It's is always best to take rings off when washing hands, cooking, swimming, showering, or working out. It's safer and more hygenic that way. If you're still uncertain but you know the brand the ring is, I recommend looking at that brand's care instructions.

Water won't damage sterling silver, but it will cause it to oxidize/tarnish more quickly. Some styles of jewelry look GREAT with a little oxidation/patina, and some don't. If you really want to keep this ring as shiny as possible, keeping it dry will prevent you from having to clean and polish it as often.

Sterling silver will tarnish no matter what you do. Merely wearing it and thus exposing it to air is what oxidizes it. Unless it has a rhodium or anti-tarnish plating, that plating will slow the oxidization process. So just wear it as much as you want to wear it and get a silver polishing cloth to polish it up when it starts to look "dull."

sterling silver is fine to wear in water! it’ll lose its shine overtime, but can easily be polished w/ a cloth. it won’t be ruined & it won’t turn green or anything.

I’m not sure why but my only experience with silver tarnishing was with a piece I never really wore. The pieces I wear all day every day (shower, sleep, everything) have never tarnished.

as someone who wears all sterling in the shower in the pools to sleep it’s all good yes it will oxidize but you can buy cloth wipes or jewelry cleaner at target or Walmart that will clean your jewelry whether it’s gold or silver!!! even if you take off your jewelry before bed and before showering is still going to oxidize, but you can easily restore it very quickly and nicely so don’t worry about it. I will say, though if you do put lotion or wash your hands with rings obviously they’re gonna become slippery so if the ring fits a little bit loose on you, maybe don’t wear it more so you won’t lose it or a chance of being lost, but if it’s snuggly on your finger go for it
