chocolatemylkcow

I'm the opposite because 41 of my top 50 are women or women-fronted bands.

Distinct_Arrival_837

25/50 for me! Perfect balance. ⚖️

robinmitchells

Same! Though now I wanna see if I can tip the balance in the women’s favor

[deleted]

No such thing as a music misogynist unless you refuse to listen to an artist just because they’re female. My top 50 has five artists with women in significant roles in the band, two are all female or solo. 16. Arcade Fire 2746 20. Regina Spektor 2486 27. No Doubt 1925 39. Aly & AJ 1218 45. The B-52s 1092 Smashing Pumpkins has almost always had a female bassist and Guns N’ Roses currently has a female keyboardist, but I don’t feel those roles are significant enough to include in my list.

javier_aeoa

I also have Arcade Fire, and I thought of them because of the violinist. When you said "women in significant roles" I happened to remember this tiny microscopic part of Arcade Fire called Régine freaking Chassagne. Sorry Régine, you are forever in my heart <3

arcangelsthunderbirb

Certain genres are more dominated by certain genders

[deleted]

Exactly.

Medical_String_3792

do you mean dominated as in mostly consisting of or dominated as in most spoken of? if it’s the latter yes that’s true but if you dig deep nearly every genre has a large amount of good artists of each gender

SheepherderNo3467

Yesss another Aly & AJ fan, their newer music is so good (and so under appreciated)

otters-on-neptune

17/50, but 6 of my top 10 are women

chutneysss

I have 4.5 men( Troye Sivan, Everything Everything, Lil nas X, David Bowie, and Fleetwood Mac) so mostly women

ringpip

love everything everything :D

silentlydancing

48 of my top 50 are female, so not at all balanced

K4RM4CODE

In my top 50 I have 30 that are either female artists or female fronted bands. The only band in my top 10 that isn't is Chevelle.

exploringoceans

Chevelle is awesome

Scared_Knowledge

I have 30 too! Only male artists in my top 10 are Dylan and the Beatles.

tank-you--very-much

40 of my top 50 are women lol + ABBA which is half and half. I'm a woman who mostly listens to pop and indie and doesn't listen to too much older stuff so not too surprising

teo_vas

well all my top 50 is comprised of of bands and duos. so there are 28 bands with female members or all female and 22 bands all male

SleanJ

3 out of 50….. didn’t think it was this bad

AbnormalPopPunk

47/50 are women. lol

insideunderneath

37 of my 50, I’m a sucker for female vocals

GoldResponsibility27

Zero. What's ironic is that, in 2021, all I heard were bands with women (Florence + The Machine, Digger Daggers, Scissor Sisters...)

_whiskeytits_

I'll be honest, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Only 4 out of my top artists have a woman *in the band or duo* (Watch House, Fly My Prettys, Fleetwood Mac, Wild Rivers) My top solo female artist is Tracy Chapman at 99. The music industry is dominated strongly by men, and even more so for the genres of music I listen to. The women that do perform in the genres I like are either in a band, sing about things I don't relate to, or are not well known. If I'm being completely honest, I tend to enjoy male vocalists more often as well. So it makes sense that my charts represent that. **BUT I would like that to change.** I think my next music project will centre around female artists, see we can't pump those numbers up. Recently discovered Mitski thanks to u/tank-you--very-much and I'm loving her music.

One_4301

12/50, but I don't think it should matter, people listen to whatever music they like regardless of gender

Plane-Exit4515

9 out of 50 with quick check. One solo singer and rest are members in bands (including all female Band-Maid).

weflippity

17 of my top 50 are women but 5 are in my top 8 at least lol

Lil-Parabala

i only have 3/50, siouxsie and the banshees, hole, and bikini kill, 4 if we are counting the pixies, idk though cause kim deal only does lead vocals on a few songs, usually it’s backing vocals.

natichsa_

Only 4 😬mitski, Fiona apple, Evelyn Evelyn and flyleaf, the last 2 arent just women but have women fronting

jonathan92o

44

superunclea

4/50

meagainstthebeat

29

AJPXIV

Nightwish are the only female fronted band in my top 50

TheFoxIsPurple

35/50 of mine are women. Find it harder to find guys that really interest me but the ones I love im really into.

modsuperstar

Overall it’s bad, zero female fronted bands, though 6 with female members in otherwise male bands The last year, 14 bands with female members, 10 of which are female fronted.

hankheen

Joni Mitchell, Belle and Sebastian, arcade fire, dusty Springfield, Nina Simone, Lilly Allen, Julie London, Etta James

[deleted]

34/50

IBShawty

31/50 of mine are either women-fronted bands or women/gender-non conforming

HolyTane

Almost all of them are women

lanwrist

39 of my top 50 are women, but i mostly listen to pop which tends to be woman dominated

Low-Vast6211

33 of my top 50 are women. The last couple of days I have been listening to Chicago and their similar artists.

Shonky_Honker

I also have a major imbalance, all but one solo artist are female.

AmbroseGirl5

Haha mine is 35 out of 50 are female! 11 are male and 3 are mixed gender bands. That leaves 1 artist, who is a video game one where I have no clue who even made it or if they're female or male haha.

wouldyoucomewithme

I've noticed almost all "100 best of" lists and the like tend to be almost exclusively works by men. Women in music are consistently undervalued. Giving more accolades to women is a step in the right direction but it's superficial. Misogyny goes much deeper than that. I'm glad someone is talking about this. Me personally, I almost exclusively listen to women artists. I find them much more interesting.

evansimpson04

47 Women 3 Men 😂

Arandom_personn

26/50 are women so almost 50:50

silksunflowers

my top 50 is 23 women, 21 men, and 6 groups with both

lavender-rosequartz

40/50 are women for me❣️

No-Bug5616

42 lol

lonelylamb1814

My top 50 is made up of 48 female artists, 1 mixed group and 1 male artist. Lol

thirtypancakes

27/50 of my top 50 include female artists and front-women so I’m pretty evenly split

myipodclassic

I have 35 women/all-woman groups, 12 men/all-male groups, and 3 mixed-gender bands in my top 50. I do see a startling lack of women in many posts where people share their top artists (here and on other subreddits)! I’m kind of the opposite, I tend to gravitate much more toward music made/performed by women. Alkaline Trio is the only all-male act in my top 15.

arcangelsthunderbirb

I almost exclusivly listen to women these days

drewtangclan

28/50 are women for me…I honestly expected it to be more

Traditional_Artist88

31/50

-Fishbol-

It's a whopping 0/50 for me 😖 The Velvet Underground's drummer and the keyboardists of LCD Soundsystem and the Dandy Warhols are the only women who appear anywhere at all in my all-time top 50. I knew it was probably bad, but good lord

neko_courtney

I only have 2, Taylor Swift and Against Me. It doesn’t help that most of my scrobbles are from 10-18 years ago when I mostly listened to skate punk, a genre in which women have been very underrepresented historically. I have diversified my taste significantly over the last 5 years or so but it’ll take a long time for that to show up in my top 50.

mearnsgeek

13 solo or female-fronted. 7 of those in the top 20. Tbh, keeping any sort of "balance" just seems pointless to me. Are you going to start listening to things you enjoy less just to increase the proportion of some arbitrary human quality (which will probably be at the expense of something else anyway). Just listen to what you enjoy.

exploringoceans

3 or 4 are women out of my top fifty

nivkj

2

melancious

Ehhh… two :0 but one of them is in the top 5 (Bjork).

athousandleaves1998

bjork!!

[deleted]

No, you are just stupid.

Verskose

I used to be very women-dominated but it's no longer the case. Now only 11 out of top 20 have a female vocalist.

newsies2012kelly

I have Cyndi Lauper at 8 and if you wanna count Milo Greene at 6, which Marlana Sheetz is in.

jigb1t

Midori, Kaneko Ayano, The Scary Jokes ^ fronted by/solo act… ones with female musicians: The Mothers of Invention, The Velvet Underground (Nico), Magma, and Black Country, New Road

javier_aeoa

15/50 have a woman on the lineup, 2/50 are solo artists (Avril Lavigne & Florence + The Machine) or 4/50 if you want to include duos. So....yeah, we still have work to do :/

sudoku602

In my top 50, 19 are women or female bands, 16 are men or male bands, and 15 are mixed bands.

ddrub_the_only_real

I've only got one female fronted band in my biggest 50 of all time (Brutus BE) but I think I kinda have an explanation for that too, symply because in my style the popular bands are all male fronted, you're gonna need some deep digs to find a female fronted band. I have been looking for them btw, I have been actively searching for good female fronted bands (in the metal genre, preferably metalcore) because I personally love female vocals but yeah so far I failed to find them.

1nternetP3rson

4, taylor swift, hayley williams, paramore (female fronted band), and royal & the serpent

mrgadd4

21/50 of my all time artists are women (and there's a handful of bands I haven't included that have women in them too). It rises to 29/50 for my top artists of the last 365 days. I think I'm broadly balanced. As with all these things, my all timers are skewed towards a handful of acts I listened to a lot in my early 20s, which admittedly was quite a sausage fest.

CherryBlossoms0

18/50

Solace5555

17/50 have women and 16/50 are exclusively women

CharmingCondition508

9/50 are women.

DifficultyOk5719

There were three artists in my top 50 with female members: The Mars Volta, Cradle of Filth, and Igorrr. None of them front the band though. I’m a huge metal and rock guy, which are huge sausage-fests.

xkronium_fm

5/50 1. Lady Gaga (#11, 2855) 2. New Years Day (#16, 1626) 3. Paramore (#20, 1398) 4. Stand Atlantic (#36, 972) 5. Billie Eilish (#41, 753)

ChatonMeow

I only have 2 female-fronted bands in my real top 50: Metric and La Femme. If I only look at the past 10 years though, it's marginally better, with 7: Metric, La Femme, Wolf Alice, Femme Accident, Juniore, Laura Marling and Marissa Nadler.

athousandleaves1998

metric!!!!!

Dancing_Clean

In my top 50, 22 are solo women or fronted bands. 7 in top 10.

owarumoth

Only 5 or 6 solo women lol (more if you include women being in a band but I don’t feel like recounting), I desperately need more female artists with the type of music and lyrics I like

ostrichsong

4/50. I mainly listen to indie rock bands and not many of them have female lead singers. Pale Waves and Paramore made my top 50 for bands though.

PreacherManInCuffs

Only Billie Eilish and Clairo! With Arcade fire and White Stripes as male-led bands with female members

cenakofi

19/50, though I'm counting a few (Mother Mother, Arcade Fire, Grouplove) that have a woman as a co-lead.

HSakerF

Björk (#14), Lady Gaga (#16), The Cardigans (#27, main singer is Nina Persson), Mitski (#28), 100 gecs (#44, Laura Les), Evanescence (#50, Amy Lee is the main vocalist)

Macho_Cobra

6 artists, and 2 female-fronted bands

Cautious-Telephone-2

7/50

_lemon_pie

23/50, I think that's a nice number

miss_dykawitz

Not sure about top 50. But in top 10 there is only one male artist - Posty. Otherwise it’s pretty much all pop girlies. Dua, Taylor, Billie, Gracie Abrams, Olivia Rodrigo, Lizzy McAlpine, Sabrin Carpenter etc.

jobo180hawks

Only 6 for me🙁 Mitski, stand atlantic, seeyouspacecowboy, spiritbox, flooding, employed to serve

reflectingelephants

23

ChronicAquatic

it's 10 for me

AdamInChainz

20 women. 28 men. 2 unknown.

Cloud3345

27 Male - 18 Female - 1 Trans - 4 Split between Male/Female I got 4 female artist in my top 10

ShinAngyoOnshi

I guess 3 Nickel Creek (I think both Sarah and Chris can be considered frontperson of the band) Joan Baez High and Mighty Color

hannahisakilljoyx-

I only have 3 (Bolt Thrower, Despise You, and Dollhouse). I got tons of others but they’re all lower in the rankings unfortunately

1mB4kT

Youre doing better than me I have one and its Lana Del Rey at 32 with 329 scrobs

ghost_pepper22

5. Thee Oh Sees (914, I think this counts?) 28. 100 gecs (232) 33. Melted Bodies (165) 34. Amyl and the Sniffers (163) 35. Black Country, New Road (161) 38. Frankie and the Witch Fingers (127) 42. Coachwhips (105) 46. Grateful Dead (99) 49. Tropical Fuck Storm (89) Ist es over für mich?

DeeDayMoon

21/50 that are either solo women or groups with a woman/women as leading members. Out of curiousity, I checked the next 50 artists and it's 31/50 for that next page so it makes my top 100 very even (52/100)

-Allergic

4. Lana Del Rey - 11.6k 10. Billie Eilish - 4.9k 15. Charli XCX - 3.8k 19. Maggie Lindemann - 3.1k 30. Nicole Dollanganger - 1.8k 36. Ariana Grande - 1.4k 42. Paramore - 1.2k 47. Deb Never - 1k 49. Rihanna - 1k 50. Grimes - 1k Shoutout women, i love women

stupidlittleinniter

if i went with just women-led bands the number would be even worse, so artists or bands that have at least one member who's a woman is 9 / 50.

Elless80

8. And I haven’t listened to about 5 of those in a decade.

PrimasVariance

I got 10 that's women or women fronted 5. Wolf Alice 6. Alice Phoebe Lou 9. Remi Wolf 15. Sunflower Bean 22. Yoko Kanno 35. Laufey 36. The Marias 45. Clairo 48.Alvvays 50. Dreamgirl Remi is low but that's a lie, I listen to her excessively when I can't make up my mind

small44

Only one at number 42. Not only hip hop my dominant genre doesn't lot of female artists but alao my male artists has a lot more albums so more scrobbles.

pandaaaa26

20/50 are women or majority women groups 5/50 are bands fronted by a woman 25/50 are men or all male groups Perfect equality

sapphiresong

My enjoyment of music doesn't discriminate. If it's good it's good.

0172thetimeguy

Only one of my top 50 artists have a woman member. 🤷‍♂️

rabid_erica

5

verifypassword__

10/50! Wings, Mitski, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie, Taylor Swift, Mamas & Papas, Emma Stone, La La Land cast, The Ronettes, Eurythmics

JacobHBO

Only four for me, but as a wise man once said "You can be the hardest gangster in the world, you still listen to adele" Rihanna #8, 350 scrobbles Adele #16, 250 scrobbles Taylor Swift #18, 240 scrobbles Barbara pravi #24, 204 scrobbles

RemmingtonTufflips

Mine's kind of rough, only 7/50. I got Carole King, Mitski, Olivia Rodrigo, 100 Gecs, PinkPanthress, Goose House, and Nina Simone.

Thejosefo

6. Lana del Rey ABBA Wolf Alice Nightwish Little Dragon Lorde Anyways, there's a couple of bands whom contains female members as: Metronomy Pixies Therion Lumineers Anathema

bocchistkrieg

11/50, the number is way lower if I count female-only or female fronted bands, I just counted the ones that had any women in it

NoEmu2398

20/50 for me but I've only had the app for like 1-2 months now

SpudCMYK

2 out of my top 50 are women and 1 of those 2 is Candace from Phineas and Ferb so.

maydarnothing

this question was asked some time ago here, and i had mostly male or male-dominated artists, i would not say it was intentional, i just never really thought that i should force listen to someone just in order to balance things. to answer your question, i currently two female artists in my top 50 (Nina Chuba, AURORA) and 4 bands with a female member (Metric, Grouplove, Daughter and Slot)

TheRtHonLaqueesha

21 out of my top 50 are wiminnz, so it's almost 50%. That said, the wimminz tend to be distributed higher up the chain so there's that.

KaptainLibra

29/50 for me. Also— coming fromsomeone who’s be considered a total bitch feminist by some, nah man, music misogyny only exists if you ACTIVELY avoid female artists on account of being female. Ur good lol

Splashadian

I have Lucy Spraggan, Carley Rae Jepsen, K.Flay, Miranda Lambert, Kylie Minogue and Gin Wigmore in my top 50 all-time. Mostly I listen to alt. rock, hard rock and metal.

stereoworld

Overall, it's 5 - Taylor Swift, Luisa, Agnes Obel, Amy Winehouse and Banks. Smashing Pumpkins, Sufjan Stevens, TWIABP and Arcade Fire if we're counting band members. Even though Incubus has a female bassist, I'm not going to count them since they've yet to release anything with her. However, my account is 19 years old, so my music tastes have shifted significantly. If we do last 5 years, it's 13 - Agnes Obel, Lùisa, Farao, Kate Bush, Caroline Rose, Wolf Alice, The Beths, Paramore, Banks, Saint Etienne, Imogen Heap, TOKiMONSTA, Caroline Polachek. 18 if you count - Belle and Sebastian, Sufjan, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Anathallo. If we do 1 year, it jumps up to 21 Caroline Polachek, Paramore, Remi Wolf, We Have Band, Hayley Williams, Last Dinner Party, Brimheim, Taylor Swift, The Beths, Selah Sue, Lùisa, Agnes Obel, The Japanese House, TOKiMONSTA, Emily Jane White, Imogen Heap, Caroline Rose, Wet Leg, Wolf Alice, New Young Pony Club, Do Make Say Think. There are many artists who I've loved that aren't in these lists too. Honestly, I think I love both male and female artists equally, but it depends on the genre I guess. Basically, anyone who makes great fucking music is great, but it feels like women have the edge for me at the moment.

tagmen982

Clannad with Enya

bradhi

21/50 are women, some of those are just the vocalist of the bands though. Charli XCX is my number one and is quite a bit ahead of everyone else

BradTalksFilm

Provided my counting is right, 21 of my top 50 are woman artists or bands fronted by woman, i think they technically have a higher proportion of overall listens as more are at the top though

spookedlul

i have 12 but 8 of them r in my top 10

lia_bean

21 of my top 50 have at least a woman in a prominent role, although 2 of these are the same band with differently formatted name :p

this_is_Blain3

only 2. Alicia Keys & Rihanna

Jt69yupper

My number 1 artist is all women....Warpaint

thlayli_x

Four are solo women, six more are bands with at least one woman.

athousandleaves1998

31

klip_7

14/50 but I mostly just listen to mainstream rap and pop so that makes sense

NorthernRedCardinal

11 female artists, plus one if you include ABBA

Agreeable_You1756

10. Mitski (183) 16. Crystal Castles (126) 18. Kero Kero Bonito (105) 20. Portishead (101) 22. BLACKPINK (93) 32. Girls Rituals (66) 34. M.I.A. (62) 36. Black Dresses (60) 40. Paramore (52) 41. Taylor Swift (52) 44. Sewerslvt (50) 49. Penelope Scott (47) 12/50, but I'll blame the major gender bias in emo and rock in general for that.

ledge9999

I only technically have 4 - Lydia Loveless, The Muffs, Lucinda Williams, and X. But I also have The Jayhawks, Velvet Underground, Pixies, Superchunk, The Fall, Drive By Truckers, and The Decemeberists, who all featured women in significant portions of their run.

NewportStork

13. Caroline Polachek 16. Tropical Fuck Storm 21. feeble little horse 24. 100 gecs 31. KNOWER 32. Khruangbin 50. yeule Never thought about it, dang.

[deleted]

Out of my top 50 artists, 11 are women—which includes composers, groups and solo singers.

Middle_Wheel_5959

Bjork, PJ Harvey, MBV, Mitski, Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple 7 out of 50 for me

smile_tea

2/50 💁🏼‍♀️ Billie Eilish and Noah Cyrus.

djpiratecat

18/50 of my all time are women or women-fronted bands 33/50 since this day in 2016, which is just before I had a real shift in music taste and the voices I wanted to hear 2/50 from 2004 until that same day in 2016

_moonglow_

It’s certainly something I’ve given thought to recently. I am female, and have very few female vocalists in even my Top 100 most scrobbled. My husband listens to quite a few more female vocalists than I do, and some of his favourites I just can’t tolerate at all. 🤷‍♀️ Additionally, I mostly prefer to not hear the same songs repeatedly, and so those artists that have a larger catalogue are going to have a higher play count. They aren’t *necessarily* my top favourites. I also have a lot of non-vocal nature/relaxation type content that I use for specific situations. I wouldn’t have any difficulty naming several female artists I enjoy listening to, but it’s definitely a notable discrepancy. In my Top 50, I only have the following with female vocalists: Fleetwood Mac (#4); Enya (#10); ABBA (#45); and Sheryl Crow (#47). In the next 50, I have: Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morissette, The Mamas & The Papas, Eurythmics, Leahy (primarily instrumental), and Shania Twain. Finally, between 100-150, I have: Jann Arden, Janis Joplin, Janis Ian, Heart, and Tracy Chapman.

elhenzo

6 of my top 50 are female soloists. 8 more are groups with at least one female member (9 if you count the virtual members of Gorillaz). 14/50 could be better, but not bad.

jor1ss

For me out of my overall top 50 it's got 11 bands with women in them (that I know of, there might be bands there with female instrumentalists that I do not know about). Over the last year there's 14, so a bit better.

gianna_in_hell_as

I'm at 3/50 but my main genre is metal and it's a sausagefest so...

Used-Database-1373

mines is 36/50

PizzaTime7339

0 for me

ryoung07

44/50 and 9 of the top 10 are women.

PrincesaDelMar

I’m the opposite 😅 I only have 4 guys in my top 50 hehehe, 2 of which are in band with women.

Len-cheese101

Only 11% of my top 50 artists are women (for the past 4 weeks)😔 5.5/50 (Beach Bunny, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Kissflame (duo, one women other nonbinary), Mitski, and Diva Bleach) 10/50 for last 6 months And only 3/50 for my lifetime listens Someone give me some female fronted rock bands or pop punk bands

diony_sus_

I probably listened to more female artists before I started using lastfm. But here it is 26 - Kali Uchis 36 - SZA 38 - Suki Waterhouse 45 - Mitski

LiliumMoon

36/37 of my artists are either solo women, bands with female vocals or duos with at least one woman. Although at least 3 of them are bands with one woman (the vocals) and the rest are men, so it’s difficult to say are they more female or male dominated bands.

Axenor

10/50 have woman singer but all of them are mostly men

elaborategirl99

I don't think it's misogyny. I'm a girl, a lesbian even, so it's hard to say I'm misogynistic. Still i have only 7 female artists and bands in my top 50... My top 50 was formed through the years, and for some part i wasn't really deep into genres with a lot of women lol. But now my taste is wider, so it may change in the future.

dianthuspetals

Out of my top 50 I have one female soloist - Nico. I have four bands with female members that make up a mixed-gender band: * Fleetwood Mac * The Velvet Underground * Blondie * Jefferson Airplane You and I are definitely not misogynists because we have fewer female artists in our top 50 than we have male. People should be able to listen to what they enjoy and their profiles will likely reflect this. In my case, I tend to listen to a lot of Classic Rock. The genre tends to be dominated by bands, particularly ones comprised entirely of men.

Vildtoring

17/50 for me (including female solo artists or bands with at least one female member). Some genres just have more artists of one gender than the other, so it's not odd to me that some people's Top 50 might have an overrepresentation of one gender over the other.

SheepherderNo3467

40 out of 50 of my artists are women… and then most of the male ones are linked to the LGBT+ community (Lil Nas X, Years & Years, Kaytranada)

onlyjustbegan

24/50 but as other said it doesn't matter unless you refuse to listen to anything by a woman just because it was made by a woman. Just listen to whatever sounds good to you

Tiny_Culture7024

37 out of 50 for me! my top artists is an all-male band though and i’ve got 6 times the streams on them as my second top artist, so it’s balanced 🙈

salsasnark

28 women artists or women fronted bands. 2 mixed bands that have both female and male singers. 20 solely male. I'd say it's pretty even between men and women for me tbh. Also, I don't think it'd be misogynist unless you specifically go out of your way to not listen to women. I tend to lean more towards female vocals overall, I'd assume it's the same for you but with male vocals. Basically, it's just a preference. :)

MontegoProductions

I’m the reverse… only 4 of my top 50 artists are male. #50 - Kirin (115) #36 - SHINee (153) #15 - Baekhyun (315) #8 - EXO (577)

grimmless

1. Madonna (#7, 3,763) 2. Tori Amos (#16, 2,341) 3. Janet Jackson (#24, 1,667) 4. Fleetwood Mac (#29, 1,450) 5. Lacuna Coil (#30, 1,447) 6. Sade (#32, 1,446) 7. SWV (#36, 1,338) 8. Dead Can Dance (#43, 1,120) 9. Enigma (#44, 1,119) 10. Jody Watley (#46, 1,106)

Hahahahaha this is terrible form, I don't have a single female act in my top 50.

yohosse

13 / 50 but for the past few years Ive been mostly seeking and listening to women

charizard_b20

my top 50 are all women lol

awfulgrace

Wow, for me just 5/50 are woman/woman-fronted and most in the bottom 1/2 of the top-50... 13. Enya 1356 38. Adele 573 40. Cat Power 567 46. Joanna Newsom 542 50. Against Me! 505

BlakeTheMotherFucker

1.. Spiritbox. If bands that have members that are women counts, it would be more

242turbo

13 solo female 10 solo male 1 solo non-binary 0 female-exclusive bands 7 male-exclusive bands 11 female-fronted mixed bands 8 male-fronted mixed bands

impossible-boy

50/50 for women 😭 need to listen to more peter gabriel and weezer

InnerSongs

33/50 Was never in doubt, I've always had a preference for female vocals

lightonahill

A couple of them are male/female duos (Stars, New Pornographers), Ezra Furman is in my top 50 as herself and as Ezra Furman & The Harpoons, but other than that; artists who are women or women-fronted bands (not including the ones already mentioned), I only have 7 :( Edit, worth noting that this is top 50 artists of all time, music I've been listening to since 2009 when I was in high school lol

sunnydays2456

43/50

Southern_Choice4273

12. Ghost? The gender of the band members is kinda ominous however hinted to be female 20. My bloody valentine 32. Evanescence 36. Coal chamber 41. Clairo 45. Pulp 49. Paramore

G7X0DC87SK

8/50 + Carpenters and Fleetwood Mac, but my top artist is female. Female rock bands/soloists are rarer and you gotta do more digging to find them, and I'm not really a fan of cutesy/high-pitched female vocals in kpop

TetheredToHeaven_

4 😭 didnt know it was this bad

StreetVulture

10/40 Ouch... it used to be way worse, years ago I suddenly realised I didn't have any songs from female artists in my playlist. Not on purpose, but I am also not purposely going to start listening to female artists more just because they are female. But if you have recommendations of female artists, feel free to reply.

JDuncs1847

2 and 3/4- Amy Shark, Mallrat, half of 100 Gecs and a quarter of Spacey Jane

ryanb248

A whopping... 1. Spiritbox.

ElliesInWellies

19/50 But when I break it down my pop artists tend to be female and my rock/metal artists tend to be male vocal led. To put it in perspective, out of the 12 solo artists in my top 50, only one of them is male. I tend to listen to more rock and metal than pop... but the pop artists I like I really do like.

dangerman008

Mine is split 24-26 with male fronted groups taking a very minor lead

tytty99

4/50, but my top band is one of them (Pool Kids)!

KYplusEL

My breakdown is: - 26 all female acts - 21 all male acts - 2 evenly split duos - 1 non-binary

luciac05

I’m not gonna assume ur a misogynist but I will assume ur a man

Beloveddust

My top 50 artists are made up of -10 male solo artists -17 bands made up of men (to my best recollection, I didn't double check) -9 female solo artists -3 bands made up of women -11 bands made up of a mix of men and women (7 female-fronted, 3 male-fronted, and 1 with a male and a female lead singer) Unfortunately, since I've been scrobbling since 2007 and far fewer people were openly nonbinary, I don't know if I have any nonbinary artists represented in my top 50.

got_ur_goat

20 out of 50... but mainly bands that have a female member at one point. Only 7 are primarily female led

pivvimehu

I have 5 but most of the top 50 are metal and rock anyway, so...

plunder_god

1 female, 1

ajouya44

Most of mine are women

mattyhealyismymuse

2 female solo artists and 2 in bands with male singers

Financial-Okra-7912

15 men in my top 50 and 2 of them in the top 10

autowriter421

1 lol. i listen to a lot of female artists, or bands with girls in them but apparently not in a heavy playcount way

antlermagick

Only 12 for me. Honestly I've never realised.

WanderWithMe

Only 8 of my top 50 are 100% female (i.e. solo or all-female band). Outside of that there are less than 10 other women adding up all the band members. 15 of my top 50 over the past year are all-female. Sadly, it's a reflection of music history. It's great you've noticed, and you don't sound like a music misogynist. We can all do our bit to even the balance by seeking out, buying music from, and following female musicians we enjoy. Things are slowly improving. A couple of years ago I saw 14.4% of songwriters and 3.9% of producers on the 2021 Billboard Hot 100 were women, so it inspired me to seek out more women-led acts and to make a playlist: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2d4lJNxQx0mtwHKPELINhl?si=9120a6329ced41d5](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2d4lJNxQx0mtwHKPELINhl?si=9120a6329ced41d5) \-

Even_Shame4802

33 women in my top 50. I'd try listening to more women there are so many amazing up and coming female singers.

PsychoTruck

Zero. First ones come at #80 and #83 (Donna Summer and Sylvie Vartan). I mostly listen to acts that were established before the 1980s, and lean more towards artists who also wrote their material. Ratio-wise, there were only so many Dolly Partons and Carole Kings on the field of popular music, where most performers were motivated by the prospect of having women fall on their knees for them.
