It's actually not too bad, at least in November. Those trains do have windows, but it's usually closed because of the noise or cold. I left a small window open, no one complained because I was a foreigner. It's acceptably clean, not too smelly. They are actually doing pretty well compare with other central Asian nations. The day-time high speed trains are much better compare with the sleepers.
You usually open windows on these trains when it's hot. Yes they do open, iirc there's a handle on top and you slide the window down. But there also exists, at least in Russia, the nicer more modern version of these trains. They do have AC and also plane-like vacuum toilets (as opposed to your shit falling onto the tracks).

This just isn’t true. Go to parts of Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Saunas are just a normal part of the culture. Something you do with family, friends. Not sexual at all. Even I know this and I’m an ignorant yankee.
