**Tech-support requests should be useful to others:** those who might run into the same problem as well as those who might be able to help. Include details like logs, terminal output, system information. What did you do, and how, and with what version of what? How have you tried to troubleshoot the problem? **Vague, low-effort tech-support requests may get removed.** See this [guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/16d7gj7/need_help_heres_how_to_get_it/) for help with posting useful tech-support requests and the [FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/16xx5yv/faqs/) for answers to common questions. To find out whether specific Windows games will run through Proton, [protondb](https://www.protondb.com) is a useful resource (although you’ll find that the answer can depend on how willing you are to tinker). You are welcome to repost your question with more details provided!

way22

You need to actually activate it in the settings. It's not turned on by default. Look for "compatibility".

Reonu_

If anything, it's the other way around

89% of the top 1000 games work on Linux just fine. Don't know where these delusional number are taken from. [https://www.protondb.com/](https://www.protondb.com/)

[deleted]

Probably if you don't enable steam play for all titles it'll be like 95% that don't work.

[deleted]

They do?

IceBreak23

what do you mean? 95% of the games DO work on Proton and GE-Proton, you are doing something wrong if that's the case.

creamcolouredDog

The majority of games in the catalog are rated platinum and gold on ProtonDB, I'd say that's pretty good

thieh

What is your spec and the games you were trying? Details would help.

TheMartonfi1228

I have yet to run into game I want to play on steam that hasn't worked for me on linux. This is 100% user error on your part, you can always reference [prontondb](https://www.protondb.com/) for game compatibility on linux.

NolanSyKinsley

I have a catalog of 426 games and I would be hard pressed to find one that doesn't work on linux. Something is wrong with your configuration, you may need to enable steam play for supported titles and enable steam play for all other titles under the comparability tab in settings. If you are playing games with EAC anticheat or battle eye anti cheat you need to download the EAC/Battle eye proton compatibility layers under the tools section of your steam library.

Mrbubbles96

It's the other way around. Did you turn on Proton in settings ---> compatability?

AhiruSaikou

What are you talking about. Of my 300 game library only 3 don't work.

nicknamedtrouble

Sounds like a personal problem

hairymoot

All my games work. I am thinking you didn't turn on the use proton for all games in the compatibility settings.

DividedContinuity

It's because you're doing something wrong.

Affenzoo

What do you mean...95% of the games work in Proton, without any problems. Just activate Proton Experimental, that's all.

Dull_Cucumber_3908

Can you mention some examples?

zap117

How slow is your internet connection ? This might have been true 10 years ago

MRRichAllen1976

For clarification, I use Ubuntu 22.04 at my Parents, and Linux Debian at the Flat, running on a Chrome OS Desktop. I do have a few Steam games that work, such as Cassette Beasts, TemTem, Two Point Hospital and Under a Killing Moon, but everything else I've tried ain't worked, and there's only so many times I can buy something, it doesn't work so I request a full refund before it gets annoying and/or they eventually refuse the refunds.

AhiruSaikou

You have to enable proton in your steam settings

MrHoboSquadron

If they've got Temtem running, they have. It's windows only.
