Some of these are already bordering on hard to see, depending on screen settings. I wouldn't go any darker than this or you'll end up unplayable for some people.
By the way, the game itself is a metroidvania inspired by Dark Souls and Hollow Knight.
I've been doing it alone, after work, for almost 3 years. If you like what you see, here's the Steam page: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/2433860/The\_Shamans\_Ark/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2433860/The_Shamans_Ark/)
Music and sound design will carry you 50% of the way, the world looks pretty good, and you wouldn't want to darken the world to the player's detriment.
I think sound carry even more than 50%. Player stops paying attention to the picture quite quickly, but the sound continues to create an atmosphere constantly
I think contrast is key. Take hollow knight for example, it had a dark and semi gritty style using lots of black, but that was directly contrasted with whites and light greys. I’m no artist but that’s my two cents.
I think the colour palette looks great and doesn't need to be darker (just my opinion of course!) I really love the art style, especially the trees and vegetation!
Love the look! One thing I might suggest, provided it doesn't interfere with the gameplay, is bring the camera in closer. Both so that we can see the playable character better, but also to create a sense of claustrophobia that I think will enhance the vibes you are going for.

looks super dope. I don't think the world building needs to be darker, the color variety here is great my dude.
Thanks! Hearing this is very important for my motivation!
Of course no worries, hope everything goes really well !

Any darker and i’m going to need to use a flashlight irl to see the pixels
thanks, good point

Gives me lots of Shadow of Colossus vibes too, nice work
By the way, yes. Love the vibes of this game. I probably unconsciously transferred some atmosphere into myne.

Yes, the first screenshot seems the least dark and melancholy for some reason
Definitely, but just because the world is dark doesn’t mean you can’t push the saturation in certain areas.
Def seems darker. Possibly something that makes the foreground darker. Like a fog or what not to give a sense of helplessness
maybe make it darker but add light follow the player? lantern or something
Its perfect honestly I like the first one the most
Awww thank you!
It does look dark, but not melancholy. More like dark and creepy, or dark and eerie.
It already looks awesome. Very nice art style!
The cemetery one, def.
Don't make it any darker.
I think i won't
It’s perfect. Don’t change a thing
Thank you!
Looks great. Doesn’t need to be darker. Dark becomes muddy and unclear pretty fast. This is good.
Yep i agree, thanks!

Good point. A variety of locations is the key to an interesting exploration of the world!
