Thin.Lizzy. I've been listening to more of their music recently and I just keep finding more and more songs that I love at a level that no other rock band has done for me.
I would like to just say that we're experiencing a fantastic era in Irish music right now.
The amount of Irish bands making headlines in Glastonbury alone is massive.
But yeah probably Lizzy
My favorite band, have seen them from their first gigs in Dublin but think its a stretch to call MBV an irish band. The original line up was but they had to move to Berlin to get any traction. The existing line up formed in London. Half the members are English and they were always based there. They we're also almost entirely ignored by the Irish press throughout their career up until they reformed.
If this was asked on another sub about the greatest Irish band, there would be no question that it would be U2. There was no other Irish band that had the level of success and reinvention as U2, not to mention their career longevity.
But lots of people here will factor in other things to the decision and give an answer of basically anyone but U2.
Kerbdog were absolutely robbed of being in the big time. Released that second record at the wrong time it was way ahead of its time.
Also ill mention Wilt the U2-ish follow up to kerbdog didn't do well either
Fight Like Apes were great.
Undertones and Stiff Little Fingers.
Remember Turn?
The Chalets?
JJ72.
Funeral Suits.
Future Kings of Spain.
giveamanakick.
Warlords of Pez.
Sultans of Ping FC.
Whipping Boy.
Crayonsmith.
Jimmynomates.
Everybody would say U2 of course
I was a thin lizzy fan first..so they would be my favourite.Phil was THE most charismatic front man ever.
Live And Dangerous would be a contender for the best live rock album ever also.
The Undertones, The Pogues, Aslan, Horslips would be up there also in my list of best band.
✌️🥰🙏
For me, Thin Lizzy.
Thin Lizzy.

U2 Not my favourite Irish band of all time. But certainly the greatest Irish band of all time

Yeah people mistake favourite band with greatest band. Imagine a Leitrim fan saying they were the greatest football team.
The Stunning
Thin Lizzy or The Cranberries. Edit: Forgot about U2. They're objectively most successful.

Used to see the lead singer of FKOS on the Dublin Bus all the time. Their debut is a cracking album.
Some of them were very good and others good. None would be the greatest Irish band.
The chalets were class!
Greatest band band of all band?
Even though I’ll be downvoted, U2
The Saw Doctors!!! 🤠 "OH THE GREEN AND RED OF MAYO..."
It's The Dubliners or Whipping Boy for me.
U2
Jedward. It's not even a contest.
Ash gotta be on the list.
U2. Without a question. Second place is Thin Lizzy.
U2. 🫣
