gif](giphy|yCQi4km1wOe5wcEalq)
Who, after getting off the plane, became a college Dean
he is a level 5 susceptible itās no wonder he fell for this
That's moon man talk!
And before that was a landlord in the 70s
I understand that reference!
Thank you for understandean
Nice! His hands are so clean and he is stapleeeng
Apparently planes do have phalanges. They're flanges though. I work at an airline and wanted to make that joke on the loud speaker but I thought I would google it first lol.
Oh man, what an opportunity! But good on you for not succumbing to your āinner Chandlerā in that situation.
planes have flanges, people have phalanges
Yup I said that
No, you said planes do have phalanges, but they do not, they have flanges. Two different words pronounced differently.
And then I said they are flanges. Look at my second sentence. Read the whole thing.
IIRC, someone made a list of Phoebeās phalanges on this sub one time. Edit: found it! https://www.reddit.com/r/howyoudoin/s/vn0XD5FrFx

Your mother just added him to her 'list'
So so funny like why is he washing dishes and why all dressed up like a housewife so many directorial choices that aren't even made clear.
Omg I can almost recite this show and I never noticed he was washing dishes. Hahaha, wtf?!
Some artsy coffee houses did that dish thing out in the open around the time the show was on. No idea why. It was almost a vibe.
He was doing tne dishes at her party like in the above gif. I just assume he was trying to get in good with Rachel
Ohhh! I thought you meant at Central Perk. Hahaha. Getting in good with Rachel plus muscle memory?
Khaisa hai bhai
Ayyye! Hello
Jack Geller. Always cracks me up. And is generally sweet to Monica despite his wife's attitude.
His little harMonica
Your little harmomnica is HAMMERED
"A woman in my office is a lesbian. Iām just saying..."
Too bad he spent her wedding money
Monicaās mom kinda seems like an emotional abusive mother while Ross could do no wrong. Plus they seemed to only encourage her to keep her interest in food going as a growing kid
Right she both chastised her for being fat but also encouraged her to eat (at least in the Thanksgiving episode where she offers her the 2 pies)
I know what you're thinking Judy...The resemblance is uncanny
David the scientist bc heās just so goofy in a sweet way and also Matthew Perry talks about him a lot in his book and how he was the funniest of his closest friends. I think he also auditioned for the part of Chandler.
Hank Azaria is awesome in everything and I hardly ever recognize him because he changes so much for every role. I didn't realize he was David for a long timeĀ
Hank Azaria is so underrated. He is fantastically gifted.
His best role is Agador Spartacus in The Birdcage
With the Pirin tablets!
Yes! And the shoes that make him fall down. And the goddamn sweet and sour peasant soup š
That movie kills me, it's so brilliant
The way he transforms is just insane. I rarely see someoneās whole persona and way they carry themselves change to much in a role.
I watched the Birdcage the other day after not having seen it in forever. I didn't realize for a few minutes he was playing Agador. You'd never know that was "David the scientist."
Welp. Now Iām gonna have to watch everything heās in š
I loved reading about his relationship with Hank and how Chandlerās signature ācould (it) BE any moreā came from his friendships before the show. Wonderful book.
He auditioned for the role of Joey
![gif](giphy|L0TcmcXb34m4zNuGyt|downsized) Gunther. He is absolutely hilarious.

I named my dog after him. Lol
Richard because Tom Selleck is just wow

Eddie. I would have loved to see more of him. I just found him hilarious.
By far my favorite side character in the show. Those few episodes with him moving in with Chandler are my favorites.
Me too! They were my favourite episodes as a kid and they still held up on a recent rewatch.
Ever notice how he looks so much like the father of Joey's nephew?
Heās in Season 2 of Joey and although he plays a different character, he has a lot of the same mannerisms and a similar energy. I really liked his character in Joey.
![gif](giphy|cNxbvny15eOe6kXIIq|downsized) Mr Heckles.. definitely me heckles
I could play the oboe
Then I'm going to have to ask that YOU keep it down
You owe me a cat
All of the parents of the main cast were pretty hilarious.
Kathleen Turner as Chandler's dad was golden

So I hear that you HATE me!
She makes things awkward for chandler. And we love awkward chandler
Gunther ![gif](giphy|QxeRb7cRrUCgtyssGY)
Heckles. For no other reason than when he told Chandler's new roommate, "I'M Chandler's new roommate," takes a chance, the door is unlocked, looks the at the guy out of the corner of his eye and says "Hmm!" and walks in. Perfect.

I might be in minority but I like Susan. Her constant bickering with Ross is hilarious.
Her sense of humor was awesome
Yes! I love her sarcastic comments
I love Susan. When Ross is all word about Bens Barbie doll, Monica tells them he used to dress up like a woman, and Susan goes: āI have literally never been this happyā

TIL a lot of people donāt know what a background character is.
Side note I love and need Phoebe's dress in this picture
Susan is awful but HOT! But i gotta go with Gunther with hair as bright as the sun.. i really wish hed have gotten a few episodes or a happy ending.. like steward in big bang !
Janis. Isnāt that everyoneās?
Mike! I wish he was there as the 7th friend for WAY more than just 1 & 1/2 seasons
