While waiting for the bus on a hot day, I saw a guy in his 50s watering some plants in front of his house with a hose. Then another guy wearing a suit approached before being greeted with おかえり by the guy with the hose. After exchanging the stereotypical 暑いね the guy with the hose started to playfully spray some water on the other guy before kissing him. It was by far the cutest lover's exchange I've ever seen in my life.
Witnessed a mom obviously sending her young kid on their first errand at a farmer's market. She was not-so-inconspicuously hiding to watch as a child who was maybe three years old toddled forward with their little money pouch to one of the stalls.
Bitter sweet cute moment. I’m driving home and stop at a red signal. I see a high school aged couple holding hands I felt moved by the young love. Then, a bird drops a big shit right on their hands. He had his hand over hers so I assume he took the entire hit.
I'm convinced all birds are just full of hate towards humans. I think maybe they're still upset about their dinosaur ancestors no longer being in charge of the earth.
LOL, I embarrassed the hell out of a HS girl once (my bad...). She was walking home in the rain and the wind suddenly turned her umbrella inside out, we were sitting at a red light in the work truck and I just lost my shit laughing and I guess she heard me...
In Yokohama, there's a cruise ship(I don't know the name) and it was leaving and this little kid said "バイバイ👋" It was cute. Near where I live, there's a few schools. Seeing the little herds of kindergarteners with the matching hats is always a cute moment too.
The kids with their little hats gets me each time! Years ago I went to the Osaka aquarium at the same time as two or three groups of them, watching them stare at the fishies was magical. Was near a school last time too, I crossed paths with the same little group twice in the morning and they would all great me!
I meant, Japanese children are so cute, bright and cheerful that I get sad imagining how how gloomy and glassed-eyed they'll become as soon as they'll step into high school, not to speak when they will find themselves facing adulthood.
On my way to work, there is a multigenerational family that lives in an apartment. As their kid/grandson goes to school in the morning, three of them hang out of windows on multiple levels waving and the ojichan waves a broom in the air. Gets me every time. (the feels, not the broom)
If there is some bloke with the name of McDonald down under, do you call him Maccas too?
I have a feeling you folks down under like Maccas more than us Americans.
Came out of the sweet shop this evening after three high school boys (probably 14/15 years old). They did the "せい〜の!" thing and revealed their purchases from their pockets.
It made me chuckle and cheered me up.
Saw a father and his 3-year-old son walking in Yotsuya. Son saw a typical building guard in uniform and called out, 頑張って!The father whispered in his ear and the son called out again, 頑張ってください!
It was a small thing, but my icy heart thawed a bit that day.
My 3yo son is half. He looks 100% American, but at heart he’s 100% Japanese. He always wants to play with older kids. I’ve seen some really sweet interactions with older kids. One time he really wanted to play soccer with some kids ranging probably about 12-14 if I had to guess. I was holding him back and trying to get him away from the field and back to the slide area. He would go for a second and run back. After a few times one boy told his friends to stop and motioned my son to come over. I let my son go and they let him kick the ball down the field while they all pretended to try and stop him. Eventually he “made a goal.” Half the boys acted like it was the game point in the World Cup while the other half acted like they just lost. My son was ecstatic about the whole ordeal.
Yeah I've the kids here are really good at that. Took my 4yr and 2yr to the park the other day and a group of about 15 boys about 10-12yr where just chilling and throwing a baseball. Let my kids join in the throw and talked to them in Japanese and tried english as well much to my amusement, but my daughter helped with their english. She's been watching her mums lessons quite well I guess
Not sure what kind of stories you want to hear, but the other day at the park I saw a very, very old but very, very tall man ride on a spring rider the shape of a motorbike, his grandchild riding the airplane next to it. It was adorable.
Not gonna lie, I’m an elementary school teacher. Too many cute moments to share.
Maybe my best recent one was an amazing boy who came up to me at the last day of the year and just said “Mr. Zerosen, your classes were the most interesting, thank you”.
Bro I almost died.
On my way to the store i saw a grandfather taking his 3 year old half caucasian daughter for a walk and they came up to a puddle and picked her up and put her on his shoulders.
He must have never done this nefore because his granddaughter got really happy and startrd singing about how her grandpa was the best grandpa it was super cute
My first year in Japan I was coming home kind of late, I was doing the zombie shuffle down the hill from the train station with a handful of salarymen when one of them suddenly goes "OH!!" and breaks into a jog, then I hear "meow!" and here comes the local neighborhood calico up the hill, "oh! oh!" "meow! meow!" they are running towards each other like long lost friends, he crouches down, they exchange some headbutts, he gets a little comb out of his work bag and brushes her.
I live near a university campus. There’s a taxi driver who will stop at one of the entrances during (what I’m assuming is) slow periods to feed the local stray cats. He’s always surrounded by at least 3 cats. It’s always heartwarming to walk by and see him squatting there feeding the local cats. I want to stop one day and ask them what he’s named them.
I was a tourist staying in a very residential part of Tokyo around 2014 or so. I do hobby electronics and was walking around with a backpack that I built with a big janky looking solar panel on the back of it and cables all hanging out that powered my weird home grown gizmos.
A guy that looked like he'd probably commuted by pterodacryl in his prime half-ran/half-shuffled across the street to come talk about my wacky backpack but my Japanese was maybe two-semester level and he had less English than that. So we did our best with ソラー! and これ、ラジオ、チャージか? It really warmed my heart, he was so excited to talk about the gadgets even with all of the communication difficulty
A house was being built near me and everyday I walked past it and checked out the progress.
One day when it was just completed, a young family of 4 were standing out the front looking at it. The 2 kids, aged about 5 and 7, were doing an excited dance. I could tell it was their new house, so I said おめでとう!
The parents turned to me, did a deep bow and said ありがとうございます
I felt like I was in a commercial for a new home
I live near a preschool and I think it’s the cutest thing when the teachers roll up pushing the cart and a few tiny curious heads pop up out to watch the Tokyo Sakura Tram go by and wave at the old people / tourists riding it
If you're talking about the chii-chii-double-chi, it's gone as of last week. Don't worry, though, it comes back from time to time like some sort of Japanese McRib.
my friend and i were standing in line at disneyland behind a group of high school girls who were standing behind a family with a little boy; he couldn’t have been more than 3-4yrs old and he was wearing a donald duck costume. he was showing it to off to the group of girls by wiggling his donald duck tail and they started laughing at how adorable it all was. since they reacted so well and the line was long, whenever they’d start doing something else, he’d start wiggling his little tail again and then they’d gush over him telling him how cute he is. it’s one of the cutest interactions as well as one of the cutest kids i’ve ever seen.
Yeap, kids at that age know how to get attention. My daughter always has the older girls wrapped around her little finger and makes them do what she wants
A group of school kids asked to interview me in English at Kitano Tenmangu shrine when I was in Kyoto last month. They were super sweet and gave me a bag of origami they folded. It really made my trip. Not sure if this is the right kind of cute, but it was super cute to me.
Nah that's all good. I just get the group of boys yelling out 'HELLLLLLOOOO' trying to impress their mates. So now I've started asking them how they are and it stumps them and then their mates laugh at em
On a run once I saw an おじいちゃん sitting on some steps feeding and singing to what I assumed to be a stray cat. When I ran back past him about 15 minutes later, two more cats, three more treats and a grooming kit had appeared. He was running an impromptu stray kitty grooming and treat Salon on a Wednesday afternoon
Oh that sounds nice, I remember in Tokyo watching an old lady in a park brushing and feeding like 20 cats. It was a nice distraction while I was working, see was there for nearly 2 hours
We were walking home from the bar in Takayama last night and saw a band practicing in a closed coffee shop. Like 5 middle aged guys with guitar/bass/drums just sitting around jamming. We watched through the window for a minute. They were good! They looked like good buddies. It was heartwarming.
A few years back I was staying at a hotel on business. While having breakfast in the lobby area, the elevator doors opened and this little kid - maybe 3 years old or so - stamped out, loudly planted his feet and just shouted "OHAYOU GOZAIMASU" to the entire lobby
Small king energy...
Visiting the temple in Asakusa the other day, got to the top of the stairs and was stopped looking up at the lantern, seconds later I feel tiny arms wrap around my leg. I look down and see the sweetest kid who had bumped into my leg and her first instinct was to hug me, I've never had a cuter bump into me incident in my life. Her mother was super apologetic, I was just beaming smiling at this kid!
Or about two weeks ago visiting another temple with friends in an area that can't get many tourists, looked like almost every school in the area was on a trip that day, all kids between ages 4-10 all waving and shouting hello at us, the group of foreigners. One kid was talking to my friend in japanese (I'm not sure what was said, my Japanese is awful) but he eventually asks my friend "what's tomato in English?" To which he responds "Tomato is tomato, its a katakana word isn't it?" All 3 of em had a lightbulb moment right there, so damn wholesome.
Edit: typos
Met a friendly couple that helped me with the direction and which buses to take in Hiroshima. As the bus approaches the bus stop, I see them frantically waving from opposite of the road to catch my attention to board the bus 😂. I thought it was funny as heck and repeated bow to thank them for going beyond for helping.
I was renting a bike on Shodoshima with a friend and doing a tour of the island. It was just about 3-4pm and a school of 幼稚園生 (pun intended) in their blue smocks and yellow helmets were walking along the sidewalk back home. There was at least 30 of them.
i was walking around Kyoto, specifically around the Uji area when i stumbled upon a store full of japanese grannies selling handmade crafts. as soon as i walked in they all said “いらっしゃいませ” one by one and then we all laughed because they startled me LOL. it was quite sweet :)
On my way home from バイト i saw two kids waiting outside Mcdo with their pet golden retriever which was bigger than both of them combined, despite that the doggo was disciplined enough to wait with them without making a ruckus!
In sapporo after a tiring day at work, I was walking behind a mom and her daughter. I can't quite catch what they're talking about but they sound so excited that I thought the mom was a teen too ahaha. In the end they stop on the crossing, look left and right, raise their hand together, and crossed. Seeing that I don't feel as tired, it was cute.
More wholesome than cute but I was standing at a crosswalk waiting for the light to turn green and these people get in a taxi on the corner next to me. Then someone on the opposite side in their car started honking at me (one of the rare occasions I heard honking in my time in Tokyo). I look around and notice that someone getting in the taxi dropped their phone so I quickly picked it up and handed it to them before they drove off. The driver that honked gave me a nice smile and I gave them a thumbs up :)
Only creepy thing is how OP writes it to be honest.
"I saw a new worker being cheered on for her first delivery but she forgot the scooter keys inside"
Is cute.
"I saw a female 18-20 posing for a group of men 30-50 that took pictures of her while smiling..."
Is creepy.
Sorry guess I could of mentioned all the co-workers were woman as well. Pretty much every place is run by middle aged woman in the mornings and lunch times. Then the students take over in the afternoon/evenings
Sounds very cute, I love that side of Japan.
I hate McDonalds, think it tastes like sugar and cardboard, meat does not taste like meat etc. (A McMuffin is the only thing I'd eat)
However, I am curious about McDs in Japan, is it hugely better or just a bit?
Not sure, I pretty much stopped eating there in NZ. Normally go to a bakery for a pie in the mornings. But I do enjoy the Mega muffin here, but I don't have a sophisticated palette
https://www.mcdonalds.co.jp/menu/morning/
Probably a Mega Muffin.
I prefer to get a regular sausage and egg set with an extra sausage and egg muffin on the side when I want to increase my chances of heart attack before a busy day.
Well I do hover around 100kgs. Sorry, Mega McMuffin. When they were first released in NZ they were called Massive McMuffins and it's still stuck in my head as that. I do order the Mega though

This is too wholesome! Except that their relationship is not recognized here, which is the opposite of wholesome. :'(
Japan has a very robust gay history.
ok? They still don't get any marriage rights.
That is precious! Keep that memory with you forever!!
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Witnessed a mom obviously sending her young kid on their first errand at a farmer's market. She was not-so-inconspicuously hiding to watch as a child who was maybe three years old toddled forward with their little money pouch to one of the stalls.
I think I’ve seen that show!
It’s actually available on Netflix in overseas markets.
Here, too!
Saw two white dudes arguing in (broken) Japanese with each other in Ogikubo once. NOW that’s what I call immigrating
It happens from time to time... You meet some dude from Russia or Turkey or Glasgow and the only language you have in common is Japanese.
Glasgow 😭
I don’t know what they talk but it sure doesn’t sound like English to me
Spoiler - it isn’t 😁
I was at an Indian restaurant in Gunma and the waitress only knew Hindi and Japanese so we had a chat about Canada in the latter
This has ファニエスト外語学院 written all over it. Must've been hilarious.
That's how I met my husbands.
Bitter sweet cute moment. I’m driving home and stop at a red signal. I see a high school aged couple holding hands I felt moved by the young love. Then, a bird drops a big shit right on their hands. He had his hand over hers so I assume he took the entire hit.
Happened to me in high school. Was on my shoulder though and I tried to pretend it didn’t happen so as not to ruin my first handholding with my crush.
Aah, the legendary Foo Bird.
I'm convinced all birds are just full of hate towards humans. I think maybe they're still upset about their dinosaur ancestors no longer being in charge of the earth.
Sounds like a very ふん date!
It was probably personal for that karasu.
LOL, I embarrassed the hell out of a HS girl once (my bad...). She was walking home in the rain and the wind suddenly turned her umbrella inside out, we were sitting at a red light in the work truck and I just lost my shit laughing and I guess she heard me...

I wish the Japanese never grow up
Unfortunately they do. But fortunately they do so at a ten-year delay to their Western same age cohorts!
I meant, Japanese children are so cute, bright and cheerful that I get sad imagining how how gloomy and glassed-eyed they'll become as soon as they'll step into high school, not to speak when they will find themselves facing adulthood.
My 2yr old says bye bye to EVERYTHING at the moment. But it is nice when all the restaurant staff stop to say byebye to him as well
When they wave bye bye to trains :')

Cute
I'm sorry but what is a Maccas?
Micky D’s
Oh! It all makes sense now. Thanks!!!
It is what us aussies and kiwis call McDonald's
Mick Dick's

Aussie Aussie Aussie🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Kiwi
Maccas for breaky!
my main occasional treat
If there is some bloke with the name of McDonald down under, do you call him Maccas too? I have a feeling you folks down under like Maccas more than us Americans.
In NZ i pretty much never ate it, I just love the mega muffin as a treat here
As a fellow Aussie, I love the fact that Japan calls Maccas "Makku." Also, Germany calls it "Mekkas."
Kiwi but yeah, makes it easier
Golden Arches
Tits McGee.
Aussie version to say McDonalds.
Australian McD's
Makku
Came out of the sweet shop this evening after three high school boys (probably 14/15 years old). They did the "せい〜の!" thing and revealed their purchases from their pockets. It made me chuckle and cheered me up.
What’s this?
It's like saying, " On 3, 1...2...3!"
or "ready, go!"

Yea I’ve had really good luck with most of the kids being kind to my son. At worst they just kind of smile and walk off.
Not sure what kind of stories you want to hear, but the other day at the park I saw a very, very old but very, very tall man ride on a spring rider the shape of a motorbike, his grandchild riding the airplane next to it. It was adorable.
I guess I'm too fat but yeah I always fall off those at a high speed
>behind the counter are 3 workers between 30-50 all taking pictures of her which she poses for (front, side and back photos). ?!?
Not gonna lie, I’m an elementary school teacher. Too many cute moments to share. Maybe my best recent one was an amazing boy who came up to me at the last day of the year and just said “Mr. Zerosen, your classes were the most interesting, thank you”. Bro I almost died.
That's gotta make you feel good
Saw an old lad going mad with some nun chucks in the park the other day, not so cute but deffo impressive
I hope he didn't throw them too far, poor ladies!
Alrighty grandpa
No, I can throw southpaw, too.
That'd be cool to see
On my way to the store i saw a grandfather taking his 3 year old half caucasian daughter for a walk and they came up to a puddle and picked her up and put her on his shoulders. He must have never done this nefore because his granddaughter got really happy and startrd singing about how her grandpa was the best grandpa it was super cute
I see you habe fat fongers too
That sounds nice
A 5-6yo kid at the local park saw the tattoos on my arms and called all his friends to show them. They asked one by one « nani sore? »
Yeah kids love poking tattoos, guess most never get the chance to see them
My first year in Japan I was coming home kind of late, I was doing the zombie shuffle down the hill from the train station with a handful of salarymen when one of them suddenly goes "OH!!" and breaks into a jog, then I hear "meow!" and here comes the local neighborhood calico up the hill, "oh! oh!" "meow! meow!" they are running towards each other like long lost friends, he crouches down, they exchange some headbutts, he gets a little comb out of his work bag and brushes her.
Ok that would of been awesome to see
That'll probably be the next Shinkai movie.
would watch
Sounds like a good work environment
I live near a university campus. There’s a taxi driver who will stop at one of the entrances during (what I’m assuming is) slow periods to feed the local stray cats. He’s always surrounded by at least 3 cats. It’s always heartwarming to walk by and see him squatting there feeding the local cats. I want to stop one day and ask them what he’s named them.
>ask them what he's named them You can talk to cats?
Anyone can. Pricks won't listen though.
Sounds nice and a good way to kill some time
I was a tourist staying in a very residential part of Tokyo around 2014 or so.
Good to start off neighbourly relations on a good level
SEKISUI HOUSE!
Every time we pass one I'm like "ahh yes sexy house" and my husband always corrects me as if he genuinely thinks I think it's pronounced that way haha
I do the same with the commercials.
I live near a preschool and I think it’s the cutest thing when the teachers roll up pushing the cart and a few tiny curious heads pop up out to watch the Tokyo Sakura Tram go by and wave at the old people / tourists riding it
Yeah always love seeing the heads just poking over the railing looking around
If I go home one of the main things I’ll miss is Japanese Maccas ;( The prices are amazing too.
The double double cheeseburger thing they got going right now is \*chef's kiss\*
If you're talking about the chii-chii-double-chi, it's gone as of last week. Don't worry, though, it comes back from time to time like some sort of Japanese McRib.

I like to have a Hello battle where we just keep yelling it as we walk away from each other
Yeah I do that as well but after the first hello I change it to goodbye and the forest gump wave
On a run once I saw an おじいちゃん sitting on some steps feeding and singing to what I assumed to be a stray cat. Fellow Australian 🤝
Kiwi, we say it as well
My 2yo daughter said byebye! and waved to the dirtdigger and the manly guy driving fell into the biggest grin. His reaction was the cutest XD

At first I thought you said you went to Macao, and was wondering how you were going to tie this back to Japan Life 🤣
lol

Omg the bicycle carts full of lil kids going to school has probably made me grow ovaries as a dude
i think i've seen that too

didnt think to assume they were all men, OP never clarified sooo
Stating "Young 18 year old female worker" implies that the rest of the workers are not female, somewhat.

https://www.mcdonalds.co.jp/menu/morning/ Probably a Mega Muffin. I prefer to get a regular sausage and egg set with an extra sausage and egg muffin on the side when I want to increase my chances of heart attack before a busy day.
Wow yeah, almost 700cal for just ¥420
OP probably means Mega Muffin
Risky Google search of the day.
Well I do hover around 100kgs. Sorry, Mega McMuffin. When they were first released in NZ they were called Massive McMuffins and it's still stuck in my head as that. I do order the Mega though
probably a typo for mcmuffins lol
