It's hit and miss with my thumb, sometimes it ignores it, but if my thumb shifts just a little bit it sometimes scrolls the screen or brings up the customize wallpaper mode if it's on the lock screen. I guess I should try to have a firmer grip so my thumb doesn't shift.
Call me crazy, but I still think that portrait orientation with a hardware keyboard is amazing. Web browsing is an awesome experience. Note-taking and doc editing are perfect. The only thing that sucks is video playback.
Back then it was primarily intended for making writing documents easier. It was a much nicer keyboard to type on and also wasn't a massive rip-off like the keyboard case.
That’s what made it better! I can maybe understand the debate with video, but for the types of things you would use a keyboard for, I would much prefer portrait orientation.
It was definitely well built. Although not adjustable. It’s a lot of fun to use still, but I do feel like the new Magic Keyboard cases are better. The 2024 model in particular
The first iPad i had was the 2 ... which i still keep in my collection, has been trough my uni days, using it for reading PDF, web search, mail etc ... i remember pairing it with a bluetooth keyboard and writing the draft for my thesis
Yes, the Keyboard Dock for iPad works with iPhones provided you have a 30-pin to Lightning adapter. I haven’t tried it with a 30-pin to Lightning and Lightning to USB adapter.
It’s been 14 years already since the first ipad. I had the ipad 2 released 2011. Now I have the M2 Pro and the difference is so astounding! The only thing that’s still a bit disappointing is ipadOS. Really hoped for MacOS on the recent ipad especially pro.
I remembered that was all the concept videos about the ipad back in the early 2010s
I wonder if they will ever return to a curved back as they continue to get thinner and thinner. The original design was much easier to lift off a table with that back.
I called it that because at the time the keyboard part was almost the same as the Magic Keyboard, but with stuff added to it. I remember comparing when I first got it
yeah i agree with that but as it seems apple are all for aesthetics and the iphone 16pro models according to some leaks will feature even slimmer bezels (the 15 pro are already crazy slim).
This one was built specifically for iPad, it has a built in stand with a 30 pin dock pass through. You can see more of it if you scroll through the pics
This reminded me that once this iPad is old, this keyboard will not be usable with another device when it will have perfectly working switches and trackpad. I expect the latest iPad in 6 years would not be compatible with this magic keyboard. Not very environmentally friendly i'd say. I wish there was an adaptor that attaches to the magnets to make it usable as a usb keyboard and trackpad ( would be especially useful with the magic keyboard for the 10th gen iPad and the logitech combo touch keyboards)
The bezels on the original iPad went hard
It was kind of nice to be able to hold the iPad firmly without interacting with the screen. :D
The new ones let you do that as well. They automatically reject your thumb

Even works on my phone very well though
This is kinda buggy on my ipad 10. Often it doesn‘t register a fingerpress when my thumb is just near the screen
It had to be that big because of the tech behind it or mounts for the LCD screen
Looks like a reader type of tech.
That one even had function keys!
They got that on the first try!
I absolutely loved that keyboard. I was convinced the iPad would be the only computer I need. 14 years later and it's still true!
That boi be thicc with them bezels.
first one ain't very magical
feels weird looking at an iPad with no camera on the back
I'd forgotten how good the keyboard dock was. So much better than the Magic Keyboard case.
Really? It has to be used vertically you can’t do landscape
You can’t type in landscape on a typewriter either.

The newer ones are versatile, they're just not anywhere near worth the price.
They are expensive! But worth the price depends a bit on the user. Mine lives in the case
despite being over 14 years old, the design is still relevant, and other than the thick bezel and dated OS look, it still looks fresh and modern.
What is an ipad apart from bezel and content on screen?
The first iPad i had was the 2 ... which i still keep in my collection, has been trough my uni days, using it for reading PDF, web search, mail etc ... i remember pairing it with a bluetooth keyboard and writing the draft for my thesis
Does it work with an old iPhone too?

the bezels on the first ipad make me nervous
So hot

Totally forgot the first iPad had no camera.
That is an iPad Keyboard Dock, not a Magic Keyboard. Part number MC533LL/A.
I called it that because at the time the keyboard part was almost the same as the Magic Keyboard, but with stuff added to it. I remember comparing when I first got it
The Magic Keyboard for Mac was introduced in 2015. The iPad Keyboard Dock is from 2010.
The camera bump fills me with such seething, burning..hot, seeeeeething flaming...flames, flames coming out of my head . . . rage.
do you think in the future generations of ipads they will shrink the bezels even more?
It’ll be hard to hold if they do
yeah i agree with that but as it seems apple are all for aesthetics and the iphone 16pro models according to some leaks will feature even slimmer bezels (the 15 pro are already crazy slim).
But on the phone, you don’t have to hold or using the front at all, so that’s different. At least not how I hold mine
Glad the bezels came with the iPad
Modern MK for the win, especially the new one with the M4 units.
I thought the Magic Keyboard was meant to be used with iMac/MacBook.

Silly me you’re right ! As I have the normal one myself, I was surprised about it but now it makes sense ^^
Can’t believe how the iPad with the magic keyboard pretty much looks like a laptop now 🤯
