We had something (sort of) like that happen in our area a few weeks ago. It was caused by the Verizon tower in our area going down. My phone went in to SOS mode for most of the day. However, I didn't get any messages about the SIM card not being present. As to your situation my vote would be a service interruption.

check your service providers status page

It could be a service interruption, like PNW_Jackson suggestions, but since it’s saying “no SIM card”, that could also be the problem. Occasionally SIM cards do stop working, and that would stop your iPhone from connecting to the cellular network and trigger the SOS mode as a result. Take your phone to the local store for your carrier and ask them to replace the SIM card, see if that helps. Alternatively they could activate one of the eSIM cards built into your iPhone instead and that may fix the issue too. Try either one and let us know what happens.

Thank you very much. The individual tried the same thing in one of the Facebook groups I run; Facebook banned them after the FBI confirmed they were a known identity thief.

I’m having trouble with the same thing….It just randomly goes into sos mode and a pop up says no sim card ???? I’ve read places to click the Airplane button and at one point that worked…..I’ve also opened my SIM CARD and reinserted it…that worked really well for a bit but not anymore. I’ve attached a photo as I write this to show what it looks like. There’s no connection issues, i’m updated to the recent IOS system, i’m connected to my wifi directly. This is driving me nuts. https://preview.redd.it/reccio0m356c1.jpeg?width=666&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ddb7d10205b265ccd3c76b51d2d034025543b80

So I fixed mine by making my SIM card digital, I have a phone through att and had the option in my settings to make my SIM digital. Unsure how I did it since it has been so long but I would check the cellular options in the settings.
