Captain-Thor

I primarily use GPU for machine learning and Nvidia is the best option for me. I have used openrc. It is not fun. Edit: my bad, opencl

redd1ch

I set up a few boxes for ML on GPUs and "AI" cards from Nvidia, with Alpine and OpenRC. No problems here. Edit: Alpine host OS, Debian with OpenRC as VM.

Excellent_Ad3307

probably meant to say opencl

SlincSilver

Yeah, when i program something using opencl i offtem get crushes for no reason, one of the main reasons why I wanna switch to nvidia to use Cuda and other nvidia specific frameworks that work like a charm

Zebra4776

Wonderfully. I really haven't had issues in several years.

FrostyDiscipline7558

Please post your NVidia driver version, kernel revision, kernel command line boot options and other related settings, we'd all love to be able to use it issue free, too.

Zebra4776

1. 550.78 on 3080ti 2. 6.8.8-gentoo-dist 3. Plasma6/Xorg My other two PCs are 1060 on openSuse TW and 4090 on kubuntu 22.04. Both are just whatever the current defaults are on an up to date system. Nothing particularly special or unique.

FrostyDiscipline7558

Ah, ok. Xorg. Yeah, my fleet of nvidia's all do well with Xorg. :) Thank you.

Zebra4776

Yeah I missed the Wayland in the OP. Wayland on my Gentoo system is largely fine with Plasma 6. Gaming isn't though which is why I stick with xorg. Browsers can be a little finicky without some startup options. I test Wayland every Plasma update though. It's been a big improvement over 5.

Sleeping-Panda-21

Have you experienced any flickering with the latest drivers? I know I had to roll back around a month or so ago because games in fullscreen would flicker in wayland.

Zebra4776

I haven't been testing at driver updates, just Plasma updates. But flickering has been a common thing on Wayland. I'll also just get black screens. Gaming is the major roadblock. I should test on driver updates to though now that you bring it up.

Sleeping-Panda-21

end of may / june i saw flickering with nvidia drivers should be fixed for the most part due to newer updates :D and them implementing explict sync 545 - 550 have really bad flickering for me. Downgraded to 535.161 and havent experienced any flickering with fullscreen in games 555 is going to be the update that includes explict sync and should make everything smoother as well as remove almost if not all glitching and black screen flickers :D (I think they were going to launch beta 555 drivers mid may but im not 100% sure on the progress of it)

FrostyDiscipline7558

Reverted to 545. 550 broke sddm and left me booting into a stuck black screen I had to ctrl-alt-fkey out of and reboot. Booted to my pre-550 snapshot and all was well again. Couldn't even get to wayland to try it on 550. :(

Perdouille

Why are you booting from a btrfs snapshot ?

Zebra4776

That's just how btrfs works. I'm booting from snapshot 1 which is the current state of the system.

Perdouille

I don't understand. on my BTRFS, / is my current state, /.snapshots/xxx/ are my snapshots. Did I misconfigure something ?

Zebra4776

I doubt you misconfigured anything. There's more than one way to do it. I really like the way my openSuse PC is configured so I sought to mimic it and used this outline: https://rootco.de/2018-01-19-opensuse-btrfs-subvolumes/

AdulterousStapler

Same, using a Zephyrus laptop with a 3060, latest Fedora. Haven't needed to think about it at all, auto updates take care of everything. HDR and Ray Tracing work perfectly in some games, and not at all in others. Only thing I couldn't get working was the dynamic resolution thing in Horizon Forbidden West, but it runs just fine without it, so didn't look too deep into it

Synthetic451

I have a 3090 but primarily stick to X11. Wayland is starting to get into a usable shape, but really all of us Nvidia users are basically waiting for the new 555 and 560 drivers due to release in the May-June timeframe that will give us explicit sync support. Explicit sync will fix all the random flickering issues that we see with certain apps and games, as well as certain vsync tearing bugs.

rikve916

I'm using a 3060 ti on fedora39. Xorg performance is perfect. Wayland, unfortunately is far from it. Lots of flickering both in the DE and In some games games. I hear it works well for others but for me it's not usable yet. There is no lag what-so-ever just lots of flickering windows.

cAtloVeR9998

The final issues that cause flickering on Nvidia/Wayland should be fully solved by Fedora 41 later this year as that’s when everybody’s explicit sync support should be upstreamed. Not clear if you installed the proprietary drivers on Fedora or not, but if you are using the free drivers they should also look forward to the enablement of NVK (brand new FOSS driver that solves a lot of the problems compared with the old one). That should be able to replace the proprietary drivers for most uses cases (outside of CUDA/DLSS/etc)

rikve916

my bad. I'm using the latest available proprietary driver from RPM-fusion. Fingers crossed that the flickering ends with next update :)

ABotelho23

Yea yea whatever. I'll believe it when I see it.

tajetaje

I mean it is actually all done right now, the code just has to all get pushed out and make it’s way into Nvidia driver version 555 (and 560 for a handful of apps) and distro packages like xwayland

ultrasquid9

I thought the fixes on Wayland's side were already in Fedora 40?

cAtloVeR9998

Explicit sync has been merged very recently with a ton of PRs for different projects. Way too close/after the merge window for Fedora 40.

dinithepinini

Interesting since mine is the opposite. Xorg does work well, but my display port has issues with nvidia-drm reporting that the display port isn’t enabled. So sleep and wake breaks it (causes the display to freeze) until I do a page flip or restart the x server. Wayland has no issues for me. I’m on gentoo though.

FelipeJz

Using Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile, when i first got my laptop in 2020 it was unusable with Linux, i tried again in 2024 and i haven't had any issue whatsoever, performance is great, no glitches, nothing, the drivers are getting better and better. I use Hyprland on Arch btw

SlincSilver

I was planning on using Hyprland on arch to, so great news.

RubyHaruko

With my 2080 and GTX1060 mobile only fine under corgi, Wayland is with gaming not usable

Demortus

I've been using a nvidia 3060 rtx for a few months now with pop os and the experience has been very positive. It works well with all games I've tested so far, and it's been able to handle llms and stable diffusion without any issues. That said, I've been using x11 exclusively, so I imagine things might be less smooth if I was using wayland instead.

hazyPixels

You might have some success using tinygrad to run stable diffusion on an AMD gpu.

Veprovina

I'm waiting for the magical explicit sync 555 driver update everyone is talking about that's supposed to fix everything, because right now the only thing that actually works is Gnome X11. In everything else I tried - Gnome Wayland, Plasma 5 X11 and Wayland, Plasma 6 X11 and Wayland, XFCE, Hyprland - there's issues, ranging from minor to unusable. The card is 1060 3Gb.

pathoang21

Using Manjaro with a 3080, xorg/X11 and it works flawlessly. Using Wayland one time about few months ago didn't give me great experience. If you are okay with Xorg, you'll do great with Nvidia. If Wayland, I would wait till it gets more polished with Nvidia.

jbstans

Had no problems on Arch or Nix

SlincSilver

Do you use wayland? I am planning to use Arch with hyprland

jbstans

I have used it and didn’t have problems with it that were nvidia specific - I had a bunch of apps that didn’t support it and that made it a pain in the arse. Actual wayland performance and that was fine.

NECooley

RTX 3080 on EndeavourOS. KDE, x11 compositor. Almost entirely used for gaming, and it works well enough I don’t really think about it ever, which I guess means it’s working well

Dist__

1030, Mint, i don't care about wayland

beef623

I've never had any major issues with nVidia, haven't tried it with Wayland though. I've had far more than my fair share of problems with AMD though, I'll never use one of their cards again.

SlincSilver

Same here, every time i wanna do something GPU related AMD doesn't have good support or any at all

Ealykos

I’ve tested recently my rtx 4060 on fedora 40 (kde). The desktop was smooth but while looking through kde widgets the de hanged and I couldn’t get it to recover so I had to reboot. Although I don’t know if that’s an nvidia related issue. But while trying some games I had some consistant vsync issues that wouldn’t go away even with gsync or vsync enabled. Also some apps ui were completely freaking out. I’ve only had this in godot and steam but it made them mostly unusable. It was like the different elements were all on the same depth making them clip through each other. That’s was my experience with it.

SlincSilver

I see, that's what i was afraid of

arrroquw

My 3090 was working perfectly on my nixos with hyprland. Now my 4080 super works great as well. The only thing I am running into is the occasional flickering of steam.

SlincSilver

That's great news ! I was planning to use Nix OS

arrroquw

I can't speak for any of the artist stuff though, mostly gaming and work (programming), haven't had any big issues that are nvidia specific though.

twistedfires

If you don't mind staying with xorg for a while, Nvidia cards should work without major issues. If Wayland is a must, then oh boy, get ready for some wild things.

At0mic182

Just out of curiosity, what wild things? I'm daily driving arch/kde/wayland and i don't see any issues really. 3 displays on 4070ti, different refresh rates. All smooth as silk. Only thing is small flicker when Dota or any other game (xwayland) loads, but it goes away quickly.

twistedfires

I haven't tested in a couple of months, but I was getting random flickering, sometimes the screen would just be green and some applications would not render or refresh.

YoriMirus

Useable but not a comfortable experience.

illathon

Good for me. Been using opensuse Tumbleweed for awhile now with Plasma 6 and Wayland and it is great. Next driver version is supposed to really improve things as well.

JustSylend

Wayland is so crazy buggy on my 3060 ti, also on tumbleweed kde

illathon

I've heard people say this, but for whatever reason it works great for me. Maybe its because my monitor is 120 hertz but I don't know. It just works with no issues gaming, watching videos or anything are great. I use Firefox every day and the only issue I have is right clicking images to save them sometimes the context menu is slightly the wrong scale. I had to change the scale of the Steam app. I also had to add a environmental variable in the Menu Editor for a few apps I use, but other then that everything is working really well.

JustSylend

I'm kind of jealous because I have a 144hz monitor and a 60hz one so Wayland would be perfect for me. However gifs get messed up, Steam Store is tweaking out and Spotify is flickering, along with other apps also either flickering or not starting up at all. I would also he able to use Waydroid if it was working but one can only hope

tajetaje

Implicit sync issues are hardware and software and thermal and power factor and time of day and phase of moon and zodiac dependent. That is to say that so many things affect whether your GPU just so happens to sync with the rest of your system that sometime it just randomly works

lazycakes360

How in the name of linus torvalds did you actually get the driver working? I tried installing both on my laptop and my desktop. Both times I tried the driver never loaded and it even cut out my audio on my desktop.

illathon

[https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA\_drivers](https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers) Just followed this. That is all I did.

lazycakes360

I also did, 5 different times, both in YAST and through the terminal. Nothing worked.

illathon

Did you install nvidia-video-G06 for your desktop? Probably want nvidia-utils-G06 as well.

lazycakes360

Yes, both were selected in YAST.

illathon

Well I don't know about yast. I just used zypper. Also when you add the repo its good to hit "a" to always accept. Not sure if it is different some how, but using the terminal is nice because you can see exactly what is going on.

lazycakes360

Which packages should I specifically install through zypper?

perkited

I installed the nVidia drivers on the command line a few years ago, and this is what zypper is reporting that I have installed today (I just grepped for "nvidia"). i | kernel-firmware-nvidia | Kernel firmware files for Nvidia Tegra and graphics drivers | package i | libnvidia-egl-wayland1 | The EGLStream-based Wayland external platform | package i+ | nvidia-compute-G06 | NVIDIA driver for computing with GPGPU | package i+ | nvidia-compute-G06-32bit | 32bit NVIDIA driver for computing with GPGPU | package i | nvidia-compute-utils-G06 | NVIDIA driver tools for computing with GPGPU | package i+ | nvidia-driver-G06-kmp-default | NVIDIA graphics driver kernel module for GeForce 700 series and newer | package i+ | nvidia-gl-G06 | NVIDIA OpenGL libraries for OpenGL acceleration | package i+ | nvidia-gl-G06-32bit | 32bit NVIDIA OpenGL libraries for OpenGL acceleration | package i | nvidia-utils-G06 | NVIDIA driver tools | package i+ | nvidia-video-G06 | NVIDIA graphics driver for GeForce 700 series and newer | package i+ | nvidia-video-G06-32bit | 32bit NVIDIA graphics driver for GeForce 700 series and newer | package user installed packages (i+) automatically installed packages (i)

lazycakes360

I wonder if the kernel firmware wasn't installed. I might do a reinstallation on my spare drive to test. It says automatically installed in that list but maybe zyp didn't pull it for me.

1smoothcriminal

I'm one of the lucky few that has seemingly never had an issue. I use arch btw

FluffyProphet

Works fine for me on Debian based distributions.

Eremitt-thats-hermit

I have no problem with X11 with NVIDIA, but I'm not touching Wayland with a 10 foot pole. It's not there yet, which is quite sad. I really enjoy Wayland on my AMD laptop. Other than that I have not foundany issues.

zun1uwu

1070 Ti on Void Linux (X11) worked perfectly for all games that I ran, but the last time I tried Wayland it wouldn't even launch.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SlincSilver

Do you have to use --lowvram flag? With my rx 580 8gb if i dont use the lowvram i can't run any model due to not enough memory.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SlincSilver

Yeah, i was aware that SD is waaaaay more optimized for nvidia in all aspects, being one of the main reason why i picked the 4060 ti 16gb. Thanks for all the info, I feel more confident now to buy it, I will take advantage of all the 16 gb vram mostly in blender and Ollama probably jaja

ImgurScaramucci

The latest nvidia drivers (550) have a bug that frequently crashes the Unity Editor when doing anything UI related (like right-clicking/opening windows/etc). So not very good. I'm using 535 for now and hopefully it will be fixed in the next version.

moonracers

Like a champ! Pop! OS with a 4090.

ChugThatEString

I have an RTX3070. Works great on Fedora 40 under X11. Wayland is still unusable, though. Riddled with bugs.

snakepit6969

I have to switch to Xorg for anything but gaming with the prevalence of Electron apps. But it’s easy to do so no big deal, just kind of annoying to have to reboot between coding and gaming mode.

proton-penguin

It works perfection, however the close source driver sucks. I can play games with the default settings. But I can't do any tweaks.

loleik

With an rtx 3070 it's been mostly fine. Over the years I've done stuff like gpu passthrough to vms with no issues caused by nvidia stuff. Even now using wayland the only issue I have is steam occasionally being seizure inducing, but I can ignore that, and I've came across one visual novel that doesn't work under wayland (that may not be nvidia though but probably is)

mrlinkwii

>how is linux on wayland working for you ?? on x11 its ok , i get the odd freeze ( i suspect due to the age of the card , k22000) but it mostly fine

BananenVlaFlip

I want to know too. Considering installing ubuntu again on my main pc for gaming, but concerned I can't play in vr with my 4090 and vive set. Unsure if I need to learn about arch linux (2nd attempt).

XZ02R

If you still have a spare 16x slot on your motherboard, you can just keep using your AMD gpu for desktop rendering and have the nvidia card in the second slot for cuda tasks.

Mediocre-Village5801

I have been using a RTX 3050. I don't use it that much for gaming but more to play with Machine Learning and LLM. Moreover I use it for the Matlab Parallel Computing Toolbox. At least in my case with Arch, I am not having many problems. Things go well most of the time using X11. Still, looking at what people say I am gradually starting to believe that I am either lucky or stupid and not exploiting the potential of my machine.

computer-machine

>How is Nvidia working for you? Quadro fx 570m, GTX 570Ti/660/770/980 had worked great for the past fourteen years, here. The 970 had a slow death, which presented issues, and using Tumbleweed was requiring reverts periodically when driver fell behind kernel, and wife's 660 didn't support newer Vulkan causing a limit to Proton, but we're on 6750XT and 6600 now, respectively, which is better. >how is linux on wayland working for you ? Last I'd used it (around November 2022) it was still pretty jank. Menu's had issues, flatpaks had issues, some windows had screwy artifacts, but I could *finally* load it, at least.

FaliedSalve

i have a System76 Oryx from a few years ago. I mention that because it came with the drivers pre-installed. In the almost 5 years I've had it, I've never had issues. My wife has a Sys76 (different model) with NVIDIA as well. She has had no issues either. But I think it depends on the specifics of the hardware and the drivers.

SlowDrippingFaucet

3070 on Wayland. Works mostly fine. As others have said, some apps flicker and act weird (mostly Electron based ones like Discord and VSCode; terminal in PyCharm also types weird). I mostly use the machine for gaming, and while Steam itself is also buggy and flickering (DONT FULLSCREEN A VIDEO), the games themselves are incredibly smooth and mostly flicker-free. People having problems in games may want to drop game graphic settings so they can run a constant FPS that matches the display refresh, and which usually fixes it. (And turn on Frame limiting or V-Sync to lock the FPS to the display output, or a multiple thereof, like 72, 90, etc.).

SlowDrippingFaucet

Something else that kills Xorg for me, besides noticeable frame output "difference" at high refresh, is mapping a mouse button to a keyboard button. The input stack can't handle two button presses at the same time from two different inputs without locking up entirely for like .75 seconds. Trying to melee in Overwatch is like a PowerPoint slideshow 😂. This all works in Wayland, which is why I'm willing to put up with the other weirdness.

SpoOokY83

Great! Since 550.67 no XID errors left, only Wayland is still bad with all the flickering. This will be solved mid of May with 555 drivers.

bunk3rk1ng

Every time I get a new GPU I try again and every time it never works right and every time I update my driver's it breaks and I have to fix it again. I've heard that it's getting better for about 18 years now. Still waiting.

i-hate-manatees

On Fedora 40 with Nouveau drivers. Everything seems to work pretty well except playing games (SuperTuxKart seems to drop frames?), but I don't play a lot of games or do machine learning or anything like that

[deleted]

SlincSilver

Yeah i know thatbthere are amd compatible gpus, but nvidia ray tracing cores are still way ahead of amd's . Moreover stable diffusion is optimize for nvidia, meaning that i will literally get 3 or 4 times de performance just for being an nvidia gpu. And finally when i try to program gpu computing in my code, my only option is opencl with amd that is very bad and unstable, while nvidia has a whole kit of developers tools to choose and are much better.

un-important-human

>How is Nvidia working for you? perfectly. 3060 arch on kde x11 Arch user btw

deulamco

As far as I know, NVIDIA working well on XOrg. Rendering Blender/OPTIX on my 4060M smoothly on a daily basis.

QuietTR55

I'm using a 4070 and a 3050, I run pop\_os on my 4070 and had 0 issues for 5 months now. on my 3050 (laptop) I run debian and that also had 0 issues after just following the wiki and downloading nvidia drivers. Jus tmake sure you don't use a Desktop Environment with Wayland. X11 works great with nvidia (on my experience at least)

stonedoubt

I have a dual 3090 machine (non-sli) for AI/ML and it works better in Linux than windows. I did try to apply a patch to the open kernel to enable p2p and it borked e’rthang. I kind of wish there was a noobie guide 😂😂😂 I made a post about it in the Nvidia and Ubuntu subreddits with a screenshot of nvtop. Ollama and LM Studio (via llama.cpp), enable p2p or at least the ability to use multiple gpus. Unfortunately, my machine borked thereafter when I added more drives because I exceeded the power provided by my 1600 watt PSU. I’m planning to move everything to a new case with 2 PSUs as a result. I haven’t had too many problems with any Nvidia cards as long as I use the proprietary driver. As others have noted, I’d steer away from Wayland for the time being. It’s still kinda buggy with Nvidia.

torsten_dev

On a laptop it's gonna be a big no for me.

Eternal-Raider

Outside of gaming Wayland works flawlessly tbh very minor graphical glitches occasionally but again super minor and not common for me. Next driver update that drops very soon later this month and plasma 6.1 if you use KDE will really bring things up for nvidia on wayland when i wanna game i switch to x11 currently

FrostyDiscipline7558

Would you be willing to post your NVidia driver and kernel versions, kernel command line boot options and other related settings with us?

R8nbowhorse

I've been using a wide range of nvidia gpus in linux vms (mostly debian) privately and at work for some time now, and have had little issues (besides the occasional game of "find the right driver"). So I'd say it's pretty solid as of now.

MokausiLietuviu

I use Linux on a dell laptop with Nvidia for work. I'm on my 4th driver reinstall in a year.

cpt-derp

Welcome to the Salty Spittoon, how tough are ya? I installed the Nvidia driver. Yeah so? ...on Gentoo with PRIME offloading. (But actually it was very surprisingly straightforward out of the box, works great)

kansetsupanikku

Why would you consider Wayland, if you use Blender and need reliability? I use 3080 with X11, before that I had 1070, also used mobile 3060 connected to my dgpu-less laptop (in that case - for CUDA only). Also various stuff on headless machines, including multiple 4090s per machine. And I have experienced nothing to complain about. With drivers from repos (be it Ubuntu, Arch or Debian) and per-project CUDA runtime setups, it simply works. Wayland is a platform-dependent set of protocols that reflects the reality of some setups, including NVIDIA unified driver, only partially. They have made a little too many designs assumptions, some of them outright suboptimal - and expect the other parties to adjust to them. There is some good will to fix it, but it will take time. Perhaps just in time for Debian 14.

kemo_2001

Got this exact model (4060 ti 16gb) to work on my friend’s computer running arch linux, pretty much any new gpu will work well. But if you somehow got issues, Manjaro has perfect out of the box Nvidia drivers

TheMusicalArtist12

1070 with Nvidia driver on arch linux works just fine for me

CthulhusSon

I've got a RTX 3060 TI & Wayland is pretty much unusable at the moment, there's a driver upgrade coming later this month that should hopefully fix that, time will tell.

Fatal_Taco

Try the 535.xx driver stream instead. It instantly fixed all my issues with Wayland on my RTX 2060

jean-pat

Desktop dell t5500+gtx960 4gb, Nvidia+cuda just work with Ubuntu from 16.04 up to 22.04

Fatal_Taco

Ryzen 5800X with RTX 2060. 550.xx stream of drivers do not work. 535.xx stream of drivers work flawlessly on KDE Plasma 6 Wayland. No issues in games or Blender. If you're coming from AMD, do note that instead of Mesa userspace drivers and Linux's own amdgpu kernelspace drivers, there's a few types of driverstack configurations for Nvidia: There's the official Nvidia-provided driverstack streams labeled 525.xx/535.xx/545.xx/550.xx: - Proprietary Nvidia userspace + Proprietary DKMS kernelspace (GTX 700 Kepler and above) - Proprietary Nvidia userspace + FOSS DKMS kernelspace (Only for GTX 1600/RTX2000 and above) And the unofficial ones: - FOSS reverse engineered Mesa userspace + FOSS reverse engineered Linux Nouveau kernelspace (all Nvidia) By default, all distros will ship with the unofficial FOSS version which is good enough for you to install the official proprietary drivers. Lets just say that performance is lacklustre in the reverse engineered version....

CGA1

Just fine, as long as I stay on X11.

At0mic182

No issues Arch/kde/wayland

Upstairs-Comb1631

I will not repeat what was said here. I have a 1060 and 1050 Ti (ie without GSP). I can't speak for 3D games, Blender and others, as I don't use them. KDE5/6 got a lot faster with the new Nvidia drivers(545+). Applies to both X11 and Wayland. And the current patches and development of Wayland, KDE, GNOME, etc. have already reached the distributions, so the CPU consumption when playing videos on YT on Wayland has decreased. It was running fine on the X11 before. It got fixed on Wayland. I'm satisfied. The icing on the cake will be the explicit sync that some people need.

Alexis-Tse13

Once you set it up it should be OK. Using mine on Xorg, which was a pain to set up ( very old, had to double check which drivers to install) , but otherwise pretty good.

natermer

I have AMD CPU and GPU and it works fine with stable diffusion. I have used it with blender, but not blender integrated with stable diffusion. So I don't know about that stuff. I am not a heavy blender user. Probably should ask on a blender-specific forum. Mostly I use it with gaming and it works fine. Steamdeck uses AMD GPU and CPU. So it is kinda the standard platform nowadays, if there is any such thing. With Wayland it works great and has been working great for a few years now. Going with Nvidia on modern Linux is a really bad idea unless you have some very specific need for it.

MixtureOfAmateurs

Bro I fucked up the ubuntu driver install for a 3060. It's fine now but it would be nice if I didn't have to scour all edges of the internet for up to date info on a simple install. Btw 3090 is much better value for AI, and in general. More compute, WAYYY higher memory bandwidth, it's just the way to go.

iluvatar

Nvidia was working so badly that I swapped out for an AMD card. Life has been much better since then. No more random lockups.

john-jack-quotes-bot

My 1650 works fine for gaming on wayland (I use my laptop's IGPU for everything else so can't comment on that), I think any card older than that has problems with drivers

LocRotSca

Great. After a few issues when first switching it's pretty much been smooth sailing ever since.

HlCKELPICKLE

On pop_os and have never had an issue with any AI work or stable diffusion, gaming is fine as well. But when I tried fedora with wayland at the end of 2022 it was a no go, not sure how much things have improved since.

VayuAir

I have never used nVidia so I have no idea how jt works under Linux

Straight-Ad-8266

Its been a while since I’ve used an NVIDIA gpu, but as I remember it was horrible. My setup was Fedora 38, the blob nvidia driver, Wayland KDE, and an Rtx 2080ti. The experience was so bad I was willing to go without my PC until i got a 6950XT. Of course things could have changed in the last year or two, but I’m doubtful seeing how slow the progress with nvidia+open source generally is. If it were me I’d avoid nvidia cards like the plague if you run Linux. Hoping this changes soon with Intel’s Arc Battlemage, and or Nvidia’s recent hiring of a nouveau lead maintainer. Speaking specifically on Wayland+AMD - I’ve had zero issues with it except for screen sharing on Electron based apps. All the other apps are perfectly fine. Nvidia+Wayland was a nightmare when I had my Nvidia setup. One of the main reasons I got rid of it.

Fine-Run992

Laptop 4060 with proprietary driver is unusable: x11 with Plasma 6 heavy stuttering, Wayland with Plasma 6 a lot of flickering .

creamcolouredDog

It's hell having to stick with X11 with dual monitors, I wish the explicit sync thing would come sooner.

BranchLatter4294

For me, on Ubuntu (22.04) Wayland is very responsive on Nvidia. It feels much faster than using Xorg.

Dull_Cucumber_3908

It's working fine. zero issues.

I'm a long time nvidia user and after fully swapping to linux late 2023 I'm seriously considering swapping my faithful 1070ti into an amd card. It's just too many headaches when it comes to making stuff work properly on LInux with an nvidia card.
