What do you have now? That's a solid price

lego98omg

My gpu is a 4070ti

lego98omg

And my CPU is a i5-12400f

peekenn

If you game at 4K the 12400f is fine

THE_DRAGONSPEED

it is not

peekenn

Have you ever seen 4K gaming benchmarks?

THE_DRAGONSPEED

Have u ever you should.onow the i5 12400f is like the 5600 of intel and the gpu with the cpu theme is bottle neck and u also need a good cpu and for 500 aud ITS A GREAT DEAL

peekenn

Ok...q

ipseReddit

Nah, save some money by getting a 13600K or 13600KF instead (if this is for gaming)

BaaaNaaNaa

If new that's a good price and you get the fancy box! It would be a step up but is it worth it? Mmm maybe.

lego98omg

>If new that's a good price and you get the fancy box! > >It would be a step up but is it worth it? Mmm maybe it says "in great condition and never been overclocked." and i get the fancy box

BaaaNaaNaa

Mmm second hand I'd be cautious. You can get a NEW one for about $650 - no chance of buying a dud. Although I went 13700k at about the same price and slightly better but no fancy box.

lego98omg

My motherboard is a tuf gaming b660plus WiFi D4 on the box that says compatible with 12 gen CPUs but when I go on the website it says 13th and 12th is it just old boxing or do 13 gen CPUs work with 12 gen motherboard as well ?

DIEGHOST_8

Old box, 12th, 13th and 14th gen have the same socket

edvards48

it should be compatible with 13th gen as someone else said, you might need a motherboard bios update to run 13th gen though. throw the parts into pcpartpicker if u want to check for any compatibility issues

BaaaNaaNaa

Yes it is likely you'll need to update your bios, easy to do. Get new one from Asus website, there may even be a tool you can use. This will let your mother know what 13 series CPUs are. If you are in no hurry. The 14 series will drop in about November. These will be slightly faster again (apparently) but likely cost a little more. Same socket, again neef bios update.

The_HenryUK

You can get a new 13600K for 479AUD or a 13700K for 639AUD. Just update your BIOS and get one of those, both are equal or better for gaming with less power consumption.

VaultBoy636

Gaming power draw shouldn't be all that different. I'd personally go with the 12900K in this case. OP said he has a B660 so OC-ing is out of the equation anyways. And the 2 extra P-cores should be useful considering cyberpunk at max crowd density can max all 8 P-cores on my 12900KS around 70FPS. Games are centrally getting CPU heavier slowly. And if it isn't for gaming, then the extra cores should be helpful for core heavy tasks

peekenn

It runs hot - you'll need a good cooler - of you game at 4K, get somethimg cheaper

debello64

Why not update your bios and go with the 13700K, it performs as good as if not better then the 12900K and is cheaper.

Offcoloring

That's a good price yes. Is your motherboard good enough for it though? Maybe a 13600kf would be more adequate for $450aud depending on your current mobo
