Would be interesting to know if she maybe is a hybrid between macularius and fuscus (or at least had a bit of the misfortune to inherit more fuscus genes or something like this), they are too a bit different in the areas you mentioned (on top of the problems you described of course, it’s great that you care for her :) )
The Leos we keep in the west are a bit of a mix of the different subspecies, that could also be a reason for the a lot of the morphs, super rare to see an actually pure macularius (I mean, even in the wild they are suspected to have at least mixed with angramainyu in the past, I read a study that said that „pure“ macularius aren’t a thing overall 🤷🏻♂️ still an interesting topic for me :) )
I’m not 100% sure, she is from Geckoboa and was sold as a pet only gecko, so genetics aren’t disclosed, but he works with fuscus and a couple others.
I’ve always wondered if leopard geckos are exactly one species since more subspecies have become more readily available. It’d be interesting to do DNA tests on several geckos from different places!

This is Sylvie, her father was sold to the breeder I bought her from by geckoboa as well :) she is an angramainyu and longer than my forearm xD
The mixing of the subspecies can of course also cause some problems but with geckoboa I reckon it’s at least likely it didn’t happen because of any intentional mixing :)
Back in the 80s and 90s things must have been wild, just imagine seeing an angramainyu and and some other subspecies and saying „close enough“ and throwing them together 😅
Oh my goodness she’s gorgeous!! She almost has a cave gecko type of body!
I bet that’s how it was too 😂 probably with all animals haha. Thankfully over time we’ve been able to study them in the wild and learn about all the subspecies! Not many people realize there’s more than one leopard gecko! And they’re allll beautiful in my opinion. I’m partial to Hardwickii their dark colors are beautiful.
I like hardwickii as well, I also believe that the black night morph has los of genes from them, they also have that line on their back and the behavioral oddities from hardwickii can also be observed with them 😅 (their overall proportions are also closer to hardwickii compared to wild macularius)
With angramainyu I just love their gentle behavior, they are the strongest leopardgecko species by far but they are so cautious whenever you give them a wax worm, macularius are quick to chomp down on your fingers if things get hectic but they are always totally tame (and I bet it would hurt a lot if they would decide to attack xD)
They are also just so frickin huge, holding them in your hands feels like something else😅 unlike macularius giant (which are also likely to have a few additional genes of angramainyu in them) they get big without the need to fatten them up, that’s of course beneficial to their health)
they are also more vocal if they are curious or if they dislike something.
