Not Another Circus Circus Enterprise

Tongue8cheek

You bet.

Phillip_Graves

So is it three circuses now, or do we have to repeat the word three times?

oldballls

Welcome to Circus Circus Circus Circus Circus.

Fiveohdbblup

Luxor was nice....for about a year and, well, Circus Circus Enterprises. It's funny, it's been years but theres a path that connects the Mandalay Bay and the Luxor and when you walk from the Luxor to Mandalay, there is a literal line that you cross where the carpet and the walls were Luxor shit and Mandalay nice. If you were coming from Mandalay Bay, it was a warning.

StoneGoldX

Never the same once they got rid of the rides.

Fiveohdbblup

Oh yeah, I dug that one where your in a shaft elevator and it goes freefall but your on a hydraulic system, awesome!

meowmgmt

Do you remember what that ride was called? I’ve been thinking about it all week

StoneGoldX

https://www.reddit.com/r/vegas/comments/10kt4er/what_was_that_ride_at_luxor_called/

hiyaset

Stratosphere?

StoneGoldX

Honestly, I barely remember them. But I say the same about damn near every casino. Obviously the Hilton/Westgate/whatever the most. I would kill to teleport to the Enterprise bridge one more time. There's a similar gag on the Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Epcot, but it's not the same.

Fiveohdbblup

The Star Trek themed Hilton was awesome but it quickly went south and the quality was garbage before it shut down and that place turned into a dump. Shame, long history

MiddleSir7104

Was there earlier this year, can confirm lol. But luxor has the late night food court, so you end up there drunk at some point anyways lol

DeadInternetTheorist

I haven't been there in over a decade but NY, NY used to have a place where you could get a slice of pizza super late, and MGM Grand had a 24 hour cafe that ruled.

KingKaos420-

I’ve never stayed at the Luxor, but I’ve gone to shows there, and it’s always a great experience.

PumaHunter

The Tower hotel rooms are a good bang for your buck.

djamp42

I stayed once for a bachelor party, I was drunk most of the time so I didn't really mind anything.

MotorBicycle

I was there last year and I loved the Luxor.

Fiveohdbblup

If you enjoyed it, that's cool....it's just a different animal from when it was

BukkitCrab

What did it look like while it was "hidden"? Was there a tarp over it or something for the past 30 years?

Intelligent-Drama-83

Apparently it was the “base layer” and they were just putting other ones over it for 30 years. Workers took all the old layers off, and that’s what was left.

ThorSon-525

Man this really should have been in the main post. You're doing God's work!

angrydeuce

When we were demoing a room in my brothers house a few years back, an old farmhouse that was built sometime around 1910, the insides of the walls and the vents and stuff was like a time capsule of trash. Old beer bottles, newspapers that were 5+ decades old used as insulation, toys some kid had lost into the vent at some point over the prior century. The cross section of 100 years of a couple of layers of wallpaper then paint then more wallpaper then more paint, it was like a good quarter inch thick on top of the plaster and lathe. I guess removing wallpaper has *always* sucked fat ass lol

BukkitCrab

Ah, thanks for the info!

Flossthief

I know this spot actually I looked at this billboard for years-- I guess this was under it the whole time

MidnightAction

And with David Copperfield playing at the MGM Grand, it could still be 1993

Nervous-Cheek-583

Spot on.

zerousel

that kitschy pyramid is still my all time favorite and I will die on that hill. Far enough away from everything that it’s quiet and the daily walking is kind of nice. The pool is never too crowded and the prices are consistently cheaper than what’s around it. What I absolutely won’t touch with a 10-foot pole? Excalibur, obviously

TikonovGuard

Fuck that place. Have you ever had drunken vertigo at the Luxor, not recommended

zerousel

Opposite. The drunker I am, the less scared I am of the heights and the rickety elevators 😂

Otherwise-Mango2732

Wait? Are you THE nick papagiorgio? From Huma Arizona? This is actually a really cool picture because of the way it combines the old school Luxor reference with the wheel in the background. Wouldn't be that cool to me if it was just a close-up crapped shot of the billboard. Thank you for sharing.

oozey17

Yuma Arizona?

drfrink85

Where he works in software, in the software business

Otherwise-Mango2732

That too. Speech to text screwed me here lol

Recent_War_6144

He went that way! He stole my wallet!

Otherwise-Mango2732

I put a dollar in, I got a car. I put a dollar in, I got a car. I put a dollar in, I got a car.

Recent_War_6144

I'm proud of your quoting skills! That movie was awesome!

Otherwise-Mango2732

It was my favorite movie when it was released. Watched it 100 times back then.. (Back to back in the theater actually while on a date lol) It may not be the greatest vacation movie overall but I love it

Recent_War_6144

Christmas Vacation is my personal favorite.

Craigfromomaha

On a related note: [1989 was a great year for film](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_films_of_1989)

Recent_War_6144

Wow! Yes, it was!

Impossible_Ad_9944

I remember when this billboard went up. I was in HS and we were so excited for the Luxor.

drfrink85

As a Los Angeles resident the best part of the Luxor hotel is seeing the beam of light when driving down the pass on the 15 freeway.

JustVan

"We're getting close!"

Greglebowski74

I remember it being partially visible in 2008, I'm amazed it's still visible now!

Ainolukos

Imo, the hotel should buy out the billboard and keep it there as a museum piece

1320Fastback

Reminds me of the Space Balls billboard.

lfr1138

Stopped over when driving home from New Mexico after Christmas 1992, and remember seeing this billboard and the initial steel framing for the pyramid. I also remember having breakfast at and playing keno in the cafe at the old Sands casino on that trip. I don't recall if it was this trip or a different one when we walked through the Dunes just before it closed for demolition - just a few tables and slots still operating and big sections curtained off. Always wild how fast things change in Vegas.

Kimber80

Nostalgia! I remember visiting Vegas in late 1992 and the Luxor under construction.

StupidTurtle88

Is the property going to be in the shape of a pyramid? I hope it’s in the shape of a pyramid.

Abject_Penalty1489

Gonna need more nearly identical perspectives, for science.

guyuteharpua

Wait til you get drunk and try out our inclinators....

deanisdead

“The place fairly reeked of high-grade formica and plastic palm trees.” - HST

checkinginagain

Those were the days...Couldn't afford Luxor so we stayed next door. But would always get the $2.99 steak and eggs after 2am. Thanks for the memories.

Rab1dus

That's awesome. I stayed at the Luxor in 1994. My first trip to Vegas. I learned a lot that trip.

biztechninja

I stayed at the Luxor a few weeks after it opened. They were still "finishing" things. Lots of rooms were still not ready and there were construction people all over the place. They had a gondola ride inside the casino. We got a corner suite with a jacuzzi for a great deal. The jacuzzi leaked. It was fun but a bit strange.

WinnerMove

Just Beautiful.

I_Dont_Like_Rice

Last time I was there was in '95 and they were just starting construction of the overhang canopy thing and NY NY.

QueenOfTheLeaf

That's in remarkable shape for being so old!

usernl1

It was always my dream to visit that stupid pyramid once in my life. Rip dream.

Sammyd1108

Wait, did Luxor close? It was still there last May when I was there.

PumaHunter

It's still open

usernl1

Rip because I can not go there anymore, because of my health

Down_The_Witch_Elm

It was the biggest disappointment ever inside. You didn't miss much.

KingKaos420-

Pretty soon there’s gonna be signs like this for the guitar-shaped building that’s gonna replace The Mirage

Last-Kitchen3418

Yey!! Can’t wait!

thegreatchasej

Reminds me of a game.

Luminox

LameDonkey1

Having stayed there I figured it was built in the 50s with how offensive the dust smell is.

b0ardski

didn't think there were any 30yr old buildings left it vegas?

NeonPhyzics

Funny. That place smells like moldy ass now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
