A cookie is better than the other two options below

aintwhatyoudo

This is about the creepiest I've seen Duolingo get 😂

UnstableRedditard

It asked me where my daughters are sleeping when I was learning Latin.

aintwhatyoudo

Do you have daughters? :p

UnstableRedditard

Fortunately, no.

Kooky_Pause_2488

I was learning Italian on Duo one late night around 12:45 or something being alone in my apartment. In the span of my session, 20-30 min, give or take, Duo sent me the following sentences to translate: * The doors are closed. * There are knifes in the kitchen. * Open the door. * Victory will be mine. Have not touched Duo Italiano since. I am learning Spanish on Duo now, I haven't gotten anything this creepy yet.

Chliewu

Hope that I get to this stage with my Italian xd really eager to catch it ;)

9307911

Why /s? 🤨

Sabelinos

what do you mean "/s"?...

Kremuwka2137

/s means that that a person writing a comment used sarcasm. Sadly some people take things way too seriously, so better write that, than to trigger some idiot without any sense of humor (i mean generally, not this specific use)

Why would I say "ty dotykasz moje ciasteczko"? To me, the Duolingo version seems unnatural. Who's wrong here?

Unhappy_Roof3520

Yea my Polish friend even said "well here we dont speak like they do on duolingo" so that makes it kinda weird trying to use what i learned to communicate to a native or someone fluent

bartekmo

Natives do not learn from declension tables, but from what they hear and read. You can often see in this sub people saying something "sounds natural" (or not). This is how we judge if something is correct or not. As a lot of natives do make mistakes (and the culture of not caring too much has spread to journalism and media) you might see some native speakers mixing dopełniacz (genitive) and accusative (biernik). Add regional dialects on top of that and you get the mess we call Polish. "Dotykać" in a physical sense ("you touched my ... whatever") uses genitive. "dotykać" in a metaphorical sense ("this tragedy touched her deeply") uses accusative. Duolingo is correct here (except everyone would drop "ty" at the beginning). https://sjp.pwn.pl/poradnia/haslo/dotykac-czego-czy-co;3765.html

GALSKIE

Don't focus on the context but on grammar. Some of the sentences are terrible. I am wondering why Duolingo added "children" and "girls" to be used in this sentence - have they build their sentence database based on some pedo forum or what

WowsrsBowsrsTrousrs

They add random words so that you have to choose. Next time the same sentence comes up, the random words might be fish and cow.

kociorro

Theoretically you’re wrong. The proper grammar is dotykać kogo? czego? Not kogo? co? But more and more people do speak like that (I guess the language is evolving) and probably both forms will be ok and after some more years maybe the kogo? co? will prevail..? https://sjp.pwn.pl/poradnia/haslo/dotykac-czego-czy-co;3765.html

ajgutyt

ty could be removed and it would sound much more natural.

Ok_Chef_8111

Yes because u know Polish well. If Someone learns its good to put "ty" before. Then its clearer for learner

ajgutyt

thats kinda what i expected

Raiste1901

I can say ‘nie dotykasz mojego ciasteczka’, but it's negative, so that's why it sounds better to me. Without "nie", it sounds strange, as if the biscuit was alive (and you're touching it for some reason). But grammatically, it makes sense in the standard. The problem is, I speak a dialect, not the standard language.

thealtofmine

Hey there! Which dialect do you speak in? Super interested in Polish dialects haha

Raiste1901

Południowo-kresowy (Galicia). I speak it alongside Ukrainian. Unfortunately, it's dying out rather quickly, we learn standard Polish at school (which doesn't help to preserve it). Old people still use it daily, though, often mixing it with the local Ukrainian dialects.

P4pkin

your version is grammatically incorrect

Full_Reserve6850

How so?

succuboobies

Should be "dotykasz mojego ciasteczka" Would you say "zapomniałeś swój zeszyt" or "zapomniałeś swojego zeszytu"? Many people say the first option, but it's technically wrong.

PossibleSwordfish818

To duolinguo zgenerowal

succuboobies

Nie mówię że wersja duolingo jest zła, co prawda to "ty" nienaturalne i niepotrzebne, ale poprawne.

GaySheriff

Ok but seriously. Would you say that if, for example, you had some food and someone was touching it with unwashed hands? Would you say "dotykasz" in such a situation or would you use some other verb?

Ok_Chef_8111

I mean its allright in terms od corectness. Polish person would probably not say "ty"

papalazarou1

Is this a paid for learning program? Or free ?

Lower-Appointment-98

The sentences that can be compoosed are kinda strange :|

Typical_guy11

It should be rather Dotykasz moje ciasteczko. No need to put Ty Wrong variants are even better: Children are touching my girls Girls are touching my children Girl are touching my coo(c)kie Urban dictionary has interesting slang meaning for Cookie...

maxluision

"Ty" is added here to point out that specifically "YOU are touching my cookie, not that other person, stop denying it". Fits to the face of the bear even.

baarto

"Dotykasz moje**go** ciastecz**ka**" not "moje ciasteczko"

Operator_Hoodie

Duolingo is sort of “eh” in this one: it doesn’t sound natural saying “Ty dotykasz mojego ciasteczka”. You would rather say “Ty dotykasz moje ciasteczko”.

SlyScorpion

Came here to say the same thing. Even more natural, in my experience, would be to drop the "ty".

Operator_Hoodie

Replace it with “kurwa” maybe?

SlyScorpion

Then it would just be "Kurwa, nie dotykaj!" :P

Temporary_Hamster_26

Very useful! I have used it exactly 0 times in my life as a native speaker!

You won’t learn polish via duolingo. Can I tell you a secret? We don’t say „ty dotykasz mojego ciasteczka” if anything it would be „[ty] dotykasz moje ciasteczka” or „[ty] dotykasz moje ciasteczko” xD

Resident_Iron6701

another proof that Duolingo is useless, you will learn absolutely nothing useful day to day talk

Ysanoire

That part is correct. Ciasteczka.

masnybenn

It should've been Ty dotykasz moje ciasteczko

CodZealousideal8374

To brzmi bardzo nienaturalnie dla mnie. Dlaczego dopełniacz tu nie pasuje - dotykasz kogo/czego? Z jakiego regionu kraju jesteś? Może jakiś regionalizm 😅

Raiste1901

W dialekcie kresowym (Galicja) tylko kogo/co można dotykać, nie kogo/czego (ale "dotykać się czegoś"). Babcia moja tak mówi. Ale to nie ogólnopolski.

masnybenn

A dla mnie właśnie ta poprawna opcja brzmi bardzo dziwnie. Pochodzę z północno zachodniej Polski

Ysanoire

No, it should not. Dopełniacz is correct.

Aotto1321

I think the same

UniqueNick002

Poprawnie jest kogo, czego dotykasz --> ciasteczka. Dopełniacz. Tak jak "dotykam tej ściany", a nie "dotykam ta ściana". Dotykasz płotu, a nie płot. Chociaż widzę, że ta zaraza już się tak rozprzestrzeniła, że za jakiś czas również biernik może stać się akceptowalny w tej sytuacji.

Cultural-Ad1505

Częściej słyszę ciastko zamiast ciasteczko, które raczej głównie w internecie występuje, a gdyby było na talerzu, to chyba z centymetr średnicy by musiało mieć, by było na tyle małe, aby je tak nazywać... Zaraza się już tak rozprzestrzeniła, że ludzie mylą to/te i tę/tą. Dotykasz to ciastko? Te ciastko? Tego ciastka? Z ciasteczkiem też to działa. Dotykasz to ciasteczko.

HYDP

I think you should have changed your flare to UA native.
