“Myself and other people in the LGBTQ+ community” is eight words in a weekly 500 word essay I have to write for one of my classes. It’s not much but knowing I will make a connection to the alphabet mafia takes 8 words off the total
Way to fetishize what is otherwise a completely innocuous way to express one’s identity.
For whatever reason, straight people are obsessed with finding out the sexual role of LGBT people in their relationships, and this seems like just another sad example of that.
This is only tangentially related, but whenever i hear a definition of bisexual that makes it at all different from being pan, it is never from somebody who is bisexual
I always respond that I am not clear on the difference, but I don't need to be clear to respect the distinction. I have heard so many explanations from bi and pan people that I have just gotten to the point of "Not my monkeys, not my circus" and just respect people and how they choose to identify.
Understanding is nice, but not required for respect.
Well I believe you're implying that bisexual and pan are the same thing, and the only ones who disagree are outsiders, yes? So, since I'm pan, you must then count me as a bisexual. And therefore, paradoxically, qualified to offer a definition that meaningfully distinguishes the two.
Okay, so, I said every definition I heard that makes pansexuality and bisexuality different in practice, did not come from somebody who is bisexual, this statement is value neutral to what i believe bisexuality(and subsequently pansexuality) be
Well, that *is* a statement that hinges on your own definition of a bisexual person, doesn't it? How else do you know whether or not a definition came from someone who is bisexual?
To be precise about my own situation, by my own definitions, I see myself as technically bisexual but also panromantic (and I simplify that to 'pan'). By which I mean: men are hot, women are hot, enbies are hot, I like them all but in very different ways. But romantically speaking, gender is not a factor at all, it might as well not exist. This, to me, is the difference.
Now, would you say *that* definition came from someone who's bisexual?
I did not say that, all i made was a observation about my experiences, please explain to me why you are getting argumentative. This does not make sense
I don't mean to be argumentative, sorry if I came across that way. Just trying to explore this thought-provoking situation that your statement put us in. It's semantics, but semantics are interesting, philosophically.
Do you understand at all what I'm saying here? That you can't tell whether a definition of bisexuality came from a bisexual person without yourself relying on some definition of bisexuality?
Oddly enough, I do hear lesbians talk about tops and bottoms all the time. But it often feels like they actually mean 'Domme' and 'sub'
(Source: the /r/actuallesbians discord mostly)
I kinda thought that it was the opposite. There are women who like other women, and then there are Lesbians with a capital “L” saying it with their whole chest.
I say gay, because men ruined the word lesbian for me and it feels dirty to me and I want none of them to think it's 'sexy' or 'sluty'. Miss me with that bullshit
Also, my gender is not 100% girl, so I don't really feel the label myself
the source is; woman on top = man gay because submissive
it's bullshit made to excuse harassing women and putting down men at the same time by insecure men
"moids" is really, really "-cel" coded... and frankly the rest of that comment too. I wouldn't recommend it on a sub that is not advocating for queer genocide, and I wouldn't recommend going on a sub that is
Moid is male droid basically saying all men are the same, commonly used by femcels because how men treat women. Waifu is a fictional women that you have a crush on. Rofl stands for Rolling on the floor laughing. XD is like how the skull emoji is used.
I’ve literally never heard this before
the source is that they made it the fuck up
What??

Last I remember girls only call themselves "gay" because it's sometimes a mouthful to say lebiam
A mouthful of lesbian?
I imagine a lot of gay women want that quite a bit
Yes. Yes we do.
WHERE?
Hello yes I am a mouthful of lesbian
Why, hello there. Come here often?
make out already
Lebiam Lizben Less-bien Girls
Ah yes

its ok, take your time
> it's sometimes a mouthful to say lebiam "Gay" is easier to type too!
I say gay, lesbian, or homosexual. Just depends on which would have the most comedic value at the time
Exactly. “Gay” is shorter, but “lesbian” is more descriptive. If I’m feeling lazy, I’m gay. If I want to be more descriptive, I’m lesbian.
No, people just use “gay”, “queer” and “LGBT” interchangeably lol
I don't think anyone would say "I am LGBT"
“Yes, I am the WHOLE alphabet mafia”
Yes, I am the ~~W~~HOLE
Found a bottom
Granted it’s not as common, but I’ve seen it
"What is this, some sort of LGBT?"
It's because we say "I am LGBTQIA2S+" instead. Gotta use the whole acronym or it doesn't count
The + means that isn't the whole acronym.

Yeah, exactly, that's what you'd usually hear. 'Part of the community'
Who tf is saying this?
I say gay because it I like the word gay

Based on
I might offer one as a pan person, does that count?
Are you bisexual?
By your logic, I am :\^) (By my logic, almost but not quite)
What logic are you refering to
Well I believe you're implying that bisexual and pan are the same thing, and the only ones who disagree are outsiders, yes? So, since I'm pan, you must then count me as a bisexual. And therefore, paradoxically, qualified to offer a definition that meaningfully distinguishes the two.

I'm not really into the idea of straight people defining how we use our own terms.
I hate when straight people police my labels 😭 😭 just let me say I’m gay. It’s easier.
Where have you been hearing this enough to justify making a meme about it?
Why would you ask straight people to confirm this
Straight people don’t know that much about gay culture to say anything like that. They still think bottom means a woman who doesn’t do cowgirl.
"Top" vocabulary is absolutely not lesbian vocabulary, or am I missing something?
Oddly enough, I do hear lesbians talk about tops and bottoms all the time. But it often feels like they actually mean 'Domme' and 'sub' (Source: the /r/actuallesbians discord mostly)
Never heard of that ever
LGBT humor!
I say gay because it rolls off the tongue better than lesbian
I kinda thought that it was the opposite. There are women who like other women, and then there are Lesbians with a capital “L” saying it with their whole chest.
ive never heard this in my life. but i wouldn't put it past straight people to make some dumb shit up about us.
I call myself gay and I can confidently say that I am in no way a top or dominant
I have no right to comment as im aro ace but I use gay as a very general term for any same gender relationship.
I say gay, because men ruined the word lesbian for me and it feels dirty to me and I want none of them to think it's 'sexy' or 'sluty'. Miss me with that bullshit Also, my gender is not 100% girl, so I don't really feel the label myself

Why do you talk like that
Cause Im online X3

what does any of this mean

I regret asking
