This appears to from [Seokjeon Daeje ceremony](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seokjeon_Daeje), a ritualistic Confucian ceremony to commomorate the birth and the death of Confucius. The type of dance performed during Seokjeon Daeje is called Paril-mu or Munmyo-ilmu dance. These dancers don't actually perform the instruments. Here, the dancers line up in a 8x8 formation of 64 people where they perform two types of ceremonial dances: the mun(文) [the scholarship] and the mu(武) [the warriorship]. What you are seeing is the dancers that are representing the mun by **holding the flute [악;籥] on the left hand, and a stylized bird feather [적;翟] on the right hand**. These dancers are not actually playing the flute as a musical instrument, although musical instruments not shown in the photo are definitely played during the ceremony. You can see the part of actual ceremony involving the dance on [this youtube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRgvvA6CPZs&ab_channel=Koreanet).

Thankyou for the thoughtful reply. I should have specified more. The stylized bird feather that you refer to, it looks like it's made with bells? I was hoping to find out more about what that is called specifically. Thankyou so much for your reply!

It is called 적(翟). [This article](https://www.cultureline.kr/webgear/board_pds/11333/[%202%20]%20%E2%85%A1.%20%EC%84%9D%EC%A0%84%EB%8C%80%EC%A0%9C%20%EC%A0%9C%EC%9D%98%20%EC%A7%84%ED%96%89%EA%B3%BC%EC%A0%95.pdf) explains the details of the ceremony and many instruments have the pictures and names listed. 적 is on page 32, the second picture.
