Their newer style insole wasn’t very comfy for me in my AR’s. I picked up some leather to make insoles but didn’t bother after trying out Superfeet Wide Green insoles.

Wide Green's are absolutely baller in the AR's.

Chrono_Constant3

I use Birkenstock birko sport insoles and I swear by them in my ARs.

Sea-Government4874

I love Birkenstock footbeds. How’s the fit in the toebox?

Chrono_Constant3

It’s great. Zero issues.

I have had superfeet insoles in a couple shoes and once broken in they work. But for my AR's I actually got Timberland Pro anti fatigue insoles in both pairs.

I currently have the newer leather + padding insoles from my ARs in my Vellies and like them a lot. My superfeet hikes are in my ARs, but I didn't like them in the vellies. Edit: I did buy 2mm thick leather from amazon and cut my own. 2mm is far too thin. It would probably work with 4mm + a break in period. Not sure how much you're going to get out of them with the hard rubber soles, though.

Thanks, nice to know. Right now I'm leaning towards JG new leather insoles just because they are one of the cheapest options and your feedback helped. Vellies are my first JG boot but I was also considering getting ARs at the time. Which one do you prefer or is more comfortable on the feet? Are the toe box area width the same on both? I was looking in 3,2 to 3,6 mm thick leather insole for my home project but will se yet. How thick are this newest JG leather cushion insoles?

I love them both! Both are US 10.5 sizing. The toebox area is the same shoe to shoe. The AR has a bit of a break in period. The padded cuff hurt my ankles for the first week-ish and the extra stitching on the tongue pushed into my toe for a while until the leather softened. Now they are super comfy. The biggest difference is my feet are a lot hotter in the ARs than the vellies. The vellies feel like slippers with a thick sole. The stock insole with the plastic heel-cup is hot garbage. The leather and foam padded insole that comes with the AR is much nicer and doesn't fill up the volume of the vellie too much. I have the cushioned Hike insolses from Superfeet with the forefoot padding ripped out. It was causing pressure on my goofy feet (duck foot shaped with high arches). I've hiked in both and both do an admirable job as far as comfort is concerned. The ARs are definitely nicer on the feet and I reach for them more often when I'm planning a long walk/hike. The last big difference is that the ARs are really hot compared to the vellies. The vellies are far more breathable and my feet barely sweat compared to the AR under similar circumstances where my feet will be outright wet. Long way of saying I love both and often alternate between the two.

Consistent_Entry8890

i use gel insoles whenever possible

polishengineering

I use currex activepro insoles in my vellies. Nice arch support.

ScottyDport

I use Form insoles.

I have gotten two pairs of ARs this year, one in March, one in April. The original insole isn't horrible, but it is pretty stiff. I put a pair of Dr. Sholl's Float-On-Air insoles, and a pair of thin "odor eaters" type insoles under those. ARs are pretty roomy inside. The Dr Sholl's are wide enough and fit well.

I ended up buying [nicks handmade](https://nicksboots.com/leather-insoles/) insoles and leather laces. Horween & siedel is the leather I chose. It is slippery though.
