Agree there are likely more eco friendly options. Didn’t do enough research up front, so am still on the fence (no pun intended) on turf. But we don’t totally regret it either.
Excellent choice. It goes with your design and the Cali vibe. From the pic I couldn't tell they were used. They look to be in almost new condition. Did the purchase come with the original Sunbrella cushions? I used to be a rep for Sunbrella way back for two yrs.
Looks great!
How is the turf working out? I hear it can get really hot in the sun so I've been hesitant to get any installed (for my dogs who turn real grass into mud pits).
Doesn’t get too hot here in Bay Area, about 80 at most. So far, we love it. It took a while to get used to how green it was. I’m retrospect, I would have gone with a browner/less green version
I like you didn't clutter up the deck. Don't tell that to the wife. There's still room for moving around without unduly bumping into things. A night out there, two bottles of Sonoma's best Pinot grigio, on a rant about the Niners losing to the Cowboys might change that.
What's the plan for the masonry wall across from the couch? Not much to look at unless it's your time portal Stargate. How about hanging some garden art or southwestern themed tapestry, or painting a mural or living wall of succulents and bromeliads like Tillandsias(air plants)?
It’s actually a separate house (we use it as a guest house/airbnb)! We’d love to grow something there, but it doesn’t get any sun…maybe some low light vines?
Wow. Amazing job! Love the transformation of the look. How hard / costly was the concrete removal?
Concrete removal was 3k. Took one day. Had to be careful of a sewer line, but otherwise easy.
Why not just extend the existing deck? Either way, sexy deck pic.
We wanted to create more flow between the deck and the artificial turf. Also, it’s a bit more private (we can’t see our neighbors on the lower deck)
Where are you located? I’m curious, why did you opt for artificial turf? The deck is beautiful, btw.
California! We wanted something low maintenance and to save on our water bill…
Was xeriscaping with CA native plants considered as an option with those aims? Could have been less stark and eco friendly of an option.

Awesome job! Throw some reed fencing up and you're in mfkn paradise!
That’s a great idea. Do you know if my jasmine vines will grow on reed fencing?

Bought them used but this is the brand. Highly recommend. https://www.eccboutdoor.com/mission-collection-sofa-with-cushions/

I got everything for a steal on Craigslist. I keep ‘em covered, but prior owner did not and had em for over 5 years…still look great.
The poly lumber color can fade in high sun. The positives far outweigh negatives though.
Would love to know the brand.
Looks awesome! Great job!
Wow that looks fantastic. Love the decking on an angle, would've taken some good measuring skills to get that right!
😻 Spectacular!!
Looks like a pleasant place to hang
Looks great!
How does it work that the new deck is a lot lower than the old?
Pressure treated wood for the framing. There are 3 stairs off to the left that bring you down to that level from our back door
It allows for a more cozy and private feeling while in the space, although there's not much privacy from the neighbor's deck.
Wow. Nice job!!
What kind of wood did you use for the deck? Looks beautiful.
Redwood with transparent stain
Looks great. Nice aesthetics. Placing the deck boards on the diagonal changes the deck perceptions and influenced the perceptions of the space.

We have turf and it does get hot but I love the look of it. Pros and cons.

Texas heat does the trick lol
What's the plan for screening from the neighbor's deck and avoiding the "please pass the salt" "I see you're having chicken for dinner" questions?
We’re gonna get some bamboo fencing to cover up the chain link fence. Our neighbors are very private so shouldn’t be an issue though lol

I'm sure it will! You'll need to train it and secure it to the fence so it can follow your lead. 🙂
Wow!
Amazing!
