Just realised the entirety of the video is shot in Thailand omg finally šššš loving the Thai people she showed as well. The credit list in the description has so many Thai people too šš
Oh wow, I'm listening to it now and I realize I've actually heard it before! Not sure exactly where from, but it definitely sounds familiar, and not just because of the sample.
Not me thinking she had sampled Rihanna (Same Olā Mistakes) upon hearing it and now realizing that the original has always been from Tame Impala š
Thatās where i stand, too. The sound of it doesnāt do much for me on first listen, but the music video was really fun! I loved how they played around with the hooded figures rhythmically and visually!
i think the point was everyone understands hai hai, its like 1 of the 4 most basic japanese words everyone knows. And the line wasn't just aimed at japanese listeners, but thai/english/korean.
It's supposed to be an international rockstar anthem which is why it's all english. a verse in any one language limits the audience scope. This parallels with Lisa not limiting herself to just one culture but is an international rockstar, the concept of the song. It also explains why the english/lyrics are pretty basic.
Can't sub them in because the stress is on different syllables which affects the flow: JA-pa-NESE / ko-RE-an
That line has an iambic stress pattern (i.e alternating stressed and unstressed syllables): LI-sa TEACH me JA-pa-NESE
I agree that the lyrics could use... a lot of work, but that's definitely the reason behind that particular choice
For that part I was trying to figure it out and it felt #1 like she can flex that she speaks multiple languages which is awesome, but then also #2 it could be that sheās shading/calling out all the ignorant people she meets who probably ask that, but I canāt tell if Iām overthinking it š
She says it kind of in a shady tone (or so it sounds to me), so definitely could be shade. At first I didn't get this lyric so it stood out to me in a bad way, but it's actually pretty smart if it's the second (nothing wrong with bragging about her language skills either tho, just a bit random).
I was thinking that maybe she was shading the people she thought she was Japanese cause that may be the only Asian country they know but I also may be overthinking it
Itās surely a shade. As a Thai whenever I went aboard and people see asian. They assume Iām Chinese or Japanese. Like it was only two countries that is Asian.
I think it could very well be reason #2. In addition to just being a bar that matched as a part of a couplet. This part: ""Lisa, can you teach me Japanese?" I said, "hai, hai"/That's my life, life, baby, I'm a rockstar." With "hai, hai" and "life, life" both filling in the same part of the beat. You'll also notice in this verse a focus on repetition: "la,la," "hai, hai", "life, life". It really just could be part of the song composition with "hai, hai" being the right amount of syllables.
Yeah, I totally read it as shade against ignorance, especially with the music video flicking between the faces of the Asian girls in identical white hoodies singing the lyrics 'Lisa can you teach me Japanese? I said *hai hai*', like they're all being amalgamated and losing their identities as individuals. I also think this is why the music vid opened with a clear celebration of her Thai roots.
Lisa is fluent in Thai, Korean, and English, and in 2019, she said had basic conversational proficiency in Japanese and Chinese. I imagine she's gotten a lot better since then.
I actually love the synth drop so much, when I first heard it I felt like I was levitating.
Enjoyed this a lot more than her past solo releases. I thought the music video editing was sick and she was able to showcase some cool choreo more.
Some of the lyrics were a bit strange but thatās to be expected and honestly welcomed (iām a sucker for cringe lyrics idc idc)
Last year they actually suspended Lisa from Weibo/etc. (same with a bunch of other notable Chinese/etc. celebrities) because she was in Paris... for a burlesque/cabaret/etc. show, lol, Crazy Horse Paris.
Censorship is crazy out there in Mainland China. Everyone getting docked for the slightest things, smh lmao.
She is still there, her ads are still up, she also recently released her ad for Chinese listeners. Her weibo account is gone, fanbase, ads, everything is still there.
Can't wait to see Jordan Orme dissecting this MV!
Knowing it's Blackpink, i think he will do the reaction and post it within days instead of waiting a week
There's an interesting theory in the YouTube comments:
> It's basically Lisa talking about how many Westerners treat Asian people as only Japanese/Chinese and then answers with frames showing multiple different Thai women
Might be overanalyzing but it'd be a nice touch
I need the performance ASAP. The proper use of back up dancers and the snippets of the choreography looked so good already.
Lisa's vocals ate and the part where she harmonized, I was sceptical but she proved me wrong.
And the song is a bit addictive, like it's already in my head.
such a good music video. the budget is there but it doesnāt feel as overwhelming as a typical blackpink video so i can actually SEE HER and enjoy the visuals.
the song is great too. easily her best song for me so far. i love love love the production of the ending but overall, this is so good!!! so excited to see what the members of blackpink sound like after getting away from teddy and yg; lisa really impressed me
funny.. i thought it was low budget at first but then those freezing frames and camera works aren't cheap. I'm so used used to with KPOP style music videos (one verse, one set)
the budget is definitel;y there and I'm enjoying the music video more than any recent kpop music videos
i still think if she doesn't refer herself a lot in the lyrics and have them be more universal, the song will be more enjoyable to others.. when you name-drop yourself, the song is about you 100% and doesn't allow the listeners to become a part of it.
there's a reason why money was a much bigger success than LaLisa
don't kill me, /r/kpop or blinks
What that song had going for it was the lyrics came across less as āIāM [insert full name of famous recording artist who really wants you to know this is their song] HEY DID YOU HEAR ME SAY MY NAAAAAAMEā and more āIām still a regular girl you know with a normal name youād recognize.ā Markedly less annoying.
A lot more people are going to be able to connect with āIām still connected to my roots despite achieving successā than āI am very wealthy and like to buy a lot of things for myselfā haha
Pitbull is more of a meme though like DJ Khaled in that they mostly only do exclamations.
Iāve seen the rise of Pitbull before Anglo speaking countries found him when he did Culo and even back then he wasnāt taken seriously.
The man really found his niche and made something out of nothing.
Lisa has the potential to be so much more than that. I want her to achieve her potential and not limit herself in that way.
I dunno, there's always space for an artist who is unapologetically self-centred in their persona. Beyonce's Sasha Fierce era and a lot of what Charli XCX is all about that. I think a listener can feel connected to it through proxying themselves into that. A singer doesn't need to say "I'm that bitch and so are you" for you to get into it. Sometimes hearing "I'm that bitch" can make you feel like that bitch on its own, you know?
> thereās a reason why money was a much bigger success than LaLisa
I donāt believe inserting her name in the song has anything to do with it being better than Lalisa. Money is just a better song, period. Lalisa sounded like a typical Teddy BP song while Money was something totally different.
Brag rap is a HUGE subculture of hip hop, and I'm pretty sure she's attracting just as many different listeners who LOVE to hear a rapper hype themselves up as she's losing in listeners who want to personally relate to the music they listen to.
Is the mixing good on IEMs/headphones? Too sleepy right now to check. Feels like they messed up her vocals and the bass/production.
Lisa looking like she came to slay as always though (probably got a katana/shuriken/etc. for that Japanese hai hai, rofl), wish the video was in 4K since it's only with 1080p right now. ćÆć na ko, lol.
Because there are 3 lines repeated four times, a rap and a minute of "I am a rockstar".
Going to be downvoted, but any other than a BP member would be crucified coming out with this song.
The beats and production are CRAZY. I love this kind of music and I think it's the right direction for Lisa. I think the edits on tik tok to this song are gonna be nuts and I can't wait
For me itās tops Lalisa and Money pretty easily.
the MV, sets, choreo, outfits were all pretty dope. Lyrics a bit repetitive but nothing to jarring. You can tell the editing is a little different than the typical YG MV.
Also asking a Thai kpop idol releasing an English song to teach you Japanese is pretty funny.
This is an excellent kick off to the post-YG solo releases
Man, there were so many cool visual choreo moments in this video, and it actually HELD on them so I could see how cool it looked, and how cool she looked. She looks STUNNING, and this song is great.
I like the beat and the outro, but lyrically this does nothing for me. It didn't feel like it went anywhere and the length is pretty short. It'll probably grow on me and I think it has a lot of potential for a great live performance, but on first impression of the studio version this isn't really my thing.
I feel the same way. I feel like its one of those songs that are better live. I know she is going to devour those live performances. I just wish it had more structure and it was longer ten it would have been perfect to me.
-Production is great
-Video is great
-Lyrics are meh and repetitive, although the "teach me Japanese" line is def an ear worm
-Vocals are a bit too auto-tuned or something. I would not be able to tell the singing was Lisa, the rap sounds like her
I'm still left wondering WHO is Lisa. I hope she has some more introspective songs on her album. As of now, I know she likes money and being famous. I'd like to hear something from her that explores her inner world and thoughts more.
7/10, fun song and great lead single.
Idk, I donāt think the whole āexplore your inner worldā vibe is very Lisa at all? Sheās always been the power baddie, and I think the creative direction in Rockstar feels *so* her. Iām so happy Lisa gets to drive her own brand now :)
If she ever does something more introspective though, I hope we get some 90ās R&B vibes. That would be cool.
Such a good point. All of the bravado has worn a little thin. A pivot to more personal material would be so welcome and would definitely help her step out of the ākpopā mould which she is obviously trying to do.
This, tbh. Honestly, I'm not sure we should actually expect more personal material from Lisa. She seems content banking on her image at a surface-level and is obviously very careful at maintaining that image.
Not yāall downvoting me š I like the beat but I think the lyrics is kinda repetitive and the song is too short. But Iām certain itāll grow on me
I wasnāt sure what to expect because while Lalisa was nice, it wasnāt really my style, and I didnāt like Money, but I really liked this one! Super catchy, even if I personally think that some more variety on the lyrics would have been nice (though then again, maybe that repetitiveness is what helps make it so catchy). The styling was also pretty cool, that silver fit at the end looks so good on her.
Like it better than her other songs but, thatās not saying much for me. I donāt love it or hate it. This style fits her stage personality well though. Happy she is making music she wants. I am out of the loop, is lloud her company?
I like it overall but the "lisa can you teach me japanese I said hai hai" is really taking me out, in a bad way, lol. like it doesn't fit with the rockstar theme?
That line is so random to me because she's not Japanese?? Is she notorious for her japanese or something? You'd think it'd be something about being Thai
Thatās totally fair. (Though I love the āHai Haiā.) I think, (I could be wrong), that itās either commenting on 1) being a pro kpop star in Korea who knows Japanese might have made her the ācool girlā among kpop stars. (Of course a lot of people know or speak Japanese, but Lisa knows Thai, Korean, English, AND Japanese. It could have been something that Kpop stars, or even some of her own group members, asked her about.) Her saying āthatās my life, baby Iām a rockstarā might be her saying āI learned Japanese (and English, and Korean). Of course, this does not make her the most unique Kpop idol, but itās the life of a Kpop idol. The life of a worldwide ārockstarā. 2) It could be the fact that people in the west donāt know that South East Asians exist. Itās sort of a meta troll that sheās singing about BKK, but people are only going to remember āJapaneseā. 3) āLisa can you teach me Japanese I say Hai Haiā just sounds better than āLisa can you teach me Thai I say dai dai.ā (Actually, Google is telling me that the concept of the word āyesā is a little more complicated in Thai. Interesting) anyway, I think itās deeper. Might not be, but it could be.
Totally agree with all those points, i think all that gives insight to how much kpop see language, image and overall character of a kpop artist.
Just imo again hahaa i think she can do more, if she still wanna hold onto the role of hers as a rapper in during and after blackpink , she could do more and show that versatility, lyricism and the language switch in lyrics would be really nice. Like soyeon (she is sooo cool ugh, her rap game is serious, i love her sm), one of my favorite raps from her was from KDA more, there she showed her rapping skills that with that even in english and korean certain words sounded the same and the english and korean can blend soo beautifully. While maintaining a narrative and character that she has for that rap and character in kda.
I think, it would be a total super upgrade from Lisa if she have lyrics which included her being multilingual, i mean that be go really crazy cool. Like damn lisa cant be tamed in any language cuz can she can speak them all even in rap!
And yeah, soyeon and lisa are different artists, with different passions, interests and styles. I just thought if Lisa wanna be one of those cool rappers she wants to be, i think a little upgrade wouldnt be so bad.
But she is Lisa and this is her song, she can decide whatever she wants to do with her music :))
just imo i think it would be badass of her to have a lyric in thai so it will sound more of authentically herself. i think that would slap harder than the "can you teach me japanese line". for us listeners it would make us shook our heads " oh she rapped / spoke in thai!!"
Sounds good, but it seems like she repeated the same three lines over and over again lol. Lyrics not my cup of tea, but the beat and music video slaps.
Okay, I've been thinking about it. Do we think the 'Lisa can you teach me Japanese,' line is a reference to the J-rock star LiSA? Like maybe people are confusing her for the other Lisa?
Anyway, I really like the song. The visuals are stunning, she looks gorgeous. The lyrics are a bit more repetitive that I'd hoped but I love the instrumental and the sample used!
This feels so unapologetically Lisa, this is an ear worm and a half! The beat, the lyrics, the style and the choreography are all almost perfect for her from a casual BlackPink fanās perspective who isnāt the most aware of the girls personally. And the MV too makes her and the extras stand out SO much!
My only complaint ironically enough is that is shouldāve been just a tiny bit longer, maybe a bridgeā¦ spare bridge maāamā¦
āBaby Iām a rockstarā LIKE YES YOU ARE MISS LALISA!
Oh man this is so catchy, I can already tell it's gonna be stuck in my head for the foreseeable future! Lisa looks amazing, and the music video is so cool, too! I love how she filmed it in Thailand.
It's a better sound than lalisa but the song didn't feel complete for me. It felt like the chorus was 80% of the song, and then overall the song felt short. Two minutes and some extra? Listening to the audio alone would make it feel like a ringtone or something. I'm still wondering where the rest of the song is.
And while this chorus is better than "Say Lalisa love me, Lalisa love me" it's still not great enough to be repeated so many times throughout the song. It was banging in the intro though
I kinda expected more. Oh well
Ehhh... the lyrics were distractingly cringey. I'm glad she's on her own but there's no substance to anything she says in here. The MV is really cool but I probably won't listen to this song ever again. One and done for me.
Repetitive lyrics is a trend now a days??! 1 verse repeated literally 4,5 times in a 2:48 video is something to be worked on, that too without a proper final corus... I like the rap part though... But it'll get millions of views, top charts as usual.... People just get fed on literally anything these days lmao..Ā
It feels like Lalisa again, like just repeating the same lyrics over and over again. The Japanese line was cute but when it was repeated like 7 times it was kinda of cringe. I still think Money is better than this, I felt this went nowhere? I couldnāt tell if there were verses. I also couldnāt really understand her rap and Iād have to look at the lyrics to see how hard it went. I feel like if you want a rap song to do good on billboard and play on the radio, the rap lyrics have to have good play on words and understandable somewhat
Interested by all the various takes on the Japanese line...my first thought was for the wordplay with Japanese -> Hai Hai = High High -> That's my Life Life = she's living the high life as a rockstar.
Bro with this instrumental she could have spent the whole song gargling and i would have still given it a 10/10 wtf the producer team is insane for this
Well that was boring. Cadence was completely monotone for everything but the short rap section. Generic electronic beat 17 didn't help matters whatsoever. There was no escalation or crescendo to it whatsoever, at least your typical Blackpink song has that usually.
TBH I didnāt expect much from Lisa as an artist considering her previous singles but out of sheer curiosity I still listened to this and came away disappointed. Her music still lacks real quality and depth. I love fun singles but this barely qualifies as music. Itās literally a chant on the same beat for 2mins. Poor
As many others are saying whyyy so repetitive and short š like itās so close to being a banger but feels like sheās just saying the same thing over and over. I love the silver set in the mv though and I hope she continues to rep Thailand even harder down the line. Would love some singing and rapping in Thai.
Ready to see how many views it gets in 24 hours though šæ
Sheās my Ult but I was a little underwhelmed and then I thought to listen on my ear buds and wow, the difference was huge. Sonically it just kicked and the video started to pop more for me. The thing is this is barely kpop-adjacent at this point. This is pure western music.
I was expecting something along the same vein of LALISA but holy shit this is so good and so fun likeeee she really did that!!!!!!! Love the vocals too!
it was fine. definitely not bad by any means, but I expect to really be wowed when it comes to the bp girlies and I wasn't š
I'm obsessed with that star top though, fav part of this whole vid
Just realised the entirety of the video is shot in Thailand omg finally šššš loving the Thai people she showed as well. The credit list in the description has so many Thai people too šš
Wow I need some time to process everything I just saw and heard. The silver outfit part was my fave wish that vibe was more prominent in the song.Ā
Same. I LOVED that she sampled Tame Impala and I think her vocals there were just so mesmerizing. I wish the song was built around THAT part.
yesss that sample was fire and the direction of the music video at that point was gorgeous. Really wasnāt expecting this from Lisa.
i knew something sounded familiar!! which tame impala song is it exactly? because i am obsessed with how seamless ROCKSTAR used it
New Person, Same Old Mistakes!
Wow! That is actually very interesting, one of Tame Impalaās best tracks.
Oh wow, I'm listening to it now and I realize I've actually heard it before! Not sure exactly where from, but it definitely sounds familiar, and not just because of the sample.
Rihanna also covers it on anti and itās called Same Ol Mistakes. Maybe thatās where you heard it?
Not me thinking she had sampled Rihanna (Same Olā Mistakes) upon hearing it and now realizing that the original has always been from Tame Impala š
I KNEW I heard that. The first time I heard that song was the Rihanna version thoš
Had the same thought. The choreo in that part looked really good too
I think the video is really cool, she looks great and I'm sure this will be a hit. it just not my style of music, but I think it will do amazing.
Thatās where i stand, too. The sound of it doesnāt do much for me on first listen, but the music video was really fun! I loved how they played around with the hooded figures rhythmically and visually!
Beautiful comment. I love the style personally, but youāre wise enough to know it was a cool package.
Lisa can you teach me Japanese š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗ
she said HAI HAI
Those lines kill me lol
nmixx pls stop replying to my comments and come back with a full album soon, thank you xx
Haewon what are you doing here on the NMIXX account
Um NMIXX please tell me ur next tt has mixxpop š
Imagine if she switched the language to like Thai or Korean throughout the song š but theyāre not enough syllables lol
I kinda wish she changed one of them up to "Lisa teach me Japanese, but I'm Thai Thai" š
I was watching the MV with my wife who's Thai - she said Lisa should have said, "Can you teach me Thai - chai chai (yes yes)"
Or Dai, Dai (Ofc, Ofc)
So much better???? Hai Hai is not a representation of her language skills at all.
i think the point was everyone understands hai hai, its like 1 of the 4 most basic japanese words everyone knows. And the line wasn't just aimed at japanese listeners, but thai/english/korean. maybe not Thai but the words Japanese and Korean both have 3 syllables each in English. Ja-pan-ese Ko-re-an
āė¤ ė¤ā doesnāt have the same ring to it imo !

_[Apink has entered the chat]_

Felt kinda weird and out of place to me, but does it have anything to do with her being confused with the actual Japanese LiSA?
For that part I was trying to figure it out and it felt #1 like she can flex that she speaks multiple languages which is awesome, but then also #2 it could be that sheās shading/calling out all the ignorant people she meets who probably ask that, but I canāt tell if Iām overthinking it š

I liked the way her voice sounded this time. For some reason her solo songs, especially money, don't really tune her voice well.Ā
this. MV is great but iām sorry lyrics couldāve been better, too repetitive makes it cringe
Yup especially the Japanese hai hai partšš
I just thought that was funny, to be honest.
I disagree, I liked that part for some reason, it's funny and catchy.
that was legit my favorite part haha
Her Chinese social credit is droppingš
Last year they actually suspended Lisa from Weibo/etc. (same with a bunch of other notable Chinese/etc. celebrities) because she was in Paris... for a burlesque/cabaret/etc. show, lol, Crazy Horse Paris. Literally thought the same thing while watching the music videoš
Bro I just checked after reading your comment. He just uploaded it šš
Yeah š¤£š¤£š¤£ Gotta get those views! (But also great analysis as always, really agree with him that THE EDITORS POPPED OFF)
I was feeling like oh this is the repetitiveness we saw from Lalisa and money, and then that drop happened, idc if it's repetitive that's dank..
"Lisa can you teach me Japanese I said Hai Hai" Is going to be stuck in my head for the foreseeable future.
There's an interesting theory in the YouTube comments: > It's basically Lisa talking about how many Westerners treat Asian people as only Japanese/Chinese and then answers with frames showing multiple different Thai women Might be overanalyzing but it'd be a nice touch
that's giving songwriter too much credit... lets be honest it was poor in lyrics, even tho i love lisa.
I don't understand why so many people think this explaination is a reach? It's a very simple joke/burn. It's not "too deep" or anything...
It's literally stuck in my head on repeat already lol
I need the performance ASAP. The proper use of back up dancers and the snippets of the choreography looked so good already. Lisa's vocals ate and the part where she harmonized, I was sceptical but she proved me wrong. And the song is a bit addictive, like it's already in my head.
All I could think watching the MV is oh this is gonna be a PERšFORšMANCEš song, cannot wait to see the full choreo!
such a good music video. the budget is there but it doesnāt feel as overwhelming as a typical blackpink video so i can actually SEE HER and enjoy the visuals. the song is great too. easily her best song for me so far. i love love love the production of the ending but overall, this is so good!!! so excited to see what the members of blackpink sound like after getting away from teddy and yg; lisa really impressed me

Nah nah it was directed by Henry Scholfield. Definitely not low budget.
This MV definitely reminds me of her Tomboy dance performance video and I LOVE IT. It's so good. Definitely an upgrade from Lalisa and Money.
agreed. itās not overwhelming but still excellent.
holy shit this is a huge step in the right direction from lalisa and money she came to serve visually and sonically and im obsessed
I can see this popping off live in a concert so hard
Right? This is so much better than her debut
i still think if she doesn't refer herself a lot in the lyrics and have them be more universal, the song will be more enjoyable to others.. when you name-drop yourself, the song is about you 100% and doesn't allow the listeners to become a part of it. there's a reason why money was a much bigger success than LaLisa don't kill me, /r/kpop or blinks
this is true! but there are some outliers, Jenny From The Block by JLo for example was a hit

Lady Gaga, Slim Shady, Janet Jackson, Backstreet Boys... it's not all that uncommon honestly.
Jason Derulo and Pitbull would beg to differ.
Pitbull is more of a meme though like DJ Khaled in that they mostly only do exclamations. Iāve seen the rise of Pitbull before Anglo speaking countries found him when he did Culo and even back then he wasnāt taken seriously. Why does it feel like there are 3 lines of lyrics. I was waiting for something to happen bit it doesnt.
There are literally only 22 unique lines in the entire song. About half of the lines are repeated at least once
Lyricism is dead lol.
Lyricism from YG artists died with Bigbang.
because it was made for the sole purpose of tiktokers using it as their BGM
Thatās the new trend in music industry nowadays.
Definitely not true lol. The current trendy artists have better lyrics.
Because there are 3 lines repeated four times, a rap and a minute of "I am a rockstar". Going to be downvoted, but any other than a BP member would be crucified coming out with this song.
Tons of other artists come out with music this repetitive though
I agree with that, but it slays so I dont care lol
obsessed with this energy lmaoooo
I think thereās certainly a place for that in music still, but I understand wanting something simple and catchy for the first come back in years.
Felt like it was building to some sick crescendo chorus that just never came.
getting some serious M.I.A vibes from this song, and love it
Was scrolling to see if anyone else made the connection. Mixes well with Bad Girls by M.I.A
this song did not waste time getting started
honestly im pleasantly surprised
same here - money and lalisa just werenāt for me but this feels like a really cool and fresh step up from both of those and i really enjoyed it!
ITS TOO SHORT WHYYY SHE WENT ALL OUT ON THIS VID
Right atleast 4min would have been good
The beats and production are CRAZY.
God Iām loving Blackpinkās post-YG era so much
the bass goes INSANE
It's Tame Impala after all!
"Hai, hai"? Girl you're Thai, Thai!
Wait I wish she really said āGirl Iām Thai, Thaiā in the lyrics because that would actually be some fun word play š„¹
that went HARD AF!!!!
It's too short :( I really like it though
There's an extended version. It's still less than 3 minutes though....
>Regular version: 2:18 >Extended: 2:45 we're playing fast and loose with what the phrase "extended mix" means lmao
and for those people for whom 2+ minutes is too long, there is a [sped up version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImZJW2FGZjA) at 1:50 min
Yeah, as usual, this is more of a hype song, I guess.
It felt almost anti hype to meāyou canāt give me such a great beat for the outro. I was starting to feel it and then itās just over
Another ābraggingā song. Wish she would sing about some other topic
I feel the same way. I feel like its one of those songs that are better live. I know she is going to devour those live performances. I just wish it had more structure and it was longer ten it would have been perfect to me.
THEY SAY LISA CAN YOU TEACH ME JAPANESE? I SAID HAI HAI ![gif](giphy|RX7N03MEUafW8)
-Production is great -Video is great -Lyrics are meh and repetitive, although the "teach me Japanese" line is def an ear worm -Vocals are a bit too auto-tuned or something. I would not be able to tell the singing was Lisa, the rap sounds like her I'm still left wondering WHO is Lisa.
Iām so happy Lisa gets to drive her own brand now :) If she ever does something more introspective though, I hope we get some 90ās R&B vibes.
She seems content banking on her image at a surface-level and is obviously very careful at maintaining that image.
pretty good and very solid comeback single, but very short š I needed another verse and a bridge and final chorus ma'am!
That was a cute mv. She looked so good! Didn't really vibe with the song but she ate.
Thereās about 3 lyrics, itās short, has a sped up version. Iām so over the tiktokification of music bro.
This SLAPSSSSSS omg šš©
Itās ok, itāll grow on me like how money and lalisa did
Not yāall downvoting me š I like the beat but I think the lyrics is kinda repetitive and the song is too short. But Iām certain itāll grow on me
Gives me Tokyo Drift vibes
I love the beat but I do feel like it's missing a verse/more lyrics.
I like this a lot more than I expected to. The music video is really beautiful and interesting.
Not for me, but I'm glad people like it.
Yes, LLOUD is her new company!
idk abt the song yet but to ppl who said blackpink is nothing without yg, this really proves them wrong
Not for me..Mv is pretty cool tho
I also wasnāt sure about it, but when I thought she was shading ignorant people while also flexing her language skills, I appreciated it more
Yeah, that line felt weird.
just imo i think it would be badass of her to have a lyric in thai so it will sound more of authentically herself. i think that would slap harder than the "can you teach me japanese line". for us listeners it would make us shook our heads " oh she rapped / spoke in thai!!"
Sounds good, but it seems like she repeated the same three lines over and over again lol. Lyrics not my cup of tea, but the beat and music video slaps.
I donāt really think sheās fundamentally moved away from the Teddy sound and that is a little disappointing to me.
Itās a vibeeeee
Okay, I've been thinking about it. Do we think the 'Lisa can you teach me Japanese,' line is a reference to the J-rock star LiSA? Like maybe people are confusing her for the other Lisa? Anyway, I really like the song. The visuals are stunning, she looks gorgeous. The lyrics are a bit more repetitive that I'd hoped but I love the instrumental and the sample used!
BITCH I KNEW SHE WOULD EATTTTTTTT
This feels so unapologetically Lisa, this is an ear worm and a half! The beat, the lyrics, the style and the choreography are all almost perfect for her from a casual BlackPink fanās perspective who isnāt the most aware of the girls personally. And the MV too makes her and the extras stand out SO much! My only complaint ironically enough is that is shouldāve been just a tiny bit longer, maybe a bridgeā¦ spare bridge maāamā¦ āBaby Iām a rockstarā LIKE YES YOU ARE MISS LALISA!
The Japanese line is so catchy and funny LOL š
* The video is cool, especially the slow-mo parts * I wish there were more singing parts (I love her tone), I think singer Lisa > rapper Lisa
This song. Hahaha. I think she's saying she's a rockstar baby. But if you're not convinced, she says it 10000 more times.
Lyrics are hot garbage but the beat is really catchy which is all that matters these days I guess.
Oh man this is so catchy, I can already tell it's gonna be stuck in my head for the foreseeable future! Lisa looks amazing, and the music video is so cool, too! I love how she filmed it in Thailand.
every song sheās released has been horrible lyrically iām sorry the beat is carrying every single release
It was banging in the intro though I kinda expected more. Oh well
the song wasn't bad but I wouldn't listen to it again
Oh no, I'm not feeling the chorus at all.
Make me rock WHAT?
Girl you heard it right
Fucking WOW. Admittedly I wasn't too big of a fan of her previous songs, but THIS IS AN absolute banger!
THIS IS SO FUCKING GOOD šššš
I'm not really vibin with the song, but the MV is spectacular!
lyrics on repeat.. sounded monotone
Donāt like it as much as Lalisa and Money, but this is a solid comeback and the MV slaps.
As expected it was underwhelming. The teasers were already bad enough so...nothing more to say.
Ehhh... the lyrics were distractingly cringey. I'm glad she's on her own but there's no substance to anything she says in here. The MV is really cool but I probably won't listen to this song ever again. One and done for me.
thank god š this is it!!!
This is amazing. Lisa the rockstar
Repetitive lyrics is a trend now a days??! 1 verse repeated literally 4,5 times in a 2:48 video is something to be worked on, that too without a proper final corus... I like the rap part though... But it'll get millions of views, top charts as usual.... People just get fed on literally anything these days lmao..Ā
meh
Way too repetitive for me and I don't think a lot of the song flows very well.
At 2:00 I felt like I was transported into a Tame Impala x Travis Scott song for a second. Beat goes hard.
I liked it. Really playful song and I can still hear the Japanese hai hai part in my mind lol
Interested by all the various takes on the Japanese line...my first thought was for the wordplay with Japanese -> Hai Hai = High High -> That's my Life Life = she's living the high life as a rockstar.
Bro with this instrumental she could have spent the whole song gargling and i would have still given it a 10/10 wtf the producer team is insane for this
Too repetitive tbh
Well that was boring. Cadence was completely monotone for everything but the short rap section. Generic electronic beat 17 didn't help matters whatsoever. There was no escalation or crescendo to it whatsoever, at least your typical Blackpink song has that usually.
I'm blown tf away BABY SHES A ROCKSTAR
Iām addicted to Rockstar already! š„
My first thought is this would've went hard on the Tokyo Drift soundtrack.
not only have her vocals improved, her dancing has. the "blaccent" is gone and the rap is amazing. WE LOVE THIS LISA!!!!!
I don't really care for kpop but that is awesome . Great video ļ¼great beat
I mean, it was ok. MV was cool but song was kinda just western generic
I havenāt loved her previous releases so this one is def more up my alley! Hope she performs it!
Yuuuuup. This is it
I was expecting something along the same vein of LALISA but holy shit this is so good and so fun likeeee she really did that!!!!!!! Love the vocals too!
I don't understand the context of Japanese, someone explain pls
Itās catchy and a weird line I donāt think thereās any context
it was fine. definitely not bad by any means, but I expect to really be wowed when it comes to the bp girlies and I wasn't š I'm obsessed with that star top though, fav part of this whole vid
It's so bad I'm sorry
Okay this is such a bop!!!
