I second this!! Love my Ruggable runner, I just toss it in the wash and it comes out beautiful! And there are literally hundreds of patterns to choose from.
I got a cheap one from rugs USA for like $50. It’s a busy pattern in a jute/synthetic blend. The pattern and various colors hide potential stains, and it’s pretty.
There are so many washable options now! I just got one this week for our our kitchen and it really helps make it feel more cozy. I got a thick rug pad for under it too so it’s more cushiony. The pad was actually more than the rug lol I got the rug on sale from target for $35!
I use an outdoor rug in my kitchen. When disaster strikes, I drag it outside and hit it with the hose and deck brush. The carwash would work, too. In fact, after an overnight dog accident, it's drying on the porch right now.
That's what I came to say. That light corner near the window is screaming for a tall, potted something.
Spider plants are my favorite though, mostly because I can't kill em and they hang so lovely.
Good advice! I might also take the pictures off of the fridge and put them elsewhere, or on the side away from the door so you can enjoy them but less clutter? Curtains over the window? Remove the vitamins from the fruit bowl so it is a pretty piece. Maybe put them in your bathroom if more room?
There’s a planner I saw that was very similar. Had phrases like “fucking goal digger” lmao
The only reason I didn’t buy it was because I didn’t think I’d use it
I can see some vintage-y light curtains on the window and a small flower pot on the ledge. A bowl of fruit. A colorful braided rug. A 60s/70s but not hippy.
Wall art , colorful rug , dish towels, potholders and cute patterns hung from the stove or neatly folded beside the sink, fresh flowers on the counter with the vase
Your cabinets, countertops, and backsplash are laminate. You could actually go peel and stick crazy and probably not have any real issues with removing it.
If you're not up for all that, a bunch of low cost and low effort fixes could make a big difference: a colorful rug or gel mat, colorful towels and accessories, window drapes or coverings, new cabinet pulls and handles, wall art, and plants.
Agreed - You can put contact paper on the outside of cabinets to change their colour.
Maybe consider trying a navy blue on the base cabinets and keeping the uppers white?
This, with brass or black pulls would look quite sharp.
Plants, a Roman blind (remove current and keep in a closet for when you move out, and a Persian inspired runner rug. Any natural elements you can add such as a wooden plant stool and linen-texture hand rags will do wonders as well
Yes, I swapped them out and used them in other rentals! I just kept the old ones under the sink and it was one of the last things I did moving out. I lived in Boston, so we’re not talking huge kitchens, little ones like OPs (and similar knobs, too).
under cabinet lighting from Ikea....hanging fruit basket.....maybe buy a cheap backsplash with color that sticks on like a sticker (I have them, can get them on temu, etc.)
If you don’t want to paint, brightly colored rug, curtain and dish towels, and if you don’t plan to use the wall for storage like hanging pots and pans then some cute framed photos/art would really make it pop!
Go to an antique mall and get random unique things. Also I’ve seen removable wallpaper or backsplashes. I’ve never tried so I don’t know if they look tacky but worth a shot. Cover anything that’s grey
Plaaaants, a hanging plant by the window or a vining plant above the microwave would look great, a rug, maybe some bright curtains, i would do a bright colored runner rug instead of the one grey one
The previous comments have already covered everything I could think of, but I have another random suggestion - I recently bought a set of small magnetic containers that you can stick on your fridge. It really made a huge difference. I was able to put cards, clips, markers, and even a few small decorative plants in different containers. It greatly helped reduce visual clutter and make the fridge look tidy.
There was a post on here earlier with a was room that was similar in size and shape. The OP really turned it around with some wallpaper! Please check it out.
Some fake house plants and maybe a couple of pieces of small art to put on the wall. A warm colored rug with a pretty design would really help as well. :)
Ask your landlord if you can paint. If you can, paint using a warm white, such as Benjamin Moore's Swiss Coffee or Super White, or Sherwin-Williams Snowbound.
Purchase a [washable runner](https://ruggable.com/collections/runner-rugs#ss.filter.ss_size=2.5'x7') in a color you like. Purchase new kitchen towels and oven mitts to coordinate, or purchase new kitchen towels and then a rug to coordinate.
Installing a Roman shade, or if you are handy, [DIY the shade](https://www.bhg.com/decorating/window-treatments/window-projects/how-to-make-roman-shades/), or a [wicker blind](https://www.homedepot.com/b/Window-Treatments-Window-Shades-Bamboo-Shades/N-5yc1vZbt0v) for the window. If privacy is not a huge issue, consider hanging a [cafe curtain](https://www.chloerey.com/blog/no-sew-cafe-curtains-diy) \- perhaps made out of matching kitchen towels.
Change out the knobs on the cupboards and cabinets.
Find storage spaces for any appliances you don't use frequently.
Declutter the kitchen as much as possible.
Move your fruit basket to the cart and put a small lamp in its place.
Consider putting up some [shelves](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/bergshult-shelf-white-70421238/) over the cart.
Display some artwork and some perhaps colorful bowls or other decorative pieces. Plants if you can keep them alive. Bonus points for herbs that you can also use in your cooking!
OR: OP can put contact paper on the outside of cabinets to change their colour.
Maybe consider trying a navy blue on the base cabinets and keeping the uppers white?
This, with brass or black pulls would look quite sharp.
Put a bigger colourful art piece on the left side. Have a hanging plant in the corner by the window. Put the calendar somewhere else like the fridge and put an art piece there. Get a nice rubber rug instead of the bath Mat looking thing and match it with the colorful art piece.
A long narrow runner. Wallpaper (you can buy it cheap for rentals but it can be hard to put up. Change your blinds or add curtains. Flowers and plants.
One long runner rug, with a color and pattern. A little lamp in the corner where you have the Pam and stuff. A hanging plant and colored tea towels will add some life to the space.
Instead of a small plane rug I would get along runner that is colourful like a Persian rug or something. Above that little island trolly thing I would put a big piece of artwork not something small. I would also hang one or two hooks in the ceiling to the left side of the window and hang some plant holders to add some greenery and life and decor :-)
This is my specialty. There are so many peel and stick type of options on Amazon. Go nuts, it all can be removed when you leave. One thing I would do is replace the knobs on the cabinet doors. Save them in a little baggie so you can put back before you leave. It’s really inexpensive and can make a big impact. Hang a stick up light in the kitchen or even the battery operated sconces from Amazon as well. It would look really cozy across from your microwave. Definitely a rug or even get some peel and stick tiles but make sure they’re the removable type. Some plants would make a beautiful difference. Cute hand towels, maybe clean up the items stuck to the fridge. They also sell magnetic fridge decals. You could slap one on. Last but not least, a cozy style of blinds. Amazon is literally a gold mine for little DIY inexpensive options. I’ve always jazzed up the rentals I was in. Please post an after when you get around to it! :)
As already mentioned: plants!
A runner might be nice instead of the one single floor mat. You can get washable ones that aren't as cumbersome.
And some color! Color can elicit feelings and moods, yellows and peaches and oranges are good colors for kitchens, greens do nicely as well. But if you pick your favorite color and add some small accessories with that in mind I'm sure it'll do wonders to spruce it up!
Get an area rug to make it more cozy; switch out the hardware on the cabinets and get some pretty knobs on Amazon or Hobby Lobby; fresh flowers in a vase on the countertop….there’s a lot you can do to personalize it.😊
I love your calendar! Makes it very homey to me! 😊 Can you paint the back wall in a warm blue or teal? Add a rug-like an Asian style rug that will bring out the colors of the back wall? Not sure of the window. Maybe a drop down valance for privacy but can be raised to add light.
Washable runner rug and peel and stick wall paper for that blank white wall! I think it would be cute with something colorful and kitschy. Maybe cafe curtains if you can change out the blinds. And lots of plants!
Plants always help make it more homey, or some flowers, real or fake It doesn’t matter it just kind of brightens up the place makes it look like a relaxing atmosphere.
This space is very nice and clean. I’d be thrilled to have that floor and those white cabinets. Put a nice hanging plant in the corner and some art on the walls. Also I second the runner idea.
The answer is never plants. At least for me! Add color (red or blue or purple or whatever) through accessories, teapot, apron, dishes. Even ceiling light if allowed. Even though dishes, pots, and pans may be behind closed doors, if they are colorful it will make a difference in your psyche when you pull them out to use. Ditto with cloth napkins, potholders, cookue jar, and even silverware handles. You could attach small colorful piece of artwork or textiles to the refrigerator with magnets or self adhesive velcro on the back.
Get rid of all the magnets and towels and thing cluttering up the kitchen. Put up a colorful valance. You can get rods that are magnetic or tension. Matching long runner
Get rid of the dark rug, you need pops of color. Look into swapping out the knobs on the cabinets (save the blah ones to put back on when you move). I also liked to run a strand of multicolor lights along the wall close to ceiling, sometimes I make a swoopy design or something. Command hooks don't put any holes in the wall/ceiling.
Peel and stick tiles for back splash are great, I used them in my rental. You can find some that look like real glass. Also, can you paint the walls? If you wanted to switch out knobs you could too, but it’s expensive! Depends on your budget :)
Also, I’d make the counter across from the fridge some kind of bar, like coffee bar or something with a little art and a plant to make it welcoming and fun to prep your morning coffee/tea/smoothie etc. or pick a theme if you do movie nights, you could do popcorn and snacks for example.
Use peel and stick removable wallpaper on the wall of the doorway and then the wall across from it. It will make the blinds pop on that wall and then give some definition to the fridge/wall/cabinet. Then plants!
@prettyinthepines on IG has great small kitchen inspo! You just have a scroll a bit when she lived in her New York apartment. She also has YouTube videos about some of the renter friendly things she did!
Commenting so that when I find the video of an identical galley kitchen of my dreams I can post it here
Edit- [holy shit I can’t believe I found the video I was thinking of](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8WXJaa8/)
As far as the curtains suggestions, stick with a colorful valance. I wouldn’t hang anything longer that close to the stove. Then add a small planter that complements the color scheme you decide on. Rug and dish towels in complimentary colors.
Honestly it looks good and cozy for what it is. It’s not a super functional space for an eat in kitchen.
Lots of people are saying a runner rug which I disagree with as that is generally used as a passageway and has a lot of chi (energy) to it. In a kitchen you want to slow down. And not slip on a carpet onto the hot stove…
I’d add some plants for greenery…doesn’t have to be a ton, and if you’re not a green thumb person, maybe research some low maintenance plants that are good for your location. I’d also choose a color theme, and maybe add some accents, like towels, rugs, and a sheer curtain, maybe? Someone mentioned some nice coffee decor, which I like that idea as well. I found a wooden lazy Susan at Walmart for $12, and I keep all my coffee supplies on it, and decorated it with tiny cappuccino cups which were also at Walmart for $.98. I use those for my fancy $6 stir stick and my honey stick! Lol
Hang a Japanese paper lantern with a dimmer switch. It’s nice to have diffused light off the ceiling instead of a harsh ceiling light.
I’d hang a nice 3/4 height mirror on the wall opposite the kitchen doorway.
It will brighten it because it will reflect the light coming in from the kitchen.
And the space ceiling space above the doorway would be great for kitchen storage, pantry, etc. A small step ladder would give you easy access.
I’m also a fan of an accent colors— like painting the cabinets, or just the side panels of the cabinets, a deep red. And maybe paint the cutting board cart the same red. Purples, blues, and greens are not the best for kitchens. Warm tones like ochre, crimson, chestnut, deep amber make great accent colors. An accent colored carpet runner is nice too.
Hear me out. Love the calendar but seems to be in an awkward spot. And, what's on the floor in that corner? Remove the appliance above the microwave.
Not sure if your style but the "after" pic here has some similarities to your space.

[Please have a look at the edit I just spent about 4 hours making on photoshop](https://imgur.com/a/co6xylu) 😅 I am a total amateur but it was fun and I am procrastinating doing real work
This is assuming you don’t want to spend loads of money on new utensils etc, and that you want to keep the counters clear. Also if you don’t know, you can get adhesive hooks that are really strong
I’d move the sink and put a stainless drop in sink right in front of that awesome window. I’d relocate that microwave and oven to the other side of the room and extend those countertops to wrap around the room like a U shape with the sink in the center. Paint it a neutral color and a black ceiling. It’ll make it look so much larger. I’d consider putting some vinyl planks down with an underlayment laying in the direction toward the window. It’ll really make that small room look like it’s continuing for a mile. I’ve done quite a few remodels. Wish I could draw you a picture.
After you get a runner, add pictures on the wall. I paint so that’s easy for me. But you can get a picture rails at IKEA for cheap and find art at the second hand shops. You’ll give your kitchen some character in no time.
I am adding this: two, slim , tall mirrors on each side of the window. Will possibly make the kitchen feel a little larger?
And this might be a stretch, but getting a bistro table with two slim chairs instead of the cutting table? Not sure on that one though….
Where all the colors in this kitchen are white and grey a color like red or burgundy would make it pop. Multi colored grey white and red or burgundy runner with red or burgundy Roman shades with same color kitchen towels. Clean off the fridge...too cluttered and hang the calendar on the side of the fridge near the counter. You could also get some red or burgandy knobs relatively cheap and just put the original ones away until you have to move so you can put them back.
peel and stick face tile backsplash (if you can’t stick it on there then get thin wood or thick poster board and add stick tile to that and put it over ugly brown. Replace cabinet knobs and a really colorful rug. I think a wire shelf would make kitchen feel less crowded that the white wood top thingy.
Stick on removeable wallpaper. You can also use command strips to hang wall art. And command hooks too. You could probably use them to attach a valance to the window shade too.
Edit: Search on YouTube for renter friendly decor ideas and hacks. There are so many removable products out there.
Hi! You have a nice, neutral starting off point. I will link a blog post I wrote that gives some tips on decorating your kitchen that give it a more cozy feel. Hope it helps!

Check out [Marco Zamora on IG](https://www.instagram.com/want.zamora?igsh=MWZkNnVna3kweGplag==)!! He has a rental as well and his profile will definitely give u a lot of ideas❤️
It does not need to be more homey, it is rental. Please no nicknacks that kids will break or rugs that people will trip on. I can not stand extra decor on rentals. And don’t charge them if said nicknacks break!
Honestly, nothing. It isn’t worth upgrading a rental to be honest.
Most renters don’t want to pay a premium to someone else because the place has upgraded finishes. The majority choose the most comfortable basics. If there is a plan to buy their own home in the future, they upgrade at that time based on their own preferences and saleability.
That’s my experience in the Ontario rental market, at least.
You could make it nicer to attract a greater pool of prospective tenants but that’s pretty much where it ends.
You can put contact paper on the outside of cabinets to change their colour.
Maybe consider trying a navy blue on the base cabinets and keeping the uppers white?
This, with brass or black pulls would look quite sharp.
1) Add a cupboard over the cart for the appliances and items on the counter corner.
2) Do not hang the kitchen towel on the cupboard. Hang it up in the bathroom on the towel rack or on the shower curtain rod, and when dry, put it in the hamper. Fresh kitchen towel and dishcloth daily. Helps prevent mould and bacteria.
3) Peel and stick tiles on the backsplash.
4) Spice rack.
5) Curtains. Just cover the window frame. In a pale yellow.
6) If you can paint the walls, go pale yellow by Benjamin Moore.
7) Update the cupboard knobs. Keep them the original knobs and reinstall them when you move out.
One long runner that covers most of the floor as well as window treatments and wall decor. Plants wouldn't hurt either.
I like the runner idea, will have to get one that is kitchen friendly. (High traffic, spills, etc)
They make anti fatigue runners that you can wipe clean.
I got a really nice one at rona
Check out ruggable! They make them for the kitchen and are easy to wash.
Maybe a Ruggable brand rug? They're washable. I love the Morris & Co patterns.
Here to say look at Ruggable!
Please get one in a pretty color or colourful design.
Came here to advocate for outdoor rugs! So washable and these days tons of colors and patterns.
Ruggables-machine washable. Get the thicker pad for more comfort.
Plants 🪴
The answer is always Plants!
That's what I came to say. That light corner near the window is screaming for a tall, potted something. Spider plants are my favorite though, mostly because I can't kill em and they hang so lovely.
Snake plants are next on my list lol
Plants, a brighter rug, change the cabinet knobs. Full the wall above the cart with a gallery wall of food/cooking photos.
Or move the photos and drawings from the fridge to that wall above the cart!
Ageed, plus, I'm a huge fan of peel & stick wallpaper. They also have back splashes if you find yours too dark. Good luck & have fun :)
Why does this look like the kitchen from that one Hillary Clinton photo that’s been memed into oblivion
My first thought too!
I thought the top comment about plants was referencing it
Came here to say this too
I literally thought this was from the meme
Colorful mat, nicer kitchen towels, clean up the counter and have cutting boards, a bowl of fruit, nice coffee condiments. All the little touches!
A bright colored kettle on the stovetop!
And bright untensil holders!
Love this, I think that’ll be a nice pop
Colorful mat with matching/coordinating kitchen towels 😍
Runner rug, Roman shade, light over table (the plug in kind and use a wire cover).
Oooh I light would be cool
Okay, I'm sorry this is so random but where can I get that calendar?!
Haha, my boyfriend ordered it on Amazon. I’ll ask him for the link in a bit.
Here the link to the [calendar](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1728267978?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title)
There’s a planner I saw that was very similar. Had phrases like “fucking goal digger” lmao The only reason I didn’t buy it was because I didn’t think I’d use it
Color! Curtains, rug, colorful towel, plants, art
Seconding curtains!!!

You need Hillary Clinton looking into the kitchen, shocked.
I would say a fruit bowl would look nice on the kitchen countertop. Also you can add pops of color with tea towels and a cute kitchen mat.
Invite Hillary Clinton to walk around
I can see some vintage-y light curtains on the window and a small flower pot on the ledge. A bowl of fruit. A colorful braided rug. A 60s/70s but not hippy.
Wall art , colorful rug , dish towels, potholders and cute patterns hung from the stove or neatly folded beside the sink, fresh flowers on the counter with the vase
Fresh flowers! Love it. Should prob mention I have 2 cats so plants and things like that will have to hang from ceiling most likely
Maybe a beautiful fern hung right in front of your window ..,maybe a valance or curtains? Cute place!!
Peel & stick floor tiles
We did this in an apartment we rented in the past and it was helpful!!
A lot of people saying plants, but take it one step further and get some herbs… plants you can eat.
get a curtain !
Very nice kitchen- maybe plant.. pop up color towels or floor mat.. simple incluttered looks great!!!

Are you using a bathmat for your kitchen? I would swap for a cute mat, like an anti-fatigue one from Target. Or maybe a cute runner
Plants, a Roman blind (remove current and keep in a closet for when you move out, and a Persian inspired runner rug. Any natural elements you can add such as a wooden plant stool and linen-texture hand rags will do wonders as well
Maybe new knobs on the cupboards.
Yep, I always used to swap out rental knobs with fun, colorful Anthropologie knobs back when I rented!
Did you swap them back at the end of your lease? I think I’d end up getting busy moving and not do it
Yes, I swapped them out and used them in other rentals!

Plants. Colorful hand towels. Cool spoon rests. Maybe some pictures.
Is this the Hillary Clinton kitchen meme?
Hillary Clinton has seen this kitchen
Plants. I also use colored ceramic kitchen items to make it feel more homey. Right now I have red. Canisters, teapot, etc.
Go to an antique mall and get random unique things. Also I’ve seen removable wallpaper or backsplashes. I’ve never tried so I don’t know if they look tacky but worth a shot. Cover anything that’s grey
Different rug! What about those renter friendly tile floor stick on things? I imagine might be $$$ but maybe worth it
I thought about this, will need to look into it more.
Remove the pictures from the refrigerator. Maybe put a big pretty bulletin board in the hallway either a battery operated light illuminating it.
Plaaaants, a hanging plant by the window or a vining plant above the microwave would look great, a rug, maybe some bright curtains, i would do a bright colored runner rug instead of the one grey one

Colorful mosaic stick on tiles around the door to the cupboards.
Some fake house plants and maybe a couple of pieces of small art to put on the wall. A warm colored rug with a pretty design would really help as well. :)
Brighter rug, maybe a table plant but all in all it looks cozy and comfortable.

A large runner down the middle of the room!
Put a bigger colourful art piece on the left side. Have a hanging plant in the corner by the window. Put the calendar somewhere else like the fridge and put an art piece there. Get a nice rubber rug instead of the bath Mat looking thing and match it with the colorful art piece.
Make it bigger.
I don’t know, I’m too distracted by how much I love your calendar
Don’t spend too much- it’s a kitchen. Spend money on another room.
Plants, rugs, art
Wallpaper on the smaller walls?
A long narrow runner. Wallpaper (you can buy it cheap for rentals but it can be hard to put up. Change your blinds or add curtains. Flowers and plants.
One long runner rug, with a color and pattern. A little lamp in the corner where you have the Pam and stuff. A hanging plant and colored tea towels will add some life to the space.
i have white cupboards too and i’m considering doing a colored vinyl wrap!
Replace the dish towels and mat to ones that coordinate in colour. Echo this accent colour with a few items you have on your counter.
Plants, wallpaper, & peel & stick floor tile !!!!
Color! Paint the walls, runner, artwork. It's too blah and neutral.
Also super crazy but I have the same beer magnet on my fridge my husband got it attached in a birthday card a few years ago 🤣🤣🤣
This is my specialty. There are so many peel and stick type of options on Amazon. Go nuts, it all can be removed when you leave. One thing I would do is replace the knobs on the cabinet doors. Anyone else read this title differently
Plants,
As already mentioned: plants! A runner might be nice instead of the one single floor mat. You can get washable ones that aren't as cumbersome. And some color! Color can elicit feelings and moods, yellows and peaches and oranges are good colors for kitchens, greens do nicely as well. Get an area rug to make it more cozy; switch out the hardware on the cabinets and get some pretty knobs on Amazon or Hobby Lobby; fresh flowers in a vase on the countertop….there’s a lot you can do to personalize it.😊
Get a pretty teapot and matching towels. Start with that to build in some color. Do a line of plants in front of the window (succulents, maybe).
I love your calendar! Makes it very homey to me! 😊 Can you paint the back wall in a warm blue or teal? Add a rug-like an Asian style rug that will bring out the colors of the back wall? Not sure of the window. Maybe a drop down valance for privacy but can be raised to add light.
Long carpet or rug that is almost the same length as the kitchen. Add some task lights, plants, few cookbooks if you have any.
Washable runner rug and peel and stick wall paper for that blank white wall! I think it would be cute with something colorful and kitschy. Maybe cafe curtains if you can change out the blinds. And lots of plants!
“Here we FUCKING GO AGAIN…”
Paint.
Plants always help make it more homey, or some flowers, real or fake It doesn’t matter it just kind of brightens up the place makes it look like a relaxing atmosphere.
I’m super happy with these removable [peel n stick tile decals](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1029636225/)
A nice rug a cute curtain, and some peel and stick tiles or wallpaper one one wall...I also love a little lamp on my countertop
Peel n stick wall paper on that wall with a door as an accent wall , hang more art around the windows like little collages of pics maybe
This space is very nice and clean. I’d be thrilled to have that floor and those white cabinets. Put a nice hanging plant in the corner and some art on the walls. Also I second the runner idea.
Colour
New dish towels in bright colors. Buy a lot and wash them more often.
color
Add colour, plants, earthy tones
Curtains. Do cafe curtains with a tension rod to add color and warmth.
That calendar 🤣
Get rid of all the magnets and towels and thing cluttering up the kitchen. Put up a colorful valance. You can get rods that are magnetic or tension. Matching long runner
If you’re allowed to paint my first impulse is painting the window wall a fun colour like yellow. Otherwise I think it looks homey as it is!
Paint- only if you are allowed. Curtains. Towels in color.
A small table and a couple of chairs wouldn’t hurt I believe instead of that rolling thing, no? Am I wrong?
Get rid of the dark rug, you need pops of color. Look into swapping out the knobs on the cabinets (save the blah ones to put back on when you move). I also liked to run a strand of multicolor lights along the wall close to ceiling, sometimes I make a swoopy design or something. Command hooks don't put any holes in the wall/ceiling.
Peel and stick tiles for back splash are great, I used them in my rental. You can find some that look like real glass. Also, can you paint the walls? If you wanted to switch out knobs you could too, but it’s expensive! Depends on your budget :) Also, I’d make the counter across from the fridge some kind of bar, like coffee bar or something with a little art and a plant to make it welcoming and fun to prep your morning coffee/tea/smoothie etc. or pick a theme if you do movie nights, you could do popcorn and snacks for example.
Plants, a shade in a fun fabric for the window, a lamp or 2, art, and possibly peel and stick tile or a runner
Use peel and stick removable wallpaper on the wall of the doorway and then the wall across from it. It will make the blinds pop on that wall and then give some definition to the fridge/wall/cabinet. Then plants!
Switch out the cabinet knobs. Keep the current ones in a safe place to put back on before you move out.
@prettyinthepines on IG has great small kitchen inspo! You just have a scroll a bit when she lived in her New York apartment. She also has YouTube videos about some of the renter friendly things she did!
Commenting so that when I find the video of an identical galley kitchen of my dreams I can post it here Edit- [holy shit I can’t believe I found the video I was thinking of](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8WXJaa8/)

Idk but whatever it is don’t get rid of that calendar it’s amazing
definitely a runner
Is this literally that kitchen with Hillary Clinton in all the memes??
Throw down a fake/vintage persian runner instead of the rug you have for color
Lol
Maybe a theme colour.. pick a colour and put lil touches throughout. Like fridge magnets that match the dish towels etc. & plants.
This literally looks like June (previously from serious eats) old kitchen in Jackson heights
Wall with window is crying to be painted a deep crimson tone.
Hear me out. Love the calendar but seems to be in an awkward spot. And, what's on the floor in that corner? Remove the appliance above the microwave. Not sure if your style but the "after" pic here has some similarities to your space. https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/kitchen-decor-ideas-rental-257638
Thanks!! Our cat food and water is in that corner
Add a hommie or two, just to keep it real.
Nyc?
I’d move the sink and put a stainless drop in sink right in front of that awesome window. I’d relocate that microwave and oven to the other side of the room and extend those countertops to wrap around the room like a U shape with the sink in the center. Paint it a neutral color and a black ceiling. It’ll make it look so much larger. I’d consider putting some vinyl planks down with an underlayment laying in the direction toward the window. It’ll really make that small room look like it’s continuing for a mile. I’ve done quite a few remodels. Wish I could draw you a picture.
Kitchen curtains and plants
Adhesive wall paper on cupboard doors could be cool!
After you get a runner, add pictures on the wall. I paint so that’s easy for me. But you can get a picture rails at IKEA for cheap and find art at the second hand shops. You’ll give your kitchen some character in no time.
Live Laugh Love signs everywhere. Make sure you never forget to live laugh and love!!!
Plants on top of the refrigerator and a pop of contrast in color whatever you choose
I am adding this: two, slim , tall mirrors on each side of the window. Will possibly make the kitchen feel a little larger? And this might be a stretch, but getting a bistro table with two slim chairs instead of the cutting table? Not sure on that one though….
Maybe some throw rugs and plants
Love the calendar tho
Thanks I linked it for someone else in the comments if you want to find it
Where all the colors in this kitchen are white and grey a color like red or burgundy would make it pop.
Plant and peel and stick wallpaper, or for the fridge
peel and stick face tile backsplash (if you can’t stick it on there then get thin wood or thick poster board and add stick tile to that and put it over ugly brown. Replace cabinet knobs and a really colorful rug. I think a wire shelf would make kitchen feel less crowded that the white wood top thingy.
Personally I feel that the calendar is the icing on the cake. Mission accomplished in my opinion.
Paint the calendar slogan really big on the wall to the left of it.
Stick on removeable wallpaper. You can also use command strips to hang wall art. And command hooks too. You could probably use them to attach a valance to the window shade too. Edit: Search on YouTube for renter friendly decor ideas and hacks. There are so many removable products out there.
A long runner rug in a pattern with your favorite colors.
Hmm for me kitchen should not be homey. I love cooking and that's a room where it's function over form.
I would remove the blind and put some cute lemon or avacado curtains up or some simple net curtains
Rugs, painting, books, plants and display mugs!!
plants. greenery makes everything look 10x better
Long colorful rug would be a start!
I would paint that window wall a bright colour maybe go for a Mediterranean vibe with matching accents too - turquoise/reds/oranges - rug and plants
This kitchen looks like that meme
Hi! You have a nice, neutral starting off point. I will link a blog post I wrote that gives some tips on decorating your kitchen that give it a more cozy feel. Hope it helps! Try putting a really cute and bright wallpaper on the door side of the kitchen or the window side and Paint the other walls.
Haha, love the calendar 😂 But to answer, maybe some pictures and some plants! Maybe a different coloured mat to add some colour.
Check out [Marco Zamora on IG](https://www.instagram.com/want.zamora?igsh=MWZkNnVna3kweGplag==)!! He has a rental as well and his profile will definitely give u a lot of ideas❤️
A Live Laugh Love sign Thank me later
Why are you renting a kitchen?
1000 magnets on the fridge? That’s my go to!
Plants, a rug that is bright in color, maybe even adding a painting on the wall across from the stove.
Bigger rug. A “live, laugh, limp bizkit” sign. Fridge magnets on the side. Undercupboard lighting.
Get a cute long rug
colourful galley carpet
It does not need to be more homey, it is rental. Please no nicknacks that kids will break or rugs that people will trip on. I can not stand extra decor on rentals. And don’t charge them if said nicknacks break!
What? if you live in a rental you should suffer the builder’s blandness?
Honestly, nothing. It isn’t worth upgrading a rental to be honest. Most renters don’t want to pay a premium to someone else because the place has upgraded finishes. The majority choose the most comfortable basics. If there is a plan to buy their own home in the future, they upgrade at that time based on their own preferences and saleability. That’s my experience in the Ontario rental market, at least. You could make it nicer to attract a greater pool of prospective tenants but that’s pretty much where it ends.
Wait, are you the owner or the renter? lol
Its a rental. Nothing. Wait till u have ur place and decorate it however u want
Anything from IKEA.
Drapes not blinds Carpet with character Peel and stick backsplash Colors
They make removable wallpaper you could use without worrying about rental agreements on paint.
Just start using it. It will take care of itself
Plants?
You can put contact paper on the outside of cabinets to change their colour. Maybe consider trying a navy blue on the base cabinets and keeping the uppers white? This, with brass or black pulls would look quite sharp.
Add some color and plants.
As others have said, plants for sure. A colourful rug. Some colourful tea towels, some recipe cooks, really the sky is the limit.
