CPUnique

New speed champ. Nice.

KabReg

The problem is she is reportedly Black Viper v2.0.

CPUnique

Any champion with even a shred of utility is better than BV.

KabReg

According to rumors, they nerfed baseline damage output for Nahara to the same level, and even with billions areas cleared, she won't be able to compensate for that :(.

CPUnique

I refer to utility, not DPS. I don't plan on farming stacks, but having a champion to speed up the first leg of a deep run is a-okay to me.

KabReg

Well, BV is perfectly fine for farming gems at Mad Wizard in combination with Hew Maan and Widdle.

CPUnique

Not compared to click damage. In my experience, BV would spontaneously combust if she got even remotely close to my z900 click wall despite farming up to her red gem cap.

KabReg

If your click wall is at z900, you should probably farm at Tall Tales, not at Mad Wizard.

CPUnique

I do farm on Tall Tales.

KabReg

In this case, you probably don't need her anymore except for some freak new variants.

Gagaking1

where is tall tales and why would it be better than mad wizard for farming?

KabReg

In Witchlight campaign. It has significantly faster area transitions, and therefore preferable for gem farming. However, it has *very* nasty bosses, therefore having 4-skipping (or 9-skipping) Briv is a must for proper gem farming there.

[deleted]

She won't speed up any portion of a run, unless you have absolutely no firebreath potions then she may speed up a portion of the run where she can kill easily, but other champions and click damage can't. But her numbers are super bad, like worst than Delina, so depending who else is in the formation she may never even land any killing blows and get her speed ability active. And, who doesn't have any firebreath potions?

hulsmanm

Black Viper has an item that applies multiple times, Nahara doesn't. If you put 10k ilvls into every DPS in the game, Black Viper is actually 3rd best. She scales as well as Krond, she's just always e10 self DPS behind him and her supports are worse. Naharra has the same numbers and scaling as Rosie, super bad.

KabReg

And how many of those playing the game actually invested 10k ilvls into Black Viper? My point was not the scaling, I meant her initial state.

hulsmanm

I know of 3

KabReg

That's the point. It's absolutely irrelevant for the great majority of players. Most of them have not even invested 10k into Briv.

KaiBarnard

I think the point is BV can be viable but not the best if invested in, you're right not many people will punt all in on her to get '3rd best' when 1st and 2nd exist.....this one can't even compete at that level, one of the things they are supposed to do, they just plain won't

KabReg

That's true.

[deleted]

Looks like her one and only use is to bring in Black Dice Society warm bodies into Strahd variants. Other than that onto the bench she goes.

Tokimori

We'll see. Most speed comps (in regards to gems) rely on Click damage so she won't be attacking too much. She also has to be above 15 stacks before it starts applying her speed buff. This will also likely get "drained" if there's hit based enemies that have to be dealt with in the run at any time. So she might be nice for "real runs" but for gem stuff maybe not so much.

[deleted]

She will still attempt to attack when click damage is working, but that makes it worst, since clicks will kill before her attack animation finishes, so not only will she not gain a stack, but she will lose one as her attack won't get the kill but will happen. As for 'real runs' she still won't be effective because fire breath potions are a thing and click killing 25 monsters is way faster than waiting for a DPS to kill 13 one at a time, especially one with a very long attack animation like Nahara. Her speed mechanic is definitely one of those things that looks good on paper if you don't fully understand how the game is played, but if you have been playing a couple months, and even less in some cases, it just is a throw away ability.

red-zepplin

It seems (unintentionally) geared towards scripters. Let her gain stacks on zone 1 while Shandie charges dash then buy click damage and away you go. Bizarre stuff.

SpendPure7752

I know how you’re thinking, but she doesn’t really work even then. If you’re scripted gem farming you don’t always dash wait, it’s conditional. Even with the stacking on Shandie, because fast gem farms use speed pots, Dash wait is only max of about 15 seconds, that’s not enough time to stack her to an appreciable amount and those stacks will decay very quickly. Also unless she adds a really good mechanic to a gem farm, her very presence slows the farm down due to graphics. She is just an all round “nope”

[deleted]

Nahara just attacks too slow, which is true of basically every champion but more so for one's with eldritch blast type attack animations, so you have to keep other champions off the field which creates problems of monsters hitting the formation and resetting dash.

Tokimori

That's the funny thing we're looking at it "on paper" right now and we're picking it apart.

KaiBarnard

We are, as we play the game, not sure the people designing these do at least not to any depth - so on paper on the surface in a vacume they can look fine - good to great even, in the real world, useless

Bikkin_hun

Goodbye Black Viper, Hello Nahara!

KC_Hammer101

Being able to bring in more people to restrictive strahd variants will be very helpful.

PushyStick

And that's probably all about benefits of this character, sadly.

KC_Hammer101

Seems like a champion I will use a lot probably. I rarely am using meta champions anyways.

Twitter knew about this nine hours ago, guess we can hope for an official topic on Monday. No idea what "complete an area for the first time" means, area 50 of each adventure? Literal 1-2-3 areas? Patrons? Variants? Is the count per-adventure or total? Bets on if Briv works? Looks like quite a chore, hope there's payoff unlike Viper or Dhani. Her speed mechanic seems as useless as Xander's until the run's nearly over, but she doesn't waste an item on it. e: She loses damage every time she hits segment/armor, and even though stacks are additive, running out drops the buff, which maybe pushes earlier-area farming before setpiece bosses? Worst case, getting her and her buddies in Strahd variants could be useful, presumably that'll end up being six characters. Also she looks neat and adds to the flaming wing quota. Hope her attack doesn't kill the game.

H0ly_Cowboy

Going by the wording of her ability of persisting through resets. Stick her on automated formation and watch her damage bonus slowly climb. We shall see.

KaiBarnard

I think the issue is the 'slowly' is far to slow, I think people were looking at E10 areas and still only OK so that's what a billion levels - even speed running and skipping like crazy and doing 2k levels an hour....so 57 years of farming I'd want to see it in front of me 1st but I have a feeling this will be Viper 2.0 farming in the hopes they 'fix' it one day

H0ly_Cowboy

The ability is improvable by equipment. Also I am guessing 'slowly' cause of other ever-power (something I made up) heros like Torogar or Zorbu 'should' be able to up themselves at similar rate.

KaiBarnard

I assume, and that is a key word - assume - that this was factored in by the number crunchers, as I said I want to see it myself 1st, but this level of gloom is a bad sign - we will see but I'm afraid I'm going to be right on this

[deleted]

Complete an area for the first time is per run and includes every area completed. So, if you run a free play you have run in the past to zone 200, then you will get 200 stacks. If you do a run in an adventure you have never done before to zone 200, then you will get 200 stacks. As long as they are unique areas for that run, they will increment the stack count.

a8bmiles

Hey Xander is still useful on Jimothy runs when you need Briv benched to avoid landing on a boss.

hulsmanm

No he isn't, him missing the enemy that turns into a chicken doesn't apply his speed ability to the chicken. He'd have to happen to be the one that kills the chicken to do anything.

a8bmiles

He can still miss the chicken, and other enemies can be marked and die from Baeloth's Confetti. 60 Distraction _Xander causes some enemies he kills (or misses) to count for extra quest progress._ When Xander attacks and misses an enemy, the enemy is marked and will trigger Lucky Shot no matter who lands the killing blow

Pegaz_Writing

Didn't the damage bonus persit through resets in the Who Am I buff? I've noticed the total damage drop after resetting, is that a bug?
