This is the type of behavior that happens when your organization is committed to coaching continuity. If we couldn't get a deal done with Mike Brown earlier, then it gets much harder to convince people to stay with us.
It’s absolutely speculation, but it’s still true. Had we gone into this season with uncertainty about Mike brown I highly doubt Malik would have forgone the market completely.
Holy fucking shit!!!!!! I love the man!!!
I can't fucking believe it. He signed that fast?!
Malik is something else. Over the last few decades, there were a few players that I felt sad about being traded or signed somewhere else. I can honestly say Malik leaving Sac would have been the worst I'd probably feel of any King.
I genuinely believe losing Monk would have set this team back several years. No single individual could fill his dawg mentality, entertainment, shooting, play-making, energy heart, and his leadership.
I still can't fucking believe it. I really like his agent! (Maliks brother).
That is really good 6th man money. But he could have started AND got more money being in Detroit or Orlando or San Antonio. I’m honestly flabbergasted he didn’t try. Malik must REALLY want to be a king 🥹
I think this is a big deal. With Monk back and Ellis surpassing Huerter, the Kings can package some combination of Huerter, Barnes, Mitchell, and the 13th pick for a PF.
I am personally a fan of trading to get Jonathan Isaac to start at PF and backup Sabonis at C. His per 36 scoring is identical to Barnes but he can guard 1-5. I know folks talk shit about his health and his offense, but if he was flawless we couldn't get him. Shoot for his upside and suddenly you've got a guy who can score if you leave him open, add monster defense and length to the starting rotation, and potentially mask Sabonis' biggest defensive weakness as a backside rim protector. Fox, Ellis, Murray, Isaac, and Sabonis would be interesting.
Yeah this is my guess too. From some of the end of season press conferences it really sounded like he was gone if the right money was out there.
Good chance he still could’ve got more in FA, but maybe not enough to make him want to leave?
Yeah, just guessing from the outside obviously, I have to assume he could get offers that were bigger than this, but not so much bigger that it felt worthwhile to him to leave a good situation.
Of course, that’s also part of the process to get as much as you can. Monk absolutely should have given no notice about what he wanted to do. Play your cards close to your hand.
He scored his largest payday of his career. Good on you youngblood, get your bag!
We are blessed to have him part of our team.
His agent is his older brother. Probably the best agent he could ask for. Someone who is thinking beyond just dollars.
If his concern was strictly money, they would have waited a few days to "test" the market. If I'm not mistaken, the only team that can formally offer Malik a contract on 6-20-24 is Sacramento.
They could have easily not committed, and waited for teams to outbid each other, even if only a few mil.
> even if only a few mil.
I think the numbers of the offers weren't gonna be too hard to ballpark. i.e. Magic/Spurs for $21-$23m or Pistons for $23-$25m. Probably not too many variables after that to figure out where he wants to go.
Always felt in my heart Malik was gonna be loyal as long as he could get good money. He thrived in Sac, and has had some struggles elsewhere. I’m happy he stayed though
Dudeeeee!!!! Fuck yeah! He’s the spark in everything Kings. I love De’Aaron and Domas and Keegan can cook but Malik staying just ignited an entire group of believers. The players coaches fans! I’m telling you when the kings win the championship in 3 years, we’ll all remember this signing. If for god sakes it’s true 😂😂 imagine that? But Arabic King, welcome home and thank you. Guessing im buying a Monk jersey. Let the Fox / Monk show continue. We’re finally building a team again 🟣♣️
Supposedly getting interest at $22-$25 million a year from other teams. Which is crazy because he would be walking away from another $12-$24 million…..I hope his next contract is even bigger than that.
Dude is legit a good guy and deserves the praise. He really actively wanted to play for us from the sound of it, and sorta went out of his way to leave a potential bag with other teams in order to keep our dream alive here in sac. He makes the rest of our offseason more clear in terms of need going into the draft/FA as well, which will only help the team.
What a legend. Fucking love this man and will be buying a jersey of his asap
You guys don't think Malik's agent was illegally testing the free agency waters throughout the NBA Finals and figured out he likely wasn't gonna get paid much more?
Absolute legend
I can't wait to hear Maliks press conference. No matter the topic, it's always entertaining.
Absolute King 😤
Absolute Malik 👑
I am so happy

There is no evidence to confirm what you’re saying …
Because players love changing coaches every year.

The true 6th man

“This is your destiny, Mr. Monk. The truest 6th man will fix man.”

This is like our best signing ever
Means he feels like he’s got unfinished business here 😤
when do the 2024 jerseys go on sale? because I'm buying a Monk one ASAP
I bought the City Edition one before the season ended in fear that I might not be able to buy one if he leaves.
Now you gotta but the new city edition one lol
I've been wanting a '23 Statement one with Monk. This just pushed me to actually do it haha
Same!
Give him a statue in DOCO
He’s the heart and soul of the team
Put his jersey in the rafters, that’s how much I love this man
Monk jerseys about to fly off the shelves
Hell fuckin yeah. So stoked.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
How can he negotiate with other teams? The man has a living crown growing on his head.
🫡
Gotta love the dude for it <3
I am literally so happy
His agent almost certainly made some calls to see what else is out there but I don't want to split hairs, this is great news.
He'd be a bad agent if he didn't

This is all I needed to hear today 🥺
Wow!! Was fully expecting him to leave us for more money and would've totally understood. MONK IS LOVE MONK IS LIFE
Always felt in my heart Malik was gonna be loyal as long as he could get good money. He thrived in Sac, and has had some struggles elsewhere. I’m happy he stayed though
Malik is the mf man !!!

This man must NEVER be booed again!
I’m still hella curious as to what other teams offered or would have
Fuck yeah
great news! can somebody also break down where we stand now in terms of salary cap etc to make additional moves?
I think we still have the MLE of 12.5. Pretty sure we can bundle that, Barnes, Huerter, and picks to get us another impact player.
Culture shift
I was reading this and waiting to read a different team. Nice surprise!
Hell yeah! Malik the King!
fuck the magic
Build this man a statue for that level of loyalty!
Supposedly getting interest at $22-$25 million a year from other teams. Which is crazy because he would be walking away from another $12-$24 million…..I hope his next contract is even bigger than that.
Oh hell yes!
What do I do with my hands?!?!
I was SO WRONG about this contract situation.
This is beyond huge for us ! Let’s get it Sac
I love him for real.
Now I can purchase a Monk jersey. Epic.
Awesome News!
My favorite player since Mitch Richmond.
My favorite player ❤️❤️
Just got paid today, buying the man's jersey 👑
So, is he a starter now? Ellis off the bench?
I’ll still never forgive Luka. Welcome back, Monk!
THE King!
He definitely tested out free agency
So many companies were offering free pizza, free tires and golf. Other teams would have had to compete with all these offers.
Thank you!!!
Getting paid and playing with one of your best friends is a W
Go ahead and build the statue
A king!
This makes me so Happy.
Respect to my Dawg. He really like dat.
A real one 👑
Time to retire #0

This man is going to get a huge ovation on Opening Night.
