I guarantee you that it will be quite energyzing

qatamat99

God damn you. Take my upvote and never comment again

Barriestraps81

Brilliant :)

Robmeu

Seriously, get an electrician in as soon as possible. You have no earth or the earth has failed. Other things in the building could also be live like this. Throw the main switch and call a sparky. It’s really dangerous chap, them blue sparks are death.

Legend_is_me

"The earth has failed" made me lose it lmao But yeah you're right, really dangerous, has to be fixed asap

iushciuweiush

>"The earth has failed" made me lose it lmao I always found it amusing when going through non-American specs and seeing 'earth' instead of ground. I mean it's a perfectly reasonable term for it but it just sounds funky because when I think Earth I think about the planet as a whole, not the piece of dirt next to my electrical panel.

Legend_is_me

I've heard both uses quite often where I'm from, so less confusion, but it can be amusing when your brain takes a bit to process it Also, "piece of dirt next to my electric panel" isn't what grounding is... maybe I'm just gonna get r/whoosh ed, but still Earthing is actually burying a big metal plate underground and connecting all your panels to that through the grounding/Earthing wire so that if there is any current that goes to places it shouldn't, like metal parts of toasters or smth, those otherwise dangerous currents can pass through the grounding port (the upper, bigger pin of most 3 pin plugs) to the plate, which then releases the charges into the ground (or earth) hence the name

KarmicComic12334

Correct me if I'm wrong, but i was taught a cold water pipe is an acceptable ground. The voltage needed to make a drain pipe spark like an arc welder is unfathomable to me.

ZossiWonders

Cold water pipe as ground isn’t safe (or up to code) these days. One little section of PVC pipe will break the circuit and all of sudden you’ve just electrified the pipes! Decent chance that’s what we’re seeing here.

CleverestRaptor

Cold water as a ground usually isn't an issue. What you guys are overlooking is this isn't a cold water pipe, it's the drain pipe. PVC (DWV) isn't used for domestic supply lines. Sure, you can. Use PEX and sometimes CPVC pressure pipe, but the utility typically won't run that into the house where ground wires are usually found. Maybe only in very new subdivisions. My point ultimately is that unless someone tries to ground to old cast iron sanitary pipe, I'm wondering if something else is going on. One of my thoughts was someone dropped some reactive metal into the drain, like Potassium or something.

[deleted]

I think you are spot on. There is smoke first which is evidence of something burning, and if you look closer those are not sparks coming out, but flames. My guess is lithium dropped in the drain hitting the water and grease/ hair/ soap in the trap.

CleverestRaptor

I mean, you can see the slow but steady drip at the end of the video. I think someone is messing around. Probably in a vacated building. The other thing is I can't figure what would be causing electric arcing this far out in the system based on something being grounded elsewhere as usually the grounding everyone is talking about is in a basement or at the main electrical service. And also for reference, it's required to also bond (or ground) to gas lines. Not just domestic supply piping. It would surely arc or try to reach ground at the path of least resistance. If it didn't find something sooner, water and the trap would just sit there at a lurking with unassuming potential (voltage) until some moron comes by and touches it. Then WHAM! It's all too suspect for me. And slightly annoys me that everyone is so quick to blame electricity... But maybe that's just my industry curmudgeon-ness coming out... I feel as a whole people do not understand electricity well enough and it gets a bad wrap. Not trying to throw anyone under the bus in this thread, but it's just a little aggravating to me. Idk. I'll just put away my soap box now.

CleverestRaptor

Sorry, just watched it again. The boiling gunk coming out also gets darker as the video goes on. To me it's a chemical reaction. Plain as day.

st_stalker

My guess is - something was grounded to metal drain pipe, then some part of the drain pipe between grounded device and ground itself was either disconnected or replaced with PVC and grounding path became drain pipe -> metal sink -> tap -> water pipe.

Galaxeriminabraxer

The voltage could very well be low, a couple of volts maybe, but the current is high. Like welding.

Raichu7

It’s called an earth because you have to connect the circuit to the earth.

Robmeu

I liked the drama.

casastorta

My second favorite from that comment is “call a sparky”. 🤣

MackingtheKnife

That’s a colloquial term for an electrician in many places. but yes, it’s fun lol

JoeyRottens

Sparkey here. The dipshit carpenters call us Sparkles. -The more you know.

sdeason82

Lmaoooo plumbers call us sparky. I call them mr shitty😂

Celemourn

Physicist/Mechanical Engineer here, going to start calling you sparkles now too. XD

commanderanderson

Yeah we call them that here. Plumbers are turd chasers

sonicjesus

Low voltage guys are half-watts.

Icy-Midnight4644

Turd burglars here

StringyCarpet07

You used colloquial correctly. Congrats. Anybody with that in their Vocabulary needs to leave reddit immediately

BruhDuhMadDawg

"You have no earth" - Take it back! I have plenty of earth!

Douchebigalo973

Needs a new dirt wire with a solid twisty piece of metal.

[deleted]

BEHOLD, above. My level of electrical knowledge, laid bare. (I legit dunno if dirt wire is a thing lmao)

Douchebigalo973

Some people call it a floor wire..

connectedliegroup

Isn't it just a ground wire?

tokinaznjew

In reality, it's we who failed earth.

hapidad

"And with that, he walked off into the hazy barren never to be seen again."- Morgan Freeman

Time_Mage_Prime

Whole thing's bunk, forget the electrician call a geomancer!

technicolordreams

What a magnificently British comment.

TossPowerTrap

What I hear you saying, is that this is an unsafe situation.

ChristianTheSeeker

I believe we as a species failed the earth

MyFeetOwnMySoul

By the look of the hi-vis jacket in the mirror, this person is the electrician.

SmashBonecrusher

Can confirm ; had a neighbor who lived in a mobile home which got damaged in a tree-fall; they *lost their ground* and the entire system went whacky until they got professional help ! They were lucky they didn't get burned to the ground !

ApricotNo2918

Zactly. People have died from this condition just touching a water pipe.

DevilXD

> You have no earth or the earth has failed. The earth connection: https://i.redd.it/zjo53tgs8eh01.jpg

Different_Zero8760

Really a electrician? No the dude needs fucking firefighters

thegreatgatsB70

Your electricity is not grounded.

[deleted]

Actually it is. To the sink. /s

shaggydog97

Well, you are probably correct. I'm not an electrician, but the plumbing is probably bonded to ground, and the neutral to the grid is probably broken forcing electric to the ground.

Hardrocker1990

Can conquer. Got zapped by 220 volts when I touched my kitchen sink (tested it with an ammeter). The idiot that did the electrical work grounded the panel to a plastic CPVC pipe coming in from the main.

scrufdawg

I think the word you were looking for is "concur"

Sad-Bastage

You'd better hope, or our village may be at risk.

Significant_Fee3083

Not if his sink can help it

[deleted]

What's wrong with conquering kitchen sinks?

Sic_Dood

This guy fucks. 🤘

KoolDiscoDan

Betcha it's electrifying too.

BeShaff25

Improperly grounded^

glorious_reptile

...and where does the stuff in the sink go?

dofyman

Heaven

Ruenin

Vapor is just water in ghost form, so yes, I am with you on this.

CowntChockula

Vapor is ghost water. I like the way you think.

Beneficial-Group

Let’s rephrase that the plumbing is not grounded!

iamtoe

No, this is probably happening because the plumbing *is* grounded. something electrical nearby probably is not properly wired, causing the electricity to use the pipes to complete the circuit.

WilliamMorris420

Looks like a botched DIY job.

riickdiickulous

Our old house had the panel ground tied to the copper main water line coming in. Idk if it was ever legal but it wasn’t uncommon either.

AdvertisingFalse7220

I always thought that the comparison of voltage and amperage to water volume and pressure were supposed to be just analogies. The more ya know.

yesbutlikeno

Explain like I'm 5

Izzosuke

The first time you do some eletric in physics they say that the ampere through a line is like the flow of water through a pipe, while the voltage are like the quantity of water in the tank, the higher the voltage will result in a major number of amper going trhough the line in the same way a higher water level in a tank will result in a higher flow of water

PXranger

Voltage is water pressure, Amperage is the size of the pipe (amount of water) watts is how many gallons you end up with Edit: P= I*E P = power, I = Amps E = Volts

droi86

Damnit, where were you 20 years ago when I was dealing with that stuff in school?

Sprakket

Not quite. Resistance is the width of the pipe. Flow rate is amps.

NeoAzurex

Clever explanation

AdvertisingFalse7220

Or in this case: amperage is the water, voltage is the water, and wattage is the water

rudytomjanovich

Underrated comment.

badatmetroid

I upvoted and gave reddit silver, so now it's just "rated comment"

[deleted]

i'd avoid touching any plumbing, i suspect there's a ground fault in the buildings electrical and the plumbing is likely live

reikipackaging

unlike humans will be when they wash their hands

Th3ManWhoSmiles

Looks like someone bonded to a hot water pipe, or that they bonded to the cold water and it converts to some non metallic pipe before entering the ground. This may have been the case for a while and you just had a short to ground somewhere which energized your pipes. TIRN OFF THE POWER! ALL OF IT! CALL AN ELECTRICIAN!

Nervous-Bullfrog-884

Going to need a Plummer to fix that pipe Call the electrician first!

samyazaa

Nah just call that one friend we all know that happens to know how to fix everything. Get him and his dad over here. They’ll figure it out and we’ll just owe them a case of beer or two.

[deleted]

they can get drunk and bet one another how long they can touch it

m945050

Going to need an electrician to rewire the plumber.

Worst_username_eva

There was an incident here a few years ago where a young girl touched an garden tap at her home and was electrocuted. She survived but not without suffering severe injury and disability, including quadriplegia, severe cognitive impairment, cerebral vision impairment, communication impairment and oropharyngeal dysfunction, which means she cannot swallow.

DeathIsNear696969

Only likely by the Looks huh

horshack_test

I think you're fine, considering this is someone else's video.

guilty_bystander

Stop being reasonable. This is Facebook.

FitMathematician828

Better tell the original poster to be careful

Telemere125

My grandfather had a rental where the plumbing kept shocking everyone and couldn’t figure out the leaking voltage. Had my uncle just install grounding rods all around the house and tie the plumbing to it (all galv pipes). When I bought the house and started demoing the plumbing to update I found that only one of the water heater’s elements was hooked up, the other had the hot line touching the tank and sending all that power into the plumbing… fun times…

[deleted]

This is the one time employees must not wash their hands before returning to work.

MadLintElf

That's a death just waiting to happen, get that grounded asap and before that turn off the power.

nryporter25

Too late, read the first part and messed with the wires before turning off the power.

audigex

Grounding the pipes can come later, the bigger priority is finding out why they’re live in the first place… somewhere, probably in the walls, you’ve got a live wire touching a pipe Or alternately the grounding might be the problem - someone may have previously grounded to the pipework, but the pipework has a non-metal break before leaving the property. So this could therefore be a leak to (what they thought was) ground, where the ground ended up not actually being ground Either way you’re gonna need an electrician. But yeah, while he’s there, once he’s fixed that, get him to ground your pipework properly

brownJesus101

Imagine peeing in a commode during such electric fault

hoosierdaddy192

I doubt anything would happen while peeing. Porcelain is a great insulator, water is not a good conductor unless it’s hard with minerals ~~and the drain piping is a different system from water supply It might zap you when you go to flush though~~ edit because I’m a DA. My mind went to bonded water pipes which is supply side.

It’s actually a P-trap

fordley719

What else am I supposed to do with my extra fireworks? Use them?

TheyCallMeChunky

Til how sparkling water is made.

dellwoodtoo

Potassium pipes

BonnieJeanneTonks

Yep. Drop potassium in water and load of sparks. Back in 1980, at Bozeman Junior High (now Sacajawea Middle School) two kids blew the toilet off the wall flushing potassium down the toilet. It didn't do what they wanted so they flushed more. And more. They walked away, disappointed, and exited the bathroom just before the toilet exploded. Beautiful but dangerous!

frontyer0077

This is how people die

StealyEyedSecMan

Call a plumber! And a electrician! AND and the exorcist!

[deleted]

It’s fine, it’s just the carburetor.

Several_Emphasis_434

Don’t run any water, don’t touch it and call an electrician

BloatedCrow

Yup that looks like your average run of the mill eel infestation. You can lure them out with some batteries and then grab em with some rubber gloves.

Anthony9824

Call a plumbtrician!

kanakamaoli

Call the plubtrician!

GangNailer

Dangerous af. Call an electrician

Kemizon

You don't walk away from that... you run from that!

DJJbird09

is this the new update for Flint, Michigan's water?

fogSandman

If your plumbing lines were grounded, a breaker should trip, unless you have old Zinsco/Sylvania circuit breakers. You might want to change those out. I'd be worried that a wire in the wall crosses over the plumbing lines and the hot is arcing/shorting to them. You will need to cut into the wall and find the damaged wire, before someone gets electrocuted from touching a faucet or something.

razor1x1

Sugar, spice and everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girl, but prof. Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction.. CHEMICAL X. Thus the Powerpuff girls were born. Using their ultra superpowers, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup have dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil..

donman1990

Arch discharge insinkerator: brilliant.

therealbanju

you should use 220V water only maybe you used 110V water

Spiritual-Ad2530

Lucky you didn’t shock yourself

RickySpanish412

Thor was pooping nearby

slityourguts

Yo guys did we fucking just catch someone who coincidentally filmed his dad trying to murder him? Watch this shit again. I know I got abuse victims out there to understand this shit. The way his dad was talking sounded like it led up to "Turn on the water" or whatever he said. Shits scary

elizaeffect

It’s fine.

Junior-Ad-2207

What you have there are worker mice working overtime to finish seal welding your p trap. Should only be another 4 hours

ack1308

Or smoke. Sparking and smoking are not a good thing for plumbing.

PhilosophySwimming83

Often times people ground things to the cold water pipe

jaybazzizzle

"They ran out of insinkerators at the warehouse so I just plugged a taser into the plumbing. Same thing, right?"

Rukasu17

It's a feature. So that when you wash your hands you get that tingling

Ardothbey

Touch no pipes! You either have a live wire in contact with a pipe or an incorrect ground. Been happening long? Have any work done recently?

Brice92Partain

You definitely don’t want to take a shower in that house

Shame-Koala

Water supply needs to be earthed, seen this many times unfortunately when someone decides to install new electrics on an older build

darksider63

Free electrolytes for the handover bro.

bighaldog

Its got what plants crave ... oh wait, wrong movie.

undiscovered_soul

Decades ago it wasn't unusual to make electrical grounding inside water plumbing. This triggers my electrophobia 😱😱😱

Yamo_chan

That’s a trusting/stupid partner there. “Hmm how weird. There seems to be an electric current where one shouldn’t be. Hey you! Touch that metal faucet and turn the water on. I want to see what happens….”

96Miles

Some chemicals react extremly with water.

RaceDBannon

Never let the smoke out.

dumpitdog

I believe it's possible that my father might have done some home repairs on your house sometime in the past. Sure looks like his work.

papa1775

Self-soldering plumbing joint.

Magrowers

My water has more electrolytes than yours! Bottle it and sell it.

SingleSoil

That’s not what they mean when they say you need to drink more electrolytes

[deleted]

It’s hard enough getting a plumber to show up… or an electrician. But getting both at the same time? Glad this is YOUR problem

Flaky_Bed3707

Try flushing the toilet and see it gets better

GaffJuran

Call an electrician, a plumber, and an exorcist, and just leave them to it.

coffeeandspliff

It’s not supposed to leak either…

4AcidRayne

I like the idea of an in-system method of heating water without a big hot water heater in-line as much as the next person, but this seems kinda sketchy.

CaliforniaFreightMan

Was a lithium battery dropped in the drain?

blUUdfart

It’s self soldering pipes. …the sparks means it’s working.

probablyonmobile

Ah, excellent; a new irrational phobia.

ummIamNotCreative

Staring today on how fucked up is fucked up...

synerjay16

I can only think of sodium in water.

salivatious

Hope you already called an electrician. Wires aren't grounded (earth failed?) Or something else but call one if you haven't yet and forget the jokes for now. It's serious and you are at risk.

skrglywtts

Did you drop potassium in there?

qatamat99

It has sparkling water

Smokes_Letzz_Go

Bruh think you'll get your deposit back 🤣🤣

amccune

There's your problem right there. You got a bad fuse on your sink plumbing.

Lockhartizard

WHAT'S GOIN' ON NOW?!

TheOmegaRaider

It's got electrolytes

Chuckles52

The ground wire and the white wire in your outlets are connected to the plumbing (in a round a bout water). So yes, your wire to ground has failed.

Rygarman

Just asked my friend (he’s an electrician) and he said “probably ran a screw into the romex behind the wall.” “Romex is the flat wire that is nailed to the 2x4 studs.”

justme11224

please leave your house before your house turns into a pile of rubble. Ok?

rjswalker1987

Somebody forgot to ground the water pipe lol

WHTrunner

That's that spicy water!

[deleted]

Do you call an electrician, a plumber or a priest?

betatwinkle

This looks like professional strength drain cleaner (seriously). I've had it do some crazy shit

Fine_Ad_7960

Who tf dumped all their electrolytes down the drain.

jdehjdeh

Johnny had dreamed of earning twice the wage since he was a little boy but alas, the world was not ready for his concept of the plumbtrician.

mattias_kk

Who the fuck shat plasma in the sink

jamesthatsjim

Yea sir that’s the new AC water current we provide here at sparkling water. If you just flip the switch turn it off wait 30 secs the water should be warm!

[deleted]

Forget the electrician, you need a priest!

Dense_Surround3071

Obviously you aren't familiar with tankless water heaters....😎

UnluckyEthan

Dats what McDonald’s sprite tastes like

Impressive_Ad127

Kinda just looks like they dropped fireworks down the drain.

Flopamp

It's just you

Flibertyjibitz

It's got electrolytes!

[deleted]

I would be stuck on who to call… Plumber? Electrician?!

cruss0129

Appears they attempted to ground your plumbing, but they wired it up so the plumbing puts you in the ground!

Woodstuffs

Dude has a time portal in his bathroom sink!

DeadEye_2020

Now I need to find an electrical plumber

isaiascu

Get your electrical system grounded correctly or electrocute

Danny_Phantom15

Someone probably just poured their McDonald’s sprite in there
