You could do the Aero lower and BCM upper Reddit special.. and assemble yourself. What's your budget without accessories? Or total?

airsoftmatthias

Best bang for your buck right here.

MedCityMoto

>bang Heh

Sonofagun57

Blem PSA lower if more in line w/reddit special theme but yes BCM upper is the key ingredient. I'll raise ye a Sig Romeo 5 to enhance the spirit

d8ed

Good call on the Romeo 5! Although if you have astigmatism, like me, skip it, and go straight to a Primary Arms 1x Cyclops prism.. I did and it's been great with my 'tism and I still need to sell that Romeo 5 lol

Sonofagun57

I should've noted that as I also have an astigmatism. Mine isn't bad enough for me to feel I need something else, at least that's how it is on smaller dot settings which I prefer.

Imallowedto

I have the 18" mpr. It's been flawless. At least 1000 rounds through it so far. The Elite 452 trigger it comes with is favorably compared with geissele triggers.

thegrimelf

Same for me. I love that trigger.

ResonantBear

I've got the same rifle. Haven't shot it a ton either, but haven't run into a single problem.

kingdazy

I don't have either, but last time I looked into comparing the two, iirc the Ruger had a cold hammer forged barrel? (and that's better?)

AlexRyang

I think (maybe I am incorrect?) that both have cold forged barrels.

patriotmd

I think you're not likely to shoot enough, fast enough for that to be a deciding factor.

surethingsatan

It’s only obnoxious for anyone within ~10 feet to the left or right of you haha

thegrimelf

The muzzle brake is so loud. I once brought it to an indoor range and the people down the row wearing earmuffs were flinching every time I shot. Personally I think it sounds awesome, but don’t shoot it indoors unless you want to clear out a range.

gordolme

How about [Windham Weaponry](https://www.windhamweaponry.com/)? They're local to me.

ChineseMeatCleaver

Arent they out of business?

gordolme

Nope. New owner reopened with the same workforce as before. All existing warranties continue. I just got a Superlight model at a really good price.

DerKrieger105

Zion is a significantly better quality rifle. Rugers QC is poo. And I've seen numerous problems with their ARs. I'm an FFL and run a range. Adding an ambi safety is literally 3min of work and like maybe $10 Also realistically you're not giving them much money. IWI US is based in PA where the rifle is made. No point in buying something worse because of that.

AlexRyang

Thank you for this information, I appreciate it. I am a bit overwhelmed as there are a bunch of brands and I tried watching reviews online which were essentially useless. I know I don’t want to spend over $1,100 (edited to $1,100, not $11,000 lol) and would prefer a complete rifle. And the one LGS I went to, the person was less than helpful, and basically told me that I should just buy something and figure it out later, which I didn’t appreciate. The other, the guy seemed keen on the Springfield and couldn’t give me much info on the Ruger models other than he hadn’t seen any come back for reliability problems.

Fallline048

Honestly for around that price, without optics, Sionics would be my suggestion.

burntclp

Seconded, The Zion is a far superior rifle.

Catsnpotatoes

IWI works with the IDF on R&D according to their website

ChineseMeatCleaver

IWI is basically the IDFs #1 small arms provider lmao

[deleted]

Exactly why I carry iwi Jericho, good enough for IDF to take out terrorist it will also work to protect my family

AlexRyang

I just feel a bit skeevy buying an Israeli rifle, given their actions. Is IWI US connected to the Israeli company at all? I tried to find this and couldn’t find any clear information.

JupiterToo

Yes it is. But you do you. Just know that IWI is not state owned, it’s part of the SK Group. A privately held company. Personally I have no problem buying from them and own a number of their products. All of them have been great.

AlexRyang

Okay. From what I have read in this subreddit and the AR-15 subreddit, the Zion seems to be popular. I am just torn, because morally, I oppose Israel’s occupation of Palestine and their treatment of Palestinians, but I also know a rifle is a bunch of money and don’t want to buy something that may have reliability problems.

JupiterToo

At the end of the day you have to do what you feel is right for you. There are plenty of other brands out there that work just as well.

Individual_Ear_6648

I own one, a Zion, and like it a lot. I understand your position and you have your do what’s right for you.

MidwestBushlore

I've got a pile of IMI 'green tip' but given the present situation I'm not buying any more. Personally I won't buy from an Israeli company anymore but I can't blame you if you do, the IWI stuff is good for the money.

AlexRyang

What about the Springfield Saint Victor?

DerKrieger105

Even worse. Get the Zion if you want a complete rifle. If not get a BCM upper and slap it on an Aero lower. If that's too expensive just get an Aero Upper instead.

patriotmd

I love that like 10+ years later this is still a knee jerk reply .. and is still relevant, haha

DerKrieger105

Yup but somehow so many people on this forum still go out and buy garbage

AlexRyang

Okay, thanks. The guy at my LGS told me that he thought the Springfield was the best rifle available. I wanted to do more research and couldn’t find much to support that. It seemed like a run of the mill AR, barring it has an ambidextrous safety and magazine release.

AlexRyang

Just an antidote, I seem to be asking about worse and worse rifles, lol! 😂

nICE-KING

I’ve heard good things about the M&P sport II or whatever their AR is called. Might want to change out some furniture on it but the rifle seems solid

AlexRyang

I would prefer a mid-length gas system, I think the Sport II has a carbine length. Maybe I will look into the Sport III.

Impressive_Estate_87

Plenty of sale prices on uppers and lowers these days. I would get something like Aero, or BCM, and in the end it will be an even better firearm. Just wait until you find an excellent price, if you are not in a rush

BigJakesr

Rhe Smith & Wesson M&P sport 2 is a good rifle also as another option

Waja_Wabit

What about the PSA Sabre? From what I’ve read, it seems to be another good quality rifle around that price point? Not sure if anyone has experience with it versus the Zion or Ruger.

bush_nugget

The "Israeli" gun gives you pause, but those Americans have never used guns and violence to do anything uncivil.

AlexRyang

That’s fair.

JJase

Buying something from an Israeli company doesn't mean you're supporting the IDF.

mykehawksmall

There plenty of good rifles on the market now, I'm personally a fan of smith and wesson.

CaliforniaDoughnut

I have the 16” Ruger MPR and it’s been great. I was my first ar15 back when I was comparing the same group of guns you are. My next was an SBR PSA lower with an 12.5 aero upper. If I could do it again I would have gotten a BCM 16” upper and aero lower instead of the MPR. I’m pretty happy with the aero setup so no issues there.

hereforbutts23

I have a 16" MPR and it's great. It was my first AR. Does the job and has held up well so far

captaindoctorpurple

There are a million other models you can get that don't involve supporting genocide, and you can certainly cobble together a superior gun to the Zionism-15 for a similar price that does not assist in the occupation.

Catsnpotatoes

Very much appreciate your decision to not go with the genocide company. My first AR was a stag and it was great and should be around the same price as the other two.
