I was just at Hoover Dam and I held my phone out over the edge to get a picture. I felt safe doing so because I was gripping the popsocket between my fingers. Not 20 minutes later, I’m back in my car and the popsocket falls off. It had never happened before. I just sat in silence thinking, holy shit, I’m one lucky sob.
As an epileptic, id absolutely have an involuntary break dance and end up a bloody skidmark at the bottom.
Which sucks, because I absolutely love architecture, massive structures, amazing views etc.
But yeah, just watching this video is enough to convince me id be shit out of luck lol.
I've been there, it's a great place. On another note, in South Asia, most apartment building rooftops are open to residents. We do laundry drying, some decorate their rooftops with gardens, some make it a bbq place. In the evening people including kids go there to take a walk or just to hang around. Never in my life have I ever seen or heard of any accidents. We would even go play at the rooftop every time it was raining. Back then rain in our country was really not that thundery. Good old days.
> I'm sure people drop phones on those on the ground floor breaking their heads.
You ever hear of that thing they build into a lot of high rise apartments called a balcony? Yeah I've heard it's actually not a massive safety hazard generally.
The tofu allegations are everywhere lol, they pretty much only exist thanks to piss-low constantly bankrupt poor regional governments that use random construction projects to boost GDP so they get to look good to their superiors in the CCP. (The bankrupt part is only partially true btw)
"Also Chinese construction is usually shitty and this doesn't seem like it will last too long."
Is that so? This building is from 1999. When is it going to collapse according to you?
I’ve stayed there. Nice place. Not only is the interior of the place pretty amazing, the views from the rooms are fantastic. The rooms are all floor to ceiling glass exteriors, so you get a panoramic view of Shanghai.
Johannesburg had an apartment building that was cylindrical like that called [Ponte City](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjngNrooYWHAxW8W0EAHdyfBf8QmhN6BAhGEAc&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FPonte_City&usg=AOvVaw2GX5qWZyRiOXo2k5-wI8OK&opi=89978449). The residents started filling the inner circle with trash until it was several stories high, and when they finally started cleaning it up they found several dead bodies dumped there.
I stayed there about a decade ago on a business trip. The building was more than a bit scary. The building has an exoskeleton of shinny steel. The luxury level of the room was meant to be high but there were a lot of flaws from leaking bathroom faucets to cracked tile. It certainly made me feel the building was more about its looks than its quality of construction.
I got scared just by watching this 😅
Gosh it makes my head spinning 🫠
Me too!! 😭
sweatypalms
Yes me too. I was also very nervous for this guys phone to drop hundreds of feet
I’m more anxious about what might happen to the people bellow who will receive it on the head.
Same. My stomach hurts 😭
Same. I don’t really have a fear of heights, but I did not like this!
wonder what the breakfast buffet view looks like ![gif](giphy|K4x1ZL36xWCf6|downsized)
Same here. It looks terrifying. lol
ME TOO. I was looking the net the whole time.
I physically recoiled
Like that scene with the galactic senate in Star Wars Some viceroys bout to pop out
Lmao I was trying to remember Padmes “This is how democracy dies, with thunderous applause”
I’m pretty sure it was liberty and that’s senator Amidala for you.
>democracy Mandela effect
I love every single one of you, SO. MUCH.
instant vertigo for me!
The railings.
Why are they never high enough and why am I dizzy??? wtf
This would be fine with a 5ft rail, but no, they're always 2 or 3ft. No way that will hold back a full grown adult if they lose their balance.
Same
I don't dare to put my phone out like this.
Inner voice :"would be a shame if your phone slipped through your fingers right now!"
My fucked up inner voice goes even further than that like "and then what if your phone somehow PULLED YOU DOWN WITH IT"
omg how are u describing my fear to me ahhhh
[well... ](https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/man-falls-to-death-trying-to-retrieve-dropped-phone/news-story/00484c15fcec827a9a13251a3227c736?amp=)
I hate you for posting this.

my palms are sweating just thinking about it.

I was thinking that anyone doing that should be banned from the place, if it falls it could really hurt someone
\*be lethal
This is why I still have a strap
My nuts became ovaries
My ovaries went nuts.
I'm high asf rn and I've been laughing my ass off at your comment 😂
My toes became knuckles
Damn that’s ShangHIGH
Fuck that's high! Gave me instant vertigo and I moved my head back a little!
Now i want to know how many people have commited suicide there? Because i think that would be "attractive" spot for them.
"today was a bad day at work. Today yet another guest came down without using the elevator"
Peach Trees
![gif](giphy|10MlVunnRFnQ2Y)
Put me on the ground floor please and thank you.
Not all of the [Shanghai Tower](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Tower) is a hotel, the lowest you can stay in the hotel is the 86th floor.
This is the Grand Hyatt in the Jin Mao tower.
Someone must have been killed already from a random kid tossing stuff from that height.
I wonder if you could bungie jump down to reception to ask for a late check out or extra pillow or something

Shanghai has a pretty good record of non tofu buildings. Perhaps take a step out of the basement will do you some good.
Reddit tries not to be negative for once challenge (impossible).
China, therefore bad /s.

How do they stop people from jumping?
Today's weather is cloudy with a small chance of really big hail
I'd be scared to have a falling phone hit me on the ground floor.
How many people.have killed themselves here?
None yet.
The perfect place to try out my new elytra
immediate jump
This is giving me Silo vibes (can't wait for season 2)
I already get anxious looking down from the 2nd floor of the mall. This is a huge fuck no for me.

It's like the hive in the matrix.
I'm good, thanks.
Reminded me of a Hyatt hotel in New Orleans!
Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai, China.
Thank you for the drop in my stomach.
Mall tie nets to save falling people in India even for 4 floor buildings. But here they don't want to save idiots 💀
The whole time I would be thinking *Don't drop it don't drop it don't drop it don't drop it*
Instant anxiety
Would be soo much cooler if it's a [Earthscraper](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthscraper)
Looks just like the holiday inn atrium in Singapore
This place is the grand hyatt in shanghai. The best part is that „groundfloor“ lobby you see below is actually the 54th floor of the building
Love getting a new view that's crazy ty
My asshole just clenched
Didn't Palpatine fall down there?
Its Shanghai Jinmao Tower. You can go up to 88th floor, the observation deck, and look down at lil bro

I’ve stayed there. Nice place. Not only is the interior of the place pretty amazing, the views from the rooms are fantastic. The rooms are all floor to ceiling glass exteriors, so you get a panoramic view of Shanghai.
My anxiety sky rocketed when I saw the guy holding his phone trying to take a pic
You finally get up there and a random drunk stranger starts a fight trying to push you over the rails…fuck that.
Imagine jumping off from here
Dang, my baĺls shrunk and my little brother become ninja turtle....hahaha Scary
I want a slide that spirals down to the lobby
Grand Hyatt!
They probably have well over a hundred maids.
Two words Zombie Apocalypse
Oh Hell No
Seems like a waste of space and resources no? It's just a view of floors and walkways, looks cool for a bit but is impractical.
Imagine dropping your phone
Looks like a great place to commit slip n slide
People minds be like: make the phone fall.
I wouldn't trust myself enough that I don't throw my phone down.
Does it echo if you drop a fart from up there?
Looks like a place people who commit suicide would find attractive
The Reverie, Penacony
I’ve been here. On New Year’s Eve they do a balloon drop. It’s pretty wild
![gif](giphy|CbYJLnm37JMre)
Drop ya phone and you could kill somebody 😞

I'm already weak in the knees just looking at it, and I'm worried about dropping my cell phone
As a person with intrusive thoughts, I’d have to use every fiber of my body to not throw my phone in there
