Yes, random people will stop us to let us know how handsome he is. Or ask what kind of dog he is. Red fox isn't a well known colour here so people have no idea he is a Labrador.

We have a darker yellow (fox red?) lab puppy and people tend to ask if she’s a baby golden retriever.
She doesn’t care what you think she is so long as you’re willing to pet her! Just about everyone loves a bouncy happy lab puppy! And she’s no exception to that sentiment for those types of people. 💛
I have a red fox american lab too and people always stop to ask me what breed she is, and always say "I didn't know that existed!". She always gets compliments on her coloring.
Yup, I walk my 3 boys every day, they love stopping for a quick hello and some love. They actively look for it, and they know and keep a lookout for the neighborhood soft-touches. Yeah I'm easily manipulated and have a lifelong soft spot for Labs...
*quietly prays for your floors* the amount of shedding my one lab does is insane in the coat-blowing season. Cannot imagine how nuts your house is with 3 labs. Do they blow their coats in unison, like how human women’s periods sync up? Lol
I have resigned to the shedding showing up on clothes and furniture. I clean the furniture, but if I go out and my black leggings have dog confetti on them, oh well.
Fact. Labs can also pinpoint other lab owners to their ultimate benefit.
My senior girl doesn’t get out much anymore but dammit if every other lab doesn’t key in on me as a genuine sucker.
Yes. Every day I get comments about how good looking he is and how sweet/well behaved he is. 🥹

Archie gets lots of compliments. We often joke that he is the best looking member of our family. When we moved out of state the entire staff of his daycare was crying. They gave gifts and wrote wonderful notes. Labs touch our lives in ways which are hard to comprehend

I used to work at a daycare and like I’m biased obvs because lab owner, but everyone’s favorites were universally labs. I still think about Caesar, my favorite English lab who was just 95 pounds of goofball. They’ve got endless charisma.

our lab got so much attention until we got our very fluffy keeshond puppy. now he smiles real big at strangers who ask what kind of breed his brother is
I have a black lab and people compliment him all the time. There used to be one lady who changed her morning commute schedule to see my dog every morning and never spoke to me directly. People love how friendly he is, and my coworkers love seeing him everyday. They ask him if he had a good weekend and rarely ask about mine. At restaurants, the staff all compliment my dog especially for his good behavior.
I'm used to this treatment and am well aware that all my friends would pick my lab over me to rescue from a burning building.
I had a black lab whenever I walked him people would stop us and say how beautiful he is. One time in Mexico some old guy in a huge truck was offering me money he really liked him. The whole pueblo knew my dog
Yes. We have a Silver Lab, so they aren't too common. A lot of people always compliment his coat and ask what kind of dog it is, thinking he may be a Weimaraner. Total Lab and total baby. But when we had a Yellow Lab, it was the same thing. People just adore Labs!
I have a silver too. She's a very happy, v sweet girl.
https://preview.redd.it/qbpv6tk1i3ad1.jpeg?width=462&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c769d6919f12de49eb34825e9250984bfec224c2
Yeah, I think they’re just so happy and friendly that people love them straight away. A few people at the park I take my girl to have referred to her as ‘the best dog in the park’. These are people that have dogs of their own.
It’s just so hard not to love labs
Labs are the best breed. Can’t imagine wanting anything else. My 2 year old yellow is disappointed when people don’t want to come over and pet her. She loves everyone!
I got LOADS of compliments about Shelby, my golden retriever, before she passed. Then I got Bandit, a black lab that's just as nice and friendly as Shelby ever was. I get significantly fewer compliments now, and there's definitely a greater chance that people see us and cross the street/parking lot so as not to get too close. Given how much Bandit loves meeting people, it's rather sad and disheartening.
Oh my goodness - people are so silly honestly!!! i have a black lab and the amount of people who act like she’s the monster from hell is crazy!! And she’s very friendly and sweet. I think it’s just because they seem to appear more like a “big, scary” dog (I.e rottweiler, doberman etc) when they are all black!
Yeah, I was walking Bandit once and we were coming up on the pool here at the apartment community I live in. The pool is fenced in, and some kids (maybe 8-10 years old?) were coming out. One of them took a look at us, screamed "Doberman!" and they all screamed and went back in the pool area and closed the fence. Bandit started crying because he wanted to go make friends, and I felt terrible for him.
Obviously I disagree with this (and note, I actually love rottys too!!!) but it happens to me as well. And also a lot of small dog owners picking up their dogs and giving me evils just because my lab enters a park!! As if she would be aggressive - more interested in retrieving her ball and getting pats 😂
A responsible dog owner will know if their dog is going to have a problem with people and they should be the ones to steer away from others. But when in doubt, it never hurts to just ask if a dog is friendly.
I’m a firm believer that goldens and labs are the himbos of the dog world. Beautiful faces, empty heads. They’ve got a lot of charisma. There is a weird stigma about black labs/black dogs in general though. FWIW as a fellow lab owner I would cross the street to meet bandit.

Odin has no idea what you’re talking about, he’s constantly starved of attention.
My 9 month old chocolate gets infinitely more compliments than my last dog (corgi/red heeler) I think it may be that she's generally happier and friendlier, we'll see if that continues when she's an adult dog.
Yes, but she’s been usurped by our new addition, a super pretty working cocker!

We used to get them all the time, because her big brother was so obviously a Labrador, but she didn't have his big head or squared off face that he did. Despite them both being American style labs!
That went away when he passed because on her own she is very obviously a lab, it was only next to him that she looked less Lab-like.
Now her new little brother tends to be mis-identified. Which is at least more understandable given it's a bit more unusual breed and most people can't get over the shock of the size, especially when you add in a Labrador for scale.

Everyone always tells me how great she is while I’m walking her or training. Little do they know, she is a complete crack head 🤣🖤
Sure do! How could a person see this big beautiful boy and not compliment him?

Good boy, Boone!
Yep, compliments as well as comments like, "IS THAT A LAB?!?!" because she's so big.
I work in a co-working space and when I bring her in she's a big hit with my co-workers as well as random folks who also work in the building. They'll go as far as to pop into our office to ask if they can pet her. When I first brought her in she was a nervous nelly and wouldn't leave my side. Now I have to keep her from roaming the halls and trying to go into other offices to say hello.
https://preview.redd.it/dkx6532az5ad1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66110ff8d1d5b4c410ae75e96053332062e8369e
I have a 2 year old yellow lab too and we get a lot of the same compliments, either that or comments saying she is a good walker, etc. makes me feel so proud! 🥹 yesterday on our walk we saw a guy with a red fox yellow lab and he said “they really are the best aren’t they?” I said yes they are 💛💛💛
In my experience it's the color of the lab that makes all the difference. I have a large black lab. Gentle giant that loves to socialize, but people usually give him a wide berth.
If I dogsit my friends labs (yellow and white) we barely make it halfway through our walk before we're stopped multiple times for pets.
Black dog syndrome is a thing.

Yes, regular compliments on what a good boy, great dog, handsome dog, well-trained, etc. he is. I think my favorite was the day we were driving around with windows down and a little girl in the car next to us yelled “I love your dog!” to me at a stoplight. I said “Aww, thanks!”
https://preview.redd.it/31qisxhrs4ad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17a8b7f760b37139935739c905365644fab698aa
Nessie gets a lot of compliments, but our favorite was this older couple walking their dog in the park and the man kept calling her a “dynamite dog” “that’s such a dynamite dog” to the point where his wife and I were cracking up and consoling the other pup.. “don’t you worry you’re dynamite too.”
Yes! I find it's often men in their 60s or 70s that really, really like my black lab. I've had so many of them slow down in their trucks to chat.
https://preview.redd.it/mgitgqrpw4ad1.png?width=829&format=png&auto=webp&s=f4eb3e05f6a985e959bd5a1aa5054806407b5076
The other day I had three separate people ask to take pictures of her for various reasons.
My Daisy girl regularly gets compliments when we’re out and about. She does go out of her way to greet as many people as are willing to say hello as well.

Yes every single day! He’s only five months old but when he was 12 pounds and now that he is 40 pounds it’s a daily occurrence :-) when he was about three months old he actually stopped traffic and the guy yelled out the window ha ha

His handsome looks draws their attention and his enthusiastic friendliness wins their hearts. On his first day of puppy class, he immediately became the trainer’s favorite. The trainer commented a couple times that our boy should star in a Budweiser commercial 😄 (not sure if it’s cuz he’s cute or was acting like a crazy drunk lmao)
my girl gets compliments wherever we go! my husband and i joke that she’s the best looking member of the family 😂 i’ve had people go out of their way to come up and dote on her
https://preview.redd.it/a48hmkqxu5ad1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=226a49c664e4938dd0d178bda893937655c56b1f

My baby (white) and his buddy (neighbor’s copper) are always getting compliments. However, a lot of the time people think they’re mixed or not of Labrador breed! I don’t think the people in my area have seen enough labs 😂
When I walk our 1 year old girl, when we get to the edge of the pavement to cross, she will stop, sit down and look up at me. At that point, we usually get a couple of drivers making 'aww' faces at her.
Yes❤️ My boy gets compliments because he just looks SO happy with his big smile. He’s a sweetest and it shows. Sometimes I find people just looking at him with smile on their own face!
Yes people always say how beautiful mine is and often ask to pet him. My problem is that mine is a bit moody and sometimes he loves the attention, while other times he’ll bark. I think it may have something to do with some people owning cats or certain breeds he has beef with (he really can’t stand French or English bulldogs for some reason).
I had the same experience with my Emma……people would always ask if I can pet her💕
Especially when I took her to Canadian Tire with me- I would get sooooo many compliments on how beautiful she is 😊
https://preview.redd.it/kjol5nsol6ad1.jpeg?width=585&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b9374aad0585566cd8f3089c497a41ea00abe79
My angel always got compliments on how beautiful he was.
Get it all the time with Winnie, but not the previous two. My pet theory is that with poodle mixes being so prevalent these days, people are more impressed by full labs than they used to be.
Yep can’t go anywhere fast - also doesn’t help that he’s been known to literally plonk his bum down in front of people and look up wagging! Not that he’s needy!
My lab mix has one poor old lady in my neighborhood eating out of her hands so much that this lady bring a a treat whenever she’s on a walk for her just on the off chance we meet.
My Labrador gets compliments like: "handsome, very good looking Lab, well-behaved, sweet, smart." My Lab gets his compliments and his pet and he moves along. He loves people but... he's got better things to do like sniffing grass. 😅
But my Golden he gets all kinds of compliments! Mainly that he's very "pretty" and "well behaved". V& everybody wants to pet him & he wants everyone to pet him. It's gotta be the big ol smile he fools everybody with. He literally goes up to everyone, sits with a goofy smile on his face staring at everyone waiting to be petted. He goes up to everyone one by one like they each owe him pets. Super cute and embarrassing for the owner, me, when he overstays his welcome. 🤣 But seriously, everyone can pet him and baby talk him for days.

We get lots of compliments from people in cars and walking their own dogs on how beautiful they are. Especially from other lab owners😍
Labs capture your heart and never let go❤️
Our girl is a labXmastiff and gets stopped constantly. Our mantra is 'Everybody loves Morley'! Except they mostly call her him and/or Marley lol

Which is at least more understandable given it's a bit more unusual breed and most people can't get over the shock of the size, especially when you add in a Labrador for scale. https://preview.redd.it/hkrh8jgir3ad1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c8f913789eed2cad0d29e74fac9abc7cf66eb5e

Sure do! How could a person see this big beautiful boy and not compliment him? https://preview.redd.it/z1vwbd4su4ad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4d9ba76a36e840131dcc8009be4bafc2a0ee81f Good boy, Boone!
🥹 yesterday on our walk we saw a guy with a red fox yellow lab and he said “they really are the best aren’t they?” I said yes they are 💛💛💛
My yellow lab has more friends than me

In my experience it's the color of the lab that makes all the difference. I have a large black lab. Gentle giant that loves to socialize, but people usually give him a wide berth. If I dogsit my friends labs (yellow and white) we barely make it halfway through our walk before we're stopped multiple times for pets. Black dog syndrome is a thing.

I think my favorite was the day we were driving around with windows down and a little girl in the car next to us yelled “I love your dog!” to me at a stoplight. I said “Aww, thanks!”

Yes! I find it's often men in their 60s or 70s that really, really like my black lab. I've had so many of them slow down in their trucks to chat. https://preview.redd.it/mgitgqrpw4ad1.png?width=829&format=png&auto=webp&s=f4eb3e05f6a985e959bd5a1aa5054806407b5076 The other day I had three separate people ask to take pictures of her for various reasons.
Yes! Often. https://preview.redd.it/whfog66m35ad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f76c80c4f90faf46b1278896bde3b7895735a0f
My Daisy girl regularly gets compliments when we’re out and about. She does go out of her way to greet as many people as are willing to say hello as well. https://preview.redd.it/1gwks0ha85ad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb3b36fdf2aa1828912888aa5f95d817158fdb22
Yes every single day! He’s only five months old but when he was 12 pounds and now that he is 40 pounds it’s a daily occurrence :-) when he was about three months old he actually stopped traffic and the guy yelled out the window ha ha https://preview.redd.it/eaz93o33i5ad1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8c4ab8e7b8e8e603a83a6c61f8a5d88f4a2fd5c

On his first day of puppy class, he immediately became the trainer’s favorite. The trainer commented a couple times that our boy should star in a Budweiser commercial 😄 (not sure if it’s cuz he’s cute or was acting like a crazy drunk lmao)
my girl gets compliments wherever we go! my husband and i joke that she’s the best looking member of the family 😂 i’ve had people go out of their way to come up and dote on her https://preview.redd.it/a48hmkqxu5ad1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=226a49c664e4938dd0d178bda893937655c56b1f

However, a lot of the time people think they’re mixed or not of Labrador breed! I don’t think the people in my area have seen enough labs 😂
People get confused by the blocky English heads. My white English boy gets mistaken for a pit bull from 30+ feet. He’s a barrel with legs.
Thought the post said "complaints" and I'd found my people...
You get complaints about your lab?
He was, erm, boisterous. And very, very large 😂
When I walk our 1 year old girl, when we get to the edge of the pavement to cross, she will stop, sit down and look up at me. At that point, we usually get a couple of drivers making 'aww' faces at her.
All the time!
After my black lab growls out of fear and decides he likes the “stranger” more than me, it does get a bit awkward
Yes❤️ My boy gets compliments because he just looks SO happy with his big smile. He’s a sweetest and it shows. Sometimes I find people just looking at him with smile on their own face!
I also have a yellow American lab and people are obsessed with her! Rightfully so lol. She is beautiful and gorgeous and friendly so I get it!
I had the same experience with my Emma……people would always ask if I can pet her💕 Especially when I took her to Canadian Tire with me- I would get sooooo many compliments on how beautiful she is 😊
Yes. She’s the prettiest. And so shiny

Yeah. And since my dog is 4 and still in tact, female dog owners are always sizing him up. No, lady. This isn’t puppy tinder.
😅 But my Golden he gets all kinds of compliments!
All the time 😁

Our girl is a labXmastiff and gets stopped constantly. Our mantra is 'Everybody loves Morley'! Except they mostly call her him and/or Marley lol https://preview.redd.it/t711eoynl4ad1.png?width=1152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef57a2e0f9c43e32174fe12fdd1a71647c4342ef
