MacBook. Hands down. I like the 13” size for its portability but the 15 isn’t all that much heavier. Try and go into a store to see - and pick both up. If you end up really (really) needing or wanting a tablet for note taking after you start get a used iPad 9th gen and 3rd party pencil that you don’t mind getting bashed about as it’s cheap.

That sounds like a good option cause my laptops been getting buggy

Macbook this is not even a question.

don’t sell your hp laptop and buy iPad. I used m1 MacBook Air and also m1 iPad Air. I don’t need my Mac anymore. I’m gonna sell it. I can do everything with my iPad except some specific works. So hp laptop and iPad is optimal combination.

I have an 12.9 ipad pro (2021) and bought yesterday the macbook air 15 M3 for a great deal

What are you planning on majoring in? How old is your current HP laptop? Do you have any specific uses in mind for your devices? Which option are you currently leaning towards between the iPad and the MacBook?

Ok-West6032

1) I am planning on majoring in accounting 2) 3 years old and lags from time to time 3) Just for studies tbh nothing too over the top like coding 4) I am kinda split between the two cause the note taking aspect of an ipad is pretty impressive but at the same time I feel like my current laptop will give out on me

If you’re doing accounting then keeping the HP for advanced Excel, heavy typing in Word and PPT makes a lot of sense, and then buy an iPad for studying, reading and note taking on the go. The fact is that all Office type apps on the Mac are nerfed and don’t have the features that Windows Excel and other office apps have. So you need Windows to use them effectively. And the iPad versions of those apps are also barely usable, they’re basically the iOS versions, they wont be useful for accounting studies or work.

Honestly, I would tell you to either buy the iPad or a new Windows laptop for accounting. You can definitely use a Mac for accounting purposes, but Windows has access to better apps. I personally have an M1 Air and I think it’s great, but I never knew a single accountant who had a MacBook. That said, it’s not like I specifically paid attention to that, and I graduated before the M-series chips came out so things could very well be different I think your best bet is to go to an accountant forum and ask whether anyone uses an iPad or Mac for their work or school. If they say the work is doable on an iPad, I’d get the iPad. If they say the work’s not doable on an iPad, I would get a new Windows laptop unless you find that people are saying that they get their work done just fine on a Mac with no problems. Maybe if you really wanted you could get a Mac and also buy Parallels to dual-boot Windows? No matter what, remember to buy a computer with at least 16GB RAM and at least 512GB storage Good luck in school PS if you end up getting a new Windows laptop, consider getting something a little cheaper than that 15” MacBook Air and use the cost savings to buy a cheaper iPad. They’re all pretty close when it comes to note-taking. Maybe buy a refurbished M1 iPad Pro or M1 iPad Air? But even the base iPad 10 will get you through note-taking no problem

Thank you for this. This is my dilemma b/c my Pro crashed & the repairs are too expensive. I want an iPad but was considering another Macbook b/c I use Word products a lot

DadMagnum

I have both and think that if you can only have one or the other, go for a MacBook.

Makoto_Shinkai_fan

If you don't have a use case for apple pencil go with macbook air.

sofunnysofunny

Well, it’s easy. Do you want to write on that iPad with a pencil? Yes? Go for the iPad. No? Go for the MacBook Air because it’s almost more powerful in every point than any iPad Pro. (except ProMotion)

I have a mid range Gaming desktop, a cheap laptop and an iPad. Most of the time I use my desktop and iPad but I like having my iPad for note taking for school. If your laptop needs an upgrade I'd probably get the MacBook and get an iPad later. If your laptop will get you by for a year or so, I'd get the iPad now. Ipads are amazing supplemental devices for school. I cannot recommend them enough. However, you do need an actual computer (at least in most cases) so I'd make sure I had that covered first before getting an iPad.
