Airport is extremely important. Very few cities have an Airport Metro station. Delhi, Lucknow and Chennai come to my mind. Hyderabad Airport line was cancelled and Bangalore is at least a decade away. Mumbai has a station but outside the airport.

See how the Bullet train project was delayed due to inacquisiton of land in Maharashtra by the Uddhav govt. Now that the BJP alliance came, the whole acquisition process was completed.
For any metro line in Kolkata, you have to shift the slum dwellers living here besides footpaths, railway line etc. We all know who these slum dwellers are, and which parties supports them.
I remember hoardings promising a 2007 - 2012 deadline when the work started. And I thought to myself, that's too late, I won't be able to use it to go to college. Good job.

At this point, they cannot afford to keep the infrastructure idle. And contractors need to be paid.

3. Land acquisition is difficult due to unionism of auto-bus wallahs, and due to difficulty in removing illegal encroachments, by those who should not be named? Who supports these illegal structures, encroachments and slums? Centre or state?
4. And after prolonged, when the project is finally completed, you want to give credit to those who are responsible for such delay. If it was Mamata's brain child, then she should have been extra-forceful for it's implementation. What stopped her?
5. A metro project takes 5 years optimally to be completed. This project was visioned in 2008-09. What took such long time, even when your alliance was in the centre?
6. What stops Mamata to cooperate with the centre for her people's betterment?

This project was going steady until Mamata withdrew support in 2012 .Post 2014 it was further put into cold storage with minimal allotment of funds , extreme burecratic redtape only because its a non- BJP state. Land was never an issue here but railways stubborn attittude in determination of compensation to land owners and bowbazar incident due to faulty tunnel boring made matters worse
