In laws in town?

ryang4415

This needs to be higher on the list of comments.

OctoSlips

Agreed šŸ˜‚

SWINGMAN216

Have you seen the video where the husband cleans the gutters and the wife cleans the inside of the house? Funny thing is he doesnā€™t even have gutters.

Dakotahray

The way I cackled lmao

Sumpkit

Iā€™d do this to avoid the kids at times.. sorry dad is busy. Go yell at your sister elsewhere.

CPOx

Technically what heā€™s doing isnā€™t wrong. But if he keeps doing it the way heā€™s doing it now, heā€™ll be done before Thanksgiving dinner is ready. Either he needs to go buy a manual aerator that you step on, rent an aerator for $75 and split it with some neighbors, or hire someone to do it.

xtothel

Shhhhhā€¦heā€™s trying to get rid of the Ryobi and convince her he needs Milwaukee to get the job done.

bansheemarie

He was shopping for dewalt tools the other day...

Babaduderino

There are tools for aerating lawns, he could rent one and do the whole lawn in an hour. [https://www.amazon.com/Agri-Fab-45-0365-16-Inch-Spike-Aerator/dp/B0007VTQRK?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref\_=fplfs&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Agri-Fab-45-0365-16-Inch-Spike-Aerator/dp/B0007VTQRK?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1) What he's doing is as intelligent as mowing the lawn with pruning shears.

Enter_Player_3

This comment bites so hard at the end, haha

Babaduderino

I know... I used to be so chill, then I started to notice how people spend their lives

24Scoops

I had a thought very similar to this on the way home. The older I get the more I realize I'm surrounded by idiots lol

Jesse1179US

Same. Sometimes I even realize I am the idiot, which is the worst part.

ItsTheEndOfDays

mmmm. I tasted that one.

OrangeJeepDad

If you can't identify the crazy on tbe bus...it might you.

Ok-Bid1774

Thank you for bringing some self awareness into this pretentious soup. Haha

AccordianPowerBallad

At the hardware store, I start a lot of questions off with "Please tell me if this is a dumb plan".

Babaduderino

The struggle is real

Traditional_Arm3465

16% of the population of the United States have an IQ lower than 85 (the minimum to join the army if I remember correctly). Thatā€™s nearly 53 million people that the army wonā€™t even let boil potatoes. You are in fact surrounded by idiots.

Dr_Stew_Pid

let the hate flow through you... it's refreshing to point out stupidity with style!

FPSHero007

True but you don't need to flail your cranial phallus all over the place while your at it.

Ok_Faithlessness_516

I just wish I had the amount of free time OP has. Or maybe he's just trying to get outta the house for a few hours šŸ¤” now that I think about it....

Ok-Bid1774

Yeahā€¦ ā€œwell, I already spent 2 hours ā€˜poopingā€™ todayā€¦ guess I need to switch tacticsā€

divorced_dad_670

Maybe what heā€™s doing is purposeful. May need a reason to be out of the house for a long period of time day in and day out šŸ¤«

thunderdart

Username checks out.

Babaduderino

I know... coping mechanisms don't have to make sense

knuckboy

Or he got a huge bag of something recently...

vterinsc

He did say he needed to ā€œairify the lawnā€

CosmoKing2

Exactly. Looks like he isn't pressed for time and just wants to putter.

Comprehensive-Self16

Technically, his core aeration with the drill bits is more effective then the spline aerator you linked. That is literally useless for aeration.

Bigfops

Sure, you could rent a tool, but it will never be as good as this artisanal hand-aerating.

Babaduderino

I just feel that using power tools is cheating, you know? If you're gonna do something, do it right. Drill those holes with a good old-fashioned hand drill. It'll make a man out of your dominant arm, at least.

LLcoolJimbo

My neighbor cuts his lawn with these stand up pruning shear deals. He does a few dozen square feet every day during the summer. He said it gets him out of the house exercising and away from his wife, and he doesnā€™t care if the lawn is always uneven. Older guys sometimes choose the long way, but itā€™s not really intelligence related.

sandemonium612

You need to actually pull cores to get an affective airetion. I wouldn't recommend this link... Organic liquid aerator would probably do a better job.

TRUMP2020BLM

This is "spiked aerator" , for optimal grass growth you'll want one of [these](https://www.amazon.com/Yeeoy-Coring-Aerator-Half-Open-Compaction/dp/B0C9ZGDLWF)

QuestionBudget

Not the tool I would recommend either, but I suppose itā€™s better than his solution. Go rent a real aerator from HD and do it the right way in under an hour, then line up some other lawns to do after & pay for the rental. Or as someone else suggested split the cost with neighbors

MotherfukinObamaCare

*takes long drag off a crack pipe* Life's not about the destination man, it's all about the journey āœŒļø and my journey seems to be leading me to your walls for your copper šŸ’–

angershark

Dewalt ftw imo.

Rocqy

Theyā€™ve gone down hill tremendously in the last 10 years. Milwaukee has the better system right now for an average home owner

SayNoToBrooms

Iā€™m an electrician and I use Milwaukee. Most guys do at this point. They cornered the toolbox market with their Pack Outs, and it seems like most guys either consciously or subconsciously get matching tools, over time. They also have a very wide range of offerings, with a good warranty backing it all up

angershark

That's sad, i had no idea. I just know my dad was a DeWalt man and in one of my marketing courses in undergrad it was mentioned in a textbook regarding the tool colour :p

terflit

Currently a Milwaukee man myself. One day, I will be an Old Milwaukee man.

psychoholica

Ive tried for years to kill my Ryobi drill. Bought Dewalts best drill a few years ago which is clearly superior in every possible way but I always give the crap jobs to the ryobi hoping it dies.

twoaspensimages

My old Ryobi driver is so underpowered it will never die. 14 years that POS has been rattling around in the back of truck. I built five kitchens with it in the early years and then upgraded to Makita in '18 when it couldn't drive a 8" Timberlok. The Makita has smoked twice. That Ryobi was there to carry me through a frustratingly dog slow afternoon both times with my guys ragging me because I'm too cheap to carry an extra $80 tool when our combined hourly rate is $220hr.

__slamallama__

You do it for a living and the ryobi has treated you well. Makes me feel good about my set. Probably 10 years old and every piece I have still works perfectly. As a homeowner, my set probably has less use than yours had in the first two weeks.

twoaspensimages

Man, you read that differently than I do. Treated me well only in the sense of it hasn't died. Aside from that it's passable at best. Battey life isn't great. It's severely underpowered compared to a three generation back Makita. It's heavy. It feels clunky.

analogrithems

Bro why you gotta give up the game.

Roubaix62454

This is the only correct answer.

ladder2thesun01

I've had my Ryobi drills (driver and impact) for over 15 years and they haven't had a hiccup. Tool snobs can say what they want about em.

I-know-you-rider

Best comment !

timbowen

hardest part of renting an aerator is moving it to and from the rental place, get a neighbor with a truck to help for free aeration and you're good to go

Dave1mo1

Put my aerator rental in the back of my Telluride. Lifted it down and couldn't get it back to when I was done. Had to ask my neighbor for a hand. Gravity is a bitch.

CPOx

Absolutely. My neighbor has a truck and I pay him 60/40 because he picks it up and drops it off. We knock out both of our lawns in less than 1.5 hours.

LongUsername

If you move it in a minivan make sure it's tied down well or it can get expensive really fast. Ask me and the rear window how I know...

Drinkythedrunkguy

This is the ā€œpretending youā€™re doing something in the garage for 5 hoursā€ when itā€™s a nice sunny winter day.

SwimOk9629

I think he is just aerating the part where it's just dirt, to make it match the rest of the lawn. It won't take him that long

resetpw

His way to be away from wife

ParkingOpposite2034

No. He wants the break from his so questioning all his methods. He is doing whatā€™s necessary.

Needmoresnakes

Please tell your husband I have sent this to several golf course managers and staff and all of them are in hysterics.

bansheemarie

He used to work at a golf course is that where he learned this

Needmoresnakes

With a hand drill? Does he cut the grass with scissors?

leyline

Only when she doesnā€™t ā€œlet him outā€ for 2 hours that day.

unwhelmed

Seems like a newbie hazing thing he was told to do previously but he never caught up with the joke.

DontFoolYourselfGirl

There sure is a lot of hate on this thread for your husband's deep core aeration. If there is a better way to get a 12 inch core, I would love to hear it. Deep core is especially useful in residential when the builder used infertile/low organic matter subsoil for the lawn. Roots can't penetrate heavily compacted subsoils. Amending the whole thing is impractical, but providing a 1 foot deep core backfilled with compost will let your grass grow roots deep enough to survive drought and harsh summer heat. Take a look at a ["drill & fill" 12 inch aeration machine](https://youtu.be/SfJ_bBgA6g8?si=mwfINqWTVE64uNMk) for a golf course.

_wiredsage_

Vindication!

ButtMassager

Must be Augusta National, they cut the rough with cuticle scissors

Over9000Zeros

This is seriously one of the funniest post I've ever seen.

Mulletman1111

I think he is doing anything he can to not go back in the house. Poor guy must be miserable.

-anth0r-

Lmao!!!!

bansheemarie

I let him have 2 hours in the yard to himself every evening. I think thats more than reasonable

jungleboogiemonster

You let him out for two hours a day? What do you do with him the other 22 hours?

zack397241

Take him to the park, scratch behind his ears, the normal stuff

Just donā€™t feed him after midnight and youā€™ll be fine.

mikemartin7230

Only 2 hours?! You MONSTER!

thisiscrazyyyyyyy

2 hours could make them start to think they have freedom, you're supposed to only allow for 30 minutes outside with 2 hour breaks!!

mikemartin7230

Holy shit. This is why my wife makes me come inside for a sandwich and a drink! Yā€™all are pulling the curtain back a bit too far.

eeandersen

I heard two words when I read that. They were ā€œwoof, woofā€

Runningstar

What do you mean ā€œlet himā€

Rockytriton

make sure he has plenty of water and make him come in if it gets too cold

BJFun

You time him?

Tin_Whisker

This is the correct answer. I had a neighbor that lived below us who'd argue with his wife and then he'd go outside and shovel the walk to blow off steam. Halfway through the winter the entire front yard was shoveled clean.

DingleBarrymuffin

If you look up "Work Harder not Smarter" on the Internet it will bring up this picture of your husband

MonkeyHitman2-0

bentrodw

He needs to string up grid lines. I prefer 12" grid with 10 random holes per cell.

topor982

I just use flag markers personally lot faster

Berto_

I'm not a gambling man, but I'd wager he's avoiding you.

hardscrabble1

Leave him alone. As long as HE thinks he knows what heā€™s doing itā€™s making him feel productive.

Upbeat-Spring-5185

The best way to aerate your lawn is with a shotgun. 12 gauge is best, 00 buckshot or at least #4 shot. Stand on top step of stepladder, start blasting away from farthest edge to nearest your ladder. Quick, eazy and fun!

itdeffwasnotme

Best response Iā€™ve seen yet and there have been some good ones.

Intelligent-Monk-426

ah, an artisan lawn, yes

theredduck

Here is my brother-in-law doing the same thing about a year ago, and the results. He definitely got the last laugh. https://preview.redd.it/t3zff8kkkvkc1.png?width=1724&format=png&auto=webp&s=829f34f8e76cbf902f24a0edd7d58ce48ef73adf

Pubelication

Is he not pictured in the after pic because he now walks on all four?

maggie_thepie

So THATā€™S what Ryobis are for!

drumsdm

Those drills also work well as a hammer.

New_Reddit_User_89

Grade A shitpost, congrats.

bansheemarie

????

redhairedtyrant

It's a dumb way to do this. He's not wrong, but he's not working smart.

whodeyalldey1

When I aerate my lawn I buy a couple edging stakes and then I use a hammer and pound the nails into the ground before pulling them back out.

No_Algae_4575

I donā€™t think he likes spending time with his wife

RitoWalters

He's trying to avoid you, yet there you are, taking pictures of him and posting it on Reddit. Poor guy.

PersistentEngineer

I can't tell if her posts are jokes or if they really actually have a terrible relationship.

Medium-Relief6581

After reading her OP's other comments, I'm convinced this is the answer.

ahbets14

He doesnā€™t know what heā€™s doing but the effort is there

bbarton214

He should really be using a left handed cordless drill for that

LyricalMURDER

Fucking up his bits lmfao. Reminds me of trying to prune a rose bush with kitchen shears. Snapped the blade right in half. Wife was livid. Tell him to get a proper aerator. You can get them for like 30 bucks on the cheap end. Home Depot's got em. Garden section at Walmart might too. Pretty sure you can rent them too

wrd159

This is why people make fun of ryobi tools.

ButtMassager

Real Yard Oxygenation But Ittakesforever

teneyk

Itā€™s bigger in Texas, not smarter or better.

nibbles200

Thatā€™s the fallacy of Texas, if the saying was true he would have shown up with this: https://tractortoolsdirect.com/ibex-tm64-power-harrow-with-mesh-roller/?gad_source=4&gclid=Cj0KCQiA5-uuBhDzARIsAAa21T9ecUmOJ-GPM8tHZ6193RVVFgFeyTBtT025s8YelLcMfU5t7czmlEkaAiIoEALw_wcB

GMENTAL

it would be faster and more fun to shoot up the lawn with an AR .......bullet aeration.

gam3rt4gur1t

The drill and the impactā€¦ he means business !

goodfoot34

Heā€™s out of his damn mind

Peace_Fog

People do aerate their lawns, this isnā€™t how they typically do it though You have the drain their, my guess is the soil around it has been compacted from rain. Aerating the lawn can help the grass grow which I believe your husband is trying to do

GeraltOfRivia2023

He's willing to work very hard at doing the right thing in a very ineffective and stupid way.

WERKED66

The wife mentioned to him they needed to talk and he said as soon as I'm done with the lawn...he will get back to you in the year 2035.

AusCan531

Next think you know, Ol' Jed's a millionaire.

J-Lughead

He's just aerating your lawn the very long hard way. He'll be at it until the cows come home.

Asleep-Coconut-5709

Deep core aeration is a technique used to bring air and nutrients to the root systems. In a month after, use compost Tea and Molasses mix to bolster the quantity of active bacteria.

ZeusThunder369

Actual answer (not that the jokes aren't funny): Your husband believes that the lawn is in extremely heavy clay soil. So he's using a drill instead of a core aerator since the drill can create much deeper plugs (holes in the ground). He will then fill these holes with compost, which will break down the heavy clay soil. Looking at the pic, he may be neglecting a few things: - He could use an extension on the auguer bit to avoid needing to bend down - He should be using an auger bit at least an inch in diameter - He should get a bucket, and drill a hole in it that's slightly wider than the bit. Then drill down through the hole, and the clay getting pulled out will end up in the bucket (instead of all over the yard and back in the hole)

gowerskee

if it works it works

p00trulz

Sometimes I wonder how Ted Cruise keeps getting elected, then I see this and it makes perfect sense.

ApprehensivePie1195

Atleast get a 3 foot 1/4 inch extension.

SlowlyGrowingDeafer

Maybe he's got early-onset dementia. My grandpa used to cut the grass with scissors and he had it. Same vibe.

OriginalAd1458

Wow

Dantrash2

He could wear spike shoes while mowing the lawn. Getting 2 thing done at the same šŸ‘

jiggeroni

We need to protect this man at all costs

Fortunateoldguy

Leave him alone and let him play in the dirt.

FangFingersss

*Aerating* is what he is saying and what people are telling you here is what heā€™s doing is so dumb because itā€™s quite literally the equivalent of mowing your yard with scissors. Aerating is where you poke holes in the whole yard and a proper aeration aerates small holes 3 inches apart. Imagine drilling holes 3 inches apart for that whole yard. Itā€™d probably take a few days. With aeration you typically poke the holes in the whole yard and then put seed over it so the seed will go into the holes so they will be directly underground instead of above ground and get more air and water than just putting seed on the yard. Heā€™s going to be out there long enough the holes he drilled will start coming back together honestly. Just think about making a hole every 3 inches in rows until the whole yard is done. Itā€™s never going to get done. Thatā€™s why so many people are wondering if youā€™re joking because this is just insane. Only thing I can see this would be plausible is if youā€™re doing a spot thatā€™s like super tiny, as in 1 square foot

YeshuasBananaHammock

Let 'im be, hes focused.

Available-Fly-8268

Leave him alone. He'll be out from underfoot until supper time.

Rampag169

Go out there and tell him to stop screwing around.

SpeedDaemon42

There is a steel pronged rake in the picture. He could just lay this down and step on it and he would be done 50 times faster. Well as long as he laid it pointy side down, otherwise it will be over much quicker but it wonā€™t be done either.

[deleted]

He is obviously drilling these small holes to place small amounts of C4 in the bottom and ā€œaerate the whole lawn in one big blow

Yoda2000675

Aerate, but heā€™s doing it basically the slowest way possible

[deleted]

Call 911 he's having a stroke

gaoshan

Just rent an aerator. Heā€™ll be done before lunch and it wonā€™t cost much.

thatdudeorion

He went to A&M right?

scorchingray

Leave him alone. Let him airify, enjoy life, and be happy. For bonus points, bring him a beer.

AMGSiR

Do you perchance have young kids?

enorl76

Maybe heā€™s going through project withdrawal. Give him an idea of something useful to build. Heā€™s got the tools apparently.

itdeffwasnotme

Either he really just doesnā€™t want to be near you or you should look up ā€œlawn aeratorā€ and buy one. They make little holes in your yard for fertilizer and water and O2.

English_Breakfast123

He means he wanted to aerate the lawn and this isn't bad, just a very time cosuming way.

McDungle

This is a man who has a screaming toddler inside, i bet my life on it

NotBatman81

I used to do this professionally for golf courses. My machine had over 100 tines that punched every few seconds. With a drill....I can't even.

yodacat187

No need to worry until he wants to edge the sidewalk with a circular saw like my now fingerless neighbor did.

Nelnamara

How hard is the soil you need to use a drill. Go buy a $20 pitchfork and stab awayā€¦ or get and actual push aerator

ConditionYellow

What kind of scissors does he mow the lawn with?

BigDaddydanpri

TBF, if he is just doing that small section of dirt, this is prolly faster than figuring out a way to rent/haul/return an aerator, assuming you even have a truck or hitch and trailer. If he is happy and out side....let him roll.

aviator30007

Does he also blow in the hole two times after heā€™s done making one . Thatā€™s a critical step in properly aerating a lawn . Good work there ā€¦

Taste_Diligent

There's one man who really loves his alone time

birddogron

Must trying to avoid doing honey do chores inside the house!

You married a goof.

lampiss

Youā€™re worried, although you have no idea. I bet a lot of your daily stress comes from this.

speed150mph

I mean, heā€™s got the right idea, but heā€™s definitely doing things the hard way. They have tools for lawn aeration. You can find them at most gardening stores for like $50-100.

CaptainGeiger24

Dude hates his wife lmao

Fancy-Fish-3050

I figure he will burn out those drills and his back before he is done. After he gets done with this job maybe he can dig some post holes with some teaspoons. I guess doing it this way has a tedious zen quality about it...

Interesting-Most-275

They make slip over plugger for your shoes so you can walk around and leave goose turd looking plug all over your yard instead of crawling around like a crazy with dueling drill guns

Select-Device-5981

Heā€™s saving money. Itā€™s a technique you do in the fall. Itā€™s called aerating the lawn.

Bubbly-Guarantee-988
