Don’t sort solely by color.

There is actually a sub for everything, thanks!

There are many little baggies of different sizes you can get on Amazon. Thats what my wife and I use. We call them our little crack bags 🙃

Hahaha good one

Hardware stores sell storage boxes with many small pull out drawers. Also for actual sorting I built (from LEGO) a series of sifting screens with different size holes and poured my bricks through it to speed up the process.

Genius!

I did the sort of my childhood collection in stages. I started with these broad categories and broke things down further as necessary depending on how big the pile got. 1) Bricks 2) Modified bricks 3) Plates 4) Modified Plates 5) Tiles 6) Everything technic except tiles and bricks 7) Figs and accessories. 8) All 1 stud plates and tiles 9) Everything else I had enough 1x1 and 1x2 bricks that they each got their own pile. I put all the other 1 stud wide bricks in a third pile and all of the bricks 2 studs wide and wider in a fourth pile. I did basically the same thing for plates. The tiles I separated between printed and not printed. I did not separate them for size or color because I didn’t have to volume to warrant it. There are lots of ways to break down the technic. You will have to do what makes sense here. All of the figs and accessories just stayed together. The everything else pile got broken down into wheels, windshields, antenna, windows, and a few other things. The one stud plates and tiles are the only ones that I further sorted by color. Once I was done everything went into ziplock bags. It made rebuilding the rest of the sets from my childhood much much easier. Once I got the sets built I kept the pieces together in their own ziplock bags so my piles of general LEGO continued to get smaller. Hope this helps.
