I intend to get the Duel on Peridea set and the new Imperial Star Destroyer set. I want to play around with the underside of the ISD to create The Chimera from the Expanded Universe original Thrawn trilogy.
I'm really liking all the different elements of Timothy Zahns Thrawn trilogy that are quietly being seeded into the Disney Starwars TV universe.
We have the return of Grand Admiral thrawn to the galaxy 5 or 6 years after return of the Jedi, when the Empire still exists, but it's a fragmented shell of it's former self.
We have Mount Tantis and the emperors secret cloning research facility (introduced in the Bad batch)
We have the New Republic ostensibly in control of the galaxy, but stretched very thin (as seen in the Mandalorian and Tales of the empire.)
Captain Pallaeon has had a couple of appearances now.
Thrawn is in partnership, not with a cloned jedi, but with a faction of surviving nightsisters, however Moff Gideon has clearly also been doing some research in that general area as had Mount Tantis...
I don't know how far they're going to take this, but the pieces are certainly falling into place for a loose adaptation/ remake of the Zahns Thrawn books.
There have been rumors of a Filoni-directed Mandoverse film at some point which quite clearly seems like a Leia/Luke/Han-free Thrawn trilogy adaptation.
If they replace Leia, Luke, Han, Lando, droids, etc. with Ezra, Din Djarin, Grogu, Hera Syndula, Chopper, etc. then that could be very cool. Add in Rogue Squadron characters, Mara Jade, Garm Bel Iblis, Booster and Mirax Terrik, etc. and there are plenty of cool ways such a story could go.
It physically hurts me how Disney hasn't picked up the Timothy Zahn Storyline. It would have all been there but no, they decided to do stuff like "The Acolyte". :(
2 major differences are the rank insignia is finally correct, but even more than that is the use of dual molded legs where the previous Thrawn only had completely white legs.
additionally, his hair is black where the original had blue hair.

The set it comes in is pointless. It's 5 minifigs for 12 bucks each. Plus some spare parts.

I mean it's not even worth nitpicking but the only thing I could if I wanted to was he looks just plain bored, all in all love that they keep releasing sets that had old figures that were next to impossible to obtain unless you wanted to drop a small fortune

I’m thrilled that it took a while for him to release, thanks to that I was able to sell the original Thrawn for $100 around the time the show was airing!

Dual molded legs, new face print, new face and hand colour, correct rank insignia, incorrect number of code cylinders, black hair.
The face printing is very different as they are a live adaptation vs animation.
