Yup, I notice this as well. I will often swap parties and see my Hav has vanished. Maybe the bug goes to DM as well, but not sure. I am assuming somethings up with the registering of their talent which would kick the champ out.
It seems to happen with formations that don't have a slot 1 champion on the field in their saved formation, or at least it happens to those more often. I think it might have something to do with how the client calculates resets and the amount of gold required to unlock a champion, vs how quickly they can be killed.
Could be right. What seems to work best for me is to make sure the Seat 1 is in the front most column, and you have a familiar on an HP sharing Tank leveling in a column somewhere behind.
(consider enemies bunching up on the seat 1, then gold slowly going to other champs)
What the game needs to do is aggressively reload the saved formation (on any loss), and aggressively push to the newest area. Repeatedly.
At least then, most players wont notice the failures so much.
If OP is on console, this is a pretty common bug that's been ignored by the devs ever since Reya came out (it's actually a bug with modron settings not getting saved).
This has been happening to my husband for two days. He has already filed a bug report, but it's under review. It made patron chores even more annoying for him this week.
Strangely, I haven't seen this bug in my game yet.
For my husband it happens even when automation is disabled (although he tested it with the core assigned, just without automation set up). The champions disappear immediately when he switches parties.
This currently seems to be an issue with how offline/background progress is calculated. I have one modron party who this keeps happening to, so I filed a ticket about two weeks back. According to Shawn the team is currently working on completely rewriting how offline progress works, and should fix this issue along with barely no progress being calculated when coming back.
I've been having this with formations where I have to use Mehen's third column talent so Havilar can join. When I come back, she'll have vanished.
