That’ll be fun! My brother and I used to mow our lawn when we were younger and would mow different lengths to make a tee box, fairway, rough, and putting green and would play par 3 rounds with whiffle golf balls and a pitching wedge
My dad is currently building his house and he planned his patio to be perfectly angled towards a huge downhill slope into a field that he’s setting up kind of like a Top Golf. Idk how he plans to get all the balls back but I wouldn’t be surprised if he started asking about grandkids in a year or so. I wouldn’t put it past him to use pastel colored balls and tell some kids he set up an Easter egg hunt for them.

It all works! Recommend birdie balls!
The dude who lives across the street from my father plants a giant smiley face in his front yard with ryegrass every year. It's probably 50-60 ft from top of the eyes to the bottom of the mouth, but it's pretty funny that he has kept that thing planted and manicured for probably 15 years now.
I'm pretty sure he does it for his pilot buddies, but I always get a kick out of it when I'm driving down our driveway.
Had some help navigating the map from you guys, so here it is.

I will ask my girlfriend to remind me next time we're over there.
I bet the dude would be stoked if he knew strangers were enquiring about his yard-smiley on the internet. 😂
That was a fantastic idea, but you can't see it because of the trees and distance from the road.
Edit: My father lives up on a hill, so as you're driving down his driveway, it's higher than the dude across the street, and his smiley is clearly visible. This is exactly why I think that it's mostly done for him and his buddies to laugh at while they're flying around.
Y'all are much smarter than I with this internet stuff.

Our neighbor did that to our lawn a few years ago. She wrote "HI" and cut it way to low and killed the grass so we had "HI" permanently in our lawn all summer.
When the kids were smaller sometimes we’d shovel the sidewalk in a kooky pattern to watch the neighbors walk their dogs thru it. We also did snow mazes.
Never thought to do the lawn though. That’s fantastic.
You can do as you please so long as you dont live in a /r/fuckHOA ... My dad had a coworker that was on his hoa board and would literally walk around his neighborhood with a ruler measuring grass...
It's the greenworks 21 inch mower.

Nice, just got one of those from Costco myself. It’s weird having such a fancy mower lol My old gas powered one is like 30 years old. Still runs decent but pretty basic. Could only mulch with it too as the side shoot and bag weren’t included when my dad got it. Nice to be able to bag sometimes.
I mowed a portrait of Leon Phelps, the Ladies Man, into my parents’ lawn as a teenager. It turned out surprisingly well. It was also visible the rest of the summer, despite every subsequent mow. They weren’t the happiest about it, but were too impressed with the artwork to be mad.
Growing up at and going to birthday parties, my classmates dad would mow his yard like this in their massive back yard and we would play sharks and minnows but you can only stay in the low cut paths. Very fond memories of playing it like that

I put in a racetrack for my kids 😁
That's great! I did this once as a kid. The lawn was due for mowing and before I mowed the entire lawn, I just mowed a race track for myself and my siblings to race on. My father was \*not\* amused. In his defense he probably just saw a crappy mow job. Lawn looked fine when I did finish mowing though.
At my last house my yard was big enough where I mowed a 9 hole whiffle golf course in it for the 4th of July every year. I mowed tee boxes, fairways and greens and also had 13 huge yew bushes scattered throughout the yard to add to the course architecture. I called it the John Daly open and had the neighborhood over to grill and golf. It was a good time.
I have an entire acre and a half that I mow like that. My granddaughter rides her motorcycle on the mowed “trails.” I change it up every once in a while. She has jumps, humps, and dips.
I’ll miss these times when she grows out of it.
Amazing thing is IT IS ONLY GRASS! Have fun with your lawn. It is yours. As long as you take some basic care of it will grow back.
Now if you live in a socialist dictator run homeowners association community. My best recommendation is to sell and find a place you can treat as your own.

I used to do the same thing only as an adult lol

My friend mows her lawn to show the boundaries of her badminton court.
pics?
That cost $$$
Gets out the big-wheel for a race in 3… 2… 1…
I mowed HELLO into my front lawn when I was about 11. Mum didn’t think it was great but I was proud as punch.

satellite view, not street view

that's sick
I laugh, thinking about him having to still go out and mow his face during the winter.
Brilliant
Now if you download Google Earth, you could use the time functionality to go back to older satellite images. You might get a better view
I can view older images on there??
Yardley.
Nah, give us the address so we can see it on Google Maps
Our neighbor did that to our lawn a few years ago. She wrote "HI" and cut it way to low and killed the grass so we had "HI" permanently in our lawn all summer.
When I was 11 if I missed a strip I had to mow the entire lawn over again to make the stripes match!
"For the kids", *cracks another beer*...
You got me :D
Best stripes on the subreddit
Dad would snow blow the side yard into a huge pile of snow! We could then make it into a snow fort. Spring time there’d be a little pile left
I remember my elementary school PE coach would do this for students to encourage walking and being active.
Next time do crop circles and tell your kids you didn't do it and it must be aliens.

these bloon maps are getting crazy realistic.

Is that a greenworks? How is it Also. My grass would scream if I cut it that short.
I have the same mower and love it. Does great for smaller yards and no maintenance
*HOA has entered the chat*
Nosy neighbors have entered the chat.
Not visible from the street
***Fuck HOAs and the Karens behind ‘em.***
my HOA manager's name is literally Karen
Amen.
My dad used to do this for us when I was a kid. We loved it! Parenting: A+
He’s a mad man!
A loose cannon!
I’ll be doing something like this next cut. Thanks for the idea. The kids will love it
I have that same mower. That thing is great!
**Fun Dad Alert**
You could also mow some crop circle looking patterns.

Good eyes. We need to do something about that asap. Recently bought the house.

If you live in an HOA you don't own your house you are leasing from the bank and the HOA is your landlord.
I've definitely mowed a baseball infield into my backyard, and a big Nebraska "N' when I was younger.
this is fun. never thought to do this.
What is that bad ass mower that you are using?

I got this over the Ryobi because the Ryobi's safety hold bar was pain in the palm to hold. This is heavier but easier to hold and navigate.
Ahh. For some reason, the mower looks so much larger/wider in the picture.
keep doin it, water well, throw some masonry sand down…. could be awesome little course
Sometimes I would start in the middle and circle my way out. The neighbors loved it.
I love it
I could do this in my lawn and I don’t own the house….
Hell yeah
Scalp the fukkk outta that lawn all you like. Lol.
As long as your comfortable with the added labor or cost to level it out after excess growth, go nuts!
I can’t be the only one thats mowed a… phallic… design in their back yard to make their kids laugh…
What are you mowing with ?

Sometimes I do this when it’s just to hot
I have done the same. It's more interesting and fun for the kids.

RC 4x4 time!
Race track, cool idea!
Wow what a cool and nurturing environment full of nooks and crannies for cool plants and bugs for kids to discover.. oh wait

Is that an EGO?
HAHAHA NICE
I used to mow my front yard on different patterns. My favorite was to start in the center of the yard and spiral outward.
I have an entire acre and a half that I mow like that. My granddaughter rides her motorcycle on the mowed “trails.” I change it up every once in a while. She has jumps, humps, and dips. I’ll miss these times when she grows out of it.

The beauty of not having a shitty lawn is the freedom to have fun with it. You’ll get there some day
