Oh don't worry, Henry was just fighting demons, summoned by Satan worshippers and then having his way with the animals that then willingly gave their bodies to him

Where's the guest though seems interesting
They re-designed his face as they were not satisfied with him in KCD1, for whatever reason. Its a common thing with sequels. The Witcher 2-3 and Red Read Redemption 1-2 did the same.
Well, I'll say this.
Every single one of my room mates & a few of my friends have been like "why does your character look so....special?"
Basically Henry looks a little mentally undeveloped to quite a few people.
Literally yesterday I'm cooking and someone goes "why is your character r**arded"
I wasn't even surprised.
They look literally the same in the first game and real life. 2nd game they took his general looks and changed his jaw line, hair, head size and other things to make him "more attractive"...
People are mentioning this so many times as if it would be a hindrance in enjoying the game in any way. It's not like he's looking like a totally different person. This is not immersion breaking at all.
It was immersion breaking enough for me to think there is a several year time jump after the prologue or something. He easily looks a decade older here.
I think the one thing they could've edited was the tiny beginnings of jowls - look to the sides of his chin/his lower cheeks around his jaw. I think that's the bit that throws people off.
I don't know. A decade seems like a leap. A lot of dudes fill out between 18 and 21. I was pretty twerpy at 18, and then puberty finished doing it's thing and I had broader shoulders, a bigger chest, and a slightly rounded/wider face.Â
When I'd see friends I hadn't seen since graduating they'd be like "dude you look like a MAN," and I'd be like "DUDE, YOU TOO."
I just justify it because of war and trauma. I mean if you look at some pictures of soldiers before and after war. It looks they aged about 10 years, some look like they have aged 20+ years. And in Henry's case, he isn't using a rifle engaging enemies at 50, 100, 300 yards out. He's right in it with a sword or a mace for example. That type of combat is much more grueling and stressful. Close quarters has always been the most taxing even in modern warfare.
There are mods which make Geralt look like the original Geralt of W1. I think that would be the best middle way solution. Because some are just fine with the new Henry, while some aren't.
My personal favorite is "irregular Geralt". Makes Geralt look more ugly as he is described and much more rough. Mix in "peepers" by Ramcoid (RIP) and you've got a Geralt who looks like he makes people uncomfortable by his appearance which is on point for the books.Â
I know that it's a redesign because of better face capture tech and such, but I also wanted to share this.
Same person after 4 years of war.

Village idiot? My Henry went from mass murderer to... Err... Mass murdering serial killer..?
Yes I killed his entire home village and looted everything before it was taken over
I had no clue and now I know what Iâm doing next play through lol. I never attempted any other resolution because I just enjoy kicking his ass man idk what it is đ
I knew that, but it's still a good example of how much of a toll physical and mental stress can take on the appearance.
This article shows a project by photographer Lalage Snow where each of the three pictures were taken over the course of an 8 month deployment to Afghanistan.

Not sure why you want to downplay this for some nit-picking about a video game...but hey...you do you.
Because that part I mentioned is really important to understand why the change is so drastic, and this is an image that's reposted enough to be entering the wider public consciousness and it's doing so as borderline misinformation because people often don't mention the POW part.
I get images can be a striking way to get messages across, but let's at least do so aware of what the actual story behind them is.
Yeah the first game is incredibly hardware inefficient (not really their fault, they had a small team and prioritized content). Hardware limitations have long surpassed developer ability so many game engines trade efficiency for ease of use.
Thatâs because of the engine + their open world and persistent NPC game design. CPUs will again be the bottleneck this time since they didnât switch the engine.
So you are telling that they made everything in the game possible, and they can't make the character gets a bit older after some progress is made because of "hardware limitations"?
That's totally false
>So you are telling that they made everything in the game possible
Not true, they scrapped off some things from the first game due to same reasons. Crossbows & firearms didn't make it. Mounted enemies also didn't make it, otherwise that unhorse button would've been useful.
Okay, but that has nothing to do with Hardware Limitation. They made a giant trebouchet that use to fire stones at castle far away, untill the wall is breached.... What made you think, they cant make and NPC mount a horse to fight..
They lacked more money and needed to publish
He also doesn't look that different if you look at the various shots in motion from the trailers showing him.
He looks more different in this particular shot, likely due to just a particular lighting situation, an "unusual" expression and idk having his face covered in strawberry jam.
No kidding! Honestly I think a lot of people who are so butthurt about his improved look just miss the old model because it looked less gritty and more sweet and cute and young like the anime characters they watch.
The downvotes are coming. I can smell them đ¤Ł
Could be true idk Iâm not harping on the game developers Iâm just curious why in my personal opinion he looks older when the game is supposed to take place in the same year
Because they use mocap and facial scanning and the actor is in fact older. Also the technology is better so it captures more detail, therefore the signs of aging show up more prominently.
Maybe this is funny but the guy lived with his parents until they died and he lost them as well as his home upon reaching adulthood. And on top of that he has regular nightmares. Prolonged time of grief can change a man, make him strong.
Bro he done seen some shit⌠the first game literally opens with him witnessing almost his entire village of friends and neighbours get brutally massacred while the only home heâs ever known is burned to ash. He should have a white streak in his hair and chain smoke cigarettes.
New game = new character models
But lore-wise: Henry when through a lot of trauma in the first game + he's been constantly training and eating a lot, so he's basically become a medieval athlete.
tbh that prob their real vision of him. btw he was in war and experienced horror that thing will do to a man. look at photos of man went into WW2 young and after 5 years look those who survived looked like they aged by alot
Because itâs a design decision to accompany his higher status and skills with an appropriate appearance. Why is the same question asked over and over again? Just use the search function.
Trauma and war ages you. A lot of traumatic stuff happened to Henry in KCD1 and that was supposed to just be a couple of weeks between the prologue and the end.

This looks nothing like Tom McKay wtf
Of me i belives that hery trained so hard to become a good fighter that his body also transformed. He must be having a growth spurt as well due to him being a teenager (i belive he is 15 or 16 year old ) So thats why he looks different
âWhy he look old? That doesnât make sense for my lore!â Gamers when they canât fathom that actors used for face models actually age like normal humans do. Or that art direction can change with using updated technology used to design characters⌠fucking hell. It can be as simple as they didnât like how the old character model looked and wanted to update it.
I'd say you can age significantly in a year if put in high stress situations, which to be fair to our boy he has been.
Best example of it is before and after pictures of men that have gone to war.
Ah really? I thought he looked a lot older too so I assumed it would take place further ahead.
Suppose it just boils down to better face capture technology along with the actors actual age then
First game was incredible workout for Henry, i say it makes sense after all the training and herb squatting. Just imagine the transition to this was smooth rather than out of nowhere.
I didn't know it was supposed to be the same year. And now it's going to complicate some relationships like Theresa. TBH I wish there was a time jump as I prefer the older Henry.
The player who played him spent 7 in game years farming alchemy
Bro, I had to teach myself to read first too.
đ thatâs a valid reason
Bro farmed ten times worth of David Horak achievments.
He looks quite well in that case
The actor.
Trauma, war and eating more than peasant food
Eating Theresa will do that to a man
Don't forget the mare... oh god the mare
PTSD entered the chat
Please explain wtf
Side quest about LSD
*shrooms, not lsd
Damn i never knew that existed
You never lockpicked a chicken? Casual
Just did. That shit was weird af
And a chicken... and a pig too... good god
I'm just more conserned now
Oh don't worry, Henry was just fighting demons, summoned by Satan worshippers and then having his way with the animals that then willingly gave their bodies to him

:)))) Go talk to the Uzhitz inn keeper or father Godwin! He might have heard of something
Sure thing!
I just played that guest, wtf did i just witness?

Lets be honest most of us chose the mare đ
Honestly my favorite side quest in any game ever! Whenever anyone asks me why I like this game so much I describe that side quest!
I fucked the chicken.
He said *more* than peasant food ^sorry ^Theresa
"I love you, Theresa..." "I know."
HAHAHAHAHAHA
He still kept on eating peasant food in my play.
The little camps with perpetual stew caldrons were my favorite places to sleep in KCD.
No more communal pots for Henry
My boy, haven't you heard?.. he's hungry and he needs to eat because Warhorse is cooking.
All that TeresaCakes is the culprit on Henry's weight gain.
They re-designed his face as they were not satisfied with him in KCD1, for whatever reason. Its a common thing with sequels. The Witcher 2-3 and Red Read Redemption 1-2 did the same.
Redesigned? Are you sure? I thought they said, that is because better face capture (which got incredibly better in those 6 years)
Yes and they redesigned the face off that new and more accurate data.
I dunno, to me the old model looks way closer to the actor than the new one
Yeah same, this new Henry face has a jawline and chin chiseled by Jesus Christ himself.
Well, I'll say this. Every single one of my room mates & a few of my friends have been like "why does your character look so....special?" Basically Henry looks a little mentally undeveloped to quite a few people. Literally yesterday I'm cooking and someone goes "why is your character r**arded" I wasn't even surprised.
_[It nicked me](https://youtube.com/shorts/ce9_jwots-w?si=ZLBO7zR5p4oDTSFZ)_
It's the eyes
The eyes and the ill-defined lips that together make his expression a little vacant. El's Complexions + Enhanced Eyes do wonders for Hal.
The character does kind of looks retarded, not the actor tho. I prefer the sequel version
He looks very *English* to be sure.
I don't find he looks of lower intelligence? Man, how do people even judge shit like that?!
They are likely seeing things that remind them of stuff like down syndrome. Some mental conditions are visible physically.
Idk if redesigned is the right word but yeah I get what you both mean
>new and more accurate data Yes, of an older and more aged actor. Playing a... 16/17 year old? I'm guessing KC2 is still taking place in 1403.
Idk, the guy who plays Henry looks far more like KCD1 Henry than KCD2 Henry. I donât think itâs a mocap thing.
I still see 14+1th century Tom McKay
15th Century*
Done â
Lol. 10th century plus 503 years McKay
They look literally the same in the first game and real life. 2nd game they took his general looks and changed his jaw line, hair, head size and other things to make him "more attractive"...
This is the answer. They gave him "main character energy" Henry was a commoner in every way in the first game
Exactly. The story of the 2nd game will be much more bombastic.
People are mentioning this so many times as if it would be a hindrance in enjoying the game in any way. It's not like he's looking like a totally different person. This is not immersion breaking at all.

Also between Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and War
John looks the same in both red dead games wdym
He dosen't though, https://reddead.fandom.com/wiki/John\_Marston. Neither does Dutch and especially Javier.
Between RDR1 and RDR2 years have passed. On the other hand, between KCD1 and KCD2 only a few days have passed.
Yeah, RDR2 John looks like the exact same character just younger and with better graphics.
Youâre blind
untrue, even his hair color is different
They absolutely do not
I know that it's a redesign because of better face capture tech and such, but I also wanted to share this. Same person after 4 years of war. https://preview.redd.it/djt81nw7746d1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53d510d03946e503c1316d2a5e2a9c14e52316c1
This is a good point honestly henry went from village idiot to killing hundreds mercilessly in a year and he was 16 or 15 I think
Village idiot? My Henry went from mass murderer to... Err... Mass murdering serial killer..? Yes I killed his entire home village and looted everything before it was taken over
pls explain how he was behaving like a village idiot?
Picked a fight with the town drunk and got his ass beat, threw shit at someoneâs house, etc.
You can beat him into submission, I for one never miss out on the opportunity to whoop his ass đ
you can also get the boys to beat the shit out of kunesh
I had no clue and now I know what Iâm doing next play through lol. I never attempted any other resolution because I just enjoy kicking his ass man idk what it is đ
Throwing shit at Deutsch's house lol
It's worth mentioning that this individual was put in a POW camp and if you look at pics of him after the war he has a normal weight again
The true knowledge is always in the replies, rarely in the headlines. Thank you.

Really nice real-world comparison
Bros chin is bricked up now
And his hair looks like he used a blow dryer after his daily shower. Maybe he just rode through the wind to dry his hair, though.Â
When your hair drier is a horse
Kcd 1 was intended to make henry more battle hardened after various of quests but it didn't due to hardware limitations.
Budget and time limitations probably. Not hardware.
My Henry grew a beard after baptism by fire
So you are telling that they made everything in the game possible, and they can't make the character gets a bit older after some progress is made because of "hardware limitations"? That's totally false
>So you are telling that they made everything in the game possible Not true, they scrapped off some things from the first game due to same reasons. Crossbows & firearms didn't make it. Mounted enemies also didn't make it, otherwise that unhorse button would've been useful.
I heard it was because they ran out of time or funding. Nothing about hardware limitations.
Were hides and fabrics originally supposed to do something? Or do they do something in KCD and I haven't gotten far enough in the game?
I think they wanted to add tannery skills and better blacksmithing and forging too, but im not entirely sure
Okay, but that has nothing to do with Hardware Limitation. They made a giant trebouchet that use to fire stones at castle far away, untill the wall is breached.... What made you think, they cant make and NPC mount a horse to fight.. They lacked more money and needed to publish
That ain't false.
Henry's max leveled his mewing stat and grabbed the optimal perks.
This has been asked literally hundreds of times on this sub.
Karma farming at this point. Just like Godwin's voice
Godwins voice?
People bitch about a different voice actor for Father Godwin, while im fact he is the same and just changed the accent.
He also doesn't look that different if you look at the various shots in motion from the trailers showing him. He looks more different in this particular shot, likely due to just a particular lighting situation, an "unusual" expression and idk having his face covered in strawberry jam.
He needed to get something eat, he was feeling a bit hungry.
well his job is pretty tiring hes the only man in bohemia who can actually do anything
no microplastics in his balls
I donât know, but Iâm feeling quite thirsty
Henry does indeed look different compared to KCD 1
The boring irl reason is engine upgrades and better tech. In gane we can assume our boy Henry has a bit more experience now
Heâs a growing boy. Thatâs why heâs always so hungry.
Iâm sure he is feeling quite hungry
Thank good they got rid of his derpy eyes.
No kidding! Honestly I think a lot of people who are so butthurt about his improved look just miss the old model because it looked less gritty and more sweet and cute and young like the anime characters they watch. The downvotes are coming. I can smell them đ¤Ł
I think his face is just more detailed which tends to highlight age marks like wrinkles and freckles
Could be true idk Iâm not harping on the game developers Iâm just curious why in my personal opinion he looks older when the game is supposed to take place in the same year
Itâs his chin, he had that spartan chin surgery from me, myself and Irene.
Heâs seen some shit.
Iâm fine with it. Heâs just put on a lot of muscle đ¤ˇââď¸
You ever see pictures of young men going to battle during WW2 before and afters? Its not a severe here but they aged and became hollow pretty fast
Because of war... War never changes
heâs a growing lad
try spending a month with Hans Capon, you'll age prematurely too
He's seen some stuff? lack of suncream in medieval Europe?
This model is way better
Because they use mocap and facial scanning and the actor is in fact older. Also the technology is better so it captures more detail, therefore the signs of aging show up more prominently.
Maybe this is funny but the guy lived with his parents until they died and he lost them as well as his home upon reaching adulthood. And on top of that he has regular nightmares. Prolonged time of grief can change a man, make him strong.
Stress, aging and workout
This is just what drinking schnapps does to a mfer.
Better Graphics...maybe there isn't much more behind it then that
Art Style change with better graphics
Because thatâs how time and aging works
War does tend to do that to a person.
Bro he done seen some shit⌠the first game literally opens with him witnessing almost his entire village of friends and neighbours get brutally massacred while the only home heâs ever known is burned to ash. He should have a white streak in his hair and chain smoke cigarettes.
More polygons = more wrinkes\\imperfections = older looking
Our boy is growing up. So proud
New game = new character models But lore-wise: Henry when through a lot of trauma in the first game + he's been constantly training and eating a lot, so he's basically become a medieval athlete.
Stress makes you look much older and it does very fast.
tbh that prob their real vision of him. btw he was in war and experienced horror that thing will do to a man. look at photos of man went into WW2 young and after 5 years look those who survived looked like they aged by alot
Because itâs a design decision to accompany his higher status and skills with an appropriate appearance. Why is the same question asked over and over again? Just use the search function.
He aged
Because he is older in KCD2 /thread
He's supposed to be older.
If I had to guess itâs because itâs a sequel that takes place after the first game⌠idk though canât be sure
Trauma and war ages you. A lot of traumatic stuff happened to Henry in KCD1 and that was supposed to just be a couple of weeks between the prologue and the end.
Time?
Because heâs older?
People of his time period lived brutal and short lives. It's called aging.
Because he aged
Henry's model spent 7 years mewing for the sequel. This was necessary to incorporate the ingame mewing skill. This screen cap is just Henry with lv 20 mewing.

Of me i belives that hery trained so hard to become a good fighter that his body also transformed. He must be having a growth spurt as well due to him being a teenager (i belive he is 15 or 16 year old ) So thats why he looks different
Combat will age a man fast and people didnât live that long back then also he lived through all the skill farming
The new Henry looks hot as fuck I love him
Oh wow, seems you have some strong opinions on the new look
i think its because Tom McKay ( the face capture for henry) has gotten a bit older himself
I mean, he was like late 30s when they did the first game and Henry is meant to be a teenager. I love Tom but Henryâs age is so messy.
Because the actor who was scanned for the model aged 7 years between the games.
Years, better food, war, and puss puss
It's Tom's actual face and they have better performance capture now
There has been a time jump in real life between the development of game 1 and 2 and technology has advanced.
âWhy he look old? That doesnât make sense for my lore!â Gamers when they canât fathom that actors used for face models actually age like normal humans do. Or that art direction can change with using updated technology used to design characters⌠fucking hell. It can be as simple as they didnât like how the old character model looked and wanted to update it.
They didnt age capon at all which bothers me. Also both of them should be past the age where they change looks anyways
Death? People change looks throughout their lives.
Because, and brace for this, he is older. Mostly mentally.
KGC 1 was a hard ride
Why? Maybe because a human ages.
That much in not even a year but the same year??
I'd say you can age significantly in a year if put in high stress situations, which to be fair to our boy he has been. Best example of it is before and after pictures of men that have gone to war.
How much older is Henry in the sequel?
He shouldnât be much older at all kcd 2 takes place in the same year just during the summer
Ah really? I thought he looked a lot older too so I assumed it would take place further ahead. Suppose it just boils down to better face capture technology along with the actors actual age then
Probably
Time has passed
Because time goes faster in the medieval ages
he was way older telling the storry in the kcd1 intro. propably a vision
The man has been through some serious shit. Thatâs why.
Because he is.....?
Been playing getting my but kicked by two guys whats best stamina goes so fast and none of the training from the being has help me
My opinions are Henry have faced constant stress of warfare and training, been through traumas in Skalitz, slept on rough terrains and nightmares,...
Because war... war never changes
Well heâs seen some shit. I can attest that doing hard, stressful work ages you a bit
Better mocap tech probably.
First game was incredible workout for Henry, i say it makes sense after all the training and herb squatting. Just imagine the transition to this was smooth rather than out of nowhere.
is that henery? i was thinking that was hans for a sec
Ngl I thought he looked like Hans Capon when I saw him. Think it's the hair đ
I didn't know it was supposed to be the same year. And now it's going to complicate some relationships like Theresa. TBH I wish there was a time jump as I prefer the older Henry.
Well my Henry has currently killed lots of people, Iâm sure thatâs bound to have some effect on him
âWhy did Henry become older after aging?!â
God be praised, Henry's aged!
He was 15-16 in the first game, maybe there's been a time skip?
