My dad bought a huge box of PS2 games from a yard sale, and it had Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Sly Cooper among them. I would replay these games day in and day out during my childhood.

GuaranteeAcademic457

Exactly like me replaying them never got old

DJCAE

You’re part of an elite group of people

WillLOTR

My mom bought me a PS2 for Christmas. She realized she also needed a game and some clerk sold her on Jak & Daxter. Christmas Day I opened them both up and the rest is history. Thanks mystery clerk!!!

GuaranteeAcademic457

Lmaoo it was written In stone

WhirlyDurlyGirly

But even the rocks do not recall

Dieselweasel25

Even the rocks do not recall.

TheGreaterOzzie

same for me, I didn’t ask for the game at all, but it ended up being my favorite series on the console

Michaelskywalker

Mystery clerk to your Mum “this game a banger fr trust”

TyrannusX64

I rented the precursor legacy at Blockbuster back in 2002 when I was in 5th grade. One of the best weekends of my life

GuaranteeAcademic457

Damn I could imagine

Rominbble

Jak and daxter trailer in the demo disc that came with the system - still hearing the music from the trailer

PeteryChavez

The demo disc of the original PS2, right?? Exactly the same with me! Too much nostalgia. Here is the music, try not to smile hearing it 🙂 https://youtu.be/gN_b1d5D1eY?si=e6kAY8vFA__tqBFo

Rominbble

Brings me back, such an innocent time!

Jean-Eustache

Oh damn I can still hear it too

beeperbeeper5

PS2 demo disk from a magazine with this and a demo for Ratchet and Clank. A bit after my dad came home with both games.

glez_fdezdavila_

The games belonged to my older brother so he probably had them before I had use of resson, so it's just one of those things that 'you always had'

BobSagieBauls

TPL was gifted to me and my sister Christmas 01 along with a ps2 and without a memory card I memorized the beach and jungle by heart and knew misty island pretty well too and could usually make it to rock village before bed time but not much further. The movie Atlantis with Micheal j fox came out around that time so the lost precursor city was so cool to me whenever I could make it there. Eventually we got a memory card and jak 2 was out by then but since it was rated T my mom wouldn’t buy it for me until eventually she said she would if I beat the first game so it became the first game I beat

Kamurjan

My uncle introduced me to jak 2. The first memory I have with the game is running away from the Crimson guard in the slums. I also accidentally deleted his save file once cuz I was too young to read haha. Also OP, PLS use punctuation marks haha.

Empyrean_Mokie

my mom was pregnant with me and my dad didn't want her to sit at home and feel like she couldn't do anything so he bought her a ps2 and the jak games. When I was old enough to pick up a controller, they introduced me to Jak 1

Davidt93

I got the first one when it came out because I loved Crash Bandicoot

TheGlaceonSoldier

A family member who own a PS2, I would buy a copy for myself many years later

Wtfgoinon3144

Christmas when i was 4 years old along with sly cooper

kingkong381

My first knowledge of Jak and Daxter was [this trailer that was on the demo disc that came with my PS2 when I was a kid.](https://youtu.be/xufjHYipgsU?si=0VXyjgm8x8E0j1Jb) The disc had a bunch of trailers and playable demos on it and that was one of them. Even at 7, I had a somewhat unique (some might say shit) taste in music, and I really liked the music used in the trailer, so I rewatched it a lot. And the game looked cool, too. My Dad must have made note of my interest because he got me Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy entirely unprompted for my 8th birthday.

anonerble

Demo disc

Chemical_Act9986

When I was young my dad used to play the game ans showed me how to play the game

lavender_jelly

Played Playstation Move Heroes and then Playstation All Stars. A few years later I saw that the Jak games were on sale on PSN and figured I might as well get them and the rest was history

the-real-jaxom

I know I was a kid when I played it but I don’t remember how old. What I do know is that when my kids become interested in video games, Jak and Daxter is AMONG the first game series they should complete before they can move onto other games. The exception to this is if they are more interested in Spyro. I want my kids to have to complete these adventure / battling / story / puzzle games before they ever step foot into anything similar to first person shooters. Once I have a kid (should be soon) I’ll probably actually type out each game they’re allowed to play, and assign them point values. Then when they’ve completed enough games and earned enough points, it’ll unlock the next tier of games for them that they can choose to play. It’ll be a lot fun kid games that have lots of good puzzles and solution finding games, which turns into more and more sophisticated games until they eventually reach the finger dexterity and reaction time to play other, more advanced games. Like Halo 1-reach. I expect this to take them from age like 5-6 when they get interested in video games and have the attention span for it, until they’re like 12 or so. Basically they’ll earn their way to more advanced games. But the Jak and Daxter series will be in one of the first groups.

dylandongle

I will say, before I was old enough to care about finishing the game, I do have fond memories of just running and swimming in the beach area as a little kid. Hated going to the beach in real life. Sentitive skin, too much effort, and saltwater is not as nice as pool water. So the Sandover Beach in the game is a memorable spot for me. Now I'm thinking, if I ever do a full replay, you better believe I'm finna roll around in that beach again.

V_j1109

My mom found jak and ratchet in a bargain bin at Hollywood video. Still play those copies to this day

Frosty_Can_6569

My brother went out to buy I Ninja and came back with jak and daxter due to the store owners recommendation

Astaro_789

Picked up Precursor Legacy during a Christmas vacation in 2002 at a Game store there. Still remember reading the amazing Manuel for that game made into a map over and over in anticipation of playing it when I got home. And the rest is history. Tied with Crash for the best gaming franchise Naughty Dog ever made

TalonHedgehog327

I was introduced to the game after my aunt’s daughter gave her PS2 and her game collection to me and the first game I pulled out of the basket of PS2 games was Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and that’s how I got introduced to the game and I still play it today even after 23 years since its release.

Qwe_Iop

My grandparents were massively into games especially in the PS1 and PS2 era, came home from school one day and my gran was playing precursor legacy, when I played it for the first time i was hooked straight away

Sebastianali123456

I bought a PSP 10 years ago more or less and it came with various games, Locoroco 2, Patapon 2, Modnation Racers, Secret Agent Clank and The Lost Frontier. Many said it could turn off people to try other games in the series, but ironically The High Impact Ratchet and Jak games made me wanted to try the rest of the series.

AG1k

My dad bought my brother and I a PS2. My dad made a good choice, and Jak TPL and THPS 3 were our first games.

Thebluespirit20

It was a Birthday gift , I couldn't wait to play it when I got home since my birthday party was at a local park looked like Crash bandicoot with a Saturday morning cartoon vibe

No-Instruction9393

I saw the game at Toys R Us for $20 and randomly bought it lol

Sparkletorch

Rented in xtra vision in 2001 just before Christmas, arrived from Santa with a new PS2 later that month!

Caolan114

The PS2 waa the next generation console and the team behind Crash Bandicoot had a new game

Xenozip3371Alpha

Can't remember, but I'm pretty sure I played Ratchet Gladiator before I even heard of Jak & Daxter.

FranticRichmond

I was probably around 10 or so, went to a friends house, and watched him play Jak 2 on his PS2. I was blown away by how cool it was. Ended up buying Jak 2 when I went away on holiday.

Informal-Bus-9679

I randomly spotted Jak II at a video rental store when I was maybe 8 years old and since my parents didn’t know of the age rating system they let me rent it. I later got it as an early birthday present from my grandma

Vinylmaster3000

Growing up we only had a PSP and that had Daxter, we also got Lost Frontier. Never grew up with a PS2 but I had a PS3, so that introduced me to the Jak and Daxter collection. Played that all the time growing up, still have it lying around.

longarms25

Christmas after it came out, mom got me a PS2 with this and wrath of cortex.

Kixema

I read about it in a game magazine in 2000 i think. it said it was the new Crash Bandicoot and I was a huge Crash Bandicoot fan on the ps1 At first I thought it couldn't be better then the "real new" Crash Bandicoot (The Wrath Of Cortex on PS2 lol) (I know, but I was 8 yo), but after buying a PS2 console Jak and Daxter was one of the first titles I bought. And yeah, Jak and Daxter >>> Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex, by far haha

ForsythePhD

The year was like... 2002? I would have been 4 at the time, my mom had a friend over and they brought their PS2, watched them beat Gol and Maia and I was just enamoured at a young age. My mom didn't want to buy me any games because she well, just didn't want to. So my grandma bought me my own PS2 when I was like 6 or so and she bought me J&D, took my smooth brain a year to beat it. Then she immediately bought she Jak 2 and told me to have fun. Took me an embarrassing amount of time to beat it.... almost 2 or 3 years... Small and smooth brain, as I said. Then she bought me Jak 3 and Jak X afterwards. Best grandma ever.

Suckmyunit42069

rented jak 3 from the video store one week and rented it over like 6 times. eventually just bought it

Violet_Scourge

When I was much younger, I watched my Uncle playing the first three games on his PS2. I almost immediately got sucked into the series’ lore. I would draw a lot of pictures of the characters. Years later, when I heard it was available for the PS4, I decided to get the collection to finally experience with myself in control . . . and yes, even to rage at specific parts.

RChickenMan

I'm a latecomer. I've been a Nintendo guy my whole life, but I recently acquired a handheld emulation device that's capable of playing PS2. I spent my first few months with it replaying my old favorite Wii and GameCube games, but then I decided to branch out and see what I've missed on the Sony side of things (answer: "a lot"). I googled "ps2 3d platformers," and here I am! TPL may very well be my favorite video game ever. I also loved 3 (I skipped ahead because II was just too difficult at first). After beating 3, I looped back to II, as 3 basically served as "practice," and I'm generally having a much better time with II now (though I'll admit that, unlike with TPL and 3, I'm using save states on certain missions).

CeJW

Honestly, I couldn’t tell ya, it just kind of existed for child me. lol

chinosays

My grandparents bought me a PS2 for my 5th birthday. They took me to GameStop to buy a few games aside from the one that came with the console (ATV Off-road Fury 2). I remember picking out Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy because it was colorful. Jak’s character model on the front cover looked really cool at the time and I just couldn’t get over how big the in-game world was. Mind you, this was back in 2003; games hadn’t been anywhere similar to Jak and Daxter. Then of course I saw a commercial for Jak 2 and my little child brain just melted at the sheer awesomeness I had witnessed. I was infatuated with Jak and Daxter, but I was in LOVE with Jak 2. I’ve loved the series since. Except TLF. Even when I was younger I thought it sucked. Just my opinion though, no hate towards its fans. Edit: I’d just like to add that I’m 26 now, and I hadn’t experienced Jak X until two months ago. What a weird edition to the series.

Unlucky_Buyer3982

A neighborhood friend let me borrow a copy of jak 2, the rest is history

vVerce98

I guess in 2004 I got a ps2, first games I received with it was ‘Sims Castaway’, ‘Jimmy Neutron : Attack of the twonkies’ & some fun race game (can’t find name of it :x). Some time after I went to the shop ‘Game Mania’ close to where I lived with my mom. Not too bit, but fun to walk around, I remember that there was some statue of Jak & Daxter, maybe Ratchet & Clank as well.. I was looking at some games of the ps2, and saw the Precursor one and the first Ratchet game. I always look at the cover and read the back for some information.. and the colours, etc really got my attention. I bought these two! And even today, I still love them! Ps. At some point I decided to sell 3 games… it was indeed my first three games I got, I ‘somehow’ hated myself (and still). Even if I didn’t got a lot of money from it, it could be perfect for pure nostalgia. I believe I have no ps2 games left today, will need to check some boxes. Also, my ps2 still works after +-19years.. crazy! Only the eye that reads the disc needs some help, have to out a book on it, but the chance it starts the game is like 3/10, most of the time it will go to ‘sd card’. :)

Shafeeq416

Bought jak 2 in Costco when it came out, had not played jak 1. Well I didn't buy it my mom bought it for me i.was 10

Masenko-beams

Found a greatest hits copy in the $20 and under pile in Costco back in 03-04 and it somehow managed the cart to register journey so many other potential games had failed. My parents must’ve been in a good mood. It’s crazy how I actually remember getting this game.

Bobb9y1

It was my first PS2 game when I got one for Christmas, I played it every day.. and when Jak2 was announced In a Game Informer magazine my friend had at the time, I LOST MY SHIT! I WAS SO EXCITED! Now here I am 34 years old still playing the original Trilogy. 😀

Dutch_guy_123

About 20 years ago when I was 10, I bought my PS2 bundled with 2 movies and 2 games. 1 movie was Spider kan 1 with Tobey Maguire, the games were Ratchet and Clank & Jak and Daxter; precursor legacy. Because of my lack of knowledge of English in that time, I was for a long time stuck on Geyser Rock and tried multiple times to swim to the main land. In that time, I happily played both games, both did not make any progress because I did not had memory cards. The memory cards came a few months later, I am not sure if it was hard to get one or if I was a stupid kid back then.

GingerWez93

I got the first game for Christmas in 2001 when I was 8. Pretty much got every game for a birthday or Christmas.

LearningCrochet

Had a rich older cousin who pretty much played everything. They had a bunch od random assortment of gamss lole the cod games, graffiti kingdom, all the Jax and Daxter ones, Shrek and Nemo, spiderman etc.

LightningPhoenix1998

Went over to my dad's house one day. Saw this game, popped it in, and was instantly hooked. First game I ever beat, first I ever 100%, and only game I ever tried (and failed) to speedrun.

yoYohi_23

Grandma bought it for me s/o my grandma handed me a gem without knowing

crystal-productions-

Square eyed jak. No joke, got invested in his old crash videos and just kinda started binging.

SnooBeans5314

3 sec snip from a random yt video

deeznunchuckas

I honestly don't know it showed up at my house one day and I loved it

Gardomirror

My big brother put a controller in my hands and said "here, play this" (tbh I don't know what exactly he said since I was only 3 or 4 years old). But I've been having fun gaming ever since.

Aspien_Thespian

Jak II came bundled with Gran Turismo 3 in our very first game console, a black Playstation 2. It wasn't until much later on that I actually took on and beat the game. Still have the games and the console to this day.

thedragoon0

Jak and Daxter came with my PS2.

eddmario

Got a PS2 for X-Mas in 2002. *Jak and Daxter* and *Ratchet and Clank* were some of the games we got alongside it.

inuyashee

My mom got me a PS2 from a flea market. Then I got Jak and Daxter from my dad that Christmas.

Jeff_theSnail

Ratchet and Clank fan since ‘06. Picked up the HD Jak and Daxter Collection on PS3 after seeing them in PS All Stars Battle Royale. Jak and Daxter was tons of fun. Jak II blew my mind. I fell in love with Sly Cooper the same way. Really wanna pick up Jak X somehow so I can continue the story though.

TNTBOY479

I have an older brother and i just saw The Precursor Legacy on our shelf and i asked him about it and he said "it's alright, worth a try" and ive never been so under-sold on something before or since

Educational_Block281

I was at a pawnshop with my grandma when I was 8 and I saw jak 3 I seen one of my friends older brothers play jak 2 a few years back and I recognized jaks face and I wanted to get it, paid 10 bucks and o played that game over 10 times it never got old

Shogun_Turnip

My brother got his hands on a demo disc (not sure where and I doubt he'd remember) that was in association with Tango (the UK fizzy drink brand). I remember it had playable demos of Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank and Sly Raccoon. It also had trailers, one of which being for Ape Escape 2. I don't remember the others. Edit: It was called Tango: Game On 1. The other trailers were for Pac-Man World 2 and War Of The Monsters.

-SuperCircus-

Had the big ol’ brick PS2 and Jak & Daxter happened to be one of the games my parents bought for me and I fell in love with the series when I was about 5 years old, now 28 years old 🤘🏻still listen to the soundtrack from time to time too

Correct-Ball4786

I was a kid when jak and daxter came out, and several.of my friends had it. I got to borrow it from them and play it, never got to beat it tho.

Crazyjay58

My dad took me to EB Games back when the game first launched and told me that I could pick two games and I remember seeing a commercial for Jack and daxter and ratchet & clank and Sly Cooper. Before I knew that these would be the big three of PS2 I had to make a choice back then. I picked Jack and daxter and ratchet & clank and I've replayed them so many times ever since. I even still have the old memory card with all the games 100% complete on them. The only thing I'm mad about that I didn't know had happened when the Jack X copies were corrupting the games I didn't know that they were offering a send back thing and I ended up getting another game from Walmart and having to buy a new memory card and they made me buy the game again didn't just swap the game out. If only I knew back then lol.

Select-Ideal3877

Got it for Christmas alongside my ps2

d7oor

I saw a trailer for the game and was like this is cool I want it. It was one of the first games I got for the PS2 and the first one I ever played when I booted up the console. I had so many great memories with it and it is by far one of the best games I ever played. It still holds up today too both technically and graphically.

CrowCounsel

Somebody who worked on the game was married to one of my dad’s cousins and I had talked to him at a family reunion and so I bought it when it came out. Loved it, one of the first really great games for the PS2.

enhanced195

I saw commercials for it when i was 6/7ish, and christmas 2002 i got it as part of a ps2 bundle (along with Sly Cooper and Gran Turismo 3)

MrMcDonaldz

When I was a kid my dad's friend let me borrow games he didn't play anymore, I would try them out then give them back when I was done with them and get another game, I remember I kept Rayman and Spyro for a while but when I got Jak and Daxter I just fell in love, the art design, the music, the sounds and controls just blew me away, it's been my favourite game ever since. I used to play it for hours at a time because we didn't have a memory card for our PS2 so I would see how far I could get into the game without being able to save, furthest I ever made it was Snowy mountain after a full day of playing, I remember looking at the physical map that came with the game all the time wondering what the ending would be like :P When I finally got a memory card around a year later, Jak II had just released so I played Precursor Legacy every day until I got 101% before asking my parents for the sequel for Christmas. This series was my childhood and still my gaming home/happy place.

Threaldjb01

Played Jak 2 at a friend's house Asked my parents for the game for my BDay, got me TPL instead Was confused and abit upset at first but it ended up being my fav of the series till this day

NayrSeivad94

It was my first PS2 game, I had no idea what it was. I had no idea it was the same people who made Crash Bandicoot and I had absolutely no idea how to use a controller with Analog sticks so I had no idea how to move 😅 but once I figured that out I had a great time 😂 For Jak II I remember being told a second one had come out but I didn't know how to get it (I was 9) the one day on a holiday in Tenerife my dad wanted to buy a video camera so we went into a tech store and while my Dad was talking to guy trying to sell him a camera I spit Jak II: El Renegado and beg my Dad to buy it, he said no and then my dad he didn't want a video camera either. Then the shopkeeper said " If you buy the camera I'll throw in the game for the boy" and my Dad agreed, I was so excited and spent the rest of the holiday basically clutching onto the box waiting to get home so I could play it. If it wasn't for the shopkeer guy I probably wouldn't be as much of a gamer as I am now so I am forever grateful.

TheCrimsonBrain

I was a wee lad when it first released. My father bought it as a gift for my two brothers and I and we would have loads of fun taking turns playing. The controller changing hands after a life was lost. We lost our collective minds when jak 2 and 3 released. It took us a year to finish jak 2 because we were so terrible at the mission that required us to run from the hellcat cruisers or whatever they were called. I was so sad when we finished jak 3. There were a lot of happy memories made with my brothers I never wanted it to end. As an adult I have collected all 4 of the collectors editions as well as the mock up of jak 4. They are the pride of my many collections and I hope one day to share these games if I ever have kids.

meganfucklife

I honestly can't remember the first time I played any of them except jak X. I was born in 97 and I guess my parents just happened to pick them up? And immediately my little sister and myself were OBSESSED with them. Those were the good ole days of sharing a game file and playing at the same time by switching who was playing every death/mission/30-45 minutes. But we were kids and never actually got past the first quarter of any of the games for the longest time. I definitely love having developed the muscle memory for them so when I was like 12/13 and decided to actually beat them all I was what I considered badass lmao (I'm not "good" at games, I just play for fun/plot). When I finally 100% tpl and beat 2&3 my mind was fucking blown And jak X I remember being so excited when my dad randomly brought it home and was so confused by it. We didn't have internet until like 2012, so I had no idea there was another game, wtf combat racing was, or about daxter/tlf for years lmao

Professional-One-580

Older Sister had the original trilogy. Was the first game(s) I liked enough to try and finish them. Still love them to this day. The very games that started my journey as a gamer.

Spare_Reality_3311

I believe it came packaged with my PS2, I was young so my grandma got my neighbor Jordan to come over and show me how it worked and yes I got stuck on the fishing mini game

McSkiddies

Around 2016 I think? I was 16 at the time and had missed out on a lot of classic platformers growing up, so I decided to give games like Jak, Ratchet and Sly and shot. Needless to say, I fell in love with all of them and I still find them very enjoyable to play through every now and then, even if I don't have that childhood nostalgia.

Obsessed_Brer

Well hello not my Instagram friend who got me started on Conker 😂

Drago-Skullblade

It was a really hot day so Mum said I could stay home if we promised to do some chores, after doing some cleaning my brother found the PS2 & games that we thought had been lost. So after he plugged it all in he started to play Jak & Daxter, since it was the first time I ever saw this ‘new’ game I asked if I could play & that’s how I got introduced

PadawanAmy

It's been so long, even the rocks do not recall.

derpums

my first console was the ps2, with it, I had: Jak and Daxter, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sly 2.

Bizarre_Luck

I attended a slumber party when I was 8 circa 2003, we all watched the host play TPL. I don't even remember seeing more than the tutorial island but it looked really appealing. Couple years later when I got my own ps2 this was one of the games I just had to have. Big cornerstone of my childhood too.

PointsOfXP

I so wish I remember. I just had Jak and Daxter. Always did. Always loved the game. I could tell you about every other game that has touched my life but not Jak And Daxter. It's just part of the greater mystery of the game for me

Rocktalon

Half brothers step kids got it as a gift at our house. After a little my dad got me a PS2 with like, Antz extreme racing on it? And then one day after school 1st grade he handed me J&D TPL when I got in the truck. Forgot to put my seatbelt on for 15 minutes I was so excited.

EllipticSand

My aunt bought herself a ps2 and this game. She didn’t end up liking it so I played it instead.

Minecraftnoob247

Playstation all Stars Battle Royale as a Christmas present for me and my younger brother in 2013. It was so fun playing the game that we didn't notice my cousins, aunt and grandma on my father's side of the family started arguing and being angry at each other the whole evening and night. We didn't know about this until a few years later, so we thought everyone had a fun Christmas. My father says that it was one of the worst Christmases of his life, but that he was happy that at least we had fun. However, I didn't buy any Jak and Daxter games until a month ago when I bought The Jak and Daxter trilogy a week before my exam to get a certificate of apprenticeship. I passed the exam with flying colors, and had a very fun Easter holiday playing through Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (was planning on playing all the games, but I had to help my parents with work around the house and stuff).

Dhehjob9-5

Rented it from blockbuster when it was new as a kid

Left4dinner2

Rented it from Blockbuster after getting good grades on my report card. Pretty sure I was in 4th grade but it's been so long I forget exactly

Vanity_Fan

was playing at a local tech store, loved every min of playing it and it was about 15mins

Quick-Highway-9310

Rented it from movie gallery, my mom used to take me every Friday after school to rent a game for the weekend, good times

Haunting-Pop-5660

I got a Ps2 when it first came out, and alongside Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, I eventually got a few others such as Sly Cooper and Jak & Daxter. This had to have been when I was... Yeah, about 6 years old. 22 years ago now. My dad and I would take turns playing through the overworld/levels, trying to understand the game. We never got very far, maybe up to Misty Island. Eventually I played it on my own and 100%'d it. It was a really great time, and I'll always remember it fondly. I do have fucking Thalassophobia because of the stupid shark in the water though. Poor 6 year old me hated heartbeats, hated water, hated sharks and hated any remotely fucky sound that could be tied back to underwater critters. Suffice it to say, the opening to Finding Nemo was horrifying because of this damn game. That's how I was introduced to it and a lifelong fear.

CharlyXero

When I was like 7-8 yo, my father bought a PS2 with Ghost Hunter and Jak 2. The bank offered my father a promotion for it and although he didn't know much about consoles, he thought we could get some fun with it. And oh boy, he was so damn right. More than 20 years later and still playing Jak and Daxter and other videogames Btw, for those that don't know about Ghost Hunter, give it a try. It's an underrated gem

Random_Souls_Fan

It was my 4th or 5th birthday, I forget which, my dad bought it and a first generation PS2 for me. We ended up loving it and playing the trilogy together.

Spez_Spaz

It was a birthday gift from my parents along with a Ps2. I was around 6 or 7 when I got it. Lifelong of memories since

basedrew

I was probably 8 years old and at a neighborhood block party. A ton of the kids were hanging in the basement and TPL was on the big screen. Watched somebody play it for a while and eventually got a turn. Was hooked immediately haha.

dethlord_youtube

Jak 2. My friend had it. Was really fun. I still to 5his day cannot play jak 1, I fund it boring and repetitive :(

fallingdebris101

Got the PS2 bundle that came with that game and Gran Turismo

-valt026-

Oh man, that village at the beginning of Jak & Daxter is one of my all time favorite video game moment and location. It’s just a quaint, cool place to run around in. And I always know when I step into it I’m about to play one of my favorite games. To answer your question, I was a child when the original PlayStation came out. I started out on SNES but was so young, PS1 was when I really started to get it. And my first game on that console was Crash Bandicoot, so following Naughty Dogs game catalog was just a no brainer for me. But Jak & Daxter came at a time in life where it was just perfect, it’ll continue to hold a very special place in my heart forever.

Legendary-Icon

My dad had a cousin with a PS2 I would play that a lot when we visited. They must’ve bought the bundle that came with Jak and, I wanna say Gran Turismo 3, I wasn’t really into racing games, so that was the alternative. The rest is pretty much history.

Ringer_Jay513

When I was around 5 I just got a ps2 and I only had 2 games, which were spyro 3 and KingdomHearts 1... I was at Hollywood videos looking at the covers of the games in the video game section. I saw Jak and Daxter, and I liked nature and Jaks looks, so I got it. Played it every day for the next 2 years. It was my escape from the abuse and racism. I memorized everything in the game and beat it in a speedryn with roll jumps, uppercut etc in roughly 3hr 20 mins average. That's why u beat it 200 times. It was my happy place. When my life got worse with violence and death.. Jak 2 came out, and I went to it, of course, to see my Hero Jak and be happy.... so Jak 2 was a shock and essentially traumatized me, which was perfect. I saw my Hero corrupted and imperfect at the same time I dealt with it, and it helped me mature. If it wasn't for that, I may have chased comfort, safe spaces, and nostalgia for the rest of my life.

liftoffsavage

I got it for Easter when I was younger. Loved it instantly.

lowtier4life

When I was a little, don't remember the exact age, I went to my uncle's house to stay the night. My cousins had just gotten a ps2 and were playing Jak and Daxter on it. The game enamored me instantly. Until then the only video games I'd seen were baby games on ps1 (Dragon tales hide and seek and Elmo's number adventure) and Gameboy games (a very broken pokemon red my older brother gave me that could not save) and due to this I hadn't thought much about video games. That changed with Jak and Daxter. I begged to play it and every time I cam over to my uncle's (who's name is hilariously enough Jack), all I wanted to do was play Jak and Daxter. That Christmas I ran out at like 5 am to look under the tree and saw a ps2 with Jak and Daxter on it. I honestly can't remember what other games I got, they did not matter to me in the slightest lol. Been a life long gamer since. Still have that ps2, my Jak games and still regularly go back and play the games to this day.

Rab_Legend

I got the ps2 for my birthday/Christmas the year it came out, and jak and daxter was a game my parents must have picked to go with it. I hadn't asked for the ps2 I remember, cause I was only like 6/7 years old and had no idea it existed.

Oka-7

A demo disc that had king kong ratchet and clank deadlock and Jak X

Animeguy38

Growing up my family wasn't too well off. My uncle who was still living with my grandma had a ps2 with a random set of games. Whenever grandma would baby sit me and he wasn't home i would sneak off and play it. At the time he had jak and daxter on it and so i made a second save file. I got so invested as it was my first game ever and i was just in awe as to what the world was and the characters and daxter. Every time i went over I'd play it if he wasn't there. Looking back he probably noticed my save and left the game on there whenever he went out. Father took notice of me playing it and saved whatever money they had to get me a ps2 on my birthday. At the same time that same uncle gave me the game as a gift. I think a mix of event irl and it being my first game just left a strong impression on me. To this day i still replay that game every other year or whenever im feeling down.

Kuruma_akujin

Daxter and then the last time frontier. Yep. by the psp! Even tough i had a ps2. never played the originals until opengoal

CODninjarin

At Toys R Us with my grandparents. And employee recommended the series, but talked about how the second one had a lot of suggestive stuff in it so my grandparents only got me the first.

T2Ramonne

One day a friend brought Jak 3 along to play on PS2. We couldn’t stop so next thing I did was run out to buy a copy and obsessively play through the game from there onwards lol

ci22

Saw a commercial as a kid of Jak II and saw the familiar Naughty Dog logo. Was like this dude spins like Crash Bandicoot It was cool to see a platfomer so edgy. IDK how but the order I played the games are Jak 3>Jak 2> Jak 1

Michaelskywalker

My dad used to buy me used game from GameStop like once a week. It was so cheap back then man. Literally just a straight banger game for like 12 bucks.

MistorClinky

My Dad playing Jak 2 on the PS2 when I was 4 or 5. It's the first video game I can remember.

Maxy97265

Christmas 2001. My oldest cousin who lived with me got a PS2 from his parents with GT3 and J&D. He wouldn't let me play the game but he couldn't beat the fishing mini-game so he let me try it. I failed but then my father stepped in and SMOKED the challenge with a perfect score. My father hates videogames and that is the only instance EVER he played one.

Zowiezo101

There was a Dutch television program called Gammo. About 15 years ago they made a section about Jak 2 and I just fell in love with the game. Later on their website I saw a banner of Jak 3, wanted to know what the game was and learned it was Jak 3. From that moment on I decided to save for the PS2, buy the games and became a very big fan!

rpgthebest

A game magazine contained a disc with demos for many new games, one of which was Jak 3. I played a lot that demo and then I decided to buy the game. And then I also bought Jak 2 and finally Jak 1, although I beat Jak 2 the last (for obvious reasons🤣).

Daruk-ion

When I was 5 my parents got a ps2 with a demo disk for christmas. The disk had a lot of games like ratchet and clank and jak 2. I think it was the mission to find Vin and you had access to that area. My parents obviously took notes because for my birthday a few months later got my brother and I Ratchet and Clank 2 and Jak 2.

c4ptain_fox

When I was 8 my best friend participated to a small raffle organized for an open day at school, he won Jak & Daxter on PS2 and we spent hours playing that game, we obviously finished it and ran for the two, then the 3, all 100% finished, it was some of the greatest memories of my life 😁

silver-i10

I first played TPL on a PS2 at an indoor child's play area, in 2002 when I was 7 or 8. I got TPL for Christmas 2002 and got Jak 2, Jak 3, Jak X and Daxter, in the following years, as they released.

GhoulDash97

I got Jak and Daxter for Christmas 2001 alongside Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec and the PS2 my mom gave me. The game was amazing and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

OfficialMSK7

My Dad bought us a PS2 Bundle that came with Motorstorm: Artic Edge & Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier.. Yep, I started out playing that game and loved it! Of course I had no standards when I was like 8 or 9 but I didn't let it detract from the fact that I played it wayyyy more than Motorstorm lol After that I picked up The Precursor Legacy and the rest is history!

Skinnybenjumea

It was my first game ever, my dad bought a ps2 with lot of games and the day he gave the whole pack to me he took me to the local game store and then I bought Jak and daxter. One of my favourite all time games

LordFrieza_

Playstation.

GuaranteeAcademic457

😂😂😂

StinkLord5

One of the reasons I wanted a PS2 back in 2001.

MegaDan94

I was given Jak X as a present, liked it, thought I'd pick up Daxter since I just got a PSP and liked Jak X, liked it too, so I thought I'd buy the whole series since I liked two Jak games so far. This was before The Lost Frontier, so I thought the entire series was great.

BiggBknob

I got it for Christmas when it came out on PS2

Itchy_Equipment_

Christmas 2004, dad bought a PS2 and Jak II was one of the games he picked up with it. I didn’t play TPL until years later… around 2016

[deleted]

My Dad played it when i was a toddler , i used to watch his gameplay

Jydolo

When I was like 5 or 6 I played Daxter on a relative’s PSP and I loved it so much that my parents bought me a PSP for my birthday, which was also the first console that was actually mine.

XanderNightmare

Ah, the memories. I was a wee kid, 5 or 6 just got my PS2. Back in the days, I still needed games that didn't have written text, since I couldn't read. simpler times. I picked it up at a store because it looked fun. And it was Then I got Jak 2 gifted as a Christmas present the following year... That was some tonal whiplash

Fatal_Feathers

For Christmas one year parents got me a ps2. With ut came Crash Bandicoot's Wrath of Cortex, Jak and Daxter Precursor Legacy, Medal of Honour Rising Sun and a couple others. Their idea was to give me a couple games they figured I'd enjoy (Crash and Jak, as I loved fantasy/adventure) and also a couple games I may not usually pick to broaden my experiences (the racing game and MoH). Yeahhh...played 2 minutes of MoH. Bit of Crash. Utterly glued to Jak. Loved it ever sincd

SorryManNo

I went to my aunt’s apartment to spend the night (getting babysat) and her boyfriend (now my uncle) had a the new PlayStation 2 and with it Jak and Daxter. I remember beating the first 2 areas that night. I begged my mom for a ps2 all year for one and that xmas I was surprised to find a ps2 and a copy of Jak and Daxter under the tree. I was 8 years old. I also got my first pocket knife that year and cut my hand really badly opening a pack of ps2 memory cards. I will remember this until the day I die and I have the scar to remind me should I start to forget.

TNovix2

I think I picked it up from some GameStop shortly after it released, was too young to remember specifics. I actually just started it back up via PS Plus and these memories are just flooding in

KowalOX

I skipped the first Jak & and Daxter because I was in college and was stupid and thought the game looked like it was "fOR KidS." I rented Jak2 from Hollywood Video because the futuristic, cyberpunkish reimagining of the setting looked cool and interesting, along with them adding some GTA elements to the gameplay. I returned my rental the next day and immediately drove to BestBuy to buy my own copy and was at the midnight release for Jak3. The series became one of my all-time favorites and one that I still revisit occasionally to this day.

Adam_Cty

Older brother got me into a lot of things. I played PS3 trilogy and that was the 1st game I remember ever playing

ComfortableProgre55

Wanted Rachet and Clank originally but it was sold out so my Father bought Jak and Daxter instead. Jak and Daxter became my favourite games series of my childhood and I particularly played Jak 2 to death over and over again. Not many other games have ever gotten close to my obsession and continued love of this series. When I did get round to playing ratchet and clank it never hit the same way this series did. It’s funny how things like that work out.

Dr_Chibi

My dad hunted many psPlus games on his ps3 and jak and daxter was among them, like sly cooper and simce i didnt know any games besides minecraft my dad said i should try those, and iam glad he showed me those games

UltraMillerV2

My biological father who left me years ago. In fact he is the one who introduced me to gaming as a whole. It was Jak 3, it was the coolest game ever, it had the coolest hero of all. Jak 3 is still my favourite to this day.

Ok_Appointment_9215

Back in the day I would see the Jak and Daxter commercials on Cartoon Network with Jak looking cool and Daxter yapping away, but I didn't have a PS2, never had a PS1 either. One day, and my dad was very random like this always, our decided to take my little brother and i to a giant store, to get a Play Station 2, and it just so happened to include a bundle of two games, one of those was Jak and Daxter. So yes, my first Play Station game, ever, was Naughty Dog's Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy. I was 10 or 11 when it came out, so as the games came out, I grew up along with Jak, I love those games to death

samball404

It was the TV commercial... "stay furry... save the world... choices!" I saw it and instantly got intrigued. An action video game with a comedic edge, just sounded cool. I wasn't wrong. lol

ConversationFit5024

My first PS2 Games were Jak and Dax and Grand Turismo 3: A-Spec

LightBen

I got a Jak II demo. Two levels, one normal and one with the JETBOARD. Loved it. Then got Jak II, then Jak 3. I tried Jak 1 but couldn't go too far, didn't like the gameplay much. Twice. I might try TLF now.

Infinitus9

Nabbed a copy of Jak 3 back in '05 at EB Games in my local mall, which had closed since last year in September (before they changed to Gamestop and after they were brought out) and after playing it I was so hooked. Then brought Jak 2 at Blockbuster, and awhile after that, Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy at Gamestop and played after Sunday school at night. Didn't get Jak X when it came out due to the $39.99 price point at the time for a new copy, but I got all three, pre-owned for $15 to $19.99. Essentially, I played the series backwards! 😅 Then, when the PSP released, I wanted Daxter so badly that my mom eventually got me the PSP Daxter bundle mid-2008, and it was the 2000 model, silver colorway, and it had the Family Guy Freakin Sweet Collection UMD with it. So yeah. Bottom line, I freaking love this series. Got into Ratchet & Clank around the same time along with Sly Cooper (I brought the first at Blockbuster, then Sly 2: Band of Thieves brand new for $20 at Best Buy, then finally Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves at Gamestop in order). I played R&C 2: Going Commando first (🤣), then the first game, the 3rd one, and Deadlocked all brought at Gamestop. I got into all these PlayStation greats through a Jampack Demo disc, which was Vol 13! It was actually one of two of my very first PS2 games (the other was Sonic Heroes as I was very into the blue blur) and for a console as I've been a PC gamer since I was little on my dad's old IBM Aptiva PC with Windows 97, he even taught me how to install it when I was 6 or 7) Not only it introduced me to Jak, Ratchet and Sly, but also the Burnout series with Burnout Revenge (got Burnout 3, still the best one in the series!) Shadow of the Colossus (a phenomenal game btw, but I had no idea what I was doing at the time when I played it around 7 years old), which my brother eventually played nearly a decade later and played the remaster! I had a GREAT run with the PS2! So glad to have the privilege of experiencing Sony's best decade!

lilmikeyj93

The 1st was one on my 1st ps games my dad got me

NGSkel

Traded my cousin tak and the great juju challenge for Jak 2. Told my mom about it cus she had gotten the ps2 and precursor legacy. She never finished the game before she died. On the 5th anniversary of her death, I sat and played precursor legacy start to finish and got the platinum trophy on ps4. With the release of lost frontier.. I can say I have all but jak x platinumed in honor of her and for showing me a passion for video games and trophy hunting.

LukaHalliwell

I saw a trailer for the game and I knew I needed it

Old-Change-3216

I went to buy DBZ budokai 1 on the PS2 (my time ever buying a PS2 game) and the guy behind the counter said, "If you like fighting games, then you will love this game!" I ended up loving the game, but to this day I wonder what that guy was smoking. Jak and Daxter ain't no fighting game lmao.

xSamborghinix

I still remember it fondly. My mom took my brother and I to toys r us and we ran straight to the R Zone. And there it was a PS2 kiosk running Jak and Daxter. I was drawn to it with the music and colorful characters. Got to play the demo and was hooked after that. Got a PS2 for my birthday that year and loved every second of that game. I still go back and play it every few years. My favorite game still to this day and would love a remake or sequel.

GibbonFunni

Played Jak 3 at my cousins and stole it lol at about 13 years old

Oni-Kun18

My mom got me the game back in like 2003 along with several others and been hooked ever since. Even replayed it on PS4 for my gaming Channel.

Jaythamalo13

First game I got with my PS2 in 2001

dautolover

My mom got me a PS2 with Gran Turismo 3 and Jak and Daxter. What's funny is that I was a GT since GT1, and I didn't touch Jak and Daxter for months, as I passed GT3. And then I got to Jak and Daxter, and man, was it amazing.

Glass_Teeth01

Got a copy for Christmas.

GulfGiggle

I was only like 4 at the time I got the first game, so I’m pretty sure my mom asked my older cousins or the dude at our local game store what a good game to get was. I don’t think I picked it personally because I wasn’t even like, “oh this was by the team that did crash” because I distinctly remember not realizing that until the opening title sequence.

God-O-Death

I had 20 bucks saved up as a kid and picked it up from a bargain bin at Circuit City for like 10 bucks, it was the first ever game I got to pick out for myself since my older brother only had like GTA, FIFA and other mature games lol. I was so excited cause looking at the cover it looked sick! And it turns out I picked a good one

Michaellucifer20

2 and 3 were my introduction

Angeal36

My dad was really into video games when the ps2 was around and he was super excited that this would be a cool game me and him and my younger brother could play together. He was right

rjkade

a demo disc from a gaming magazine my dad had bought that also had ratchet and clank on it as well. i think it may have had rez on it too

gods_bong_water

almost 21 now and i can’t even tell you HOW i was introduced just that Jak and Daxter was the first game i remember playing on the first console my parents got me as a kid (a ps2 for me and my older brother when i was like 4) and i remember needing his help on the zoomer over lava canyon or getting stuck in the rising eco under the lost temple

JackfruitAutomatic65

Borrowed it from Blockbuster. Loved it so much and played it every day even though I didn’t have a memory card yet lol. The furthest I got was Rock Village. Later my parents bought it for me, along with a memory card, and it became my favorite game.

hphlazy2

I can't remember if I rented it first or got it out right actually I know I read about it in playstation magazine

UnZki_PriimE

I got a PS2 and some random games from a guy my mom was dating, I remember playing on my old boxy tv and having to turn off sound when entering the jungle because the music would scare me lmao

nopizzatime

That one ps3 game with sly, jak, and ratchet. It's been YEARS since I played it so I forgot the name

TheKiwiTimeLord

Mum wanted to get us a DVD player, and decided on getting a PS2 as thrn we could have games too. The PS2 she bought us came with TPL and Grand Turismo 3. We (mum and I) sat there punching the bison for ages cracking up laughing at how silly it was. Played so much TPL, but I didn't get a memory card for a while so the PS2 just stayed on until we bought one 🤣. Was hooked after that, bought 2 and 3 on release.

MistarX

I was probably 7-8 yrs old. Sometimes my mom took me to a friend who had TPL. He called it “Jak and White”, don’t ask me why. I was amazed by this blonde guy with a red pet running around on the beach collecting orbs. I had to wait until I was like 11-12 yrs old to get a PS2 and finally become one of the greatest fan on earth. I’m 28 now but I still remember the burning desire I had for the game. I perfectly remember my friend’s room and the way he played.

Finnigan-roverfield

There was a PS2 at my grandmas growing up and id always watch my brother play alongside sly cooper, for some reason i dont remember watching him play Ratchet and clank.

Worried_Example

There was either a demo or a video of it that came with a ps2 magazine.

kaetror

It was my first (and *only* for a while) PS2 game when I got the console for Christmas as a kid (either 2001 or 2002). Played it absolutely loads and begged for Jak 2 when it released.

soweke3

Got a PS2 slim for Christmas in 04, came with Jak 2 and Grand Turismo 3, still have the original game and case for both lol, but after me and my brothers played Jak 2 we purchased Jak and Daxter Precusor Legacy from the pawn shop then later on we got Jak 3 and Jak X

lxrdfranky

my brother had jak 2 and i couldnt get past the mission you have to enter the fortress

Helpful-Werewolf-616

My aunt!! She was the coolest. Got me and my siblings hooked on jak & daxter, crash, and ratchet & clank ❤️

Hoenn_Rival95

My parents bought me a PS2 bundle for Christmas back in either 01 or 02. It came with Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank. 2 controllers and a red and blue memory card. First 2 games I ever played on my ps2. I always loved Jak and Daxter ever since. I remember opening it and setting on the living room floor playing it all day that Christmas. I still have that same PlayStation hooked up right now and have my original copy of jak and Daxter and it still plays. My ratchet and clank is too scratched but I always kept it even after it quit working.

Substantial_Ad3788

I completed Jak II first. I got it at Game Crazy with birthday money because the employee recommended it when I bought Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. Then I traded in some other games at my local Game Crazy for Jak & Daxter. I miss Game Crazy.

Present_Carry_8014

My parents got me a random big name game for Easter when I was young and I loved it. Same thing for Ratchet and Clank.

Potential_Pack_9711

2002, I just turned 9 and got b-day money. Enough for one game. My dad took me to Funcoland, and I probably spent 20 minutes walking up and down the ps2 section. My dad grabbed Jak and Daxter randomly and said, "How about this?" Hooked ever since.

Th3-B0uld3R

My aunt bought Jak 2 for my brother for Christmas when it came out, he gave it to a friend of his and forgot about it and one day after a couple months, I was at his friend’s house and he wasn’t playing it so he gave it back to me and I started playing it and when I saw the Game Informer Magazine at Walmart advising Jak 3 I convinced my grandma to get Jak and Daxter for me because at that point it was 20 bucks and found the game hard at first but I eventually learned and started loving it.

EvergreenEvolved

Gaming magazines used to read them a lot back in the day and saw and add for game, saw it in the store one day and got it

Due_Hawk6749

My parents got the Jak and Daxter/Gran Turismo ps2 bundle from Costco for me and my siblings for Christmas. I think I just turned 6 right before. My siblings and I would pass the controller back and forth, but our turns were usually quick unless someone was "in the mode." I remember having to go to my last day of kindergarten after watching my oldest brother play a little that morning (we did half days for kindergarten, like 3 hours starting at noon), and he kept it paused so we could watch him beat it. 20ish years later, my friend and I just pass the controller back and forth while playing the OG 3. It makes it easier when one person controls the d-pad and another for the symbol buttons for events like whack a mole haha.

boiwitdebmoji

i remember when i finally gained consciousness, i screamed "i can see!!?" and kingdom hearts was already on the tv, jak and daxter was under the kingdom hearts case so i just popped it in and loaded into Rock Mountain (no idea how i got to Rock Mountain as a 4 year old), went basically my entire life up until i got the ps pass like 4 years ago thinking jak 2 was the last game

Beastycus

I remember picking up jak 2 from GameStop. I asked a bunch of stupid questions like “are his ears really that big” and other random questions to the point the GameStop worker was making fun of me. (I was real young) Favorite trilogy to this day hands down

Zarvanis-the-2nd

Early-2000s rental stores and Jak 1.

Few-Concentrate-7558

It was 2006 I believe when I got the ps2 for my birthday and a copy of jak 2. Of course me being only 9 and having no patience whatsoever I quit cause I didn’t know where to go (again I was 9 with no patience so calm down) a couple years later I played jak 3 and had a much better experience and then my ps2 crapped out didn’t play another jak and daxter game again till 2020 when the collection came out on ps4

TantraTurtle

Around Christmas, I would start to sit in front of the TV and write down every commercial for a toy or product I wanted, regsrdless of price or if I would even play with the toy, I liked collecting. I remember writing down a Tak and the Power of JuJu game. That Christmas or my birthday (January 6th), I received a gift that I knew was a video game box, and I was excited to see what I got. Turned out my mom didn't remember exactly the name for Tak, but she picked up Jak 2 (honestly close enough for someone in her mid-50s having no interest in gaming). I remember being very confused because I had never heard of "Jak" let and had no idea what Jak 2 was about. Jak 2 turned into one of my all-time favorite games for PS2. I wish I had a way to figure out how many hours I put into that game, so many fond memories.
