Wasted years.
Cancer can be 50/50. You gotta make the best of what time you have left everyday. No point dwelling in the past and sullying the memories by thinking about regrets and could-have-beens. For me, that's what that song is about.
Dance of death, it essentially is a drunk man who borders on death and after the manic time with them he comes out vowing to never dance again until he's dead.
But I take that to mean be drunk enough to 'dance'.
You could easily replace the drunk part of it with cancer treatment and it's side effects.
And whilst it's seems like your playing with fire saying you're on deaths door, it's more a case of it's ok to feel this way but you can out dance the demons.
For comparison: Hallowed is actually being on deaths door and is not recommended.
I donāt think he was drunk. The song was referencing he had āone drink and no moreā to show he was of sound mind and body when he encountered the demon. To prove what happened to him was true.
I think this is mostly true, but I think the fact that he had one drink, rather than none, is there to suggest that while we can assume he was of sound mind, there is still a seed of doubt, and we can never really know for sure
I've never heard that theory but it definitely makes sense considering the thrashing that crocs do.
I've always just assumed drunk from being spiked or something like that.
Now listening to it and considering the album cover.
It could be a dog/wolf attack, they are more associated with hell as the lyrics refer towards.
Either way, and animal attack and a near death experience, seems the most plausible subject for the song.
Do some googling on Dance of Death, it is a medieval subject. Has Grim Reaper (death arrives to take your life on earth) overtones, which is what Eddie is portrayed as on the album cover. I canāt get anything to link, but this song is very similar Number of the Beast in which the character falls into trouble with death and demonic activity and he escapes to tell a tale of woe and horror. He also serves to warn others.
Itās a brilliantly told tale, I love it
Bruce Dickinson had throat cancer, and beat it to record Book of Souls, so that album is the mark of a cancer survivor. I wish your friend the best of luck.

But how did he get drunk from 1 drink and no more?
He was in the Everglades. Florida man
One drink, some bath salts, alligator oysters, and letās go

Isn't the fan theory that he was taken by an alligator and managed to escape and the song was a near death experience style hallucination?

Absinthe maybe?
Heaven can wait
Iāve been battling a brain stem tumor for the past 16 years and The Trooper has been my battle song.

2 Minutes To Midnight
Journeyman, probably.
Blood Brothers maybe? Or Co Estais Amigos perhaps?
